is "Missing" a religious song? i know Evanescence clearly stated in the past couple of years that their music is not at all Christian rock, but this song was written before then, and the song does seem like it could have religious significance...

Evanescence said a lot of times that their music is simply about life expirience. But they also said that you can interpret their songs the way you like it. The way YOU feel it. If you think that "Missing" is a religious song, why not?

Wow, now that I look back on the lyrics it does look very relegious, as if the narrator is Jesus (hope I can say such a thing).

I originally thought it was just about a one-way relationship - one person loved but the other couldn't love back - but now I think my interpretation of the song has changed. Well done for spotting that.

If I'm not mistaken, Amy has said that when her family was moving around a lot, she was on her own a lot. Not only that but everyone has a point in their life where they feel like no one loves them. So I was wondering if maybe they were feeling like this and wrote that song. It's just how I took the song when I first heard this song.

Missing is probably my favorite Evanescence song and I've made a ton of memories through this song and a few others, but I was wondering where the inspiration for the song came from? Thanks! -Amy F.

I'm afraid I don't know - so sorry if I got your hopes up! - I would like to know the story behind this song too. Though not my favourite Ev song, I think it is quite possibly the saddest song ever. In a good way! I have a lot of memories attached to it, too...in particular, one really shitty day, during music class, I locked myself away in a practice room and played the song over and over again, until I started crying. Which didn't take very long because, like I said, it's the saddest song ever!

I think it might be an expression of the lonliness Amy described as a child, when her family was moving around a lot.

I'm pretty sure 'missing' was released as a single in some countries to promote ABH.

i believe it was only released in europe. i remember watching a video clip of trl italy i think it was, and amy and the host were talking about the song and such. iono i maybe wrong.

I think they played it here in So Cal too. Back when ABH was released My Mom said she heard some slow Evanescence song that wasnt My Immortal.

The Official single only happened in Europe.

But unofficial singles happened all over.

To answer your question...I'm not exactly sure what the strategy is...but perhaps it's a particular sound works better on one side of the pond or the other. Kind of like how artists are more popular here than overseas or vice versa.

It's very weird to put into words, but I think you kind of get it...

Overseas single releases that are different from domestic ones are not all that uncommon...especially for those artists that are from outside of this continent.

Aside from that...perhaps it's that they felt it necessary to promote more overseas because they didn't feel that putting out ABH would have been as successful overseas as it was here.

This song fits great at the end of Anywhere But Home. With the thorns in the background and the credits rolling up. It just gives that sense if "I'm through with this" or "We're done. It's over" kind of feeling. Doesn't necessarily have to mean it's about a relationship or anything so...

has kinda become my way of living, it began when I had a stressful oral presentation in english (wich is my second language)... I was singing this song in my head before my turn and I realized at this part something... If I completely screw my oral... I'll screw it... nobody cares... and if the only thing I do is thinking about it and about how it could go wrong...it'll go wrong... so it helped me deal with stressful situations... Then, after the oral presentation, I realized that it could apply to everything, and it became my guide line (even though it wasn't written with this idea, it turn out meaning a lot of things to me...)

I really don't know how this song missed the cut on Fallen. I have a feeling it was the label. I feel bad for Amy and the guy's that they signed with Wind Up.

In my opinion i think it is a relationship typ song a lost will forgoton in a dream orsomthn you know. it would make good video. like with a literla sense with amy waking up from a slepp with some guy and leaving a note then running away into the night with everything else you know *dreams so much * lol:mrgreen:

This is a great song, and it is a shame it didn't make its way to 'Fallen'.

When I first listened to the song, I took it as a very religious one.

But, I definitely see the whole being on your own and feeling like no one loves you, type of thing.

I can kinda understand whiy it wasn't put on Fallen - it is a completely different style of song than the rest of the album, and one thing that's obvious from Fallen is there's a definite style/theme that runs through the entire album. Same thing with Farther Away, I guess...

Plus, the record company'll have known B-sides will be needed throughout the promotion of the album for singles, special editions, etc. So they'll have kept them to one side. To tease us with. The sadistic bastards.

That's a really awesome interpretation! It's kind of a positive message.
Sometimes people obsess about things in their minds, or obsess about how other people perceive the things they do, but in the end no one really cares if you do something "wrong". I think it's cool that you've drawn such a positive message out of this song: to not care what people think, because in the end they don't really care anyway.

like anyone, to me this song is a silent cry for myself.
alot of people in my life right now I could apply those lyrics to.
this song makes me think about the quote "you don't no the meaning of something till it's gone". obviously, we know people to mourn over someone, but with a song like this it really makes you think that some people aern't as sympathetic, and you never trully no who cares about you.
I guess it makes me think about how many people end thier lives because they feel they don't have a purpose, and they don't feel any gratitude towards themselves or from anyone. It's a harsh reality.

I'm so in love with this song. It's so melodious and it's My Immortal-like with a bit of dark, melancholy and "missing" mood. I like the part " And if I bleed, I'll bleed .. ". It's pretty cool that they renewed the song and made it on radio.

This song reminds me of my ex-best friend.:( I listen to it and remember all of the good times. If sh could just hear this song, I'm sure she'd remember.
The mood set by the demo is much more effective, though, IMO.

Haha. I do now, but when I first got ABH I listened to the CD in bed and was all "Ohh okay, concert's over, time to go to sleep...HOLY SHIT." Just the feel of the song, especially the backin vocals, creeped me out for a long time.

A friend told me he had heard a new Evanescence song on the radio a few days ago that wasn't on 'Fallen' or 'The Open Door' so I was curious as to what it was. After having him record it, I quickly realized that it 'Missing' but something was weird about it and then i realized that THE SECOND VERSE HAD BEEN CUT COMPLETELY OUT! I'm sorry about it being in mono because he made the mistake in audacity only recording in mono when he was recording from the radio. I hope you guys enjoy!

well first of all i ould like to to thank amy for this song cuz me and one of my best guy friends had a fight a very big one cuz my parrents wont let me talk to my 2 best guy friends me and one of them got into a fight so big we said to each other that we would pretend we didnt know each other then i gave him the url to the song missing and bring me to life i told him
"please u probaly wont forget my abscence " and i told him bring me to life was dedicated to him in a sibling way and we both started to cry and thnx to tht song we made up and were still like bro and sis so all thnx to this song.

I really don't listen to Ev anymore. "Missing" showed up randomly on my Zune tonight and I remembered why I fell in love with them in the first place. It was like a breath of fresh air.

I hadn't heard missing until abh was well over a year old. It took a while for ev to grow on me. but this is one of their most haunting songs imho.

I'm just like Mel, I don't really listen to Ev as much as I did before,
to when their album first came out.
Whenever I hear them, it always brings this joy to my heart, a kind
of joy I can't really explain.
I love their lyrics, and each song, when I hear it, tells its very
own story, witch makes it even that more special to me!
Ev will always remain that deep in my heart, for such very special

This is definitely the saddest song I've ever heard from Evanescence, and possibly the saddest song I've heard from any singer/band. I love it, though, because Amy sings it beautifully, and it's just a beautiful song in general. I really wish I could've seen them perform it live, along with Understanding.

my interpertation of the song is about a relationship that amy was in and that the guy broke up with her and she missed him and wondered if he was missing her or another one is about a music relationship that she sacrificed a record deal and wondered if they missed her

I love this song so much and yeah it's realy sad and it's so beautiful, it makes me think that there realy are people like this.... love it <3
