View Full Version : My modem doesn't work

Okay, here's the deal. I just bought a laptop (an HP Pavilion ZT1000 to be exact). I am running Windows XP Home SP1, with a 40G HD and 512 MB RAM. When I plug in the phone line, if Windows is already running, it freezes. If I plug the line in while the computer is off, everything is fine until I try to use the modem, at which point it tells me my drivers are too old. The modem is an ESS Superlink-M Datafax Modem (ES2838/ES2839SuperLink-M ES56H-PI). I downloaded the new drivers from the ESS Technologies Website (http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm#comm), but the modem is still not working. The Ethernet and wireless connections are fine, but at home I only have access to dialup, which means I need my 56K modem! Please help if you can. I can supply any information you need.

Thanks!
Mary
