Hahaha, Baz Luhrmann directed all these films, and I love these movies. I know alot of people have complete hate for these movies, but I admit, I'm a freakin fan! Yea, I think Baz is a genius, and I love his creativness, and his ability to keep you awake during a movie.
I love the Whisper version that has the O Verona (from Romeo+Juliet) for the introduction. It roXors.
What's your favorite? Or do you hate them all (bastard...hehehe)
I'm voting for SB, just because probably not alot of people have seen it (I think...). But the dancing/singing/music rocks in all of Baz's movies. But MR and SB are ties for me, I hate Leonardo DiCaprio so Romeo+Juliet is 3rd favorite. Yea... John and Fran hehehe...

While I tend to detest Leonardo DiCraprio, I do really like Romeo+Juliet. Maybe because its the only good version of Romeo and Juliet around nowadays...

I hate them!!! All of them!!! Romeo and Julirt has an ok story but the film was absolute crap (sorry to those of you who think Leo's nice... but, he's not!). And Moulin Rouge just scared me... its was weird...

I voted for Romeo + Juliet, cos I was obsessed with that film. I saw Moulin Rouge a little while ago and I thought it was disappointing.

Romeo & Julliet is the best out of a bad bunch in my opinion. It deserved my vote over the I hate them all option.

Wow. I had just started opening the Red Curtain Trilogy when I saw this thread. :D Crazy.
I still haven't seen Strictly Ballroom, but out of the other two I like Moulin Rouge. Romeo and Juliet was cool, 'specially because Claire Danes is hot, but a lot of the soundtrack annoyed me, O Verona not included in this. I like the music in Moulin Rouge (leave me alone), and I liked how creative it was visually. o_o

Go Baz you little Aussie battler you!!!
I quite like SB. I saw it when i was about 13 and ended up with the hugest crush on the main actress whose name i can't even remember now adays. And i will never forget the final dance scence of that film and the way the music builds up in it. Simply stunning.
As for the other 2, i tolerate R&J because its shakespeare and any way you can get people interested in shakespeare is ok in my books. Plus claire danes is a hunny.
MR - I wont even bother wasting my time with it. Ive seen the trailers and they are enough to turn me off it. mainly its the music in it that turns me off it so quickly.

I haven't seen Strictly Ballroom, but I'm gonna have to check it out now! I absolutely love Moulin Rouge, though. The first time I saw it, I was a little weirded out in the very beginning, but by the end, I was loving how it was done.

I voted for Strictly Ballroom because Fran is really cool. Hehehehhe!!! :D
P.S.- This is what part of the alphabet would look like if you eliminated the letters Q and R. Hahahaha!
P.S.S.- Scott from SB sooo does look like Mr.Dunlop, Squirrel Woman! Doesn't he just a little? Hahaha!

No he doesn't you bastard...
And for the one who said they liked the music in MR, so do I! And so do my friends.
I suggest everyone check out SB. It was what Baz got famous for. It's not as "weird" and eccentric as MR and R+J were. But I loved the music, and the dancing was awesome. FRAN! hehee... Just Fran.
And I really love them all. SB - told through dance. R+J - told through words. MR - told through song. I love these films!! AH!!!!
And I love the liveliness(sp?) of these movies. Keeps you on your feet. All three movies are just giving you this whole world of color and music.
Claire Dane rocks! I think it's funny when she cries...hehehe...

That's not the actual name of the song is it? It's just that's my fave version of Whisper and I've really tliked that orignal peice of music but just can't remember the name!
And I love Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet. R+J got me into Shakespere after school making it dull! lol Both beautiful. Just amazing. He's a fave director beside Peter Jackson.

I absolutely LOVED Moulin Rouge. I can't even explain how intensely I love this movie. I, like some of u, wasn't sure how I felt about it when I left the theather after seeing it the first time. I thought about it more and more and just realized what a masterpiece I had just seen. Baz is the shit. Romeo and Juliet was amazing, great adaptation. It amazes me that he took something that was written so long ago, and just make it work in such a way that is totally unbelieveable. I haven't seen Strickly Ballroom, but I am sure I will like that one as well.
I loved Moulin Rouge for so many reasons, but the one that stands out is that it gives you such a refreshing feeling about falling in love, finding that right person, and living in the moment because you never know what's gonna happen. The realism of this movie was so intense. It doesn't have a happy ending, and that's how life is. Not everyone gets a true love and house of there dreams.
I could go on for hours talking about this movie, but I will spare you guys. LOL GREAT THREAD by the way!!! :D

baz luhrmann is an amazing director, absolutely no doubt to that. but yes, i did vote for romeo+juliet because i have been in love with that movie since it came out. i was always a huge shakespeare fan and claire danes is also a favourite of mine. i have an enormous framed poster of them when they get married hanging in my room as well.... with the words 'the greatest love story the world has ever known'. sigh..
both soundtracks are amazing as well. the second version even has my favourite verse.

I love the man who dances and the man that sings *falls again*

Dude... I totally loved Romeo and Juliet... lotsa people I talked to were all like "they shouldn't have done a modern setting with oldschool script" and I was all like "shut teh hell up bizzatch, I'm totally gonna pwnz0r j00 if j00 say that again... that movie r0x0red mah b0wling s0x0rs"
It was great... I totally loved the guns named after swords... and Mercutio's was sweet, with the see-thru handle and clip... awesome.

MOULIN ROUGE! ALL THE WAY!!!! WOOHOO!!!
Oh my God! I can't believe all the fans have come here! This rocks! Baz is the best damn director out there. He's better than that overrated piece of sh|t Spielberg and better than everybody else! Other good underrated directors are: Sam Mendes, Pete Jackson (though now he's king of the world - WOOHOO!!), Darren Aronofsky, etc etc
Romeo + Juliet is one of the most incredible movies I've ever seen! I studied the play and the way Baz turned the whole premise around is extraordinary!
Strictly Ballroom, I watched after watching the other two, so naturally, I enjoyed the other two more. But Strictly Ballroom is amazing! I mean, the music and the story -- it's soo... ORIGINAL! And Baz's style beginning to form during the start of the film (sigh).. I'm in love with that director..
READER:
No! Hehe.. (nervous).. I mean, the guy has talent!!! You think funny.. I just like talent!
Anyway, Moulin Rouge! rocks my world. It sets new standards for musicals and no musical will EVER become as good as MR!. I mean, it's the best musical of all time! The second best is Nightmare Before Christmas!
I love Moulin Rouge! the best! All of you who don't like Baz's movies or hate one of them because you just don't 'get' it, should all rot in hell!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!! ... no offence...

I looooooooove Moulin Rouge! Actually the first time I saw it I didn't like it, but I'd been told to watch it twice because the first time you see it, apparently it seems weird. So I gave it its second chance and loved it :) and who doesn't love the Elephant Love Medley, come on!! :D
I don't like Romeo & Juliet because of the language. If you're gonna update it to the modern day, update the language too, otherwise it's a bit pretentious imo. But apart from that it was ok :p
And, haven't seen Strictly Ballroom :p

i'm going with Romeo and Juliet. while i strongly dislike both Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, they are two very talented actors and it wasn't a bad film. it couldn't been much better made, but it still wasn't the worst i've ever seen.
i've heard Strictly Ballroom is shit, so i haven't bothered with it. as for Moulin Rouge, i personally didn't think much of it. again, not bad...it just wasn't my thing. but i suppose i'm slightly biased, being that i think Romeo and Juliet in general is absolutely amazing. i'd just rather read instead of watch it.
