Whenever I watch a DVD with PowerDVD 4 OR Windows Media Player, it makes very strange noises. It sounds kind of like a beeping (sample: http://www.geocities.com/downunder567/DVDnoise.mp3 ), and it does it to any DVD I try to play. Also, when I watch a movie that's MPEG encoded, it sounds kind of scratchy/clicky (sample: http://www.geocities.com/downunder567/MPEGnoise.mp3 ). It also makes this sound when playing Halo. (Please excuse any jumps in the audio, I don't know why it did that. Also, please excuse the distorted audio in the MPEG sample, but its the clicking/scratching you want anyway...You just might want to turn your volume down if you listen to it)
I built my PC a few weeks ago, and it's been doing this the whole time. I've reinstalled the system/audio drivers several times, and I still have to get back to a guy I talked to about it. I know it's not hardware, because my MP3's, audio CD playback, WMA's and WMV's, MOV's, AVI's (DivX movies) and the old Star Wars: Rouge Squadron are all fine. We were thinking it may be a codec problem (WinXP lists a bunch of different codecs under "Audio Devices" in Device Manager), but I have no idea how I would fix that. My specs are as follows:
DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B (nVidia nForce 2 Ultra 400 Chipset, built-in 5.1 audio, latest drivers)
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1GB RAM
120GB HDD
80GB HDD
Sony DRU710A Double Layer DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW/CD-RW
Logitech 540-Z Speakers
Geforce XFX 5700 128MB AGP 8X (latest drivers)
Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2
Windows Media Player 10
PowerDVD 4
I tried E-Mailing DFI (nVidia doesn't offer tech support because they don't directly sell products) and they never replied. Like I said, I still have to get back to this guy, but he wasn't sure if he could help. If any of you could help me out, I would really appreciate it!
