To summarize the chat:

Get there as early as possible (some people will be there at 7am)
There are places to eat in the area (Bathroom at the Barnes & Noble)
After the show, we'll be heading out back by the tour buses to try to meet up with the band.
Depending on the time, if anyone knows of any 'late night' diner type places i the area, maybe we can hit one of those.
If you have an issue with any of the above information, don't fret. I'm sure you'll come in contact with EvBoard'ers once you get online. Just keep a look out for EvBoard name tags :)
I have 1" EvBoard Buttons to hand out. If you would like one, you should hunt me down. Only one button per EvBoard'er though, please.

Awesome! Now I just have to find someone to go with me...few of my Bostonian friends outside of Evboard actually like them.

::starts sending them subliminal messages telling them that they love Ev to death::

I definately should be going, unless I end up at the Philly one with friends from NJ. Hopefully, I can go to both. Btw, Are we going to stage an Evboard gathering or anything?

Yup, that we will.

The East Coasters who usually go to shows in the NY/PA/MA area usually post in the "East Coast Road Trippers Thread (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?p=914582#post914582)". I know that's where I'll be posting most of my plans about the tour.

Ooh, nice.

I'd love to go. I'd have to find someone to go with here, but.. it shouldn't be too hard. I hope.

I'm glad it's on a Saturday, my mom wouldn't like it if I missed school for a concert.

Now to find someone from western Massachusetts to go with me...

You know, Tracie, I almost wish that the NYC and Boston dates were reversed. I go to school in Boston, so getting to the Avalon is a piece of cake. But getting to NYC on a Monday night is going to be a little more difficult. However...BOSTON ROCKS. :D

I wonder how far away the Avalon is from Fenway Park/BU. Does anyone know if it's off a stop on the T? *goes to do some research*

EDIT: Oh, my, it's right near Fenway :D I could walk it if I wanted! W00t! It doesn't seem to be near a specific T stop, though..the website would probably say so.

The address for anyone who wants to get directions is: 15 Lansdowne Street :)

lol, that's just a short bus ride away from my school in downtown Boston. Now I just have to convince my parents that you aren't all creepy rapists so they'll let me meet up with you guys. It would be AWESOME if they were going to play at Fenway like the Rolling Stones did. But Avalon's cool too. I have to go check out their back exit now.

Does anyone know if there's a good way to get there from Copley Square?

Katya
08-10-2006, 06:51 PM
I would take the T to Fenway and go from there. Or Kenmore. Kenmore is about .2 seconds away from Fenway Park. One of the sites I found on it had a mapquest map that showed you where it is. Do a google search :)

Depending on what time we all plan on meeting, I might be able to meet you at Kenmore. I live quite literally next to it. And however meeting up works out, Tracie, I would be more than happy to get there early and wait till you guys get there. I don't know how much of a walk it is, but I can find out by trying it when I get to school...I don't expect over 20 minutes, but you never know. ;)

There's the Subway. Take it to Kenmore, then walk to Fenway. The street should be there.. somewhere, where the venue is.

Working on plans to see that show tooYes we are. :p

Here's a map. The black circle is Kenmore, the red arrow is where I am, and the star is Avalon. If anyone wants to meet me to walk together, that'd be just fine :)

I'm going to try to get to this one in addition to the NYC show.

If I can get someone to go with me, I think i'll book a hotel for saturday night so we don't have to make the 4.5 hour drive home after the concert. that would be sweet. i've never been to boston! :)

I'm bugging all my friends and asking them if they like Ev, hoping desperately to find someone to go with me who could potentially fit in with us Evboarders in our Ev-obsession. So far no luck :(, except for one girl who doesn't like Ev, but is a concert junkie and will go to see just about anyone.

Why can't they appreciate good music? lol.

So do you think it will be hard for me to drive to the avalon from Connecticut ? Is it really hard to get around there ?

Katya
08-11-2006, 09:41 PM
Boston in general is a BITCH to drive around. The streets are so confusing. You need a good map, sense of direction, and set of directions for sure.

But yeah, come up there anyway :D It'll be a good time.

Hoopyfrood
08-11-2006, 09:49 PM
Assuming I don't miss buying tickets, I will definitely be there. I also wish it was reversed with NYC as I work downtown and could just hop the green line over from work, and I'd be able to hit the NY show.

Meeting at Kenmore sounds fine and it's an easy place to get to and congregate. About what time should we all show up?

Draconian~Nymph
08-11-2006, 09:49 PM

Yeah, it'll be a bitch, but I personally consider it part of the experience. lol.
The Big Dig sucks. It just sucks.

Katya
08-11-2006, 09:55 PM
Well, Hoopyfrood, I think we'll have to feel out how the Canada concerts are. I remember that people got to Roseland (in February 2004) at 7 AM, but we didn't go to Philly until 10 or 11 AM. I would guess closer to 8 or 9 though, because it seems that Ev is really doing well with CMWYS. We'll have to see. If Ev does fabulously well, then we'll have to get there earlier.

Draconian~Nymph, since you know Boston, could you guess how far of a walk it is from Kenmore to the Avalon?

If you don't actually enter the city, you can get there VERY easily. There is a major subway station just outside all the mess right on a major highway that you can park at and ride in from. Subway is $1.25 per ride and $5 for parking, and parking out there will make it much easier on you.
Easy directions from your area are to get into Mass on 84, then on to Mass Pike East. Leave Mass Pike for I-95 North. Turn on to Route 2 East, and the subway station has an offramp about 5 miles up.
It's what I'm gonna be doing, no way I'm paying $15-$20 to park in town. :P

It is hard to get around Boston unless you know where you're going and what you're doing. The Big Dig is awful. Haha, it is done, yes, but it's still horrible to go through.

Katy, I've walked from Kenmore to Fenway, which is around where the venue is. Assuming you're taking the subway, you walk out of the subway entrance and go left, and go up the street. I've been there recently with another EvBoarder, so I remember it well. It's literally up the street. It's just a matter of finding the street the venue itself is on, which shouldn't be too hard, tbh.

I assume the tickets are GA, correct? And they should be avaliable to purchase off ticketmaster.com on the 19th...?

Haha broken_rebel, I live practically on top of Kenmore (when I'm at school anyway). See my map on the previous page.

In answer to your questions, yes and yes. Hence why we need to get there early.

I don't think it would take too long though. :) 5 to 10 minutes at the most, if you know where you're going.

How early would you say we should arrive? Normally I've gotten to concerts around 6 pm. I know the line will be long for this one though.

I guess we should buy tickets asap then.

But the Big Dig is done! *coughcough*

lol yeah, except that it collapses and then they have to spend a lot more time, energy, money, and finger-pointing to fix it. :p

And I actually don't go that way too often, but I checked with a friend and we also decided that it's about 5-10 minutes. I have to re-learn the subways; I hate taking them. I usually stick to busses. But in this case, I think the subway would be better.

does anyone have any idea why ticketmaster doesn't have the boston show listed? i mean the show on the 17th in chicago presales tomorrow...i SO don't want to miss tickets! as with everyone else, i still need to find someone to go with me :op
considering this tour is only a month long (or so i've read), i bet they'll have another one in less than a year. what do ya'll think??

So it appears that I might be travelling up to Boston alone for the show. If anyone in the NJ/NY area is interested in hitching a ride with me and splitting hotel room costs, let me know.

I know none of the people on this board know me, i just basically come on here all the time and read. But ive finally decided to post something on the boards :). I myself will be going to this concert, with a friend of mine.. the only friend of mine that actually enjoys Ev. I sooo cant wait, im SOO excited, i keep getting the chills just thinking about it. Who is the pre-sale through? I haven't seen anything about it or heard anything on any of the local stations...

Tracie
08-16-2006, 07:11 AM
Just says:

Internet Presale Info
Presale:
Start:Wed, 08/16/06 11:00 AM EDT
End:Thu, 08/17/06 06:00 PM EDT

It says sponsored by LiveNation, but I've been signed up for that mailing list, ev eteam, wind up newsletter...and even the radio station by me in NY (which show is also having a presale) and got nada from any of them.

Maybe they're waiting until closer to the time they go on sale, which is sucky, since I usually get all my 'alerts' and newsleters later than everyone else.

Edit: Ok looks like the presale just got changed to 5pm for some reason.

ive been to the Avalon many times, so heres a quick guide for those who havent:

Coming from western mass or out of state: Cheapest option for you will be to park at a T station on the D line and ride in to Kenmore. parking is 5 and your D line ride will be around $3, or $1.50 depending what stop. On the way back, walk to Fenway station (where the Landmark center is) and you ride back to your car for free.

If youre coming from Worcester, then get off at the Yawkey stop. Its extremely close. Check the schedule, not all trains stop at Yawkey.

There is parking near the Avalon, but its more expensive. As the place is next to Fenway, there is stadium parking, and some BU lots open to the public. I dont follow baseball, so I have no idea if there will be a game that day. If so, arrive early for parking.

Coming from Boston: make your way to the green line and take a B, C or D train to Kenmore. $1.25 each way.

Once at Kenmore: Make your way to the ticketing level, and exit to the left past the turnstiles (or probably gates by October).
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3533-1.jpg

You should exit through this door.

And then head to the right of the image (your left when exiting)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3800-1.jpg

Then walk past the Mcdonalds and then left after the Bank of America, and head towards the stadium.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3866.jpg

Then go down this street (left again)
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3913.jpg

Avalon is on the left, directly across from the stadium.
Youll see some Avalon flags, and some rope to direct you in.
If youre under 21 or dont drink, skip past the bouncers standing outside, they give you a bracelet if you want to buy a drink at the show

Inside Avalon:
Its all standing room (unless youre a VIP) so get here early if you really want to be next to the stage. Im assuming this concert will be sold out.

Here are a few general pictures of inside Avalon. Ive been there to watch Story of the Year, Catch 22 (with Big D) and State Radio.

I dont know if Evanescence has an opening band. In this shot, hes the first opening guy (1 of 4) so it was only just filling up
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3682.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3485.jpg

After a show
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_3432.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/jamesinclair/IMG_1876.jpg

In any case, the show will end no later than 10pm. Avalon kicks out the rock people at 10, so they can clean the place and open up for the club people. (19+)

As for the return, as I said above, D liners walk to fenway station at Landmark Center for a free ride. The T runs until a bit past midnight.

FYI people. If you have not gotten you tickets yet. If you go to livenation.com you pay just 1 charge and i think thats gonna be 5 dollars so if you want to save a couple of bucks. On the regular onsale get them then. I might do that but i am going to be in boston the day of the regular onsale so i may just get them at the orpheum.

Thanks jass! The info/pictures are really helpful :)

I just got my tickets. :D I've never been to an all standing concert before, so what's the latest I could get there and still be pretty close to the stage?

jass
08-16-2006, 07:10 PM
If you notice my pictures, I always stand in the same place for all the concerts I go to. Im not a fan of standing directly in front of the stage (the dance floor) as I like taking pictures and videos, versus jumping up and down the entire show. So I usually arrive right when the concert starts (6:59 for example) and always get my spot.

How early the crowd arrives depends on the opening bands. For Catch 22, there were 4 bands, so at the start time, there werent that many people.

I have no idea at what time the people standing next to the stage arrive. Avalon isnt that big though, so you get a pretty good experience wherever you are....unless youre very short.

this'll be my first ever ev concert, though i've been a fan for a looooong time.

my friends all hate ev, soooo I may end up coming alone!

Katya
08-16-2006, 08:24 PM
I personally plan to be front and center :D I like a good view of all band members onstage, and I like being right on the barrier. It gives me something to hold on to if people get rough lol.

I'm probably going to sneak a camera, but not use it during the concert. Before and after, when we're all hanging out, is when I'll be using it.

And, just judging from past experience, I'd plan on getting to Avalon EARLY. While they dropped off the radar for casual fans, Ev is still a popular band. They sold out shows last time, and I'm pretty sure they'll sell out this time (except they probably will not sell out in half an hour like the Roseland show did two years ago, since that was at their peak in popularity).

Right now, since we don't know what to expect (Canada's concerts should give us an idea), I'm planning on getting to the venue at about 9 AM. If people don't show up to the previous concerts until later, then maybe 10. I remember that some people got to Roseland (I refer to that concert because the venue was of a similar size) at 7 AM and that was in February...on the other hand, I got to Philly (later that year, in the summer) at around 11, and there were about ten of us there. So we'll just have to see. :)

Good Plan.

Whatever you do don't let the security guards up front even get a whiff that you have a camera. The Last two times I've been at the Avalon, I almost got taken out by a security guard who pretty much jumped on my head for a girl taking pictures with a disposable camera behind/near me. Things might have changed now though. *shrugs*

Sidenote: don't know if you got my txt message, Katy, but I got your ticket today :)

Ive never had any problem with my camera, and Ive never really tried to hide it. Ive filmed entire songs, and taken loads of pictures. Its pretty hard to get a good image when the lights change so much, so I have it on alot. My screen is also pretty large (2.5")

And Katya, I doubt mroe than 5 people will be near Avalon at 10am. According to their website, Avalon holds 2,000 people, but this seems to include Axis, which is used when the club opens at night. For rock concerts, the capacity is less. The majority of the people are pretty punctual (5:45 for a 6pm show)

I believe we're taking the T up to Boston from Brockton. I know the last stop is at South Station. We'd then have to go take the Red Line to Park Street, and then the Green Line to Kenmore, right? I think that was how I did it in June.

Also, you mentioned the show will most likely end sometime before 10 PM? So we'd have time to get all the subways and make it in time for the commuter rail to Brockton, as the last train departs from South Station at 10:30...?

$26 is not bad at all for a price. :)

Right, at South Station you go down the stairs and take the red line to park, then up the stairs and a B, C or D train to Kenmore.

As for your return trip, its a bit tricky, since youll be cutting it close. Unless Evanescence made a special arrangement, the band must stop playing at 10pm. That gives you a clear 30 minutes, however, the Green Line is famous for never being on time, and Ive actually missed a train because my green line car went on "standy" in a tunnel for ten minutes.

According to the MBTA website, a train leaves kenmore for park at 10 and then 10:05pm. However, they recommend walking from Park to South Station. Saturday night means the red line runs only once every 15 mintues or so, so I guess walking is faster?

Here are the directions they give for walking from Park to South Station

Walk a short distance SE on Park St Sta Walkway.
Bear left on Winter St.
Walk approx. 1 block SE on Winter St.
Walk straight on Summer St.
Walk approx. 3 blocks SE on Summer St.
Total walking is 0.43 miles.

It really depends on your luck. Unfortunatly, the T doesnt yet anounce how long it is until the next train arrives, only when its entering the station, so the only way youll know if you just missed a red train and is worth walking is asking a police guard.

Maybe youd be best off using the T a week before the show to see if youd make it or not?

Right now, since we don't know what to expect (Canada's concerts should give us an idea), I'm planning on getting to the venue at about 9 AM. If people don't show up to the previous concerts until later, then maybe 10. I remember that some people got to Roseland (I refer to that concert because the venue was of a similar size) at 7 AM and that was in February...on the other hand, I got to Philly (later that year, in the summer) at around 11, and there were about ten of us there. So we'll just have to see. :)

Haha I'l meet you up there at 10 if you're serious. My friend is going to a Boston college as well, so I may just stay at her dorm Friday night and leave my car at the train station for a day or two. We'll see. I'm up for anything! And I'm wicked pumped. Wicked wicked pumped. XD

I would not trust getting from the show back to South Station in 30 minutes. It might be a good idea to have a backup plan to get home in the event that you miss the train. It may serve as well to drive up to Braintree and ride the Red Line from there all the way up to Park, if you can do so.

Boston College has a pretty large multistory parking garage. Id ask your friend if it was open for visitors, and how much they charge, if anything.

From BC, just take the Green line down to Kenmore. Should be a 20 minute ride.

Also, broken_rebel, Hoopyfrood's idea of driving up just a bit and parking along the ride line is pretty good. It wont cost you much more either.

Its possible that they release a certain amount of units each day. I wouldnt count on it though, but it doesnt hrut to check again.

As stated, Kiss108 is a good bet. Theres a chance that The Rock of Boston (104.1) might do that, but closer to the show.

Theres also a Worcester rock station you can listen to in Boston, but I can only get the signal in the car, not at home. They might do something as well.

I think they will be back, but bigger venues, something like the Banknorth Garden, or the theater. Or maybe even Tweeter Center or the place in Worcester. Of course, theyve never done South America, so its time they try that...

And of course, theres always buying overpriced tickets....

Oh, something that I just remembered, and may or may not still apply when it comes time for the concert. People who are riding from a Red Line station should be aware that the Red Line is being changed over to the swipe card system like NYC uses; Alewife is already changed over, so they no longer sell tokens there but Kenmore is still tokens and not the cards. So, if you ride the T, it may help you to get your tokens in the morning so you're not standing in line with everyone else at the end of the show to buy them.

Also, if there is a Red Sox playoff game in Boston that night (which is looking less likely this weekend), the Green Line stations in that area will be MOBBED when the game ends, which, OOPS, could be right around the same time the concert ends, if it's a night game. So hope for a day game if there is one. :p

Kenmore should be using tickets by October, although Red Sox crowds might delay the date they instal the new gates. Ill make sure to post here before the concert dates and say if Kenmore is converted or not, so you can buy a 2 ride card on the ride line.

I didn't know that the MBTA was making the transition from tokens to cards. That's good...I much prefer the MetroCard of NYC to the tokens. Too much change to carry around ;) Will every stop on the Green line up to Kenmore have the cards/tokens by October or will it be the big stops only at first (i.e. Kenmore, Park, Gov't Center, etc.)?

Draconian~Nymph
08-20-2006, 06:26 PM
I'm not sure. I think it all SHOULD be ready by October, as they're starting to make the changes now. My mom had to go downtown yesterday, and she had to buy a ticket to get out of Southie, but she couldn't use it to get back. She had to buy a token. So it's still in mid-transition, I guess, but it shouldn't take that long to change all of them.

...Okay...so I feel like a n00b for asking this, but is it a ticket or a card that you'd swipe? I'm confused. A card would make more sense to me...the NJ Transit has tickets and it's not as convenient, IMO. *shrugs*

I believe it's a paper card that you put in the slot at one end of the machine and it spits it out again at the other end, after you walk through the turny-barrier-things. Kind of like they have at Disney....only it's paper. No swiping necessary.

At least, according to my mom. I haven't had to use one on the MBTA yet. :)

RJMas95
08-20-2006, 07:23 PM
Oh no! These "Charlie cards" as they're called are a massive pain. They are so inconsistent and its taken me upwards of 20 swipes to get them to work. I really don't like the T. It smells like pee and you're always guaranteed to meet some interesting folk (which can be fun sometimes). Nevertheless, it is a cheap, easy way to get around Boston.

LuckyStar
08-20-2006, 09:38 PM
I've done the Charlie ticket thing a bunch of times. It's not that hard, but only some stations have converted. The Braintree and Quincy Adams stops on the Red Line have, but most others haven't, including Park Street. There are always cops at the station where you buy the Charlie tickets and they tell you how much to put on them and which stations have converted and such. It's best to always have small bills and change on you for the tokens. Hopefully by the time the concert comes most stations will have gotten rid of the token system and put in the Charlie things.

Hoopyfrood

The cards are in fact a thick paper. The ones that are passes (monthly passes, combo, etc.) will swipe on the old turnstyles just like the plastic cards do now, but the cash passes (the ones that are replacing tokens) will only work at the new electronic turnstyles, which aren't in all stations yet.

/slightly off-topic.

There are two, right now theyre using Charlie Tickets to make the transition easier for monthly pass users. The monthly passes work on old turnstyles and new gates. Theyre swiped at turnstyles, and inseretd at gates.

Single ride tickets only work on the new gates though. On the Green line, Lechmere, Haymarket, Symthony, Prudential, Half of Park, and Boylston have the new gates installed, last I checked. The entire green line (except B and C above ground) should be finished by November, with Gvt Center and Kenmore being the last to change over (Cvt because it has two lines and a small entrance, Kenmore due to red sox fans). You buy a ticket at a machine and insert as much value as you can, so you can use it many times. At the gate, you stick it in and pull it out on top. Its the size of a credit card, but made of paper (laminated if you get a pass from the central office)

At the end of the year, theyll let you buy the Charlie CARD, which doesnt have to be inserted into the machine, you just touch a sensor. Currently, only disabeld users (TAP) have access to this, as its still being tested. This is the much better system, since you wont even have to remove the card from your wallet for it to work.

The entire process is pretty slow, they started over a year ago on the Blue Line.

Note: If you have a token, and are at a ticket station, the ticket vending machine does accept the token at full 1.25 value and give you a ticket. The gate itself only takes the new stuff.

Hope that wasnt too confusing :P

RJMas95, look back a few pages for a full rundown of Avalon.

I figured since so many of you will be in Boston on the 7th, I could tell you some great places to eat before or after the show. I'm not saying they're necessarily near the Avalon, but if you plan ahead, Boston can be easy enough to navigate on the T (if you can deal with the dirtiness and overcrowding, that is;) ).

Jillian's: A huge brick building right on the corner of Ipswich street, this one is close to the Avalon. There is a ton of games, food (its a great place to grab an appetizer and a drink), bowling, and more. There are age restrictions/policies, but I'm not quite sure what they are. I think if you go during the afternoon you should be all set.

PF Chang's: The BEST Chinese food. Either make a reservation or go at an off time, however, as it gets packed. It is sooo good... definately get the "soothing cool lettuce chicken wraps." This is in the Theatre District.

Mother Anna's: Right on the corner as you enter the North End, this is one of the best secrets in Boston. The Italian food is awesome and reasonably priced.

Fire and Ice: A really fun place. It's like a buffet.. you pay once and can go up as many times as you like. It's stir-fry. You pick your vegetables, meats, sauces, etc and they cook it right in front of you. Again, this place can get packed.

Hope this was useful!

I...am just excited. Really really really excited. I tried listening to the other band that's going to be there, but the MySpace was taking FOREVER to load (damn AOL), so I didn't get to. I'll try again later.

And if EvBoarders are meeting up beforehand, I volunteer to bring some food. Because I know that I like to eat mucho, so I'm assuming you guys do, too.

I havent posted here in... years. Last time Evanescence came to the Avalon it was sold out by the time I found out about it, I didn't think it would really bother me but it has eaten away at my soul for the past like 2 years! okay maybe I'm being a little bit dramatic but you get my point.

I just read basically every post on this thread and I got a couple different idea's so I'm conflicted if anyone could PLEASE give me a bit of advice who has been to the Avalon before (I've never been there, but I've been to a handful of Red Sox games... don't worry, there will be no game the night of the show unless some insane comeback occurs :( )

My QUESTION is this, I am from lil' ol' Warwick, Rhode Island. Would it be easier for me (and my Magellan Roadmate Vehicle Navigation System because I couldn't find my way out of a paper bag) to Drive to Boston (leaving here probably around 10:30AM Oct 7) and park somewhere (preferably cheap/free?) and have lunch and dinner somewhere in the area as I wait for the show with my wonderful girlfriend? OR Would it be easier to do this:

There is a major subway station just outside all the mess right on a major highway that you can park at and ride in from. Subway is $1.25 per ride and $5 for parking, and parking out there will make it much easier on you.
Easy directions from your area are to get into Mass on 84, then on to Mass Pike East. Leave Mass Pike for I-95 North. Turn on to Route 2 East, and the subway station has an offramp about 5 miles up.

I only ask because I've never been there, I suck at directions, I've never taken a train or subway.... so yea I'm a pretty sad excuse for a 20 year old (21 by the time of the show) Ev Fan hahaha. ok thanks in advance for all of your help!!! :D

-Matt

p.s. please try to include price ranges or general directions that a monkey might be able to understand because, we're talking about me here. :p

Depending on where, parking in Boston ranges from no better than the $5 (which you're going to walk from) to the outrageous ($25). Money-wise it's probably a wash to park near the place, I'm not sure how many garages there are there or what their prices are on a non-game day, but probably in the $5-$10 range. If you don't mind driving on tiny winding streets then you might be slightly better off doing so. I'm not too familiar with those paved alleyways though so I can't offer much for directions.
The Alewife subway station (that you quoted) might be farther for you than Braintree, though Braintree is more expensive and a longer ride on the Red Line. One thing you might want to look in to, is that you can take a train up from Providence to South Station, then catch the subway there. Not sure how much the Providence train costs, but the schedule is located here (http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_commuterrail_sched.asp?sched_day=Saturda y&line=attleboro&sched_type=Outbound&x=68&y=3) and there is one that runs south at 11:10PM from South Station. You would have to make sure that you left right at the end of the show at 10:00 to be comfortable in getting back to South Station by then, and I'd suggest buying your tickets ahead of time, but that train ride is probably as fast or even faster than driving.

Since it's about a month to the show, send me a pm with what shows you're going to be at (MA, NY or PA Only)

From there, I will compile a list of all the people attending each show and add it to the first post in the threads. After that, I'll set up a chat (one for each show) where we can discuss what is going to be going on and where we're meeting and what not. I will pm all of you the link to the chat room where the discussion is going to be held the night before the chat.

Thanks a bunch for the insight! I am really worried about catching the train/subway after the show, so at this point in time what I have in mind is to drive to Boston, arrive around lunchtime, take my beautiful girlfriend to the nearest vegan or vegetarian friendly restaurante (any tips welcome), then just kind of wait for the most amazing night of my life to begin.

That way after the show I can wait around... probably naively hope to catch a glimpse of the band or something, get my sticked autographed (I would DIE) or whatever, probably wouldn't happen but at least I could let the memories sink in so I'll never forget it.

If you're going to drive, just be careful. Driving's a bitch here, especially downtown with all the J-walkers. And about catching a train afterwards, those can be confusing, IMO. I usually take the bus. They're slower, but make more sense. It would depend on your schedule and where you're parking, though.

TheMatt924
09-03-2006, 02:49 PM
Yeah I'm a little nervous about driving in such a place haha, but I feel like it would be best for me because A) I'm very much concerned about missing the bus/subway/train/whatever after the show and ending up screwed. And B) I just got a handy dandy Vehicle Guidance system (kinda like that "tom tom" thing in the commercials) so I feel like theres no way I could get lost haha. Therefor driving has the edge in my case. All I need to do is find a place to park...

ALSO is it a problem that I'm simply ASSUMING I can find a place to park at like 11AM and not return to my car till like midnight? Am I crazy to be thinking so? Will this cost a lot of money or something? What's the story on parkin?

p.s. My girlfriend (who I will be bringing) is Vegan (meaning she can not consume meat or dairy). Does anyone know of any Vegan (or even Vegetarian) restarauntes in the area? THANKS! :)

Well, considering baseball season will be over, you should have no trouble finding parking. It just depends on where you want to park and how much you want to pay. I've seen garages and parking lots that will make you pay anywhere from $10 to $40 for a full day. You could also find a place with parking meters, which would be less expensive. If you're looking for free parking, you could probably find it, but after A TON of searching. I don't know what the deal is with college parking, but you could always try to sneak in to a school parking lot. Not recommended though.

As a last resort, you could try to find a non-residential parking only part of some of the residential areas, then take the T. But that might be difficult and confusing, so I'd just go with looking around for the cheapest lot you can find close to the Avalon. There's no one place that I can point you to exactly, but you should have no trouble finding a place. :)

I'm no help at all with this kind of stuff, but just to try and attempt answering your question, most restaurants have at least one vegetarian dish. Or she could just order salad. I don't go out to eat around there much, and I'm not vegan, so that's a really tough one for me. But if she's okay with it, you can get tossed salad just about anywhere.

If you really want to drive, the area around Avalon has alot of parking, simply because of the stadium. However, I have no idea on pricing on non game days, usually they charge 25 for parking during the game.

Parking: Yawkey Station/Fenway Parking. Search the MBTA site for directions to Yawkey (its a block from Avalon).
Theres another lot on Commonwealth Avenue, right past Kenmore Square. I dont know if they open past 10pm though.

As for taking the T from Providence. It wont be faster than a car (yeah, the train is sadly slow) but its not hard to do. You wont save much money though for two people, so driving may not be such a bad idea.

Ill make sure to post again closer to the show to see how the parking situation is (and T situation, Kenmore is still on tokens)

As for Vegan resteraunts...no idea. There are many places near Avalon, but they cater to sports fans, and you know how sports fans like their meat. Not being able to eat dairy makes it even harder, since that cuts out pizza Id think.

TheMatt924
09-03-2006, 05:00 PM
Indeed... pizza is usually a no-no for vegans since no-cheese pizza usually SUCKS. lol. Well, since I wouldn't really be saving any money via the train or subway with two people, I suppose driving is the way to go for me. Thank you so much for your advice on parking and even trying to help with the Vegan issue!! I love my fellow Evanescence fans, so darn nice.

I'll continue to check in... probably like every day until the concert haha, in case anyone has any breakthrough advice on restaurants or (more likely) hot parking tips (aka cheap for however long  ).

Hiya all. New to the boards, but I'm in something of a weird situation. You see, as you might have guessed, I'm a huge Evanescence fan. I was at both of the previous Avalon shows over the last few years. When I heard they were going to be playing at Avalon again I knew I had to find some way to go. Well, I completely missed out on the pre-sale and the regular sale, but I am nothing if not tenacious. Several nights of cheap ticket hunting landed me nothing, so I did what any rabid fan would do. I bought not so cheap tickets. That should have been the end of the story, right? Well, that's what I thought, but fate had other ideas. About 3 days after I bought my tickets, I recieved an e-mail from Ebay saying I had won ANOTHER SET OF TICKETS!!! You see, I had only been high bidder by about $0.10 or so, so I figured they were a lost cause. Apparently no one was paying attention or something, but long story short, I have 2 tickets to the October 7th show that I'm looking to sell. Rather than sell them on ebay to any Joe-Schmoe, I figured I'd let you guys have first crack at them. I'd much rather they go to some real fans first. Now, here's the less than great part. I have to at least make back my costs, so I can't let them go for less than $80 per ticket. Though since having them go together makes my life easier, I would be willing to sell them as a pair for $150. No shipping or any of that foolishness. You're not likely to find them cheaper I'm afraid (I know. I've looked.).

So that's my tale. Anyone who'e interested should send me a PM or an e-mail before September 17th. After that they go up on ebay. Thanks for letting me ramble.

Well, up in the North, we call that place "the store".

(Sorry, couldn't resist that one! I don't know where one is in downtown Boston, Katya might have a better idea where one is, but Stop & Shop carries a lot of buttercreme stuff in their bakery. Um the only place nearby that I know of is Shaws. And a few scattered Campus Convenience stores, but they don't have a bakery. That's a few rides down the T from Kenmore...Blandford, BU East, Central, West, St. Paul Street, Pleasant Street and then I think the Corner is the right one...*not sure on that one*

If you all are that desperate, I'll take a ride down to Shaws the night before and see if they have them. If they do, I'll buy a box or two. ;) Buttercream cupcakes with chocolate frosting and gothic spider sprinkles?

lol, Of course. The sprinkles are a must! :p I haven't had buttercream anything either. I read a post somewhere on here saying buttercream was only common in the South for whatever reason, and I didn't want to drive down to Georgia. Also, thedarksun... in the Happy Cupcake Sprinkly Funland- the album thread said she has a recipe. If they don't have them at Shaws, I'll bug her for it. :p ;)

I'd just like to take this time to say that on my last day of school last year, we had cupcakes in Latin class. Mine had a frosting-spider on it (not sprinkles, but I'll take what I can get). I took a picture, and it's somewhere on my computer. T'was very yummyful indeed.

Theres a bigger Shaw's in Copley, right by the Pru.

The closest supermarket to Avalon though is probably the Star Market (owned By Shaws) near the Landmark Center. Forgot the name of the road...its near a Burger King. Easy walking distance (not that the Shaw's at Copley is far).

Theres also the 7-11 and Store 24 right on Kenmroe Square.

Sorry, but while I know my way around Boston, I have no idea what cupcakes you guys are talking about.

We're just being dorky Amy-groupies. ;)

I don't know how much I have to educate you about, so here goes the whole story. :: picks up fairy tale book, puts on magical story-time reading glasses::

Amy had been saying that the album would be a little happier, so people were worried about a "happy" Evanescence. In a joking response, Amy made the "Happy cupcake sprinkly funland-the album!" (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=32362) thread, talking about TOD and insisting that it's not all happiness and smiles. So people thought the "cupcake" part of "Happy cupcake sprinkly funland-the album!" was funny, and started debating on what kinds of cupcakes were awesome enough to be classified as "happy" cupcakes. So, Amy jumps back into the thread with:

no way! buttercream cupcakes are the bomb. -er- with horrible gothic spider sprinkles that is...

Now, according to www.dictionary.com, "buttercream" is:

a vanilla-flavored cake frosting or filling made principally of softened butter and powdered sugar.

So now, in order to be proper obsessive Evboarders with odd senses of humour, we must eat these cupcakes at this special, once-in-a-lifetime event.

...Finis.

Edit: Wait, how long will we be waiting in line?

Edit2: Dude that was my 500th post! YAY! ::does now-officially-a-Senior-Member-after-only-a-few-months-because-I'm-such-a-postwh0re-like-that dance, while throwing banana-shaped confettii::

I have portable speakers! :D They're slightly chunky and you need to plug them into an outlet....I think. Hmmmm, I'll have to ask my mom to bring them home so I can play with them. I think they might work if I can plug the soundbox straight into my ipod and pretend they're headphones. I don't know.

I never knew you had to wait in line so long. Brian goes to a lot of concerts so maybe he won't be as shocked as I am (heh, I haven't talked to him properly for about a year , but he likes Ev). I had no idea. I'm up for it, though. Anything for Ev. :p

Let's just put it this way: If the Canadians line up at ungodly hours of the morning for their concerts, which are the only ones before ours, (i.e. 7 AM) then so will I...if they get there later, then I will, too. I don't want to hang out by myself for 293847290 hours, though :(

Outlets = no good. Speakers need to run just with the player if possible; we'll be outside the whole time lol. And if said speaker(s) has a headphone jack, then it should work with my Zen just fine. :) I'll put TOD on there, as well as some of the other music that I have neglected to stick there (i.e. Blind Guardian, some of my older Nightwish).

I"ll let you guys know about the toronto concert that night...I'm not even sure how early I'm going to line up! but for boston I know I wont be there early at all...considering I'm leaving montreal early that day and it takes 6 hours to get to boston:p hopefully I don't get lost!!

I'll try to get there as early as I can. If I can't make 7 (I might have swordfighting...I don't know my schedule yet), I'll come as early as I can.

And...I was wondering if sometime before the 7th, everyone could post their REAL name (first only) so we don't have to call each other by our usernames. I know we'll probably be introducing ourselves anyway, but just for the hell of it, I'm Sarah. :)

And Katya, this has been bugging me for the past 3 days. How the HELL do you pronounce Katya? Is it Katy-a, Kat-ya, or what? :p It's weird, but that's been driving me insane. :D

I will answer to Katya, but my real name is Katy. Either one will work for me, though :)

Katya = Kaht-yuh or Kat-yuh. It's Russian for 'Katherine', actually, though I didn't know that when I adopted it as my Internet alias lol.

Katya, my little speaker runs on an internal lithium battery. I'll just remember to charge it the night before.

Draconian~Nymph, my real name is Laura, but I use Rory as well.

I think it might be a good idea to post instant messenger handles, if you're going to the concert, for getting-to-know-you purposes, and things like that?

Oooh you is a smart one you is! :D  :D

I only have AIM, and it's PrincessSB11. My email is also PrincessSB11@aol.com

...And I desperately need to get a new one because I got that one when I was 12, and it's just embarrassing at this point. :p Of course, I can always stand by my argument that "Sarah" is Hebrew for Princess, but it still feels stupid. /rant

Oh, and if you want, I'd go by Draconian, too. I love that word. Before I joined here, I got it printed as my name on the back of a club T-shirt. ;)

I'm such a smileywh0re.

My tickets came today!!!!!!!! YAY! :D

However...BOSTON ROCKS. :D

Yes it does!!

For all of us who can't attend, there is a way. All we have to do…… is keep supporting them so that they'll come back and we can see them then!

lol I had assumed that it was a nickname from a relative that you picked up along the way. It's funny that you picked it without knowing. :)

Greyhound maintains a full station at South Station in Boston. The Red Line goes through there, so you can take the Red Line two stops towards Alewife to the Park Street station, then change to the Green Line out to Kenmore station which is the stop to use for the Avalon.

Actually, my friend started calling me that like six years ago...see, my first screen name was katyo[insert numbers here], which was katy o = my first name and last initial. But people in game rooms thought it was kat yo. And she thought it was funny, so she called me Katya. Then we found out it was an actual name...haha but I liked it, so I kept it.

/random story of the day.

So uh...Boston. Yes. Haha I'll be walking to the Avalon with my roommate, probably a week before, so that I can gauge the time and distance in terms of walking distances. I'll report back, for those of you who are planning on walking from Kenmore (my dorm is smack next to Kenmore). :)

Those stops I listed are for the subway system in Boston. Once you get to South Station on the bus, then you follow those directions on the subway to get to Kenmore and the Avalon. Because the Red Line and the Green Line do cross, your trip on the subway system should be mostly painless. Your only concern will be to ensure that you take a B, C, or D Green Line train when you get to Park Street. The trains are labeled though so you just need to look at the train to know which it is.

Just to add to that, when you get to South Station on your bus, you need to make your way to the train station, although Im sure there are many signs. Im not sure if the walkway between the bus area and train area is complete.

Once inside the South Station train area, youll see stairs leading down to the subway area, where the Red line and Silver lines are. From there its easy. Red line north, and then green line outbound.

South Station uses tickets, and kenmore uses tokens (at this time), so unless you plan on coming to Boston again soon, just buy one ride at the south station ticket machines.

Er, random small question: what size bag should I bring? I'm gonna need something to hold my stuff (especially for several hours of standing in line), but I don't wanna risk getting anything stolen either.

Go small. Just remember that you'll have to deal with carrying it in the mosh pit. I would go for something you can clip around your waist or a purse with a long strap. I go for the latter, and just make sure to drape it over my shoulder diagonally so there's no chance of it falling off or anyone taking it. It usually ends up leaving a mark right where my neck and shoulder join since there's pressure on it, but c'est la vie. My crap is safe. ;)

I'm going too. But I'm not bringing anything that I can't fit in my pocket. I think it'd be too risky, and a bag would probably just get in the way.
But that's just me.

Avalon does have a coat check, but I wouldn't trust it. They lost my favorite coat the last time I was there. They did find it eventually, but it wasn't until like a month later.

If you don't mind my asking, what style do you study?

Oh really? I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads-up! ::makes note to self to only bring coat/sweatshirt if completely necessary::

Right now I'm finishing up fundamentals, but I'm going to go for longsword, dagger, staff and rapier as soon as possible. It's kind of funny, because I wanted to sign up, then my mom decided she wanted to try it too. Luckily, there are mostly adults in the class so it's not as awkward. So, every Saturday, I get to swing wooden-practice swords at my mother and complete strangers. :p

Just for the hell of it, if anyone else in the area wants to check it out (it's really fun!) http://www.higgins.org/Calendar/swordguild.shtml

Bring a sweatshirt, by all means. Just tie it around your waist once you get inside. Trust me; you won't want to be waiting for 10+ hours without a sweatshirt/sweater/jacket (unless God loves us that day and gives us gorgeous 65+ degree weather lol). ;)

Swordfighting sounds awesome. I think I'd like to try that sometime :) I'd also like to learn some type of martial arts, but BU has classes I can take for that. :)
