This band rocks.

Don't know how many times I have to tell you all.

This is like shameless spam hehe.

These links should work, but if not they can also be found on their site.

DAMN YOU!!! I was gonna start this thread! *sigh* oh well

The other day I bought their "Wishmaster" album. Best Buy actually ahd a copy of it, last one too *hehe*! Another $15 well spent.

Anyone going to the ProgPower USA Festival in Atlanta (September 5&6)? I hear Nightwish is headlining...I would go but tickets are already sold out. :(

Wheee-hoooooo! Nightwish rules! Yay! :D I really hope they tour in the US sometime soon. That would rock.

Oh damn. Didn't read what Der Fellfrosch said. Hehe. Well let me change that then. I hope they come to St.Louis!

Nightwish are superb......Century Child has hardly left my stereo since I bought it. My current favourite track is Ocean Soul....but I've read that this is often considered one of the weaker songs among fans. Shows what I know, I guess.

They are playing a one off date in London very soon.....shame I'm not gonna be able to get there.

They're only doing 2 performances in the U.S. The first is the Sold-Out ProgPower Festival in Atlanta Sept. 5, and the second is at the L'Amour in Brooklyn, New York, on Sept. 7. So if any of you live in the New York area or are lucky enough to score the tickets to the Atlanta show, GO SEE THEM!! You won't be dissapointed at all!

I'm a fan, though I only have gotten one CD so far.
"Bless The Child / Over The Hills And Far Away". It's a special edition.

I need to get more CD's, but first I need to get some money.

I heard about them back in the spring, when I introduced Evanescence on a danish messageboard. Someone mentioned they reminded him of Nightwish so I checked them.
It took some getting used to for me, but now I love them!

Well I listened to Nightwish, and I kinda like 'Away' but otyher than that I didn't like much. I did hear only a few songs tho, so maybe some Nighwish folks can tell here which song they like the most. I heard Getsemane is good, but I canny get it to download, anyone agree with that?

It all depends on your taste really. I listen to a bit of everything, and I like bands with female sorta Opera voices backed by a "rock" band. Those are kinda what Nightwish and Within Temptation are, in the simplest terms and most convienant definitions. But my favorite songs by Nightwish are Dead Boy's Poem, Bless the Child, and Angels Fall First. IF you like Phantom of the Opera, they did a cover for it, it roXors! I hope you like them!

Ooooooh. I love Nightwish with a burning passion. I'm constantly blown away by Tarja's vocal ability and how they're able to so successfully blend it with their power metal stylings. My brother actually got me into them, a few years ago with Over the Hills and Far Away, but my favorite songs by far have to be Dead Boy's Poem, Ever Dream, and Gethsemane. I actually have the DVD and find myself watching it quite often. I love how Tarja says certain words with her accent. Quite endearing! :)

oh... my... dear... god...

I finally find that I am not alone in my love of Nightwish. I got bought "Over the Hills and Far Away" for my birthday. Within a few days I had bought the other 4 albums.

Nightwish = Completely Addictive!

I have to say that each album has something completely different to offer than the others. Some of their best works being on the album "Wishmaster". Just my opinion there though.

I could sit and listen to Nightwish and never quite get bored ;)

As for the gig at the Mean Fiddler, I hope to get to that gig too if I ever remember to book tickets, and find some people to actually go with. Should be a memorable night ;)

Love how I had the thought... "It seems like I only go to threads in this forum of bands I've HEARD of, why don't I take a chance with something completely different"

THUS... I hit this thread, having NO clue what to expect. I saw the mention of a female "opera" type voice with more of a rock backing to it... and I became more intrigued. Downloaded a clip of "Dead Boy's Poem", and I liked it quite a lot. I'll see if I can find a few full songs, give those a listen, and then ATTEMPT to hunt down a CD if at all possible.

What a great thing this board is.

ETA... a little bit later, I'm about halfway through downloading "Ever Dream" (damn dialup)... and I listened to the first half and I'm thinking... "No way... I am NOT getting serious chills from how extremely insanely awesome this is." Is there such thing as love at first listen? I've found something that somehow fits my taste PERFECTLY. It's a scary, scary thing.

This is why I must thank Evanescence
It is opening the scene to those metal bands already known around the metal scene but never heard of by so many

Nightwish rocks hard, it introduced me to metal a lot, I´ve seen their great great DVD (an almost alternative band with a DVD - they make success over Finland - their homeland - and Germany), and actually I think they´re the best band ever (am I allowed to say it in such forum?)

To apologize, Evanescence is the best I ever seen on MTV Brazil more than twice (because I seen Nightwish clip Bless the Child twice here, 1:30 a.m. both). Evanescence is also the best US band ever.

Geez! I go away from the board for a few days and look what I find! One of my favorite bands being discussed! Yeah, nightwish is totally awesome and they have outstanding production on their albums! I am seeing them twice this year! Once in NyC and in Montreal. I have been waiting a very long time for them to come over to North America for a tour but at least they're playing a few shows in my "area".

Nightwish rock indeed. I didn't know they had so many fans outside Europe, but its great to see. I love their stuff, and they were the ones that introduced me to more heavy stuff than just soft r&b and pop. I don't think century Child is as good as their other albums tho..

Well, I downloaded (so far), Dead Boy's Poem and Walking In The Air.

I enjoy it very much and can't wait to download some more. I finally found the lyrics for Dead Boy's Poem because I couldn't understand what the little boy was saying and upon reading it I was like- Wow, that's hot!!!- It's got a fantasy kinda sound to them and that's why I like them so much. Heh heh. Can't wait to listen to some more of their stuff. :D

yeah.. in Finland, I don't think they have sold that much in other countries. I don't really know. I just happened to be on the site of their record company and saw it.

And that concert )I mentioned earlier that i had missed.. I saw an article on it in a mag called Scream mag.. Don't know of anyone ever heard of that. Anyways I found out that this was their first show ever in Norway, and that they were signing cds in a store on the day before, where not to many showed up, well many compared to other small bands. So I could have met them also. And after what I have heard that was a hell of an concert :(

Isn't saying Century Child isn't all that great kinda like saying Lateralus isn't all that great? *I don't actually hold that opinion, I'm just using it for the analogy*... just like even a somewhat lesser Tool CD is better than pretty much anything else, the same seems to apply with Nightwish.

Colin

Holy crap. I didn't realize *until I had it confirmed on Kazaa, after initially reading it here* that "Beauty AND the Beast" and "Beauty OF the Beast" are two different songs.

I really love "Beauty Of The Beast" (as in the one that's on Century Child). Absolutely amazing stuff. Funny how I buy more CDs, and STILL try to hunt for more songs to download... which will likely lead to more CDs (although I'm not sure how many more I'll be able to FIND).

I can't say I've fallen in love with a band so quickly since... well... Evanescence.

Just got Wishmaster yesterday as that was the only one I've been able to find (and Best Buy only had one copy of it) I'm really enjoying it so far. Now for what I'm sure is a very typical n00b question, why don't they tour the US? Have they in the past at all? I know they did a festival in Atlanta last spring or something like that, and there's that show coming up in Brooklyn, but other than that, nothing. Is this some sort of genius marketing scam so when they eventually tour the US everyone will want to see them so badly they'll sell out the entire tour and it'll be all kinds of successfull?

I think though am not sure at all, that it has something to do with them not having a big enough fanbase here. If they did a US tour right now, a lot of people would be like "who the fuck's Nightwish?" and not give it another thought.

Go out and spread the good word! :)

Avoiding the US isn't exactly the way to get known here. I don't see why they can't set up a tour with a more well known band like Lacuna Coil has been doing.

I think they didn´t tour around US because they weren´t very known around there, they rathered to go to Latin America, Europe and some few places
I don´t think they toured Japan, but don´t know

It just made me remember when Angra did a tour around US... 12 people crowd in North Carolina kkkkkkkk
I don´t think they´ll tour there soon...

And about Nightwish, after this Evanescence rising, they´ll probably do some 7 or 8 shows around US next year

Ingrid
08-31-2003, 01:12 PM
I dont really think that ev becoming famous helps Nightwish in the US.. they isnt really comparable in other ways that its a female singer.. and even that cant compare that much.. since Tarja is a opera singer and amy is... well Amy..

Kstar__2
08-31-2003, 01:30 PM
i think it does really, the music is the same in alot of ways, and because music like evanescence is in the spotlight (a bit anyway) people search for different band with the same kind of music too.

Colin
08-31-2003, 02:38 PM
I wouldn't have EVER heard of this band if it wasn't for Evanescence... same thing with Lacuna Coil... and I'm sure the same thing applies to a lot of people in North America.

Luna
08-31-2003, 04:59 PM
You all have a point when you say that you would have never found the band if it was not for Ev.

But that only works for this board.

Other Ev fans are not going to find out about Nightwish just by looking for Ev stuff online. And if they do, it will only be a small number of people.

So saying that the the recent growth in Ev popularity will help Nightwish is kind of flawed. They might gain another hundred or so fans, but it wont be anything big.

And you can tell your friends, and they can tell their friends.
But it just comes down to what the people with the power want to play on the radio.

abearatemyparents
09-01-2003, 12:23 AM
I don't think Nightwish has much of a shot for US radio, but just because I band isn't on the radio doesn't mean they can't be successfull. I still think the easiest would be for them to just tour with someone that would draw bigger crowds, at the very least more people would recognize the name.

But just considering this forum, their number of US fans will grow considerably, since if they had 10k fans around there before Evanescence I´d be surprised

It helps, not a lot, but it helps. Slowly but ever, it´ll become famous. And also, people with the money will soon search for and Evish band, if not searching already, and maybe... who knows?

The negative point about them and LC is that they are not american, and americans like american people more than anything else, almost like a... forget it

Nightwish starts practising their forth-coming album. Band will lock themselves at the studio where they'll spend about a month practising and arranging the songs for the new album. They've planned of getting 13 new songs and 1 cover ready to be recorded in Finnvox and Caverock studios. There will be studio-diary released from the studio-session on this site.

I heard something about the From Wishes DVD will no longer be printed soon, so don't wait too long to pick a copy up. Not sure how accurate this is, though. And unless you have a decent local store that has a lot of metal, I doubt you'd find it in a store. Possibly they'd special order it for you if you asked. But there are lots of online and mail order places that are selling it for a decent price if you just do a search.

As I've said a few times, I have no problem admitting I'm totally in love with Tarja. Hell, the entire band is pretty good looking. But Tarja is my lj background, computer background, and half of my icons. Plus I've barely listened to anything aside from Nightwish since Sept. But then again, having over 80 songs makes it nearly impossible for them to get old. Just can't wait till the new album comes out and a possible US tour. I'm so roadtripping when that happens.

Thanks for the help with the videos everyone. I think I am going to buy a DVD with the videos on it just so I have it.

I would recommend Century Child or Wishmaster. Both are good to start out with.

I love Nightwish. I'm a big fan. I have all their albums and their dvd. My fave albums are Oceanborn and Wishmaster. I saw them last year in Barcelona and it was my fave concert. They were great.

Anyone of you have their new dvd? It's so amazing:
Live songs from a Norway concert and from Summer Breeze Festival + videos + photos + interview + documentary

They're well known outside of the US and have a fairly strong, very dedicated following in the US. They play stadium type concerts around Europe.

ChronoSkywalker

Stadium-type?
not that big... yet

there are many good unknown bands around the world, but yet we have to stand "artists" like Eminem

and, for starters, Oceanborn or Wishmaster. The one I most like is Angels Fall First but Oceanborn and Wishmaster shows more exactly why they are known

I wonder how many pages are needed to move this topic to normal off-topic, this Indie/Small band title is beginning to be unproper, 13-pages long topic isn´t for any band (even if many replies are from the same persons)

The best way to get there stuff is either online like at amazon or through a smaller store that does mail orders. There's some awesome places in Philly that regularly stock artists like Nightwish. Argh. I could have spent so much money there.

And on my favourite song..... Well.. there is no single one. Beauty of the Beast, Beauty and the Beast, Ocean Soul, Dead Boy's Poem, Gethsemane, FantasMic, Sleepwalker, She Is My Sin, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Come Cover Me, Two for Tragedy.

Colin

That's much like myself... I don't really have 1 or 2 songs that really stand out to me as faves, just a whole bunch of them that I think are all great.

I got mine at A&B Sound... which I *think* is only in Western Canada. They've got a very good selection of stuff, considering that they sell all sorts of stuff like car audio, TVs, etc. I've yet to see any other store around here that has their CDs.

I ADORE Nightwish!! I love how dramatic they are, yet how mellow they can be. Have your heard their version of "Walking in the air"? I suggest EVERYONE downloads it hehe! It's great. My favourite song is Bless The Child. I heard of them from my friend Scott and the first time I heard them I thought they were powerful but kind of... too much, if you know what I mean, but next time I heard them I really appreciated them and grew to LOVE them! Anyway yeah... they rule... hehe.

Aww... that's so sweet! :D I actually had my username before Angel Sanctuary was around, but when I first discovered it in '96, it fit me like a glove. I have a few rare AS books. I unforunately only discovered Nightwish early this year... but I've done my best to catch up! I have all of their albums and two t-shirts. I'm probably one of the few people in Australia who wears them. :)

i really think nightwish can be great, if they can decide where they want to go with their music and if the vocals can try to blend her style of singing with their music. at this moment it sounds like they have a lot of good instruments(including The Voice) and good ideas for songs, but don't know what to do with them. they need to stop stereo typing themselves. there's a hundred diffrent bands trying to do the same thing, but non have really suceeded so far. if you want to talk about a female who rocks, talk about angela gossow of arch enemy! (check out anthems of rebellion)

Eternal Jester
11-20-2003, 08:33 PM
Otep is a lot more impressive than Arch Enemy, though. Burning Angel is Arch Enemy's only really decent song... the other stuff is just fast paced and kinda boring.

But that's just your opinion. I think what they do is beautiful and it's refreshing from a lot of the crap metal out there. Not everything metal has to involve screaming. And that's the trend, today. Nightwish is doing the music they want to do and not conforming to what people what to hear. Sure they may not be millionaires, but if they're happy, that's all that truely matters.

I dunno, I have to listen to Otep in moderation, otherwise it just gets on my nerves.... :? I do still like 'em though.

Arch Enemy I prefer, more so with Llivia, but Angela still rocks.

And to stay somewhat on topic, Nightwish rulezorz, but I think I've said that more than a few(hundred) times. :D

I heard about Nightwish, and downloaded my first song "Nightquest". It's one of those bands that grow on you, because you're probably not too acustomed to the soprano opera voice. I didn't like them much at first, but I gave them a few more chances, and they definately grew on me, and realized they are a fantastic band. I only own 2 of their albums, and I plan on getting more when I can get ahold of them.

Favorites:
Nightquest
Over the Hills and Far Away
The Kinslayer
Slaying the Dreamer
The Phantom of the Opera
Dead Boy's Poem
Wanderlust
Deep Blue Sea
Moondance
Gothic Sanctuary

i'm not saying they are a really bad band, what they are doing is really refreshing. i only think that sometimes it sounds like the vocals is in one room singing a tune, and the band is in another room playing something completely different. it just doesn't blend. i think that in a few years, when they gain more experience,i might become a bigger fan of them.
