So what would you say your favorite music genre is? Any bands, groups, or individuals associated with that genre that you particularly like?

Mainly just rock.. hardISH, but not really hard :? .. ehh IDK lol, here are some of my fav bands..
Also, I like classical- piano sonata's and whatnot (preferably when I play them.. you get into them more)
I'm really picky when it comes to music .. I'm definitely not one of those "I can listen to everything.." people

I think Evanescence is kind of a give in here considering that we're posting at an Evanescence related board. :D

I tend to be really picky with music as well. I mainly listen to 70's and 80's rock most of time. Not to mention a few great bands from our last musical golden age in the mid 90's.
My very most favorite bands other than Evanescence have always been The Cure, Def Leppard, Scorpions, The Shroud, Depeche Mode, etc. That should give you a pretty clear picture of my taste in music. :p

I'd have to say rap.
Lately, it's been a lot of R&B tho. For some reason, well...I tried listening to rock stations but don't like the music. I guess I just like certain rock music or somethin. Like certain bands. Dave Matthews Band (not exactly rock...), Linkin Park, Evanescence, some of AC/DC, that one Nirvana song (Smells Like Teen Spirit), a few others. I used to listen to reggae a lot too.
What sucks about listening to music on a college station, such as underground rap and reggae - the DJ, after an hour or so, will say..."Okay, in the past hour you've heard...blahblah" and then you're like...wait that song I liked...was it #2?? 3?? Then again, college radio stations are meant to be like that, not like mainstream with all the interruptions and stuff. So I don't know a lot of reggae artists as I do rap.
I guess right now...for rap...Pete Rock (and songs with him), Little Brother, Roscoe (SMOOTH SAILIN!!), Black Star, Jedi Mind Tricks ("from NY to Philly nigga"), Bone Thugs n Harmony (ALWAYS), I guess that's mostly it. I've been listenin to James Brown, Luther Vandross, Marques Houston, Alice Deejay, a lot of that stuff lately. I haven't listened to underground rap shows in SO long...I used to listen to the shows nightly but I never do anymore. I need to start again.
I guess techno is second after rap for me...I been listening to Zero, 4 Strings, Paul Van Dyke, Paul Oakenfield, Alice Deejay, and a lot others...I LOVE trance. It's the best techno.
So yeah..

I'll listen to anything pretty melodic. I guess that's sort of vague, but it's the only word I can really think of to describe it. A majority of my CDs are video game and film soundtracks, so it's safe to say I'm pretty big on instrumentals. When it comes to mainstream music, I'll probably like the song as long as the vocalist doesn't sound like they're just talking or screaming. I have to be able to hum it!
Current favorite artists (aside from Ev): Yoko Kanno, Akira Yamaoka, Yasunori Mitsuda, more recognizable artists being Coldplay, Enya, Tori Amos, A Perfect Circle... yeah that's enough.

"post-industrial"
nin, evanescence, vast, etc.
"art-rock" is a second (ie: tool, mudvaye, etc)
and i think i'm getting into trip-hop.

I like progressive rock and metal, instrumental guitar oriented albums and some fusion. That's pretty much the ingredients for my own music too.
I'm still a sucker for a good pop song though and enjoyed seeing Michelle Branch play live a few weeks ago.

I was once a i can listen to everything person - now I run out of classrooms screaming when people put on urban music or pop music
(you know things like the cheeky girls, fast food rockers  :bad-words: - I duno what you have around the rest of the world)
Yes it really happened at our end of year party last year - i ran and i screamed and was dragged back in - screaming.
I HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT
now rock - I LUV IT LUV IT LUV IT!
I also kinda like some classical stuff, theres was a time where that was all i listened to, cos i hated every other style - with the exception of rock which during this time was very difficlut to find

I'd have to say that really just like anything that has a good sound and the lyrics have meaning. I'm not into listening to people describe their cars, women or sexual positions in their music. I tend to listen to Rock / Alternative. CD's that stay in my visor are Evanescence (of course), Seven Mary Three, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Candlebox.

I listen to everything, like a great deal of people here. But if pressed to choose:
I've never been able to get into Country for some reason. It just leaves me cold.
Most rap sounds to me like it truly should be spelled with a silent capital C.
Techno is like a bad "trip" - gets my head buzzing and I just feel like I wanna kill something
But otherwise I like/love anything from classical (though for some reason very few operas), jazz, folk, pop, punk, funk, reggae, soul, ballads, musicals, Eurovision (it IS a genre, isn't it??), grunge, electronic.... basically anything that sounds good! (unfortunately that means about 30-40% of all chart stuff fails the test ;))
Of course my main love is, and always will be rock and metal

Melodic and Gothic Metal. It´s kind of a fan genre, there´s no technical music genre called melodic and don´t think there´s gothic metal also
Bands: Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Angra, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Tristania and obivously Evanescence (from those, the one I think it´s less likely to be metal but I think it´s metal. anyway, if not a metal band, the best normal rock band ever)

I love a lot of different types of music. R&B, Rap/Hip Hop, Country, Rock, Metal and Hardcore, and some Classical. I would say I pay more attention to just songs instead of artists. My favorites though as far as artists go are:
R & B-Jill Scott, Lauren Hill, Boyz II Men (their album in 2000 was probably the most underrated album I have heard)
Rap/Hip Hop-Nas (God's Son is a great album, but a lot of his other stuff is great too), Talib Kweli listen to "Get By" (Reflection Eternal is really good too with Hi-Tek) and mostly old school with Sugar Hill Gang and Run-DMC
Country-Garth Brooks AND Chris Gaines (I liked Garth's made up character), Dixie Chicks, and Nickel Creek. I need to listen to a little more old stuff though.
Rock-Too much to mention here, but if there's one that needs to be it's *drumroll please*...EVANESCENCE!!
Metal and Hardcore-I would say I'm more into hardcore like Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage. I like Lacuna Coil and I'm sampling a little Lamb of God.
Classical-My favorite classical piece is Rite of Spring. Nice horrific piece.
