I just started playing guitar and was wondering if anyone could play this song on guitar
I originally tried it in "F", but now I think it is "F#"
So now I was wondering if there was anyone out there that knew the tabs/chords for this song cuz I'm all confused
I tried looking on line but the one I found didnt help me
I'm thinking the chorus is:
F(barre) C Bb
My only hope, my only peace
C Bb F(barre)
My only joy, my only strength
C Bb
My only power, my only life
F(barre)-Drop 6th String
My only love
but as I was saying I think it's up a half-step
Any tips/tricks to playing this song (yes I know there are 2 guitars in it) would be GREATLY appreciated
thanks a lot

There's some good tabs at www.ultimate-guitar.com
especially the 4th one... and I'm pretty sure the song's in Drop D... I was just trying to figure this song out today actually :)

October
I can't run anymore,
I fall before you,
Here I am,
I have nothing left,
Though I've tried to forget,
You're all that I am,
Take me home,
I'm through fighting it,
Broken,
Lifeless,
I give up,
You're my only strength,
Without you,
I can't go on,
Anymore,
Ever again.
My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.
I can't run anymore,
I give myself to you,
I'm sorry,
I'm sorry,
In all my bitterness,
I ignored,
All that's real and true,
All I need is you,
When night falls on me,
I'll not close my eyes,
I'm too alive,
And you're too strong,
I can't lie anymore,
I fall down before you,
I'm sorry,
I'm sorry.
My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.
Constantly ignoring,
The pain consuming me,
But this time it's cut too deep,
I'll never stray again.
My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love,
My only hope,
(All the times I've tried)
My only peace,
(To walk away from you)
My only joy,
My only strength,
(I fall into your abounding grace)
My only power,
My only life,
(And love is where I am)
My only love.

Why is the name of the song October? There is no word 'October' in the song lyrics. Have you got an idea?

I'm thinking it could be an emotional connection to what the song was written about. Or how the month makes them feel. October is a turning point for most places where Autumn begins. ANd the song does speak of a turning point in a relationship. So, I guess that could be an explanation. You'd probably have to ask Ben if you want to know exactly why it's called October.

Well, me being a Christian, I tend to stray from God. The lyrics of this song just sounds like maybe she's realizing that she's straying and it's hurt her more than she knew. I don't know, I'm a big Christian so...that's just what I got out of it!

I highly doubt that it was written with That idea in mind. Not saying it can't apply to the song. Songs are open to any ideas. But I think, since Ben wrote it, It's more a romantic song.

October has to be one of my favourite songs by evanescence!!! It reminds me of my boyfriend, whose birthday is in october!!! I think evanescences songs are good because you can bring your own meaning to them!! So if you believe its a christian song thats what it means to you!!! Personally I think its a love song, someone realising that they can't live without someone!!!

Ok, well, at first I didn't see it as a love song, but not too long ago, I had a bad break-up. We're back together, but that little unwanted break that I had from him really changed my outlook on this song. So, I see it more as a love song than a Christian one.

You didn't hear anything religious in the lyrics?
"I fall into your abounding grace"
"I fall before you"
"When night falls on me
I'll not close my eyes
I'm too alive
And you're too strong"
"I fall down before you,
I'm sorry,
I'm sorry."
"Constantly ignoring,
The pain consuming me,
But this time it's cut too deep,
I'll never stray again."
I would say that it is most definitely a song to some sort of higher deity. I don't know too many people that say they fall into someone else's "abounding grace."

Guys! It doesn't matter if this song's really about religion or not. You think it is? Then it IS. You think it's just about love? Then it IS about love. The band says we can see in their lyrics what we want to. It isn't necessary to start a dispute in this thread :)

"I fall into your abounding grace"
I agree With Lisa here..
"I Fall Into Your Abounding Grace" If you had a bad experience when you left someone that treated you wonderful and then they took you back, You'd Definatley find it as an Abounding Grace. But you could also look at it as in there's a higher power.
It can work Either way. Can we please stop arguing before the Mods come in here and shut everything down?

Hey it's right it may seem christian... but I don't think so. Amy Lee said once that she believes in God but the music she makes is nothing to do with God... I understand that you think that about it but I really don't think so. I guess it's a love song, of a very big love. I understand its feelings as many persons here. When you're someone who gives up completly to someone's company/love/friendship you feel the deepest and strongest things ever, I've felt what that songs sais once. And yes "abounding grace"... when you're in love everything about that person is "sacred to you" :). So I'm sure it's not christian, it seems but... as already said, I think Amy makes her music completly out of her God's beliefs... It's the strongest love song I've heart. So beautiful...

I absolutely adore this song, it is so moving and romantic and sweet! I find that "Origin" has a lot of love songs on it! I wonder what happened to make them die out? I much prefer the softer songs that compliment her voice! (not that I don't like all of the other songs, I just find these very soothing and a lot nicer sounding)

But i agree that it could be used for anything, which is whats so great about this song!

In my own personal expierience I'm relating to it as a Christian song. Because I relate to it so well, as I am a christian and have strayed so many times and now have gone back and never been so happy in my life.
And isn't Ben a christian? I thought so by his thankyou column in Fallen.
Just because I'm saying this doesn't mean I'm arguing, so don't get all paranoid on me.

I see the song as being about loving so much that you're almost obsessed, but not quite, and that this love has helped you realize your life. If that makes any sense...:)
Anyway, I think the title October definately makes sense. Just when you listen to the intro with the acoustic guitar playing (by the way October is one of my favorite songs to play on guitar. I just love the way it sounds!!) and you can just see the trees turning orange and everything... I don't know, the music just sounds to me like October, it makes me think of leaves.
I love Ev's acoustic songs, I think they tend to show off Amy's voice the best.

I agree with you 100%.
As for the song, I think its about love. I could almost consider this to be a great wedding song, except for the fact that a few lyrics are that appropiate for a wedding. But who knows, I would assume to be in a relationship with someone for a long time before marriage, so maybe this fits perfect, as its more like the relationship has had its twists and turns, but you've finally realized you cant live without this person.
I also can see the connection with the title. I immediately think of fall when I hear this song. Don't know why, just do.
I absolutely love Amy's voice in this song.
Ah, Evanescence.
Just so wonderful.

This is an amazing song. I've sang it so many times in public. I sang it for 2 school events. i took this song as a christian song so i sang it in church once too. and i also played the guitar to it.. Before i even sang this song for my choir director just explaining it to her {my interpretation {{sp?}}} made her cry so when i was singing it in church she was like bawling lol. If i ever do sing it again in chuch i want the choir to sing the backup vocals on the chorus. {the "all the times i've tried" part} i just think it would sound cool.

October always seemed to me like it was one of their most "Christian" or "religious" songs...
I can't run anymore
I fall down before you
Here I am
I have nothing left
it all just strikes me as she is presenting herself before God, and letting her life fall into His hands...I love this song and it has a lot of meaning to me

I can see it both ways. I understand how it can seem religious and all...and I also see how it could just be a dramatic love song. Personally, I think it's just a love song even though I'm a Christian myself.
:p I also think it's a bit ironic, since The Open Door comes out in October...unless you live in Australia!

its funny you say that...i've always dreamed that amy would perform at my wedding...well, if gay marriages are ever legalized and if amy supports it...dont know how she stands on this issue...but i always wanted october or forgive me with like you said some small lyric modifications to fit a wedding...or me and her can write an original together...haha...i wish

I completely agree with you. I think this is one of the most Christian songs I have heard. But the way I see it is that (s)he hasn't been so religious lately and (s)he wants to find God again. (S)he feels she has strayed away from Him, is sorry and wants his acceptance and love again.
"In all my bitterness, I've ignored all that's real and true. All I need is you."
"I fall into your abounding grace"
I love this song so much and like you said, it has a lot of meaning to me, too. It has inspired me in a way to become closer to God.
Sorry for spreading religion around...heh.
I've also seen that other people have thought this way, too. (Eh...I just read through it all. I apologize, again.)

This song is so soulful and peaceful, whenever I listen to it, I'm transported to a place where nothing more exists... it's like beeing nowhere, with no one, and with nothing in your mind... it's very refreshing...
(my god the last part sounded like thoses little sentences on a DVD cover ''A refreshing comedy'' - the New York Post...)

speaking of re recording things, what do you think now of the song "october",
personally i think as one of your old songs i think it deserves much more recognition than it gets by fans of the old stuff now. i would consider it to be a work of art. not a song, (personal oppinion) thoughts??? anyone???
speaking of recognition? has anybody heard a song called centre aisle by caedmons call. i cant really describe it, but its heaps mellow and i think everyone should give it a go.
again? thought? lol.
it deserves more attention than it gets unfortunately, the same with a song called goodbye by plankeye, i dont know weather its big anywhere, here in australia its not even been noticed. i hate that

I don't hear anything religious in the lyrics. How did you guess this assumption?
I think that may have been got from the abounding grace part and how she's talking about he can take her home she's tired of fighting, [[This Part]My only hope [All the times I've tried]
My only peace [To walk away from you]
My only joy, my only strength,
My only power [I fall into your abounding grace]
My only life [And love is where I am]
My only love] I think that if you listen to it with that mind set it will sound like it, but I kinda think it's up to the person, how they interpit it, it could be religious or could not be. I take it both ways, But mostly as a love song....at the moment this is my favorite ev song, give it a few days it will be something else but anyways, it could be both....:words:
