View Full Version : Music ''Survey'' or 'Surv-hay'

Okay...not sure if it's actually a survey or what. Just thought it'd give a chance to peer into musical tastes and a way to expose other groups / singers/ bands/ etc...

Wasn't terribly sure if I should put it in here or in Off-Topic. But I figured here might be best. So here goes, just copy and paste the questions and re-fill with your own answers:

-What do you look for in a song?

Hmm, more often than not, melody, something beyond the typical. All your deep and meaningful, or fun lyrics won't mean jack to me if the music that goes with it sounds like it makes me want to shoot myself in the face with a sledgehammer. Of course, the same also applies to great music that might be accompanied by lyrics which sound like they were written by a brain dead badger with a pencil taped to his paw...

-What is your favorite genre?

If I were forced to say...I'm split. On one hand I'm a metal head at heart. It's more about the pure energy I get from listening to it.

Also, at a close tie is the Trip-hop genre. It has an amazing ability to put me in an absolutely tranquil mood and move me from content to sad to however I feel.

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

-Vast: Visual Audio Sensory Theater-This is one of few albums I can say I loved from the moment I heard it. 'Flames' already inhabits my favorite song spot. The rest of the album is pure icing on an already genious cake. Elements of goth, pop, rock, metal, industrial.

-Halou: Wiser- The entire album is very down tempo. Meant to be listened to in those contemplative moments. Get it right and it can make you feel great or devestate you.

-Sarah Brightman: Eden- I've been a fan since the moment I first heard her voice. This is IMO her best album. It's a great blend of the classical for which she made her name and the classical-pop for which she's delved more into on her later albums. Her covers of Dust in the Wind and Who Wants to Live Forever are fantastic.

-What are your top 3 songs?

-Flames by Vast- Absolutely beautiful song. that's all I can really say.

-One Last Goodbye by Anathema- This song broke my heart the first time I heard it, and then when my grandfather died, it brought me to tears.

-Coerced Coexistance by In Flames- I remember the amount of energy I got from this song the first time I heard it. Believe me, it's better to not be in my way if I'm driving and listening to this song.

-What are your top 3 current albums?

1. Rilo Kiley: The Execution of All Things- This is proving to be one of the lyrically best and over all musically best albums I've heard in a LONG time.

2. Ghostface Killah: Fishscale- 9 Millli Bros. f/the Wutang Clan almost made this worth the purchase alone.

3. Placebo- Okay it's pretty really new, but that doesnt make it any less awesome.

-Whats the best live act you've seen?

Okay...this is a hard one...if pressed, I would have to say...the In Flames/ Killswitch Engage/ As I Lay Dying show. Coming out of that battered and bruised and completely willing to do it all over again.

Close second would be the Opeth/ Lacuna Coil/ Yakuza show. Opeth is absolutely fantastic to see given that one moment your thrashing around and the next, busy swaying.

-What song has your favorite intro?

Roads by Portishead- It's so simple and deliberate, yet recognizable, IMO.

Second would be Monsters by the Gathering- For the same reasons as above.

-What song has your favorite chorus?

Okay, this is tough...Trigger by In Flames

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?

Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today 'cause there's only a few
A sign of times my friend

-What song has your favorite ending?
Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean by Nightwish. The entire song is as far as I'm concerned, Nightwish's most epic song. The whole thing is a rather abraisive yet melodic build up to an ending that just feels like it flows like water.

-What is your favorite lyric?
Parisienne Moonlight and Are You There? by Anathema

It's a bit much to put here, so I'll just give a link:Parisienne Moonlight (http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/anathema/judgement.html#7) and Are You There? (http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/anathema/anaturaldisaster.html#4)

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

Beth Gibbons from Portishead.

Her voice is so weathered, she can put more emotion into sounding world weary more than anyone I've heard.

-Who is your favorite bassist?

Actually Don't really have one...

-Who is your favorite guitarist?

Hmm...I'll edit this one later.

-Who is your favorite drummer?

Don't really have one...

-Whats your favorite solo?

Also have to edit this one later...

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

Not really a specific artist. I know some here have made complaints about rap/hip-hop. While I know some comments are un-founded, the whole 'get rich or die trying' attitude is horribly stale, considering the amount of actual worthy stuff is out there. But that's most typical of all genres.

Also, most trite 'singer-songwriter' stuff nowadays. As well as the majority of rock on the radio now too, semi-good lyrics over droning music...

-What do you look for in a song?

In a song, I like either good lyrics, something I can relate to, a good beat, good vocals, or something fun and crazy. I also like music that stands out, and that I haven't really heard before, but then again, sometimes all of my music stays the same :p A song with all of those qualities would be awesome, but apparently, songs usually don't turn out that way

-What is your favorite genre?

Some of my favorite songs are usually in like the rock area (metal, alternative, hard rock, etc.), but I also like some rap/hip-hop and even a few pop songs (like once in a blue moon).

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

Umm out of the ones I have...

Fallen - Evanescence

We Are Not Alone - Breaking Benjamin

Songs About Jane - Maroon 5

-What are your top 3 songs?

It varies from time-to-time. There are some songs I still like very much, but I don't pay as much attention to. At the moment:
"Hips Don't Lie" - Shakira
"Over My Head (Car Cable)" - The Fray
"Bad Day" - Daniel Powter

-What are your top 3 current albums?

Don't really have any "current" favorite albums.

-Whats the best live act you've seen?

Haven't been to a concert, at least not one that I consider memorable.

-What song has your favorite intro?

Not sure.

-What song has your favorite chorus?

"Her Portrait In Black" - Atreyu (for the vocals mostly)

"Can you feel her
Burning through your vains?
She will always live forever
Can you bear the burden?"

OR

"The Sun" - Maroon 5

"But I cannot forget
Refuse to regret
So glad I met you
Take my breath away
Make everyday
Worth all of the pain that I've gone through
And mama I've been cryin´
Cause things ain't how they used to be
She said, the battle's almost won
And we're only several miles from the sun"

Hard choice...I think I have more, but I'd opt not to put them all...

-What song has your favorite ending?

Errrr...I dunno let me think abou it...

-What is your favorite lyric?

Grrr...I dunno!!!

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

Isaac Slade (from The Fray)
Amy Lee (from Ev...duh)
Aaron Lewis (from Staind)

Probably others.

-Who is your favorite bassist?

Who can actually hear the bass anyway??

-Who is your favorite guitarist?

Dunno...Let me get back to you on that...

-Who is your favorite drummer?

Thomas Noonan (36 Crazyfists) and another guy, I just don't remember who the other guy was...

-Whats your favorite solo?

Umm...I forget...

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

I have too many, I don't want to bother listing them all, but the ones that stick out are Hilary Duff, because she thinks she can sing but she's probably extremely tone deaf, 50 Cent (except for a couple of songs) because he mostly writes about sex, money, all of that now common rap stuff that is just getting old, and basically almost any actress turned singer, unless they're good, mainly because they get into the music industry just to get more money in their pockets because they think people are stupid enough to buy it, and they realize how bad they are.

-What do you look for in a song?

Different things, depending on my mood and circumstance. Things that frequently catch my ear are musically interesting, innovative, original, and emotional. Sometimes all it takes is a catchy beat or chorus.

-What is your favorite genre?

I don't really have a favorite genre. I listen to a lot of different music... indie rock and indie pop (from the 80s, 90s, and today), 60s girl groups, 90s "alternative" rock (was a big Smashing Pumpkins fan years ago), film music (Ennio Morricone, Jon Brion, Clint Mansell), traditional and modern folk music, big band and jazz, a little 60s and 70s soul, cheesey 80s synthpop, punk rock (The Clash, Bikini Kill and the other riot grrl bands, Television), etc. Many of my very favorite artists transcend the boundaries of genre - Bjork and Sufjan Stevens, namely.

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

1. Tori Amos: Boys for Pele 1996

Tori is my absolute favorite musician. I honestly love all her albums, but this one tops the list for me. The emotion present in this record's songs is unmatched by any other. Some of my favorite Tori lyrics are on this album, too. It's so difficult just to pick a favorite song from it.

2. My Bloody Valentine: Loveless 1991

This album was SO important in my musical evolution. Listening to it is like entering another world, where everything is lush and blurry and beautiful, drenched in sex and haze and love and ecstasy. From beginning to end, it is a true masterpiece - objectively speaking, this is by far the greatest album of the 90s.

3. Joni Mitchell: Blue 1971

Blue is timeless, a classic in every sense of the word. If someone says they don't like it, they are not to be trusted.

-What are your top 3 songs?

This is a difficult one, but I'll try it...

1. Stevie Wonder's "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)"

Unique in the sense that it's a love song that's about not yet being in love, but being optimistic about a future of love. Brings a smile to my face and touches me every time I hear it.

2. Bjork's "Joga"

Pure magic in the form of music. Really, the entire Homogenic album is breath-taking, though Post is my personal favorite from Bjork...

3. The Smiths' "Asleep"

It's just a really lovely song that I have a connection to.

-What are your top 3 current albums?

1. Sufjan Stevens: Illinois

Best album released last year, hands down. I bought it last year and am still finding new ways to fall in love with the songs. "Casimir Pulaski Day" = <3

2. Kathleen Edwards: Back to Me

I was a bit disappointed in it at first, but it's grown on me a lot recently. The second half still has yet to capture my love, but the first half is wonderful.

3. Le Tigre: Le Tigre

It's actually an old favorite that I've recently gone back to. Kathleen Hanna is my hero in everything that she does.

-Whats the best live act you've seen?

Ben Folds, most definitely. It's one thing when a musician can display their talent live; it's the ability to really involve the audience which makes a show great. Ben Folds was so charming and funny. Even if I didn't enjoy his music, I'd still enjoy his performance.

-What song has your favorite intro?

The Pixies' "Where Is My Mind." Like Blue, it is classic.

-What song has your favorite chorus?

Sleater-Kinney's "Faraway" has an amazing urgency, just pulsing with passion.

-What song has your favorite ending?

Spiritualized "Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space," perhaps.

-What is your favorite lyric?

I don't have just one, or just two, or even just five favorite lyrics. However, one of my favorites lyrically is Ani Difranco's "Not a Pretty Girl."

"Generally, my generation wouldn't be caught dead working for the man
Generally, I agree with them
The trouble is you gotta have yourself an alternate plan
I have earned my disillusionment
I have been working all of my life
And I am a patriot - I have been fighting the good fight

And what if there are no damsels in distress? What if I KNEW that, and I called your bluff?
Don't you think every kitten figures out how to get down?
Whether or not you ever show up?"

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

Jeff Buckley. His voice was simultaneously otherworldly and organic, honest and ethereal.

-Whats your favorite solo?

The guitar solo in "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles is quite great.

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

I'm generally pretty annoyed by most musicians/bands who do nothing but sell themselves on ridiculous "woe-is-me" teen angst - Linkin Park and the like make me want to vomit a little bit. There's no real genre that I dislike, though.

-What do you look for in a song?
It depends. I love meaningful lyrics, but I also love to have something to dance to. When it comes to dancing music, I look for a good beat, something fun. Other times I look for something heavy, something to rock out to. Other times I look for meaningful deep lyrics. It all depends.

-What is your favorite genre? I like everything. Seriously. I love pop, rock, metal, 60's, 50's, 70's, 80's, rap, hip hop, country. You name it, it grows on me.

Not sure

-Who is your favorite drummer?

Don't really have one

-Whats your favorite solo?

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why? My Chemical Romance or Faith No More.

MCR is just so...depressing. The vocalist obviously doesnt know what the hell to do either. I've really never heard a song by them that has ever appealed to me lyrically or sound wise.

FNM's vocalist is terrible. I cant stand to hear that guy try to cough out a lyric. The lyrics have never made sense to me either. If I cant understand what in the world its saying, I'm not listening to it.

Lol, who's gonna read this, anyway.
Yes, guess I'm just bored!

-What do you look for in a song?

Uhm well... In a song I look for lyrics which talk to me, and make sense to me. That's probably why the most songs I like are kinda dark, melancholic and epic. I find myself sometimes searching for compassion in songs sometimes. Songs are actually the words which can talk to me deepest. When it's words you can rely on with a tune that also touches you somehow at the same time, you cannot find better solace.

-What is your favorite genre?

Uhm, well I listen to almost ALL kinda music.
But I think my favourite genre might be metallica. I like most black/punk/goth/heavy/power-metal. :)

-What song has your favorite chorus?

"Before the dawn" - Evanescence

"Maybe tonight
We'll fly so far away
We'll be lost before the dawn"

Those lines almost make my heart burst...

OR

'Suicide is Painless' by Marilyn Manson

"Suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please"

Oh, please don't take it too seriously. I just think there's something very beautiful over these lines...

-What song has your favorite ending?

Toxicity by SOAD

"When I became the sun
I shone life into the man's hearts"

Really, it's not the lyrics I like most.
It's the sudden way he just ends the song.
That's the way all songs should end! Lol.. :p

-What is your favorite lyric?

Uhm... That's a difficult one.
But the reason why I am a big fan of Ev. is because I can relate so much to their songs/LYRICS.

My favourite lyric is therefore 'Before The Dawn' by Ev.

What do you look for in a song?

Well I like to hear melodic music, especially dark music. I also like epic and/or heavy music. Lyrics are also very important. I generally dont like artists with meaningless lyrics.

-What is your favorite genre?

Gothic or Symphonic metal

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

Nightwish - Century Child
Its a perfect album. I love everything about it. The beauty of the lyrics, the lush vocals, the music, the melodies and every song on the album is just amazing.

Tristania - Beyond The Veil
Again every song on this album is amaxing. I think its Tristania's best album. I think Vibeke's vocals are just fantastic and she really shows off her talent in Angina and A Sequel of Decay.

Epica - The Phantom Agony
This album, is fantastic. I love Mark Jansens lyrics. I find truth in what he says. The songs are so passionate and epic and Simone's vocals, are astounding.

-What are your top 3 songs?

Ghost Love Score by Nightwish. I nearly cried the first time I heard it being performed live. It is the best song ever!!! I love the story, the chorus, the melodies, the climax of the song is just amazing.

Beauty of the Beast
This Nightwish song is very personal to me. I love the honesty of the lyrics and again, how powerful and epic both the vocals and the music are.

Facade of Reality
I love the lyrics in the song and Mark Jansens growls are brilliant.

-What are your top 3 current albums?

The albums I'm currently listening to non-stop are

King Arthur OST - Hans Zimmer
I love this album so much. Since I bought it a few months ago, it hasnt come out of my stereo. I heard the music first, at a Nightwish gig and I loved it. The music is so epic and powerful.

Nightwish - Century Child
My favourite album ever...I dont need to say anymore.

Children of Bodom - Follow The Reaper
This album kicks ass. Its fantastic up really loud and great for playing air guitar!

Nightwish - Hammersmith Apollo last September. I was speechless after it, it was so amazing.

-What song has your favorite intro?

A Sequel of Decay by Tristania.

-What song has your favorite chorus?

The best chorus to sing along to (especially at a gig) is Hate Crew Deathroll by Children of Bodom - its very anthemic.

The best chorus, lyrically is Bless the Child by Nightwish.

-What song has your favorite ending?
FantasMic Part III is an amazing ending to a fantastic song.

-What is your favorite lyric?
Dead Boys Poem by Nightwish

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

It was Tarja Turunen but now she's gone :( so now its Vibeke Stene from Tristania.

Jukka Nevalainen of Nightwish or Roy Mayorga from Soulfly

-Whats your favorite solo?

Every Children of Bodom solo...they're all so OTT.

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

Hmmmm I cant pick one! There are many genres of music I despise but I can respect an artist if they are good at what they do even if I dont like what they do. I have no respect for most rap artists, indie bands, dreary singer songwriters and 99.999999% of pop artists. Some pop artists I can respect like Pink but others (the usual suspects...Britney, Christina, Avril Lavigne) make me sick. Also I dont like Emo or pop punk bands like Green Day.

My favorite songs always change with my mood, but at this point....
"Going Under"-Evanescence
"This Time Imperfect"-AFI
"Slaying the Dreamer"- Nightwish

-What are your top 3 current albums?

I'm gonna assume this means the last three you bought...
AFI- Decemberunderground
AFI-Very Proud of Ya
AFI- Black Sails in the Sunset

If not and it means your current favorites....

Evanescence- Fallen
AFI- Sing the Sorrow
Lacuna Coil- Comalies

-Whats the best live act you've seen?

Best and only, I saw the Presidents of the United States of America at some amusement park thing I went to. I forgot what it was, but it was really cool seeing them. I'm sure Evanescence and AFI would be awesome to see to, and I am desperately hoping I get to see Evanescence this year or next.

-What song has your favorite intro?

All of Evanescence's rock.
I like Nemo- Nightwish The piano is just beautifully done in that song... and when Tarja's voice comes in it's just so beautiful

-What song has your favorite chorus?

oooh... tuffie....
Evanescence once again.
Animal I've Become- Three Days Grace (again)

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe, it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become
Help me believe, it's not the real me,
Somebody help me tame this animal!!!!

-What song has your favorite ending?

nightwish- Nemo. The ending is just soooo beautiful. It gives me chills EVERY time I hear it.

-What is your favorite lyric?

All of Evanescences and AFI's
but to pick an actual song....
Animal I've Become- Three Days Grace

I can't escape this hell
So many times i've tried
But i'm still caged inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one would ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal
(This animal, this animal)

I can't escape myself
(I can't escape myself)
So many times i've lied
(So many times i've lied)
But there's still rage inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one would ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal

Somebody help me through this nightmare
I can't control myself
Somebody wake me from this nightmare
I can't escape this animal

This animal [x7]

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal
(This animal I have become)

-What do you look for in a song?

I usually look for the emotion and pain through the lyrics or the singer's voice, if it's going to be mellow. If it's going to be an ear breaking in your face song, then it would have superb catchy drumming or just a certain energy and power within the song

-What is your favorite genre?
I would like to say metal but I'm also a fan of mellow mood music

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

- Zer0space by kidneythieves. The whole dark vibe and the sound is just amazing. It kind of gives me this drifting into my own world feeling. I really can not believe a band with this much talent would go thier seperate ways.

- Grace by Jeff buckley. What more can I say. His voice is beautiful and all the songs on this album have a hint of saddness to them. It's one of those albums that I want to put on softly while zoning out on a cool rainy day. It sets such a calm mood.

- Fallen by evanescence. I have had overplayed cd's, but this cd is just something I can not even begin to describe. I have NEVER gotten sick of this and it is overplayed so many times, yet it always remains on the top of my listen list. The frustration and that hint of saddness is beautiful. Every song just captures you.

-What are your top 3 songs?

1. Descend The Shades Of Night by Machinehead

2. Rooster by Alice In Chains

3. Soma by Smahing Pumpkins

-What are your top 3 current albums?

Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums by A Perfect Circle

-What song has your favorite ending?

Seen It All by Korn. I was almost in tears when I herd it for the first time and the dramatic end started to kick in.

-What is your favorite lyric?

Autopsy Song - Otep

it's simple yet honast. I feel as if this song was written about me

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

Amy Lee

Linda Perry

-Who is your favorite bassist?

I don't have one

-Who is your favorite guitarist?

nope, don't have one

-Who is your favorite drummer?

as above...

-Whats your favorite solo?

as above....

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

hmmm, I've never been the type to hate a band/artist. I just see music as a beautiful thing, and I just think it's amazing how wide the range of music is. If I had to hate anything regarding an artist/band, it would be if they sing about ridiculous things like sex, money, drugs - like the rap lyrics. so silly!

What do you look for in a song?
Number one, good lyrics. Sometimes I'm not too picky with lyrics if they can back it up with a catchy tune, but I can't listen to extremely cliche stuff that a monkey could write. Oh, yeah, and that catchy tune. And a good singing voice.

What is your favorite genre?
I guess pop/rock, if that's an actual genre. I'm really getting into Christian rock/alt, too. It varies, though.

What are your top 3 favorite albums?
Well Fallen is definately #1, hands down.
The other two would change alot I guess. I guess Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway and Relient K's Mmhm. They just have amazing songs that I've been listening to forever and still am not tired of.

What are your top three songs?
That's so freaking hard!! I don't even have 3 favorite Evanescence songs. Well, if I had to choose, it would be these (in no specific order): Defying Gravity from Wicked, Whisper by Evanescence, and Never Alone by Barlowgirl. I don't know, though. Those could change daily, even hourly.

What are your top 3 current albums?
Ooh, an easy question! #1, the sountrack to the musical Wicked. I sooo wish I could see the play, but as it is, I'm just stuck here listening to the soundtrack until it gets imprinted in my brain. Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth are amazing singers.
#2 Flyleafs debut album...it's great! Lacey is has such a unique voice, and I love the Christian themes behind the songs. Their main message is that there's hope even in the worst of situations, and I love that.
#3 Barlowgirl's second album Another Journal Entry. Another Christian band, except less grunge than Flyleaf, and more pop/rock. Their songs are so inspiring and can be preached to any young person, even ones who haven't been through anything traumatic. I feel my spirit get renewed each time I listen to this album (along with their first one) and reflect on the meanings of the songs.

What's the best live act you've ever seen?
Out of the whopping three? Kelly Clarkson. She's an amazing singer and has lots of energy on stage.

What song has your favorite intro?
I really, honestly, don't know. I'm thinking Imaginary, with the aaaah paper flowers. Or the live version of BMTL on the Anywhere But Home album.

What song has your favorite chorus?
Defying Gravity! Although the words change for the chorus each time.

It's time to try defying gravity
I think I'll try defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

I'd sooner buy defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down

Just you and I, defying gravity
With you and I, defying gravity
They'll never bring us down

Tell them how I am defying gravity
Flying so high, defying gravity
And soon I'll match them in renown

Those were all the variations of the chorus. The lyrics might not seem like much, but if you actually heard the melody along with the beautiful piano that goes on right there, it'd send chills down your spine. I also love another chorus from a musical (this time RENT) that has variations, go figure. The song is Another Day and I don't know if you could actually count these as choruses, but they're Mimi's parts:

There's only us, there's only this
Forget regret or life is yours to miss
No other road, no other way
No day but today

There's only yes, only tonight
We must let go to know what's right
No other course, no other way
No day but today

There's only now, there's only here
Give into love or live in fear
No other path, no other way
No day but today

Again, amazing melody, etc etc. Ok, I think it's high time to move on to the next question.

What song has your favorite ending?
Defying Gravity comes to mind. That's one heck of a powerful ending. Also the movie version of the song Phantom of the Opera.

What is your favorite lyric?
When I am asked this question, the first lyrics that come to mind are Imaginary. There is not one line in that song that I don't find impressive. I don't need to write them here, since you probably know how the song goes.

Who is your favorite vocalist?
Amy Lee has my vote.

Who is your favorite bassist?
I don't pay attention to bassits, and I don't listen to THAT many bands...

Who is your favorite guitarist?
I also don't pay attention to guitarists. I know alot of people do, but as a singer myself, I tend to focus on that aspect of music.

Who is your favorite drummer?
See last few questions.

What's your favorite solo?
What kind of solo? Uh...I don't know how to answer this question.

Who is your most hated band/artist and why?
Easy: 50 Cent! Because I despise his music and my sister loves it. Because his lyrics are some of the worst, and he is SOOOOOOO concieted. He raps about how great he is and about how everyone else sucks. And about how rich and ghetto he is. And all his songs sound the same.

-What do you look for in a song?

Good and meaningful lyrics and vocals are what I'm most picky about. If a song has both of those, I tend to like it. Guitars and especially drums are important too. Usually, if I can't get into the drumming of a song, then I can't get into the song.

-What do you look for in a song?

I look for an outstanding singer. Really - someone who sounds strong, different. I also like catchy riffs, and excessive use of piano.

-What is your favorite genre?

I'm a bit of a mixed bag really. Symphonic metal, prog rock, 80's synth pop, straight up pop, metal.

-What are your top 3 favorite albums?

Wishmaster - Nightwish
It blends the metal side of nightwish with the symphonic side of nightwish. Also it has the greatest opener on all albums of the 'wish - who can ever forget "BOOMBOOMBOOMduhduhduhduhduhduhduhd" (that's how I put it anyway.)

Depeche Mode - Violater
Do I even need to explain this one? This album is so very very sexy, and synthy, and brilliant. Favourite tracks, Halo, World in my eyes and of course enjoy the silence. His voice is understated, but it leaves such an impact on you.

Muse - Origin of Symmetry
I got into muse 11 days ago and this is already in my top three. That's how amazing it is. I defy anyone to listen to new born and not immediately convert into a muse fan. Stretch it like it's a birth squeeze. <3 But yes, there are no bad songs on this album. And matt bellamy's voice is really really really amazingly good.

-What are your top 3 songs?

toughieeee. Currently they are ALL BY MUSE. But overall I guess it would have to be:

Nightwish - ghost love score. I picked this one just because it's so long it's gotta have a bit of everything in there. I especially love the "my fall will be for you." EPIC.

Muse - New Born. It has the lyric "birth squeeze" in it. It must rock. But seriously, I love this song because it demonstrates the Bellameisters voice so amazingly well and I love the way the song starts out with just a piano and I think a synthy thingy, and then the guitar kicks in. It's just awesome.

Echo and the Bunnymen - the killing moon. There is something really mystical about this song. I like how it isn't just "blargh I'm in love with someone and they cheated on meeee" - if you listen to it, it really says a lot of things lyrically about life, fate and how much control we really have.

-What are your top 3 current albums?

Lolz.

1. Muse - origin of symmetry
2. Muse - Absolution.
3. Muse - black holes and revelations.

Oh how I love muse.

-Whats the best live act you've seen?

I've only been to evanescence (and muse have sold out. Damn me for liking a popular band.)

-What song has your favorite intro?

At the mo (in my current muse crazyness) - it would have to be newborn. Oh the piano.

Otherwise nightwish and she is my sin.

-What song has your favorite chorus?

Currently Plug in Baby by muse. Overall... I don't know. not much of a chorus girl when it comes to symphonic metal... Enjoy the silence by depeche mode. It's touching, groovy.

-What song has your favorite ending?
Gethsemane - nightwish

-What is your favorite lyric?
My favourite specific lyric is... "stretch it like it's a birth squeeze." Come on the phrase is AWESOME. Overall echo and the bunnymen the killing moon though.

-Who is your favorite vocalist?

Don't make me fucking choose. Tarja Turunen, Amy Lee, Matt Bellamy, Simone Simons, David Gahan.

-Who is your favorite bassist?
Marco from nightwish. For his wicked beard.

-Who is your favorite guitarist?

Don't really have one. I'll just be really really boring and say Matt Bellamy for about the billionth time. I know he's not like Hendrix, but I like his riffage.

-Who is your favorite drummer?

BRIAN FROM THE DRESDEN DOLLS. I'm really bummed that I totally forgot to mention the dresden dolls. I blame muse.

-Whats your favorite solo?

The Rachmaninov piano solo from butterflies and hurricanes. I would actually die with glee were I to hear that live.

-Who is your most hated band/artist and why?

I'm not really into screamo. I prefer singers. ;)

EDIT: because keys players are the ween.

LoLz. I'm saying Matt Bellamy again. I love him at the moment <3. Tuomas out of nightwish is a good composer, but live he just sort of bashes chords.
