After having an extremely long conversation about this at work, I was wondering if anyone here thinks that the moon landing never happened.
I have no doubt in my mind that it did, but I've met quite a few people that think it's a total load of crap; what do you guys think?

My Great Uncle designed the Command Module primary flight computer, which has no bearing on this debate whatsoever, but it was cool for me to know I had some old school computer nerds in the family

There was a web site I came across one day that had all these theories and "evidence" that it didn't happen. Personally, I thought it was a load of crap, but if you'd like to read it I could try and hunt it down for you.

Please do, if you have the time. I know my parents (who believe it to be a hoax) were talking about something to do with the lack of shadows or something... and also asking why they haven't been there recently and all. I'm not reallly sure what to think, nor am I trying to spark any debate... but I find it all fascinating.

think about it. Why would they do it as a hoax? Back in the day I can see them doing it so they could beat the Russians to be the first on the moon. They were after all losing to be the first man in orbit and whatnot. However, they now have the technology that even if it was a hoax back then they could still go today. So why would they not go today when they could? Cause they have already been and they don't feel there is anything else on the moon to use for learning.
Sides, to explain the shadows you have to know the exact part of the moon they landed on and wheather or not the earth was partially between the sun and moon or whatever. Not all of the moon sees the sun at the same time. That is where you get a new moon from, not to mention that is how all the stages of the moon cycle are affected.

Hey, here ya go. Amazingly it was the first site that popped up on Google, so I didn't spend much time searching at all ;)

Edit: BTW, that site actually attempts to disprove the hoax theory. It's been nearly a year since I visited it. Coulda swore it was the other way around. Either way, I still think the idea that it was a hoax is a load of crap.

Up until just recently I've had no reason to doubt that we've been offworld at all.
However, we had a program (US made I think) shown here about a year ago where they showed item after item that just didn't add up. Like the fact that there is so much radiation in the Van Allen belt and all the astronauts had to protect themselves from it was a few millimetres of tin foil. Or the fact that there were shadows in exactly the same place on different days at different times. Or the photographs which have crosses on them (for reasons I've never been able to fully get to grips with) which seemed doctored because in 90% of them the crosses were on "top" as they should have been but some had objects covering them up. Or countless other things that I can't even remember now.
Point is, although I still think that on balance we probably did get out into space, the program I saw put enough doubt in my mind to make me consider the possibility it was indeed a hoax.
IF it was a hoax, one possible why was because they were behind schedule and as it was a race, and wanted funding to continue, they staged the whole thing so that they could keep working until the venture was possible. Certainly this seems to be the most popular belief amongst the nay-sayers.

thing is is that it doesn't really matter. Even if the first moon landing was a hoax they have been there by now. The technology is there so they would have gone by now if they hadn't the first time.
Although, if it was such a hoax why is it that you only see skeptical Americans yelling that about? You would think the former soviets would have been doing that, since it was them we were in a race with. I mean, if they can accept it, why can't everyone else?

If the hoax theory is correct... they were clearly in on it. A trade concession here, an imbargo lifted there... ;)

Late one night he was caught in a little boys room and he had to slip out unnoticed. He slide backwards so to not make a sound and vanished into the dark. He could still be seen becasue he had just had a skin treatment and he was whiter than normal. He lurked in the shadows waiting for the the parents to leave. Before they left, he was attacked by a girl wearing a pink hoop skirt. No it wasn't Amy. It was that girl in the Thriller video. She proceeded to beat the shit out of him becasue she thought that he was waiting for her to undress so he could spy on her. Needless to say, she learned that to all be false because the world learned of Michael's obessiosn with little boys.

Now, to the reason I came here in the first place.
Having always thought that we did land on the moon, I have never questioned it much until I saw a video of the landing and there was no dust being blown around. In zero gravity there should have been a lingering dust plume. There was no plume at all. Also, there were pictures of the moon that had subjects that went in and out of the grid on the lens of the camera. All subjects should have been behind the grid. Some were in the foreground.
In saying that and seeing the information I still want to believe that we did go to the moon. I can see why we haven't been back. It wasn't made of cheese.

Hey Mark:
1) The moon has approximately 1/6th the gravity of earth. Therefore, no lingering dust ploom...
2) According to this site, from NASA: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/moonfact.html, it was difficult fo the Apollo crew to get an accurate reading of the atmosphere on the moon due to heating, etc. That supports the moon having human visitors from earth to conduct such specific measurements.
3) Picture files of astronauts on the moon.
4) The moon rock on display at the Smithsonian Museum.
That's my first crack as to why I believe there humans visited the moon.

There were 17 Apollo missions - six of them landed on the moon in which 12 men walked on the moon. Now there are hundreds of people (maybe thousands) that support each mission so a hoax would require collusion and secrecy from all of those people including the 12 that walked on the moon - on at least 6 different occasions. From government agency? Yeah right! On the face of it, it's just ludicrous.
Anyone remember a movie called Capricorn One? In which they fake a trip to the moon (or was it Mars?). Of course it was necessary to kill all the astronauts to pull it off. (Not necessarily a spoiler).

True that. It's waaaaaay too much trouble for something in which you really have nothing to gain. I mean, does the government really gains anything from lying to us that humans have been on the moon? And, I doubt something this big can be lied about.

i remember a while ago FOX made a big deal over some special they were having refuting the moon landing. my friend watched it and was talking the next day all pissed off about feeling "so disillusioned" the it never happened.
now im not the kind of person to go around randomly hitting people, i had no choice. i had to slap him upside the head and remind him that a FOX special is no more credable in the science department than a supermarket tabloid is in journalism.
"but the flag was waving in hte breeze when the put it in. its right there on the video. where's the wind commingfrom if theyre on the moon?"
this was the best example he was able to site for me.
ok, A) theres no wind in a sound stage either
B) it wasnt flapping in the breeze, it was waving becase th guy twisted the pole back and forth to get it in, and being on the moon in all, there wasnt much gravity or air resistance to stop the ripple affect.
there were a couple other things he sited that were just as easy to shoot down. something to do with the crosshairs on the camera being covered up by the image, implying some of the scenery was added after the fact.
k, do you have any idea how easy it is to accidently distort a piece of film in subtle ways like that? espicialy considering everything that old equipment had to endure.
besides, if it were fake, a secret that big wouldnt stay hidden so long after the fact. the theory was it was staged to scare the soviets into thinking we had won the space race. well, if that were true, its served its purpose. more recent top secret military info has been declasified, so why hold out on this? at the very least, inconsistencies in the multitude of "false" details given about those missions wouldve raise some questions... by people other than FOX.

the plume idea not with standing, why were the landers not sitting in craters blasted out by their retro-rockets?

Of course it happened. I can't fake anything like that, especially in that day. Now, today you could, but I don't think NASA would be too thrilled about a fake landing. My Uncle's cousin is astronaut Charles Duke, and he was on Apollo 16, and he walked the moon, now I know he's not lying.

i remember that fox special and i went to a buncha websites either sayin it's a hoax or tryna disprove it. honestly, ionno whether or not it was a hoax but they did say in the special that an un-manned spaceship that japan will be launching is gon take pictures of the moon's surface. now if we still see our flag and all the other crap we left on there, then we have our answer. but until then, i don't really know what to believe.
