Since I have no talent at all in writing or drawing, I decided to share some of my photograps. I've been photographing only a short time, so I'm not a good photographer, although I'd like to think someday I will be.

So here are some random pictures I've taken:

I'll post more pictures later, whether you like it or not :p

Ok, here is two panoramas I've taken this summer.

Wow, thank you all so much for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it. I don't have too many good photos yet because I've been phographing only a short time. Recently the weather has been just dreadful, not a chance for good photos.

While I wait for better weather (and dig through the photos I've already taken), here are some old pictures I took the day I got my camera:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/IMG_0090_edit2.jpg

Well it's not that near, maybe a kilometer away. It was such a beautiful evening I just took my camera and had a walk.

Edit.

Here's couple pictures more, the second one is a bit of an experiment (not too fond of it).

Edit. I took some pictures today, this is from the central railway station in Helsinki:

Wow, you have been to some pretty amazing places! I really all of them but my favorites are : The grey leaves with the one yellow leaf, The winter one in your first post, and the winter one in your last post. (okay, so I'm obsessed with fall and winter. :) lol You are a nice photographer. The best thing to learn while doing photography is experiment with different ideas and mediums-- a lot like art. You know different areas that you photograph, play around with the color of the photos-- black and white, sepia, all color.... all black and white with one thing in color-- it puts a nice emphasis on the things that you want to be the first to notice. Photography is art. I am taking a photography class in the 2nd semester this year, and I am hoping to experiment with other things besides these.

Hope to see more of your photography soon!

It seems that I like 1 out of 100 of my photographs, that's why I don't update this thread every day. Here's one I took today and I liked it:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/IMG_0774_edit2.jpg

It's not special in any way, but I think the shadows look cool.

PS. Thank you all for the comments, it's nice to see people like my photos.

Wow, the sun does create a nice effect, especially the shadows it casts on the ground! It was a great choice for a picture. The dead grass and trees creates that almost winter, but not quite yet feel. It shows the "dead," but in the way you captured the sun behind it, it gives it a lively feel.

Nice!:)

I love winter. A lot. In fact, it's easily my favourite season. So when I opened my curtains this morning, I almost started dancing around :D

Here's why:

Now I know it could melt anyday (it's like that in southern Finland :/), but I'll enjoy the snow while we still have it.

Thanks for the compliments. I just love it when there's snow on the ground, it brings lightness even at night.

I took some photos about 10 minutes ago (it's 0.30 am now), and as you can guess, they turned up with lots of noise and blur because I don't have a tripod. I just hope that the weather is the same tomorrow, I'd love to get some decent photos.

Anyway, here's one that wasn't a total failure:

My goodness. Your photos are fabulous, it's supposed to snow in England - I think it has snowed everywhere else in England this weekend apart from the Northwest.

I hope it snows for ages where you are, especially since you love the snow - I love your snow pictures!

What camera do you use?

Dropper
11-27-2005, 06:36 AM
I use a older model of Canon Digital Ixus 430. The only real problem is that the luminosity (I'm not sure that's the word) isn't good enough.

Thanks again for the nice words. And Julie, you're welcome here anytime ;)

http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/STA_0903_panoramat.jpg (http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/STA_0903_panorama.jpg)

I don't like it nearly as much as the one I posted before, but I thought you might wan't to see it. It has some flaws, like you can see where the photos are stitched together, but all in all I think it's pretty nice. The scene looks best when looking the panorama in it's original size (about 6500x1200), but I thought posting that would be a little overkill.

Hi Henrik,
I totally love your work. You have quite the eye with capturing beauty. There is so much depth and detail in your photographs. I love the high contrast in the rose pictures and I totally love the snow ones. Keep up taking pictures. I would definatly save some of these and put them in a portfolio of some sort and you may be able to use them as a professional photographer.

Karen

p.s. I think the rose pictures would make a wonderful desktop or wallpaper.

Thank you, those words really mean a lot to me. I don't know about the portfolio, but maybe one day when I have improved as an photographer. My photos tend to be pretty similar, that's why I need to learn different styles (and definately get a better camera).

But maybe I'll make a website for my photos, you never know :)

If you wanted to do photography professionally, a portfollio would be great. It would show how you've grown, also your different styles.
What kind of camera do you use? You may have mentioned it, but I havn't really read any of the posts. Just checked out the photo's. I am looking at getting a new digital camera next year. It runs about 500 bucks. http://konicaminolta.com/products/consumer/digital_camera/dimage/dimage-z6/index.html

I use a Canon Digital Ixus 430, it's the equivalent of the Ixus 40. I'm thinking of getting the Canon EOS 350D (http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/eos_350d/index.asp). I't pretty expensive at around 1000 bucks (with the EF-S 18-55 MM lens), but I think it would be a good camera.

I'm going to wait for a while before I buy it, maybe sometime next year.

I hope you can make a web gallery of your photos. You are adding value to my evboard experience by posting such tranquil scenes!

I can't believe you are achieving these photos with a standard digital compact. Canon are good but heck, you fooled me into believing those panoramas were shot with specialist equipment. Do you use a tripod for the panoramas? I think I'll post some photos of mine in my thread.

Bravo

Dropper

Thank you, nice to hear you enjoyed my photos. :)

I used my friends tripod (I'm getting one from my parents as a Christmas present) to take those panoramas, except the one by the sea in my first post.

You should see one of my ex-co-workers (what a word  ) photos, he can use a camera phone and get better photos than me :) (ok maybe not, but he's damn good).

I'm thinking of that website, but I'd have to learn to code first. I know html but I wan't to use CSS/xhtml only, because I'm a purist :p I could put up a generated webgallery though...

PS. Oh yeah, be sure to post those photos, I'd love to see them.

Css, sheesh! Unless you want to be a programmer or have three days to learn the basics of css on top of html I'd advise you to get hold of a template for a gallery and customise it yourself. I've been working as a web designer for a year now and css isn't straight forward because you have to hack it to enable it to display properly in multiple browsers. Web design is pretty good though if you are thinking of going into it. I switched to it from product design by chance of finding a local company and starting off on a low wage in exchange for experience. It proved to be worth it.

But you seem to have a keen eye so maybe photography is your thing. Get a good camera and submit those photos to a stock photography website. You're too good for the likes of istock. Maybe look into printing onto canvas and selling prints, that panorama of the lake is superb.

And yeah - with the photos, I'll put a few up and let you know. Thanks for the interest.

Funny you should mention it, I'm starting my computer-related studies (I don't really know what it is English) in January, and one of my options is to become a programmer :) That's one reason why I though I should learn css.

As I said in an earlier post, I think I'm getting a new camera sometime next year, maybe for the summer. We'll see, the one I wan't is pretty expensive, and I am very careful when it comes to using my money.

While selling my photos would be great, I just don't think I'm good enough for it just yet. I mean I've been photographing a lot only 3 months now. Before that I used my camera once every other month, and only for a year. I guess what I mean is that the photos people seem to like (the river photos, not lake btw :)), were taken in exceptionally good conditions. It's not like I can take photos like that every day. So setting up a store for my photos is a bit too much in my opinion.

Anyway, thank you for the suggestions, I really appreciate every comment I get (negative too, I have much to learn).

I have to say I love this thread!

It's interesting how similair our two countries look in terms of scenery. Can you post pictures of houses too? I would love to see what your houses look like. I don't know if you saw my thread but I posted some pictures I took on sunday afternoon.

Just a thought, are there any useful links you have found on the internet to do with photography tutorials for compact digital cameras? If I find any myself I'll keep you in mind and post them on to you.

Sunset is such a good time to take pictures and I'd love to know how you took that picture facing the sun without the rest of the image appearing in shadow!

First, thank you for the comments.

Spiderfall, yeah I can take some photos of houses, but I have to warn you, our house is built in the 60s with as little money as possible, so it's basically a row house which has been made of concrete pieces. Nice! But we do have some nice one-family houses here which i could show you.

I looked at your photos and they're great! I especially like the one from the back of the dam. The panorama is great too, although there is some noise in the haze (doesn't really matter though).

I haven't really read anything related to photography, I've just experimented. But feel free to post if you find useful links, I'm interested in them for sure.

That photo was actually taken 2 PM, but it's winter so you could call it sunset :) About the lighting, I just aim the camera so that the sun doesn't hit the lens and focus it, then I move it to face the sun and voilá! A nice photo :)

Edit.

I've not had a proper look at it - I just know that craig uses it for his website and diamon does too. wonder has a flash web gallery that he has his pictures on - he's working as a photographer.

I don't know which picture is best either, I think the one without the round street sign in the middle is more tidy. However, the second one has the line of trees and the curve of the road that give it a nice flow. Sorry, I'm not very good at choosing either. If you just submitted either one I would have said this very same thing:

AWESOME SUNSET

I can see what I can do with them Dropper. Hope I can re-create it. I was just messing around. I do have a HQ pic that isn't scaled down

Edit: I can't get the file to open up. Says that it is corrupted or not a supported file format. I tried winzip and winrar and neither will extract it.

Here is a HQ version of the pic. It looks alright as a wallpaper. see what you think. even stretched to fit it doesn't distort any because of the way it's designed. HQ Wallpaper (http://rapidshare.de/files/9483620/sunset2.jpg.html)

It does scale pretty nicely, but 1600x1200 it a bit too much, the borders get very jagged.

Hey Mr Dropper, you should check out the work of an artist called Andy Goldsworthy (http://tachedesanglot.hautetfort.com/album/andy_goldsworthy_land_art/) Your picture of the yellow maple leaf against the frosty leaves reminded me of his work but I forgot to mention it at the time. So now I am:)

Spiderfall, thanks for the link, he has some really nice artwork in there.

Noxious, I did edit that picture in Photoshop. I altered the colors so that the leave in the middle would stand out better.

Edit. I messed around in Photoshop too, and got pretty similar results as TatersMomma. Here's a wallpaper in 1600x1200: Sunset. (http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/Sunset_1600.jpg) If you wan't some other sizes let me know.

Hey everybody, sorry I haven't been posting any photos lately, but I've been very busy just being lazy during the holidays :)

I wasn't actually going to take any photos today, I just took my camera when I went to a walk. The weather turned out to be really nice, so I took some sunset photos (yeah I know, again  ). I'm just going to post one for know, because they're pretty similar.

The last one is a cool composition. Is it a sunrise or a sunset?

I went out for a walk yesterday with my camera just to get some daylight and tried taking pictures but it was too grey and misty. The sky just looks white in the pictures.

Is it grey skys where you live in Finland for most of the winter months? I completely live in the wrong part of the country for daylight conditions. Apparently, in the southwest of England they get clearer skys, but that could just be a false observation by a guy I know that moved there.

It's a sunset. The weather was pretty nice.

Yeah we do have a lot of grey skies, for example today. But it really changes from year to year, some winters all we get is sunshine.

I'd really like to visit England, there are so much thing I'd like to photograph. You have such a beautiful landscapes, and architechture (at least what I've seen on tv :) )

"I will continue to bore you with similar photos" I'm terribly sorry to tell you, but your attempts to bore me are failing miserably. Thank goodness you're better at taking pictures. :D
The second picture is easily the best sunset pic you've posted so far. The low horizon and the branches in the upper half of the photo make the composition in this one very nice.

"I'm getting worried because I can't think of anything else to photograph before the snow melts. I have no new ideas..." I'd say just shoot stuff (with your camera ;)) you wouldn't shoot normally. You're using a digicam so it's not like you would be wasting film or anything. Maybe, after seeing the pics you took, you'll get inspired. For example: I shot powerlines (the huge steel frame type) last week, just to try something different and I like the way the pics turned out.

Hey, different stuff! ;):D

Pic 1: I like the composition in this one: a bit of light at the top and the bottom of the photo + the birch trunk to break up the symmetry. Just wondering: where you live, are there any of those forests that consist of just birch trees or does one have to go further to the north to see that? I've seen photos of such forests and all the white trunks create a very nice effect. (hint ;):D)

Pic 2: I always like photos in which the sun is behind the subject and the subject shows up as black.

Hope to see more soon!

Hey Mark, thanks for the comment once again.

These photos were actually taken about 500 meters from our house, so no, you don't have to go north for forests like this.

I took other photos too, I will go through them again later and if I find something I like, I'll post them.

spiderfall

I'm not as keen on these photos as the panoramics or the sunsets you capture.

I'm not seeing the reason you chose to take the first one. The sky is oversaturated and there is little interest. The only thing I see that is unusual is that there is snow on the ground but none covering the trees and it creates a strong contrast. The sunlight on the snow is ok too but because it's a bunch of trees with no shapes between them it's not all that impressive especially when compared to all the other dramatic scenes and weather conditions you've captured.

Picture two is cool because you've positioned the sun at the intersection of the branches so it is almost like a black starburst.

I think trees are a tricky one, and your pine forests are too dense with trees to be of any use for interesting close up compositions.

I'd like to see a hill side view with merging valleys carpeted in Pine trees at sunset. Set forth and take that this afternoon! That would be special :)

Dropper
03-17-2006, 10:42 AM
I liked the first one because the sunlight makes the branches glow and the atmosphere is very good. To be honest, I didn't try anything spectacular with that photo, but the weather was so good that I wanted to capture it without showing some dull photos of a frozen river.

As for the sunset, unfortunately it's cloudy now and the sun is setting in 20 minutes. But I'll keep that suggestion in mind when it's clear again.

Thanks for the critisism, I appreciate it.

You get to see some great sunsets up there in Finland! Must be the clean(er) air. :D Have you ever considered using a sunset like this (with little or no clouds) as a background for another subject, instead of using the sunset itself as the main subject? For example, I think a photo of only the tallest pine tree on the left (or just a pine branch) as a silhouette against the brightly colored sky could look absolutely amazing. It’s just an idea. :)

Hi Dropper. I really like these latest sunset pictures. I can tell you must have waited outside for a good length of time.

Looking at your pictures and studying the last shred of the sun as it disappears behind the horizon made me realise I've never watched the sun set or rise fully. Near me, there's nowhere within walking distance I can go to view it. It disappears behind houses. I want to witness a sunset looking out to sea or across a really flat plain.

Do you alter the pictures at all? The colours seem to be very defined and the light levels seem perfect.

Btw have you checked out Flickr.com? No need to make that custom photo gallery anymore ;)

Dropper
04-01-2006, 05:55 PM
Thanks for the comments. Spiderfall, yeah I did wait for the right moment for a while, though I have photos from +-30 minutes around the sunset.

I do alter the photos a bit, mainly levels and sharpness in ps. I don't do anything to the colours though. They usually looks pretty nice without any alterations, but I think that there's nothing wrong in doing what I do. It's not like I manipulate them or something :)

PS. I've visited flicks couple of times, but I have to look in to it a bit closer.

spiderfall
04-01-2006, 06:21 PM
I'll own up to using the amazing shadow and highlight tool in Photoshop CS2 on a few of my pictures. I swear the canon cameras give good contrast and levels though. I've got a sony cybershot and the colours are desaturated and cold and you've seen my sunset pictures. I took sunsets at every setting on that camera and none of them turn out like yours without tweaking. On my camera if you point at the sky you get the sky and the landscape is dark, and if you take the landscape then the sky is really bright with no colour because the brightness is increased to capture the ground level. I regret not buying the canon IXus - it's smaller too.

My Cybershot only gives great pictures on a sunny day when the sun is behind you and even then the colous aren't accurately re-produced.

They say a poor workman blames his tools, but believe me I've taken my camera to the limit with light levels and I know what I can get away with on all the settings.

Just want to know; have you ever made 20 test shots on a sunset just to see which setting gave the best result? Nothing seems to reproduce what the eye sees for me. Only digital SLR or your pictures give such well balanced results.

What is your secret?

Dropper
04-01-2006, 07:11 PM
I have to be honest with you, that's not excactly what the sunset looked like. Like you said, it's VERY hard to get the colours right. What I do is I use a custom white balance, it gives me the best results. I do try different setting every time I take photos, so that I can get the best settings for that specific weather.

Here is a picture of that sunset with the automatic setting. This isn't what it really looked like, but it's closer than my previous photos.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/IMG_1704_edit.jpg

As you can see, the sky is more blue (way too blue actually). The actual sunset was more pink than orange (after the sun was behind the horizon, that is), but I just couldn't capture it. I've tried to get it as realistic as possible, but usually I just end up using my own white balance (only in sunset/camera facing sun photos).

So I really don't have any secret. Just some things I've come up while experimenting. You're right about the camera though, it does give a pretty good value for the money.

Edit. Come to think of it, those prevous photos may be actually a bit closer than the one in this post. The automatic setting really messes up the colors.

I really like the first pic because of its composition.

The pine branch picture doesn't look too bad either! :D;)
Some minor things I would have done differently (note: this is more about personal taste than about doing it "right or wrong"): I would have cut a bit off of the right side of the picture until it's square and I would have avoided having the subject toughing the horizon (both for a, in my opinion, nicer composition). But still, a very nice photo!

Your photos are absolutely amazing. The scenery in Finland is breathtaking.

Do you have any tips on how to get a good crisp shot? I have an 8 MegaPixel Canon Powershop SD550, but I can't seem to get a decent shot without flash, and the flash ruins shots if it's up close.

Dropper
04-15-2006, 04:10 AM
As you can see, I'm more in to photographing scenery, not anything small. About the sharpness, I just run a ps sharpening filter on my photos, nothing more (and of course no shaking when I'm taking the photo ;)).

What kind of situation do you mean? I have to use flash too if I'm taking photos inside a house. I don't know how familiar you are with your camera, but don't use the automatic setting for everything. I allways use the manual setting and a custom white balance for realistic results. In automatic my camera usually switches the ISO setting to 200, which makes some photos very unfocused. That's why I use ISO 50 for almost everything. It also decreases the amount of noise in my photos.

You can also try a tripod. I have one, and I use it when I'm taking panoramas (and some other shots too).

Thanks for the comments

Hey, another nice shot! I like the clouds in this one. :)

Just curious:
Since I'm using 35mm film and don't know that much about digital cameras, I was wondering about the ISO thing: does the ISO-setting on a digicam affect the aperture/exposure-time requirements the same way it works with film?

For example:
200 ISO film + certain aperture requires a 1/250 sec. exposure
400 ISO film + the same aperture requires a 1/500 sec. exposure (higher ISO = more sensitive ("faster") film --> needs less light to create the image)

If it does, a 50 ISO setting must cause very long exposures (especially with those sunsets) and therefore increased risk of blurry pics. Right? (or wrong? :D)

"I took like 150 photos yesterday :D" *faints* :D Wow, it takes me like 2 months to take that many pics! :D

Anyway, keep shooting (and posting)!

First I have to say I'm NOT an expert when it comes to cameras. I've only used my digital camera, which doesn't really have many settings to adjust. So I'm a bit embarrased to say that I have no idea about focal length and things like that :o I've just taken photos, not really "studied" (which I should've done).

To answer your question: ISO 50 doesn't require me to change the exposure time. I'm not sure how if it's same thing in film cameras, but if I use anything more than ISO 100 my photos are full of noise. Of course if it's darker, I need to use longer exposure times, but those sunsets are usually so bright there is no need for that. I haven't used a tripod in any of my sunset photos, except the panoramas in my first post.

I hope that answered your question :)

Thanks for the comments, both of you.

Thanks for your answer! Then I guess the digital ISO setting just changes the digital processing of the image in your camera. By "noise" you're referring to the grainy effects in the darker parts of some images, right?

"I have no idea about focal length and things like that" The focal length of a lens determines the angle of view and therefore the amount of "zoom".
Short focal lenghts result in a wide angle --> landscapes and so on.
Long focal lenghts result in a narrow angle --> sneaky paparazzi photos. :D

(by the way, a 100mm focal length on a digicam creates way more zoom than 100mm on a 35mm film camera, apparently because a CCD-chip is smaller than a 35mm film frame)

See you!

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, noise means grain in the photos.

It seems that there will be a sunset tonight, you know what that means ;) :D

MarkdV
05-30-2006, 08:54 AM
So, I see you're expanding your range of subjects! :D

I especially like the pic of the bug. The red against the green background really creates a nice contrast. :) (macro-mode?)

I like the idea of the tulip photo, but the background makes it a bit messy, in my opinion. To get a faded background just like the one in the bug pic, you could try using a larger aperture (= smaller F-number) to get a smaller depth of field.

About the panoramas: how on earth do you get these pics to fit together so seamlessly?!? I heard that there is software for stitching several pictures together to create a panorama. Are you using one of those programs?

Keep it up! :)

Dropper
05-30-2006, 01:00 PM
I think the background isn't great, too. The problem is that I can't change the aperture (my camera rocks!). All I can do is use the macro mode and hope for the best.

The panoramas has been stitched together using Photoshop's photomerge-tool.

I haven't gone through this whole thread but I've noticed a lot of sunsets.
In a lot of your sunsets the objects in the front are black-I think you should try experimenting with either getting the sky to have more contrast or giving the objects in front more color.
Also I think some of the pictures need work on their composition:
http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/IMG_1254_edit.jpg
I actually like this photograph: I think it could be better though if the pole or whatever it is was at the very right of the photo and you moved in closer.
In photos like this http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/IMG_0774_edit2.jpg the sun got in the photograph and kind of blinds you.

...I hope this post doesn't sound like I'm trying to rip your photographs.
I'm trying to give out some constructive critcism :) .
What kind of camera do you have? I think you could benefit from a camera that lets you have more control over the technical aspects of photography.
But I do like your work.

You're right about the photo of the ski track, the composition isn't really that good. It could really need some serious cropping. Most of my photos are just snapped randomly, so don't expect anything too artistic :p

I'm still not sure if I'm going to buy the camera, it's a lot of money. And I'm very careful when it comes to using my money. I think that I'm just afraid it would be "too good" for me, since I'm not too skilled, yet.

"that kid is maybe 2 years old, so he would get 100-2 = 98% discount" Hmm. Okay, lucky kid then. :D

About the D50:

"it's a lot of money." Just curious: how much is it including the 18-55mm lens? (I checked out the Nikon website, but I can't find anything about prices.) And keep in mind that you’ll have to buy extra lenses in case you want to take macro pics or want more zoom than the standard lens provides. At least, I can’t imagine this camera having crappy systems like “macro mode” and digital zoom. (yeah, I said it: crappy! :p) The 18-55mm is suitable for anything from close-ups (but not macro) to landscape photography though.

"I think that I'm just afraid it would be "too good" for me, since I'm not too skilled, yet." I don’t think that should be a problem. The D50 is intended for n00bs who never used an SLR before. It’s (supposed to be) a user-friendly camera with a relatively limited amount of options. You just start using it in the fully and semi automatic modes and you’ll learn how it works soon enough. Worked for me too.

About the "I'm just afraid it would be "too good" for me" thing - how do you know that your current camera isn't holding you back?
This sounds like something I think Spiderfall posted about ... somewhere... can't really remember - OK, it was about acrylics vs. oils, but he was basically saying that even if you think you're not good enough for the oil paints, it'll actually come really natural to you and you'll realise how much the acrylics are... not so good.

Something like that.

And how can you even say that in the first place?! You pwn at this.

Mark, I just saw an advert for a D50 + 18-55mm + 70-300mm kit for 800 euros (it's usually about the same without the 300mm lens). But you have to add a memory card and a bag to the price. I'm not going to buy a macro lens right away, I will first familiarize myself with all the features (IF I'll buy the camera).

Blackmagic, you make some good points there. The thing is, I'm just very careful with my money, and always like to test expensive things before buying them. But in this case, I don't think it's possible.

And thanks for the compliment. Check out Gilad's gallery (http://gilad.deviantart.com) at devart; he pwns :p

Hey,

I really enjoy your work. I have a severe fascination with clouds.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/dropper/Photographs/STA_2986_panorama2.jpg

That one is just amazing. I could paint clouds all day ("fluffy white clouds") so photographs like this one help me learn more about clouds.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your work.

It's quite good.

"D50 + 18-55mm + 70-300mm kit for 800 euros (it's usually about the same without the 300mm lens). But you have to add a memory card and a bag to the price." And all those things added up =. I find it quite hard to believe that they would just give you that extra lens for free though. A telezoom lens like that would normally cost you at least 200-300 euros. EDIT: WRONG!! only 120 euros. :o

The 70-300, is that 300mm on a digital camera or is it equivalent to 300mm on a 35mm film cam? (makes quite a difference)

Like I would know that :D It just said 70-300mm on the advert.

Craig, thanks for the comment. Nice to hear you like my work.

... Yes, the heat is nasty.

Especially as half the classrooms don't have fans, and it's a very muggy heat, not a fresh one.

This is a photo from 2004. It didin't look like anything, but with some cropping and color modding it came out pretty nice (I like dark/foggy/autumn/depressing shots :p).

Pic 1: Nicely captured creepy atmosphere!
Pic 3: Color editing or not? Either way, I like it.
Panorama: I didn't even notice that the original version had some flaws, but the new version does indeed look even better. :)

I asked a friend of mine who has a photoshop (not the program but a real shop ;)) about the D50 and here's what he said:

- D50 + standard 17-55mm lens = about 700 euros (memory not included, as you already mentioned)

- 70-300mm telezoom lens = about 120 euros (a similar lens of the Nikkor ED-series (designed specifically for Nikon's digital SLRs) would be much more expensive)
This lens was designed for 35mm film cameras and that means that, on a digicam, it creates as much zoom as a 300 x 1,5 = 450mm lens on a 35mm camera would. And that is a LOT of zoom. :D

- The D50 is an excellent camera for starters. ;)

- Nikon D50 or Canon 350D ?: similar cameras, similar performance, similar price, but the Nikon has a better build quality.

Thanks again Craig. I don't know why I didn't post that photo before.

Mark, I did desature the first two photos a bit. And the background in the third one too.

Thanks for the facts. I've also heard that the 350D is bit too small for some people, so you can't get a good grip of it.

This one isn't as good as the first one because the tree is cut off. But you can see the cool frozen grass better.
