A couple of months back, we started something called the Evboard Welcome Committee as a result of many newer posters getting banned for not being clear as to what the rules of this board were.
I want lurkers, noobies, and everybody who's already introduced themselves over the past couple of months to give the Evboard committee your feedback as to how we're handling your concerns.
1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
I'll add questions as I go.
I just want to get a general idea from the newer posters as to how we have helped if at all.
My general view is that if there are still that many locked threads in EvChat, then we may not have done what we've wanted to accomplish.
Then again, I feel that we have gone to everybody who's needed help and has answered the call of duty.
This is an open post for the new posters. Post what you think. Don't PM the answers, because this is for about 10 different people.

The almost complete lack of anything resembling a response from the n00bs of the board should speak volumes in itself, Cf...
They can't even be bothered to read threads SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THEM...
wow. I managed to edit myself... Yay me.
I give it 48 hours for things to change dramatically. If they don't, I shall resign from the welcoming committee... It's like bailing out the Titanic with a thimble...

I joined a couple of months ago and I don't recollect any welcoming committee. I remember someone mentioning that the welcoming committee should be talking to me soon, but they never did that I can recall. I'm not mad about it. I have a friend who's been a member for a while and she showed me the ropes. As far as I can tell I'm following rules. I don't know whether the other n00bs had the same response I did. I did feel welcomed by everyone, but I was and still am a tad fuzzy on things. I'm learning as I go and I PM others to ask questions. I hope that my respponse isn't taken the wrong way. I know everyone on here has a million things to do, so I completely understand if they missed one n00b. ;) No hard feelings to anyone on the committee. I don't really have any suggestions at the moment. I think n00bs should take advantage of these stickies that are afterall made for their benefit. I hope my input helps you a little. Sorry it couldn't have been more insightful.

Disreguard me not seeing anyone... I am a retard! I did have a committe member welcome me. DUH! Sorry for the ignorance! I do appreciate it guys!

My guide hasn't PMed me or posted on my thread, so I haven't PMed him. I've only PMed one person, and that was in response to a locked thread that I wanted to respond to. It was nice to get a welcoming post from a member of the committee, and I don't think it really needs to be changed much. I just learned things on my own, since this is the first board I've joined. That was the best way for me.
Thanks for the questions, I don't know if I helped much.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
yes
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
I haven't had any other concerns, none
3. If you have, how often do you PM? n/a
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
the team is very nice to me, and all the new members. they get personal. :D
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Not really, you do enough, and if they don't get it still, they are n00bs for life :p

lol:D
i don't know if i'm still classified as a n00b but i just wanted to say i agree with Head. the newer n00bs just don't seem as serious about contributing to the board as me, mallory, and other FAIRLY new members when we joined. i read through EVERYTHING!! i read through the faq's, lly's general rules post, cfw's addendum to lly's post, announcements. i read EVERYTHING!! i just don't see what's the point if nobody's gonna take this committee seriously. they're here to help people!!! this was created to help n00bs...use it to your advantage people.
that's all:rolleyes:!

I am a total n00b, a week old. I don't know if anyone really "introduced" themselves to me, but hey, I wasn't expecting it... have some friends/family on this board, and have just been asking them and playing around to learn things. All in all, I think it is set up very well and I, for one, am a happy camper and thank you for all of your effort and work that goes into maintaining this site! :D

I got a PM from buffyfan almost the same day my Introduction post showed up on the board. I can't remember exactly how many PMs we sent back and forth to eachother but it was enough that most of my general questions about the band and the board in general was answered and I have yet to run into problems on the board. I was happy with the welcome I got from everybody, not just the designated people but everyone which is cool. Thus far my experience here has been a positive one and I'm enjoying this board very much. The only thing is that there's so many topics that are in excess of 20, 30, 40, 50 pages and more and I don't have the time go through each and every one of them and add my two cents and I don't want to just post because I don't want to sound like a parrot repeating what somebody else has already said. I think that's the only piece of discouragement I've run into so far but it's not really that big of a deal. If there's something that I really want to talk about I can usually manage to squeeze myself into it, I've got quite a bit of MB experience under my belt already. Thanks for the organized environment you guys provide here.

Hey!! When I introduced myself I was told that Head was my guide....he never PMed me! *glares at head* but its all good.I would have PMed him, but I didn't want him to think I was some random weirdo PMing him. I like the fact that there is a committee to help all us noobies, that way we don't make stupid threads and annoy the non-noobs of evboard. What I don't like is that I wasn't aware of the committee until I was told I had a guide, which was a while after I registered on here. More should be done in educating the new users. The noobs should get some type of automatic PM telling them about the committee and who their guide is and that they can PM that person with questions, problems, etc.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Nope. WhisperedVoices was assigned to me but I never heard anything.
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
No, I did my part and read over the FAQ and rules. Seemed pretty straightforward.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
n/a
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
Haven't had much interaction with them as committee members, just as other people posting so far.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Well, being a literate adult I guess its difficult for me to grasp how some people fail to read the rules posts, especially those who claimed to have been lurkers for some time before posting. So I think that just posting your introduction in the right spot is probably a big step in the right direction already. :p
So far I've pretty much avoided a lot of the Ev boards. The attitude that "its all been discussed before" is pretty pervasive here, and as a new fan I know I don't have much "new" to add. I just think that some of the older members forget that its still new to some of us. So even if the search function reveals the 456 page post that was made a year ago, you're left with the choice of being a post necromancer, making a new thread and risking getting flamed/locked/banned, or opting out of the discussion entirely. The last option kinda defeats the purpose of a fan forum though, doesn't it?
I can understand wanting to limit the number of questions, and generic "Amy is hot"/"Evanescence changed my life" posts, but I've seen some topics that seemed interesting get flamed and locked because some of the older members finished talking about it a month ago or whatever. That aspect is a bit intimidating and disheartening.
I guess I figured things out well enough though. I had 3 of those little green dots and enough rep points to buy a new title by the end of 10 days on the board. :p

It doesn't appear because you don't have a high enough reputation yet. You have to get a certain amount of reputation before you get a signature. I'm sure you'll get enough in no time, but for now you'll have to wait.
When you get enough points, you can do other things like changing your custom title.
Just remember not to postwhore because the mods won't like it. Welcome to the board and don't be afraid.

You have a point, but you also have to consider the members who have been here for a while. It is much easier for a new person to just do some research by browsing the old threads than it is to rehash the whole conversation/question/debate over again. 99.962743 % of the questions that could be asked have already been asked, and 111.329641 % of the possible answers have already been given. It just takes a little bit of reading, but I do understand how it might seem intimidating to a new person. Then again, you wouldn't walk into a business meeting on your first day on the job and start asking a bunch of questions that you were given the answers to before you applied. :p :) :D

someone once suggested a "n00b forum" and i think this would be a good idea. the n00bs could go there to discuss the things that the older members have already discussed.and to avoid post whoring we could always limit the amount of times they could post in one day or something like that. it might solve the problem about n00bs posting threads about things that have already been discussed(in the other forums, not the "n00b forum")

Think of EvBoard like High School.
If you're "the new kid" at first no one really pays attention to you, but after a while, you start to make friends and before you know it, you're having a great time (with your friends at least, no so much the actually learning part of school...unless you like that part too..) Anyway, I just went totally off in another direction. *gets back on track*
Yeah, at the beginning you're gonna feel ignored & stupid. Hell, when I first posted and no one responded to me, I totally felt invisible. But eventually you just kinda fall in to the community.
You guys suck. I got a "baptism by fire" when I joined. There was no welcoming committee. :p :p :p :p :p
Same for me. We had to fend for ourselves. I really wish I had had the Welcoming Committee when I first joined to. When you're new, the mods tend to intimidate some people, so to actually know some of my "peers" that I could pm if I had any questions would have been great. Also, all the tips & suggestions that people have given are really helpful.
It just takes a little bit of reading, but I do understand how it might seem intimidating to a new person. Then again, you wouldn't walk into a business meeting on your first day on the job and start asking a bunch of questions that you were given the answers to before you applied. :p :) :D
For me this was the thing that helped me the most. When I joined last July, I spent a good few weeks just reading all the older topics. I learned a lot that way. From that I also learned a little more about people and how things work in general.
The two things to remember: Search & Read ALOT :)
The thing I miss the most though was not knowing who that band members were and figuring it out for yourself. It took me a little bit of searching, but when I finally got them all, I was soo proud of me. Now it's so easy. They couldn't stand out any more then if their user names were actually just their names (like on the old boards)

i know what your getting at. i dont see why a lot of the n00bs dont read whats been posted either, but i was just saying, if there was a n00b forum, the older members wouldnt have to deal with the same questions over and over again. its kind of pointless to be discussing this though, because there isnt a way we can force anyone to read anything.

I was PMed by Head shortly after I made my introduction. I thought it was a very good idea and asked him a question I'd been sitting on that I wasn't sure who to ask. I've asked him a few questions and he's been quick to answer and very helpful.
Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
I think as far as general message board etiquitte and posting features, this board seems to cover those pretty well (but my opinion could be biased since I'm not new to message boards in general), but when it comes to board announcements and news, it doesn't seem to me that most people would become aware of them. I think that's what the important information forum is there for and it's sort of a responsibility on the board to check it regularly (or when you think something is wrong), but when I noticed something was wrong (I tried to edit my signature and couldn't), it took me a while to figure out what had happened. The post that explained it was sort of buried in an older post about moderation requirements, so naturally I expected a new thread about it, not a note on the 14th (or whichever) page of an old thread. I think the mass IM feature is the most effective way of keeping members up to date, but I understand the need for space conservation on this board and the announcements forum is an obvious alternative. but I almost think changes like this should be mentioned on the front page, or there should be something that shows that there are, say, x unread announcements in the important info forum (this might be a difficult task but it's just an idea). I think it wouldn't hurt to be a little more serious with the announcements and just cut to the chase (the post about the IQ test comes to mind). Making new threads as soon as news happens and putting a date on the thread title would also be super helpful. I don't mean to be rude about this at all, I mean I haven't had any problems and I make sure to read as many pages of a thread as I can possibly stand to find out what's going on, but those are just my two cents about making things easier on newer members.
edit: you know, when I made this post I completely forgot about the news and announcements forum (I knew I'd eff up this post somehow). so twist this around and somehow make it apply to both important information and news and announcements. and I'll rephrase by saying the moderation thing should've gone in the news forum. oh I don't know, this was such a long winded post and I felt like an idiot writing it and I feel like an idiot now...
The only thing is that there's so many topics that are in excess of 20, 30, 40, 50 pages and more and I don't have the time go through each and every one of them and add my two cents and I don't want to just post because I don't want to sound like a parrot repeating what somebody else has already said. I agree, but really it just either makes what you have to say all the more important if it hasn't been said before, or makes you feel special if you've gotten to a thread before it hits that point. I imagine this cuts down the nonsense level quite a bit (well, that and the post moderation). but yeah, it's much easier to lurk on this board than to be an avid poster.

I did post in the 'introduce yourself' forum and I had many replies, but never a member of the welcome committee(post or pm). While this doesn't offend me b/c I now know how busy all of you are and I read in a lot of other forums to get my info when I didn't know anything. Now I am unmoderated and have helped some other "noobs", as they are called. I know you guys do a lot to keep the site running, you really do help the newer members when you give them answer to the repetative questions. Thank you.;)

someone once suggested a "n00b forum" and i think this would be a good idea. the n00bs could go there to discuss the things that the older members have already discussed.and to avoid post whoring we could always limit the amount of times they could post in one day or something like that. it might solve the problem about n00bs posting threads about things that have already been discussed(in the other forums, not the "n00b forum")
"n00b forum" ... mmmmmmmm ... it's already active ... "Banned Users". They usually meet outside the board, ever, and forever. Listen, you should learn how to move, how to search, how to post and have fun, nothing else.
A-L-L threads where people discussed their 'n00b' status in the past:
1. They were stupid!
2. Someone banned becase broke the rules and was bashing mods.
3. It's a corner of frustrated psycho-dorks.
4. And threads were obviosly locked.
Period.

I'll say. We were supposed to have someone welcome us? I wasn't welcomed... I just sort of wandered around and posted a few things... and went, "I hope I'm not breaking any rules", until I found the forum with the rules and such in it.

You would have been welcomed if you had actually told anyone you were here!
For the benefit of all - Make a thread in the "Introduce Yourself" forum when you first sign on. That's the forum we use to introduce ourselves... hence the name. (It's not rocket science, is it? :p )
It's not only polite to do this, it's also the only way we poor mortals will know of your arrival. We can't greet you if we don't know you're around.

Well, EvBoard is a lot more strict than other forums, which is why I lurked and just read for a few months before signing up a few days ago. But everyone here seems nice enough and its great to talk about something we all love. As long as you don't act like an asshole and disregard all the rules (and not bother to read them!) I seem to be able to survive.

I was PM'd by a welcoming committee member almost as soon as I joined up. I never PM'd them - but that was simply because I had hung around in here for a while before joining up - just reading posts etc and I soon figured out the rules for myself. The committee is good in the fact that it makes us n00bs feel welcome and included - I've found that some boards can become like a little clan and get all cliquey and it's really hard to break through the ranks. This is what the welcoming committee helps us to do. :)
As for educating new posters - I think it's up to them to read the rules etc and ask questions of the welcoming committee, mods or older members on the board.
Hope this was helpful. :)

i only regiestered (sp?) a few weeks ago and my guide head pm'd me.
which i thought was very nice , thank you Head. :D
He pm'd me just after Buffyfan (also very helpful) had said who was my guide .
and told me to go look in my mailbox , which i probably would not have done.
i pm'd him back.
alot of people replied to my "hello" post .
I was given links and stuff , from the stickies on this board . Which helped me alot.
took me a little time to get used to the boards , but i have to say these are the best boards on the internet.

No, everything is pretty clear. Read the stickies and you'll be fine. When having specific questions you can PM a mod or more experienced boarder.
Edit: My guide has just PM'd me, she was on holiday so that's the reason.
She helped me a million and was very, very kind. Thank you!

I think I've been here about 3 weeks so far. Sad thing is that the only two mods I recognize as having greeted me so far are E-Unit and BuffyFan who gave me the "read this" material.
I've had no problems so far with anybody here (at least that I know of.) Everybody so far has been nice.
To introduce myself to the crew running this board.
As noted in my introduction I've been a bodyguard in the entertainment business for 14 years now (spent 2 years in semi-retirement.) I've just been asked to do security for a newly signed Sacramento band so I may disappear from time to time. I'm not going to do any name dropping but I do have friends in the business. I am also training for a demonstration at the 2005 MACS (Martial Arts Collective Society) Gathering in Las Vegas Nevada. Much of my time is taken up by training.
I am a moderator on another Message Board (name witheld out of respect.) so I won't get that much time here. I know there is a problem with noobs who don't look first before the post up new topics. I tend to be a bit scattergunned in my topics meaning that I tend to hit several subjects rather than just one. That has left me a bit confused as to whether or not or where to put up a new topic. Rather than piss anyone off I stick to just answering already posted material.
I will try to treat all with respect and I hope to get the same in turn. On reputation I don't feel I've distinguished myself enough to give out good or bad reactions to people. I hope nobody has taken offense to me not yet giving out reputation. I've gotten some which was a surprise. I figure I'll read the reputation rules a few hundred times then maybe I'll understand it.
Best wishes and Happy New Year to all.
Jeff

No questions, so I have not PMed my Welcome Guide yet.

This board is good, and I like the idea about a welcome guide, as it also works to connect people.
Now.. as for feedback... I find it quite funny that most of my welcome-messages in my introduction thread seems to be asking me to read the FAQ. How many times do I have to read it?
As in any forum, commone sense gets you a long way.

You would think so, but you'd be surprised as to how many people don't take the time to look the FAQ's over and ask or do things that could have been found if they had just taken the time.

Being a Welcoming Guide, I'll tell you that we wouldn't constantly repeat that if it wasn't necessary. ;)
You'd be surprised at how many people STILL don't read the FAQ's after we remind them so often.

Yeah; Dora's right. The FAQ is long, yes....but it is divided into sections for your benefit ;) The entire FAQ was revamped awhile ago, and it's so much more informative now...
Let's just say this: The people who complain about the mods, get locked threads, and get banned are usually the people who never bothered to read the FAQ.
You only have to read it once, I promise ;)
I'd just like to add my two cents to this thread...
I'm a Welcoming Committee member, and I'd love it if people would post in this thread more. Or just PM us guides with feedback. Some of us are newer at this guiding thing, and we'd like to know how we're doing :)

I agree as well. This thread isn't posted in very often. Every once in awhile someone will post in it, there will be a few replys, and then it dies down again.
Also being a Welcoming Committee Member, I know I'd appreciate it if more n00bs posted here. I would love it, and I'm sure my other Committee members would as well, if we got lots of feedback. We've just reworked the WC, and hopefully you'll find it's been improved. We've made a few changes, talked amongst ourselves, etc. We'd be thrilled to know how you n00bs, the ones most affected by the new processes, are feeling about it.

5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how? I dont think anything else can be done...if people read the FAQs, then they're all set. The intimidating thing is randomly jumping into threads and trying to post.

2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee? I PMed a member just to ask how many posts ya need until you're off the moderating queue. But i's happy with the reply, as i's jus curious.
3. If you have, how often do you PM? Um, jus twice so far.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all? I don't hav huge opinion, jus that the Committee is doing a very good job with the Ev board.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how? Em, not really. As this is a free-opinion forum, but where evryone has one thing for defo in common, Evanescence, i think the educating should be up to repliers and postees.

Hi,
Thought as a noob I'd better let you know I think there's a lot of really helpful stuff (eg FAQs etc) which let you know the rules and guidelines. Yep, my welcome comittee guide has contacted me ant given me some great advice and pointed me in the direction of some really useful stuff. What I'm about to say is not schmoozy b***shit, truly it's great that there is valuable advice and points of contact here, makes joining the board a darn sight less intimidating.
Thanks

I have to agree with templar exile and say that there really is a lot of helpful things on this site, and my initial thoughts are that it seems a very friendly place. I have been welcomed by my welcome committee member who was very helpful and friendly, but i haven't really used the PM system yet. I like the idea of a welcome committee, it makes the site look a lot more professional. However i haven't been around here long enough to find anything that I dislike about the welcome committee.
I'll post again if my opinion changes on anything.

Well... I've never been PMed by a welcoming committee, but I have been welcomed on my thread xD But it's quite alright, because I'm used to these types of forums. I think the only thing that confused me when I joined was my absence of a signature, but I reread the FAQ and found my question answered.
I do think a welcoming committee is a good idea, not only for the help and guidance through the technical part of the forum, but also to help us n00bs get acquainted with the users here. It's not a lot of fun if you don't know anyone on a forum, after all xD So... I think you guys should keep up the good work! *Applauds*

I agree! Good job! I really like all the FAQ's.......very helpful, and nice to see the rules written out. I come from a forum where all the rules are not written and you either figure them out, or your post just gets deleted. No fun. The welcome committee is nice too! I like it that they tell you a little about the board and all.:D

As Kaydee mentioned, new members only receive a Welcoming Committee Guide if they post in the Introduce Yourself forum.
So many members join but never post, so it's just easier for us to only initiate the ones who continue posting. Unfortunately, the only way we can really tell that is if they post in the intro forum. It's inconvenient for a few, but works for the majority. :)

Having FAQs and other threads like this is a good opportunity for new members to understand what goes on around EVboard. Trust me, everytime I'm at the JC message forums, the noobs don't even bother to read the rules and FAQs before posting a thread (whether theres already a thread on a particular topic). I've been a member there since nov 2000 and I am glad to be a member here on EVboard. :) So im used to being a n00b :p Evanescence rocks!! \m/ :D \m/

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post? Yes. But by my own fault only one person did.
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee? I PM'd Miles D once with a question about threads/posts etc.
3. If you have, how often do you PM? Once
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all? I think they are very nice, and I think its a very positive attribute to the board. It makes teh noobs feel special ;)
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how? Im pretty sure if the Noobs just read the FAQ's they would know everything they need to know. Plus the welcome commitee makes it very clear if you have any questions to PM them. So no...I've been very happy :)

I've been a member for a few months now, and I think this is only my 2nd post. I've been kinda scared, because from what I've seen, its really easy to post the wrong things in the wrong places!
I've not actually had a member of the 'welcoming committee' PM me. I didn't know such a thing existed.
*looks around nervously*
Hope I didn't say anything wrong....
Cfw828
02-12-2006, 03:50 PM
That kind of nervousness is something we like to get rid of.
As a moderator, I feel it necessary to say, I don't care what you post and generally I don't care where as long as it follows the rules, which are while kind of lengthy, very easy to follow.
I get upset because there are so many people that jump on the board and don't follow anything that is mentioned in the FAQ.
If there's a question that you have, it's generally very easy to search for an answer. I'd say about 8-10 if you do the search corrrectly.
Let's just say that you're looking for info on a band whose name is less than four letters. You may know the name of an album or a song by that artist, or if you know the name of the lead singer or drummer, you can find the answer. They'll give you a list of other threads in a certain forum by time of last post and all you have to do is search through that to find what you're looking for.
If you want to post something, you're more than allowed, just make sure that if there's something that hasn't been posted in in a long time that there's new info on a thread that relates to it.
Katya
02-12-2006, 04:34 PM
Hey, Illustr8iv, I don't remember you posting an Introduction thread...see, we WC members can't know about every person who joins the board, so the way we work is by using the Introduction threads to assign people and guide them. So if you didn't, it would be a good idea to do so, if only to let us get to know you a bit. If you did...well then I'm sorry about the oversight. Usually, we're pretty good at getting everyone but there's always the possibility that we'll miss one. :X
I will take you on and guide you, if you like :)

2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
<b>Uhhh, I only pm’ed Katya once to ask about all the different colored usernames. I didn’t really wanna bother anyone by excessively pm’ing, so I just searched for threads that might have had answers to my questions.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?</b>
<b>Once</b>
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
<b>It’d be cool if there were more of them. They seem really friendly and helpful. i wanna be just like them when i grow up. (:</b>
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
<b>No, the faq will usually answer most of the newer posters’ questions, and if not, the committee will be around to help. :) you guys are doing a pretty good job.</b>

It's nice having a welcoming commitee, even though it can take a while for them to get round to you. It's also nice to have it all in one place (the rules etc.) although I had found & read most of them already, there were thing's I'd missed, so that was nice. I haven't PM'd my welcome buddy yet, but will do as soon as I've written this :)
I'm assuming that as my posts are all being moderated before they go up anyway that none of them have been too terrible, although the 'creepiness' thing mentioned in some of the rules, I'm finding difficulty avoiding, because of the stuff I've been through in my life, so if any of my comments are a bit creepy just tell me & I'll take them out / change them. I'm assuming that anything I suspect *may* be accidentally creepy I can run past one of you guys?
As it can take a while for the welcoming commitee to get to you, it might be cool having Everything a member must know in one place right at the begining, that comes as a link in the e-mail sent to verify your membership???
Thanks guys :)

hmmm Im gonna go about this by using my bad memory
I have not talked to the committee in any way, shape or form
I dont have any opinions on them cause well whats there to really say, unless they were being total jerks
Im getting along just fine, all I had to do was read rules and then post whatever I felt like, within the rules of course

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yes, and I thought it was really nice. This is the ONLY board I've been to that does that, and it lets me know that if I have questions, I won't have to deal with a bunch of people calling me a "stupid newbie" in a post.
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
No, I haven't had any concerns to PM her about.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
N/A
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
I like how they send you a PM/ reply to your thread soon after you sign up and post and make you feel welcomed here.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Well, I don't really think so. I mean, I had maybe 2 questions and I PMed someone before I had gotten a message from Colleen. I think that if you read the FAQ and the posts like that and use the search bar, you shouldn't need to do anything more. It's their fault if they don't read the FAQ before they start asking a bunch of questions that are answered in one place.
I hope this helped! I tried to make it as in depth as possible.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yes, by PM.
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
I just PM'd her, so one time.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
Just once.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
I think it's cool you try to help new people around, sometimes we can mess things up and people just laugh, instead of helping.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
No, I think it's ok.
I can see my posts already! Cool! I have a question, sorry, I just noticed. Why does it appear that I have only posted 3 times? I think I've posted more than that already... at least five or something.

ok here goes:
1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
i've been on since earlier this morning and no welcoming committee person has said anything to me
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
nope 'cause i don't have one
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
n/a
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
I know they're busy with all of the newer people here; but i think that there should be more on the committee because there are so many people here.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
dunno n/a

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yes, by PM, very nice, polite and stright to the point
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
I've not got any questions so far, only PMed back to thank her for the welcome but I know where to go for help.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
Just once.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
Its good, gives people a clearer pic of how not to get kicked off the board
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Nope, I think its all good.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Nope! But maybe that's because I never got to posting a thread in the Introduce Yourself Forum.. Who knows. :)
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
Nope, no questions yet!
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
I've never PM'ed anyone yet, I've only been here a few days. Heehee.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
I read through people's introductory threads, and I like how the committee is quick to reply to each one. As far as dislike goes, I don't think I've seen anything wrong with the committee I can complain about yet.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
I have the attention span of a warthog, and I've been able to read the FAQ in its entirety twice. Not only is it informative, but I actually think it's kind of interesting. The only reason newer posters might be breaking the rules is because they're not paying attention or they never got around to reading the FAQ. You guys are pretty much doing all you can.

You rule for reading the FAQ, btw. Major points for that. :D

i'd say im a bit of a newbie:
1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yup, PM
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
No, I've never PMed her. I felt a bit mean really...
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
None times
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
It felt a bit full on suddenly having someone PM me the minute I came in. However, I think its a good thing for most people because this place can seem intimidating
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
This is hard to answer considering you guys' size. You mods seem to have a busy time and do a good job... I, in general, know how to act on a forum so it was all on the whole fine for me but I really tried to read that FAQ... my eyes died i think lol.
Hmm... maybe having a short '5 points of EvBoard for Newbies' or something like that and have the welcome commitee copy/paste it on the end of the PMs for newbies could be an idea. ? ... maybe...

2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
I havn't Pmd anyone
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
never =[
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
i think that it's great how they make you feel welcome .. if i had been ignored i probably wouldn't have come into the forum again =]
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
errm nothing you guys do all you can =] people should read the FAQ's =] ..
or learn from mistakes i.e text language spelling .. or double posting ect (i learned the hard way =[

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post? Yes
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? Yes, I have asked questions when I needed to
3. If you have, how often do you PM? Only when I have a question, so not very often
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? I like the committee a lot, because they really help you get situated with what to do on the board. I don't dislike anything about it.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how? I think how the board is educating the new posters is fine.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yes, she did. (Thanks for that)
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
No, I haven't PM'd anyone. I think I don't have any important questions for now.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
It's nice to know there's somebody who can help you if you have problems or show you the right way if you do things the wrong way.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
I think what's already done is more than enough. I have some experience from other boards, but even if I fell from Mars, I would be able to educate myself with all that information for newbies.

yes, a kind pm ^^
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
no questions yet
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
never did
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
i like they are very kind and there to help, but in other forums every member can welcome the newbies, that's nice, but i guess it makes a lot of post and a bit of confusion, so i don't really dislike this.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
i don't think so, even if i wouldn't know what a board is i would have no questions, the faq are so clear ;)

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
Yes, through PM.
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
Yes, I think twice I had a question, and both times they were answered quickly & clearly. :)
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
I haven't had any need to PM again, so not really often.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
I like that it's quick and you have someone to ask without feeling like too much of a n00b. That way people aren't worried about getting jumped on for asking a n00bish question, cuz it's through PM and not on a thread.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Nope, the FAQ explains most of it, and then you have the welcoming committee for anything more specific, so there's not much more else you can do! :)

3. If you have, how often do you PM? I usually don't, just that rare case regarding posts.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all? I think it's a bit better then not having one, this way people who are completely lost know they have someone to give answers to their questions.
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how? um, I think everything is pretty well covered.

Both (thanks WildAngel)
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
Not yet, I just responded to the pm I was sent. It was just normal chit chat so far. The FAQ is pretty explicit as to what to do, so I really haven't had any questions yet.
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
Once so far, like I said it was just a thanks and a bit of chatter.
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
It's nice feeling welcomes, the warm and fuzzy feeling that the Doom hamster brings is nice. I like it because you get to know people faster. I have no dislikes so far, Everyone has been nice to the n00blet :D
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
No, people just need to learn how to read and pay attention! You set the rules out in plain type, it's really not that hard to read through a few FAQ pages.
