They are doing publicity for this show on some radio stations... It's kinda bad news, ya know, now alot more people are aware of this show, and 'cause this is a small venue, everyone who really want a place will hurry to get one... I HAVE TO GET MY TICKETS even if it's by some different-but-yet-convincing manners... ;) (I'll torture the guy who sells tickets before august 19th... mouahahahaha) just joking by the way, I'm not one of those freaky/obsessed fan Amy will probably talk about in Snow White Queen

Hello EVeryone l's :) My name is Jared and I WILL be going. I am from Ottawa Ontario, and I have seen Evanescence 2 times. I saw them in Montreal the first go around for Fallen at the Bell Center in GA floors. Then on their Summer 2004 Tour I saw them in Ottawa at the Corel Center. (Btw since I am new here where could I find the comments Amy Lee made about the Ottawa show? , and some good fan taken pics of the show. I love music BIG TIME some of fave artists are
Tori Amos
Depeche Mode
Ani Difranco
Bon Jovi
PJ Harvey
Finger Eleven
Alanis Morissette
Def Leppard
Siouxsie and the Banshees
P!NK
Aerosmith
Howie Day
Rufus Wainwright
Amanda Marshall
Sarah Slean
Sarah Harmer
Sarah Maclahlin
Melissa Etheridge
Evanescence
Ben Folds
Fiona Apple
etc etc
This is what I look like.http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e23/Adam_Eve/MeandTori2005.jpg The photo is of me meeting Tori Amos in Montreal outside the Bell Center on August 26th 2005 during her usual pre -show meet and greets.
I was wondering if there is anyone from Ottawa who would either a)drive me and I'd pay for gas to and from the show or would like to take the train/bus with me.
Last but least Would anyone here be interested in doing a group meetup around 3:00pm (Gives us enough time to lineup and all for dinner and or meerup after the show to party (for those old enough to drink. I am 25) If something is going on I would suggest a fave hang out of mine ARIA AFTER DARK, as I LOVE TRANCE MUSIC. I have done pre show meetups before so I can help/plan the thing if anyone is interested.
HAVE A NICE DAY
JARED :)

is everyone planning on staying at the venue until the show? We could pass by somewhere for lunch depending on the amount of people at the venue... shouldn't be too bad seeing as it is a small venue... compared to something like the Bell Center, that is to say.
I was thinking of "3 Amigos" since my friends from Toronto/Laval still havn't been to the place.

Hey, guys. I was wondering if you could help me out here.
Seeing as how there are tickets left for this venue (but probably not for long!), I'm really starting to put the pressure on my dad to take me to it. I think I've finally persuaded him, but there's one problem. My dad's a truck driver, and the only way I can get to the concert is if I go with him for that working week (or half week - whatever). My mom doesn't want to go and I know for a fact that she will not drive to Montreal (she probably doesn't even know how to get there, LOL). So when I told my dad where the venue is he was like, "But it's right downtown! How the hell am I supposed to park the truck down there?!" So, yeah ... that's the problem. Are there ANY places, any places at all where my dad could safely park his transport truck off the street? Of course, it has to be close-by, or at least within walking distance.
If you guys could respond ASAP, either here or by PM, it would be very much appreciated. I have never seen Ev live before and I want to see them up close before the stadium tour next year.

Before I start rambling on, just to be sure, we are talking about those big ass 18-wheeler types of vehicles and not some variety of 4x4, GMC truck, etc.
If that is the case then I'm going to have to dissagree that it would be so simple as to find the neerest parking space that is close to a metro station or to the venue. I study in downtown montreal and pass by many of these parking spaces daily and have not, to this day in three years at Mcgill, seen a transport truck parked at one of these locations. It is usually just people's cars. I'm sure it would be possible to find a plausible location but it would be best not to assume that they would allow you to park anywhere. Many of the parking lots downtown are quite small and it would be, in some ways, bad for business to have a truck blocking off a few of the spaces. I don't know what it would cost and where you'd be able to park your dad's truck. I might have to do some investigating. What I do know is that there is a parking lot not too far from the Spectrum (another one of the local venues) that was willing to park a Coach/RV/Tour Bus but at quite a fee. If I remember correctly they had asked for about 2000$ for the day. I tried looking online and there is nothing about the regulations when it comes to parking lots. I'll keep my eyes peeled and will let you know if I see any transport vehicles parked anywhere safe. Another thing to consider is when you'd get in. Because parking on a Friday night in downtown Montreal for anything more then a car or van is difficult, you also have to think that they have to get the truck into the parking spot and with people comming and going these parking lots can get very unorganized to say the least.
If you let me know the specifics of what you guys require I can try to find out where you'd be able to park and what the fee would be, etc.

Yes, it is a big ass 18-wheeler type of truck. Of course, we won't have a trailer hooked on (too much of a risk to take downtown) so it'll just be the truck itself. I don't know what time we'd get in (probably between 6 and 7 pm), but we most certainly won't be in Montreal for the whole day. I think the truck would only need to take up two parking spaces maximum - sort of out of the way, but not out of sight where something could happen to it. I think my dad is seriously thinking about letting me go, but I just want to reassure him that there is a safe place to park his 'baby' out of the way. A friend of his suggested that we park at a restaurant (with a large enough parking lot, of course) and then take a cab or a metro.
You probably haven't seen any big-rigs parked in the metros because most truckers don't have time or need to take a metro. We're an exception, of course! :D
Thank you so much for taking the time to help. This is why I love EvBoard so much - you guys are so willing to help others. <3 :)

There are parking lots all over the place in downtown Montreal and those I normally see are not close to metros. I get lifts to school so usually I notice them about the "entrance" to downtown Montreal. But if it is just to park the actual truck I don't think it would be an issue. Its not that much bigger then the other vehicles so... the only issue would be finding a parking spot at that hour on friday... my best advice would be to base your actions on where you can park.

1) Where are we all coming from to see this show? For ex. I am coming from Ottawa Ontario.
2) I was hoping to score a ride from someone going to the show and was driving. Anyhelp would be much appreciated.
3) I was going to suggest having a group photo taken of all of the EV board members attending the show would this interest anyone?
4) What about eating? I suggest we eat at around 2:30-3:00 and go straight to Metropolis to get in line.
5) How many people are wearing an EV name tag? (I am)

not to get anyone's hopes down or anything but Hello hasn't been played live during a concert to my knowledge. there was some speculation during the previous tours that it was because of the subject of the song. either way, if the band hasn't rehersed it i doubt they would play it.

It hasn't, but the video there was a video of her posted a while back singing Hello with the guy who bought her old piano (or his friend), so since she has said that she'd never do it live, this has started people talking about it again.
There's a big difference with her playing a song with a single person in her living room, as opposed to thousands of fans at a concert.
I'm pretty sure that that was a one time deal though, and she won't be playing Hello live.

thanks for clearing that up, i knew i had heard that somewhere about her not playing it live but i didn't have a source. its a very personal/emotional song and some artists don't feel comfortable signing those live. Not to mention, that one myspace video that she was in, she probably didn't count on that being released to the general public.

Might I ask what the song is about? With all due respect for Amy, I find it odd if she wouldn;t sing it becuase of the subject matter being too personal, as my #1 singer Tori Amos has a song called "me and a gun". Which is about a night after a concert when in the late 80's when before she was signed to Atlantic records, and still palying the L.A bars doing a bad version of Pat Benatar. Well she offered a regular patron a ride home and he ended up pulling a knife on her, and then raping her. Also many songs off of her 1998 album "from the choirgirl hotel", Spark being one of them and my all time fave song from anyone EVER, deal with a painfull unexpected miscarraige she had at the 3 month point in her pregnancy. Too each their own I guess, but I am just saying that if someone can sing about that, and Amy finds Hello too painful to sing, it must be about something "horrible".
Boadicea
09-11-2006, 02:28 PM
It is at Amy's own discretion to chose which songs she wishes to sing live. Some artists find it easier to sing songs about rape, emotional turmoil, etc. Some people feel it is too difficult to do so and some find that it mends the wound to sing certain songs over and over while on tour. However, as Amy has stated in the past that she won't sing it live. If I'm not mistaken the song covers the same event that "Like You" covers on "The Open Door". Interviewers have asked Amy about that event in the past and it always seems to effect her quite a bit, just talking about it. I'm guessing that's why she won't sing the song live.
From the Like You thread:
The most personal on The Open Door is “Like You”. “It is about something that’d hard to even talk about but feels good to write about,” explains Lee. “It’s about my sister who passed away when I was a little girl. I was 6 years old and she was 3. It’s affected my life and definitely affected my music writing, and it’s made me who I am. It’s one of those things that happens early enough in life that it forms you. I think in a lot of ways I made it a thing that I can use in a positive way in my life. I’ve learnt from it and grown up, and I’ve always felt older. Twenty-four sounds young to me, it’s weird.”
Having lost a sister at such a young age put things in perspective for Lee, who says she cherishes making music and wants to love. “What else is there?” she ponders. “I don’t care about the stupid things as much as I would if I hadn’t been through that. The song [‘Like You’] is about me from the perspective of a child back then, and I go back to that place a lot of times. I went there and wrote the song that way. It’s not the kind of thing that I would normally say on a megaphone in front of millions of people.”
“It’s something that changes you,” the singer stresses. “I love her, and I will always love her. Her spirit is always with us. I feel like I’ll always want to have a little place for her on every record. On the last record, it was ‘Hello,’ and I wrote that from the perspective of a child. I was talking about it in a little bit of a different way, but it’s the same inspiration."

That depends on which member of the band you'd like to get something signed by. It also depends on the band's schedule and when they are to leave for the next date. I know that the band is supposed to have an afterparty after the Toronto show, if that is the case for the montreal show you might have to wait really long or you might be out of luck. Before the show is a bit of a toss up, nothing says that the band will have a reason to come out of the bus until soundcheck or at all if they are already inside before you get to the venue.

I have some pics from the show. I also was lucky to snag the setlist and earlier in the day I lucked out with getting Terry and Amy's autographs. Since I am tired and just got in from Montreal(I live In Ottawa l's) I am going to bed but I will post more tomorrow.

Awesome set list. If it had just included 'your star' (and maybe 'lose control') it would've been perfect.

I hope they'll do the rest of TOD in the future. I know our chances to hear Like You live are very slim, but I cross my fingers for Lose Control, Your Star and Cloud Nine.
P.S. Could someone tell us about how much different the new songs are live? And how much different are the old songs now?
Haunted_Hello

Well I thought the old songs sounded the same and the new ones were just like the cd except louder and live.
just an illusion

IAW that. I hope they'll do more songs in the larger venues. And I still hope they'll do a cover, tho Amy didn't want it to happen. Let's see.
Back on topic. I'm glad you had a great time, guys. I'm looking forward to your reviews and pics. ;)

Ok I went down to the Montreal Evanescence show @ the Metropolis for their club tour in support of The Open Door. I went to the back and waited ALL DAY. I met Terry and got him to sign the group photo in The Open Door CD booklet. Then later I got Amy Lee to sign the same picture. I wanted a picture with her but she said "No I don't have any makeup on." She still looked hot to me. I had to fight for the setlist but in the end I got it. For now here are some pics from the show and 1 of the autographs.
The big difference between the cd and Live was for Lacrymosa, there wasn't the choir in the background...
I wanted to wait at the end, but me and my friends have been standing up like 9 hours...and my feets were dead...
EDIT: I haven't seen any nametag...:(

That's like the best grouping of songs you could have. I love how they all have an underlying theme to them. They go really well together <3. The one thing that sticks out at me is having Good Enough in the middle and then CMWYS following it. idk I always picture Good Enough being towards the end.
And it's great to hear that Amy's not sounding like the Conan appearance, lol. *suddenly wants to go to his MN show again* ;)

That's completely normal in the UK, thank goodness. I know the gig we're talking about is outwith the UK, but I just wanted to express that opinion...I would be pretty miserable if they used two or three support bands over here. How much longer can a person hold on to see Evanescence?
Anyway, the gig sounds terrific. It's really nice that so many people from Evboard are getting the chance to meet the band, that they're coming out to sign autographs and things.
:D

Actually, come to think of it...that will be kind of nice.
I stood in line for hours in Atlanta, but it got me right up at the stage.
Then I had to stand through THREE bands, THREE set changes, until EV finally played.
I think my feet and legs were permanently damaged. :(

Since scenceable isn't a PS, she couldn't post this her self, but I told her I would post it for everyone here to read.
Awesome pictures, awesome videos. I can't wait until they tour over here. Looks like this tour will start kicking ass the more shows they do. I have heard/seen Lithium acoustic live, but it will feel so crazily different when they tour!
