if it werent for school and the fact im (and my parents are) am paying a crapload of money to go there, this would be the perfect weekend to visit my uncle in san francisco. i could finally go to the west coast, and see two ev shows in the process. but, sadly, school and money limits prevent that :(

Since I live in Southern CA, for sure I'll be at the LosAngeles show the day before, but I'm considering flying up to San Fran for the 29th. I dont know if I'll be able to pull it off, but it's a definite idea/dream thing. :D

im going to try my ass off to make it.....i have to go to the l.a. one, so it'd be a driving all night sorta thing, or the next day anyways. or an early flight. and a place to stay. gah, ill try tho :/

Tutu Fairy

I'm afraid I might not go though. My parents promised they would take us to a concert if they came anywhere close, and now that they are, they're saying "We'll try". I asked my dad if he can take the day off for the concert, and again he said "I'll Try" which probably means "no" since his life fricking revolves around work...They don't always live-up to what they say. I hope they mean it this time! :(
But if I do go, can anyone tell me where the best seats are or something? (If you've been there of course.)

That sucks. Well, 6 hours isn't so bad either. :)

A friend and I made it from LA to SF in about 4:15 once, and she was driving between 80 and and 90 the whole way. I added an extra hour if it's from San Diego.

But yeah, I was half joking about speeding anyway, hehe.

i know so many people who got speeding tickets making that drive, so i'd rather not risk it. i go 80 tops, but im never the fastest person on the road as a rule of thumb.

Don't get too buzzed, something bad might happend ;P

Anyway, I'll be one of the first lining up to buy a ticket anyway, I'm most likely going by myself, so if you spot a guy in a Nightwish: Oceanborn sweatshirt, that'd be me.

So, as far as tickets are concerned, they'll be sold online right? are the tickets distributed by seats? like whoever gets the first tickets gets the best seat? I just canNOT be in the back. After being a fan for a long time and missing out on their Fallen tour, I just can't miss out on this one or suffer in the back.

PS - This would be my first time buying tickets like this *ever* since I usually buy them at the door and there usually aren't any seats in any metal shows I go to, so sorry if I sound like a newb, lol. If anyone could give me any tips as to how to make my ticket-buying more efficient, I'm all ears.

oh, im sure ill have some people willing to take care of my drunken self ;)

as far as buying tickets go, if you can't get them at the box office, just go to ticketmaster.com
they're going on sale this sunday at 10am...yes you have to pay the surcharges, but i don't expect it to be more than $40, well worth it IMO. I believe the first tickets to go will be GA, and if you want to be up close and personal, than that's what you want to get. You have to line up early though so you're one of the first ones in, that way you can get right on the guardrail. I'm hoping some evboard peeps will be there early and i can just cut in line with the group since i have to drive up from l.a.
i've never been to the warfield, but if it's like the wiltern than they have GA tickets on the floor, and than after those sell out they start selling off the seats. Don't quote me on that though, just a guess lol.

So you would recommend I show up at their box office (in person, instead of online)? I think this would be not only much easier, but would feel much more secure. Heck, I'd sleep overnight if I have to. I don't mean to sound like a freak but I've been anticipating this concert for TOO long, lol. Although, I wouldn't mind buying online as well, but in-person just makes it seem official like nothing could go wrong, yenno. Anyway, thanks for that. I hope I see EVBoard members there as well (eventhough I don't post as much here, hehe) so I won't be as estranged - remember, Nightwish - Oceanborn sweatshirt: me.

there's no danger in purchasing tickets online. i don't know when the box office is open at the theater, you'd have to call them, but most likely not on sunday....and i seriously doubt there will be a huge line. but if you try to purchase them on the day of the show, they will probably be sold out. seriously, best bet is to just buy them online.

At the Warfield the GA tickets are on the floor. Reserved seats are balcony. So buy a GA ticket online then get there really early if you want to be up front. It's not a big venue you so if you wait until DOS if it's not sold out the floor tickets will all be gone. However if your not fanatical about being up front the reserved seats won't be bad either. As I said, it's not a big venue.

Oh, awesome. So wait, what's a GA ticket? is that some sort of Grade-A ticket? Again, sorry, I haven't attended concerts in the Warfield/Fillmore theatres so I'm not used to it.

Oh and by the way, it'll be around 40 bucks?

I think it's "General Admission" but I'm not sure...

So, where do you guys think the best spot is? Are there any seats at least kind of close to the stage?

I think it's "General Admission" but I'm not sure...

So, where do you guys think the best spot is? Are there any seats at least kind of close to the stage?Yes, GA=General Admission. GA also means no seats. Open floor seating (standing actually). Open the doors, grab your spot. Right up to the stage if your early enough. (Well they'll probably have a security barrier but you get the idea). Of course it also means you'll be standing through the entire show.

Keep in mind that soundwise, up against the stage isn't always the best spot. Best spot for sound will be by the soundboard - usually toward the back on the floor. That's where the sound engineer will be so he'll make it sound best for him. Oh, and bring earplugs. The sound engineer is probably also a little deaf!

Tickets are $27.50-35.00. Add the Ticketmaster fee and other fees they'll tack on and it'll be more like $45.

Yeah, the sound isn't all that great up front. The loud music is fun though. Sure, you might leave the venue with less hearing, but hey, as long as I get to see the band I came to see perofrm. I'll probably enjoy being in the front - should be interesting watching Amy and the band up close.

Anyway, 45$.. not bad I guess. Compared to other big-named concerts I mean.

So, last question, BART or drive? I'm asking because it's gonna be crowded, and knowing how crowded San Francisco already is on normal days, I'm a bit aprehensive since I *never* drove in SF before. Should I drive there or take the BART? I live 30-40 mns away from SF (around Berkeley-San Pablo.)

Should I drive there or take the BART? I live 30-40 mns away from SF (around Berkeley-San Pablo.)It's on a sunday so traffic shouldn't really be a problem. But parking's going to add another $30 and if you're not used to driving in the city it's easy to get lost. Especially trying to find your way back to the Bay Bridge afterwards! Lot of construction down there right now.

Bart only runs until Midnight though so depends on how late you'll be partying (but if you are you probably shouldn't be driving!)

Ok. Well...are the seats very far away from the stage? (I'd be with my parents)This link has some pictures the might give you an idea if your on the floor and a seating chart. Seating chart's a little deceptive since the balconies are stacked. It makes it look like if you're on the top balcony you're way back but your not - just up high.

http://www.livenation.com/search/intermediateSearch/searchstring/warfield/

It only seats about 1000 so all of the seats are pretty close.

Here's another site where people post their opinion about the venue.

So, I'm thinking that I might possibly catch the BART to P-Hizzy after the show so I can holla at my parents and brother, but probably not. I think they all work on Monday anyway, and that would give me like, two seconds with them since Miranda and I would be heading back down here Monday. So I might just not even tell them I'm going to be up there. This makes me a sad Kate. :( Maybe I can convince them to come to San Francisco and have lunch with me or something, depending on what time we get there?

This link has some pictures the might give you an idea if your on the floor and a seating chart.

Here's another site where people post their opinion about the venue.

just got my ticket (and kate's too)
they come out to $46.10 per ticket for the GA ones after all the surcharges.
since i bought two, this is how it worked out:
tickets: $35 (x2)
convenience charge: 8.80 (x2)
order processing charge: 4.60 (only charged once)
total being 92.20

so it might be a bit more if you only buy one, but im not sure.
Not bad
CAN IT BE OCTOBER NOW?!?!?!

Just bought my tickets too.. woooo.. mine was like 106$ though.. maybe cause of the 14$ 3-day delivery charge. Shhh.. I would have done the no-charge delivery but I didn't see it until I reviewed the Shipping options again after I bought the tickets.. I felt rushed cause there was a time limit, lol. Wasted 14 bucks.. oh well.

Hi all,

I live in London and will be visiting my dad in San Fran for few weeks from end of October and so will be there for the Ev concert!! I've bought my ticket and really looking forward to it - although I don't know anyone over there who will be going so will be all alone :( (nuless my dad feels like coming along - which I doubt!!) Anyhoo, I've got a standing ticket and was wondering what time people generally start queuing????

Thanks,

more hate than love the majority of the time :)

i swear, the surcharges are ridiculous. it was almost equal to half the price of my ticket. my surcharges were 13 dollars and the ticket was 30. that makes no sense to me. and i didnt even do anything shipping wise. i took the free option. im not spending more money if i dont have to.

i know exactly what you mean. the other day, i bought two tickets for inland invasion at $35 a pop or something, and it ended up being $98 TOTAL because of the service charges. can you imagine, $14 in surcharges and crap for EACH ticket? that's enough for another show ticket all together if you're seeing a smaller band. omigawd.

WTF FIFTY DOLLARS FOR A TICKET?! boo! :[

if you want a good standing spot, make sure you're there to wait in line a few hours before doors open. there will definitely be a few crazies who'll be waiting in line ALL day... they'll be the ones in front of you. but if you're by yourself (which is fine :] i go to shows by myself all da time) then you can squeeze your way through the crowd pretty easily during the opening bands. good luck! enjoy the show and ENJOY SAN FRANCISCO AND ITS HOBOS!!! :D they are the best hobos in the universe, imo.
So is anyone gonna hobo it out a long long time before the door opens? I'm not a crazy fanatic but I have been anticipating this concert for awhile (since I've missed both concerts last year and I've been wanting to see EV for sooo long) so I'll probably be sitting on the sidewalk or something a long time before the door opens. Who wants to join? :p

Not sad at all. There's nothing wrong with going alone. I usually go to Metal shows alone, and it's sometimes funner that way. You get to meet people, talk to strangers. Not necessarily the most common scene, but it's a fun scene nontheless. Besides, these folks (and me, if you happend to bump into me) sound like they'll welcome you willingly.

Hey guys no one has posted a report about the show, so here I go. I'm only going to give an over view and leave the set list to the OCD out there, you know who you are!

First up was the late entry. Who's the dork that didn't open the doors on time! We were at the back of the line rapped around the block but the line moved us into inside fairly quickly. I'm just glad it didn't rain like it was forecast to earlier in the week. BGP/Clear Channel/Live Nation needs to get it shit together (more on the corporate dweebs later)

We found our seats near the back as my wife need to be able to sit due to a chronic illness. The Warfield is great for that! Thumbs up for not pulling all the tables out in order to sell more seats!

Chaos Theory was good. They have several songs that are balanced and would make great radio play in other (non-bay area) rock markets. Having grown up in Denver and been in a struggling band I know they have a good non "sceenester" or "new metal" radio sound! I really got in to mood to hear Evanescence based on what these four guys were doing! I really enjoyed their music and will look into following them.
Truly professionals they had lots of energy after having been in Az two nights before, LA on Saturday, and SF Sunday. Freaking awesome as far as I am concerned! Not may modern acts will do three nights in a row let alone three nights and 800+ miles of road travel.

/me soap box

And then I was aggressively confronted by a greasy haired, smelly, corporate photo Nazi. This photo weasel combed the crowed inserting himself into any pack in order to stop people form taking or forcing them to delete pictures on their cell phones. He clearly had not bathed in several days and did not ask if, but demanded deletion. I was told to delete all the photos on my cell phone. I was then forced to show him on the spot that I had either deleted said photo's or that I had none from the concert. If he had simply asked I would have gladly told/ showed what was up with my phone usage. I was then told that, if I did not comply I "would have a problem." I was then ordered to "keep my cell phone in my pocket and not to remove it or" the same threat "I would have a problem." While I feel the artists have a right to protect them selves, this was clearly some schmuck hired by the record company/management in order to harass the crowd. I was thoroughly disgusted by his individual tactics. There was no way of stopping or preventing all picture from being taken but he insisted in assuming everyone in the crowd who lifted their cell phone was "taking a picture." I was merely trying to turn my light on the back of my phone in order to show the band that there were people in the back who were digging the show. If had had a lighter, glow stick or flashlight I would have used it. All I had on me was my phone.

Be for warned of the new photo's Nazi's they'll be preceded by a terrible smell.

soap box me/

Fortunately, I was not trying to take pictures and when Evanescence came out I was still primed for the show! With a BOOM the show opened and roared into the next song with only a short gap. Three songs in we heard from Amy, she tells us how happy she is that we all showed up even though it had been "years." Even though they only did a two set, that being two sets of rocking full band songs with a solo piano buffer, the show was still over an hour long. They had far less down time between songs and clearly were having fun between the piano moves with short burst of Ozzy Ozborn, Black Sabath and Deep Purple song fragments. This prompted a response from Amy of "you’re scaring them guys." That was funny! They played loose and smooth as though they had been playing in the years of off time. Good music and friendly fun! Though they weren't stiff in Jan 04 they were clearly still dealing with Ben's departure. This show was way more of the older fun group! I'm glad they were having so much fun given they had been on the road for the days straight!

On the technical side I was less then impressed with the over processing and bad pitch correcting on Amy’s voice. It seemed to come and go too. I'm not sure if she changed microphones or they eventually sorted things out at the mixer but things definitely changed at about the 4 song mark. The first song her voice was in perfect pitch and then the next couple of songs things got weird. After the fourth song it seemed to go away and stay in the back ground the rest of the night.

As for the guitars the boys played they're harts out! But there were some technically strange anomalies. Both guys seemed to have a couple of songs that appeared to take their focus away from their performance in favor of some technical things they had to do at their feet. Terry faded in and out a couple of times, and frankly didn't play the last four notes of a solo. I understand it's not his solo, but he went that far why not finish? I am being very picky here so feel free to bash me for my overly picky observations. They're just my personal thoughts.

To bring this back to the positive side the over all package of the show was very solid! They completely blew me away with the lights and the sound quality, seeing as this was the third show in as many nights across 800+ miles of road! Having personally preformed three shows in three nights across only 400 miles I can tell you that I needed to be scraped off the stage at the end of the night. I'm floored with the show and both bands energy level! True pros and clearly they enjoyed our response to their return and new material. Amy commented on at least twice. She was happy to see us "rocking out to the new stuff." That translated directly into the audiences’ reaction to every song. Everyone was solidly high energy all night. No crescendo to a peak with a drop just steady all night! Good show for the performers and audience!

^ I feel you...

I only have 10 mins, but i'll post what I can now. Oh.My.God. It was amazing, minus the Nazis (we labeled them that, too) who took my friends purse and almost took my phone (it doesn't even have a camara) w/e... We got their kinda late, but we still saw RT, who were awesome. After their set, they were selling CDs and I bought one. I also bought the blue shirt. it's pretty. :P
Ev was amazing. I can't really describe it. Setlist (i'm pretty sure)...

SS
WotW
GU
The Only One
Haunted
Whisper
Lithium
Good Enough (with Narnia intro!!)
Sober
Imaginary
BMTL
Lacrymosa
--
MI
ATILF

It was short, but sweet. Amy lets us sing during MI, but we weren't that loud. Damn you stoners (their were a lot, apparently...) Anyway, story time...

So we were in the back, and my friend wanted to get pictures, so she went up into the front, but they caught her and took her purse and camara, but she pulled out the memory chip before they get it. After the show, we went out the back dooor (everyone was), and Richie was infront of the HUGE bus, so we asked if we could get a picture. Well, when pulling the memory card out, she bent it... after 5 mins of trying to get it to go in, Richie says "Here, you can have it" ...a 1 GB Memory Chip that he had confiscated from someone... SCORE! So we took a pic with him, and had to leave *sad* but on the way back to the car, we were looking at the pics and... SCORE! Someone with Tim, and a couple of Tim randomly... a few or RT, and some awesome Pics of Amy... Like I said, score... That was deffinetly the best part of the night besides Ev. Richie was so sweet.

I g2g now, but I'll post my other Nazi story later... grr at camara/phone Nazis!!! sorry for typos!

p.s... meastro, where exactly were you sitting?

Since no one else has posted... I'll edit this

Well, we got off to a really late start, and left Oakland about 5:45. Traffic wasn't too bad, but still... We were going to go to Chevy's, but ended going to Blondies Pizza because of time. We just found a parking spot not too far from the venue and ate in the car. We finally got in line which was still around the block. We got inside and got our seats. We had reserved seating downstairs, but only had two passes, so we had to switch off going outside and getting stuff. During/after RT, me and my friend Elyse got the blur Ev/Amy shirt, and my other friend Jill got the buttons. Stuff was really expensive :p

It wasn't long before Ev came on, and it was pretty awesome. I can't say much more.

Personal Nazi experience - While we were in the merch line, I called my aunt and uncle and asked what song they wanted to hear (bmtl or mi). She said MI, but when bmtl came on, I decided to call anyway. Well, I had my shirt on the table, and my friends were trying to cover the phone up, and I didn't realize why... One of the Nazi's were coming over. He came, and was like, "You better delete those pictures, turn that phone off and put it away!" It's not a camera phone, and I said that, but he walked away. I turned it off, but didn't put it away. He came back again and was like, "PUT IT AWAY!" I did, but I still called during MI, but was scare, because E's camara/purse had gotten taken earlier. It's whatever. After was awesome, and Ritchie giving us that memory card with some awesome pics on it made up for it all. We got home at 11, and finally to sleep at 12ish. My neck is killing and my throat hurts bad, but it was all worth it.

Sorry for the choppiness, but I just kinda typed. Yeah... Sorry I didn't get to meet anyone, but it was still fun. BTW, I left my nametag at home, so I made a ghetto one in the car after we ate. :P Hope everyone else had an awesome time!

P.P.S. Post Concert Depression sucks big time.
P.P.P.S. If you, or someone you know got their memory stick confiscated by Ritchie, sorry, but my friend Elyse has it now. :D
P.S.x4 Does anyone have an iRiver and know how to get a voice recording off of it and on the computer? ...cause I recorded the show *ninja*

Liz and I were center stage at the set of tables not reserved (or walled off). If you walked in from the merch booth nearest the stairs to the basement/restrooms we would have been on the left about half way between the isles. I was wearing a brown leather jacket black dress shirt, silky blood red tie and black jeans. Liz was wearing a black fitted brocade top and blue jeans. We were with another older couple, people we didn't know.

We came with Allisathecat and her friend. We all really enjoyed the show, aside from the smelly nazi.
