Not in the UK they dont... there were tickets available for the July 16 one for a while... but in Germany and finland they sell out on the first or 2nd day - in HUGE venues.

Yeah thats their boxing day show in helsinki - all 6000 tickets sold out on the first day. It's a pity they cant be that popular over here - but I like astoria... its a nice venue. overhot and full of crowdsurfers... but im 100% going to be in the front row this time. was about 3 people back in july.... and that was 2 1/2 hours in advance! I hope I get to meet them all this time. I only met Emppu last time - they all ran away. I got him to sign my copy of once and shook his hand which was cool.

I'm all excited now. Thanks for letting me know. I see its mentioned on the nightwish forums since the 18th... but I havent been on there for about a month because of university... and ticketmaster list the astoria gig now - which they didnt earlier cos i browsed the entire site.

26th is drawing nearer but i have noone to go with except my mum. yes my mum. she was in bed and she hates metal music and i said to her in bed 'do you like this?' for a joke and she said 'yeh' and i went 'never realised you was into metal' and she went 'some of its ok like this' and i said do you like opera and she said 'yeh' so shes coming and listening to nemo later and seeing if she'll like them and if she'd go and see em.

How long have I been waiting for nightwish to come?

And who do I have to go with?

And who is not allowed to go to concerts unless 2 other people go with her?

yeah, indeed. would be cool if i saw some of you guys there, if not then maybe the next ev concert. but i didn't meet anyone at wembley and still had a great time, so this concert should be good as well! what would make this perfect though is if some of us can meet up and also see the band after... :D hehe well whatever's good... hmm hope you manage to get away with that, eternal vow. would be nice if someone could record it!

I've looked on ticketmaster and it says age restrictions apply but they dont actually bother to mention exactly what age you have to be to get in. Does any one have any idea? I won't be a happy bunny anymore if you have to be over 16 or something to get in. Hopefully I should be ok cos with seether it was over 14.

Don't worry about the age limit thing. I don't knwo fo anyone who's ever been to any concert where they've actually enforced the age limits. It's always totally up to the venue if they want to turn people away at the door. Of course no venue ever does enforce the age limits because they want as many people in there spending money on cheap warm flat beer and tasteless hotdogs, and they get a certain cut of the profit made from the band merch too. Hell, first Ev concert I went to it clearly said over 16's only, the second said over 18's only, but hell I saw kids at both who can't have been more then 12 or 13 years old, and I got into the '18+ only' one no problems, they didn't even look at me funny, and I don't look 18 anyway.

Really, the age limit won't be a problem. It may as well not exist.

Anyway, I'd really like to go see Nightwish but none of the gigs are near me :( And the only one I could get to, the London one, is on a sucky day for me  Grr. I wish I'd seen this thread the second tickets were announced so I could have planned ahead... oh well, just have to miss out on it this time around :(

I have Once which I bought about 12 hours after you got me addicted to them (my wallat still hates you btw) I bought Oceanborn while we were in cardiff. Right now I cant decide between 1997 - 2004 (that collection they released) and just buying all the albums. Are the ones you get on '97-2004 the enhanced versions? Damn it Bless the Child is another one I want but dont have.

So the three evboarders (def.) going to this manchester gig are all welsh then, hey worship yourself, where in north wales are you? Im a gog by birth.

Hah say sorry to your wallet for me. But I did you a favour right? Nightwish rule!

I think it would be better to buy all the albums since you don't have them. It's nice to have all the cds there in their boxes waiting to be listened to *looks at them* hmmm.... Once should do now!

Yeah... musical hangovers are fun.
Firstly because whilst you're in the kind of hangover mode, you're also is 'wow that gig was awesome,' in awe mode and it lasts longer. (I think seether lasted at least a week)

Second, everyone asks about why you look like the living dead and you get to sleep or you get to tell a cool story and not do multiplication :p

And they just kick ass anyway. Sure getting sleep is good, but getting a little sleep and getting on with life afterwards is more fun. In a really random way.

Musical hangovers are far better than drinking hangovers... until they've lasted too long and you just want to sleep for a week.

just bought my ticket for the 19th feb at the astoria, i'm so excited. i was panicking abit cause the 19th is an added date and the web site kept coming up with an error message when i tried to book and the ticketmaster automated service kept coming up with the 12th (which is sold out) instead of the 19th so i thought they'd just made a mistake on the web site and i wouldn't be able to go, but all is well when i spoke to an operator so yeay soooooo happy about that one.

There is never any age restrictions at the Manc Academy for gigs... only when they host club nights like schooldisco.com or some shite like that. The venue is also one of the easiest places to get served for the u18's. It'll be different for Nightwish, but the crowd is often full of drunk kids.

Ice Queen
11-23-2004, 11:45 AM
*sigh*

And they're all 'townies'.

Anyway. I have a few really crap questions:

1. Is there a vast amount of moshing? (I wouldn't have thought so as most Nightwish fans are sane and will just go to have a great time listening to the music, not squashing small people...but just wanted to check)
2. What sort of thing will people wear? (I dont want to be the only one there in a beautiful black dress, but I dont want to be the only one in Jeans and a t-shirt)
3. What is the best time to start queueing? (The gig starts at 7)

Of course, I'm a hopeless gig n00b. I've only been to Ev and LostProphets...

I went to Ev looking like a chav. I mean, I wasn't. *shudder* But I was sitting there in evisu fucking shoes. (Which were £10 in the sale...making it slightly more acceptable XD) Jeans, and something that slightly resembled a corset.

I refuse to make that mistake again.

I doubt there will be a lot of moshing.
Doubtlessly there'll be a few guys in a pit but last time I was at nightwish, it was just a few older guys moshing like moshing should be... but they were quite large guys so most people were too scared to join in.

I don't think there'll be a problem. What you should watch out for however, is crowdsurfers. You don't want someone falling on your head if you're not prepared. Just keep yourself aware of your surroundings during the gig and you'll be fine.

eeek. typo hell.

And I've only been to Ev!

Am I right in remembering you're going to the same gig as me? I'll be wearing pretty much the same as what I saw Ev in- green cargo pants, a black vest top or tshirt, and black trainer type shoes and a jacket. So in no particular style...!

Lots of gigs in a small space of time....
I love that.

Well, that is until a few weeks after when you've been going to a gig a week for about 3 weeks and before that a gig a month and then it seems like ages.... and you start to get withdrawal symptoms.

The time tickets can take to arrive depend on both who you bought it from and the venue. Ticketmaster is fairly quick at getting the tickets out but only if the tickets have already been printed. Sometimes a first lot is printed for the first lot of orders but then other people for the same gig who ordered their tickets later might not get their tickets for another month.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets to 2-3 weeks before the gig and they haven't come. Then just get on the phone and hopefully you'll be able to find out what's going on.

lol. well, the back entrance is really cramped and won't fit a whole tour bus round there. i went to see Seether at the Mean Fiddler which is a few doors down from the Astoria but because i was there at stupid o clock i saw the band that was performing at the Astoria (Kasabian) arrive at 10am and watched them unload their bus, it killed some time lol, but i didn't know kasabian well enough to go and get auto's and stuff. it's funny cause when tour buses arrive there they kind of hold up the traffic lol.

i've downloaded loads of NW concerts recently and it's got me kind of excited and nervous. Excited because i love watching how NW interact with the fans esp Tarja and at the end they all hang around on stage for ages and do this big bow. It's got me nervou cause they like using explosions in their shows and i have a fear of them and fireworks lol.

i prefer once as well atm, but who knows, wishmaster might grow on me. i think it's a really good album, anyway. i've only listened to that and angels fall first in full so far. so it's a bit early to comment on them properly, 'cause they're still new to me, but i like once more atm. usually i find that i like new albums more than older ones to begin with, but in some cases they grow on me instead. i'm liking more of wishmaster the more i hear it!

I dont want to make a "top" list when it comes to Nightwish, because at the moment Im still discovering them and may find that my tastes change, or that a song I heard is better or not quite as good as I remebered thinking at the time. I could say atm though that "Dark Chest of Wonders", and "Over the hills and far away" are the top runners.

I remember Nightwish playing Ever Dream from Century Child too, and I'm not 100% certain but I think they played Dead to the World last time they played here. So they might be on the setlist again.

Saying that though, they can always change, but it's bound to be a good set.

I remember Nightwish playing Ever Dream from Century Child too, and I'm not 100% certain but I think they played Dead to the World last time they played here. So they might be on the setlist again.

i hope they perform ever dream, thats my fave NW song but i like all the songs really so whatever the set list it will be awesome.

yeah i don't think wishmaster is as good as once too but i love she is my sin from wm so i kinda hope they do that 1. Also i'm kind of impressed with the speed of the keyboard and guitar and the beginning of Wanderlust lol.

i love she is my sin and wanderlust too :D it'd be nice if one of those could make it on the setlist, i hope the kinslayer stays there too, etc. but basically, you're right. whatever they play will be good!

i've downloaded tons of NW concerts recently and they performed the kinslayer in all of them so you might be in luck. the kinslayer isn't my fave NW song but i love the atmosphere when they perform it live, it's electric.
i've been making loads of music video's on my computer recently and i made a really cool NW one to the song Ever Dream with loads of live footage and stuff. i'd really like to put it on the net to show you guys but i don't know how :( i made 1 to i wish i had an angel as well but it's not quite as good. i made a few Ev ones as well.

it isn't my fav song either, but i think it's a good one. most of my fav songs atm are actually on once (i love all the songs on that list i posted earlier), then wishmaster. although i don't have century child yet, i want to get it before the concert, so pretty soon actually.

hmm, if you send the file to me, i can upload it for you. i'm interested in seeing it, anyway. and where's sarineh when you need her? yesterday i saw someone on lj is selling two tickets to the gig on the 12th. not sure how you'd go about making sure they're legit but anyway, just saying.

Alesurya

I think the person who had them has already found someone to sell them to. I was going to try and tell sarineh last night but then I realised that someone had already said they'd buy them.

Century Child is a great Nightwish album. Everdream was my favourite song as soon as I heard it and you've got to hear Phantom of the Opera. I think that album flows really well, there's a kind of common subject throughout so each song has something slightly related to the next.

ah, ok. damn, i know sarineh really wanted to go, and it would've been cool for her to hang with us.

i've heard phantom of the opera, i think that's the only song from century child that i have (although i don't have the tracklisting in front of me, so..). i really like that song anyway, and over the hills and far away, and walking in the air is good... nightwish are good at covers imo, and their own songs aren't too bad either, hehehe.

Blitzkrieg

Ah right thanks, Ive heard of Live journal, I prefer the paper version personally though. He he Im a real noob, still dont know the linguo.

sussurus, you ever heard the original of phantom of the opera by Micheal Crawford and Elaine Paige (I think it was her) in the Andrew Lloyd Weber original, they got the vocal casting and the music perfect. I think in the Nightwish cover, while Tarja is good she isnt making full use of her voice, and Marco (Is it him singing?) isnt really up to that type of part. Its not his style. Like in the Iced Earth version, they got the music perfect but the vocals werent grandious enough for the atmosphere. If that makes sense. (Another minor gripe with the Nightwish song, the music seems kind of, light, not cavernous enough). Pay no attention to me.

susurrus
12-29-2004, 06:41 PM
erm, i think i've heard it before, but i don't really remember it. actually i know i've heard it before, several times in fact. i just don't remember it. i tried getting hold of the original but can't find it, so i can't compare it. i haven't heard it in the past few years.

yes it is marco btw, i'm pretty sure of that, and from what i remember, most fans seem to think the original male vocals couldn't be improved upon anyway. tarja is more suited to it apparently, but as i said i don't remember the original so as for myself i can't comment.

The film's absolute crap! I saw it about 2 weeks ago. I didn't really like the play, and the film was... ok it was 2.5 hours long and I swear, there was like 1 minute of dialogue and that was it. I was pretty annoyed. I mean I know it's a musical but for crying out loud! Every time they burst into song I was dying! I went to the toilet halfway through and when I came back they were still bloody singing! ARGH!!!!!!!!

I do like the Nightwish version though. Yup. Indeed, that song was the only good bit in the film.

I don't know if I'm booking a hotel at all. I mean, what's the point? Me and my friends will probably be going out in Manchester for a couple of hours after the gig and catch a late train or something to Bangor. And if that's not an option we'll just stay in a random travelodge. There'll be four of us so that'll be fine!

Alesurya

I guess it depends on where you're going but most of them tend to be in between 23.30 or 00.30.

You could try using the tfl journey planner because that can usually give you the times.

susurrus
12-31-2004, 12:04 PM
yeah, that's about right, ally. except to where i live, which is 20:30... bah. nightwish wouldn't even be on stage by then i should imagine.

the tfl site is good, but don't rely on it. it gave me a route that was longer than i needed to take. i found a shorter route by using another website for the essex area. check out sites for your local area and see if they have journey planners and/or time tables for trains and buses.

anyway, i could actually go back by that other train, but the next train was something like 4am... right o.O so i'm looking for somewhere to stay. i'm not waiting that long through the night to go home! wouldn't be home 'til 6am.

Okay, I don't think any of you will know this but just in case, does anyone know roughly how long the gigs will be going on for? 'Cause I'm going to the London gig on the 19th, it says the doors open at 6pm... basically I need to catch a train to get home, but the last train from London leaves at 11:30pm, and it's a 15-20 minute or so journy to get from the Astoria to the train station too... so like, if anyone knows roughly when the gig might end that'd be a big help because then I can decide whether to book train tickets back or to maybe just get a lift there and back if the gig doesn't stop until late...

Wicket619
01-11-2005, 06:57 AM
I'd guess they'd be on stage for about 2 hours. The train i have to catch also leaves at 23:30 but usually the headline band (Nightwish) will be on about 9 so if they have a 2 hour set which is about average probabaly by time got out and to station should still have a few minutes to spare

meeting the band before is easier cause there's not as many people and you can get them when they get off the bus. i'll wait after the show on the 19th as well but on the 12th i'm trying before the show. meeting Seether before the show (which was at a venue a few doors down for the astoria) was alot better than afterwards cause there was only a few people there and we all got group photo's with the band, but afterwards it was really hard cause there was literally hundreds of people and it was just really get an auto and photo, where as before the show there was a chance to chat to them.
The tour bus stops right outside because the back entrance is really tiny to both clubs, almost like an alley way and can just about fit a car down there.

Alesurya
01-13-2005, 01:13 PM
Kevin Martin and the Hiwatts pulled up all their gear in the alley because we saw them unloading it about 4.30 maybe.
I'm thinking of going up there fairly early because if we get really bored there's the virgin megastore which we can go haunt or something but it will depend on how we're feeling on the day. If it's cold then I might not go up there before 1.

I'm still not sure what time to get there on the 15th...and if we try to meet the band as they leave the tour bus we'll loose our place in the queue!

i shouldn't worry about that too much, if they arrive while you're in the queue i'm sure everyone will go over to see them, if your lucky they'll get there early and only a few fans will be there. and if you want to meet the band i suggest getting there for early afternoon like 2 or something. They'll probably arrive about 3.
