View Full Version : Paid Subscription activation

I just recently signed up as a paid subscriber with paypal yet nothing has changed on my account. When I had finished my payment it said something along the lines of click here to view your subscription. Can't remember exactly what it said. So my real question is, do I have to wait for someone to activate my subscribed account? I've just paid $26 for a year and I have no idea where I'm heading next with being a paid subscriber.
I apologise if theres already a thread like this. I did look for one so don't flame me. I'm just really worried as I just forked out a fair bit of money and I don't have my purchase.

I think if you're not in the U.S. it takes a bit longer to get activated. Just be patient, i'm sure you'll be a smurf soon. :)

You paid via check, which means that Paypal has to clear the transaction before it can process your subscription. As soon as your bank clears the check, your subscription will take effect immediately after. This can take 3-5 business days to happen though, so be patient. The best bet is to pay via credit card so you get that instant gratification you are craving.

I'm a bit worried now. If I don't have it by the end of tonight I wont be happy. I don't fancy having to yell at someone:confused:

edits* Okay thanks for the info toB. I didn't pay by credit card as I don't have one. I'd just get into debt :P

Oh right. Do you know as to why it's taking so long? Is it due to me being from the uk or something and having to convert the money?
Thanks for the info though tob I appreciate you doing that.

I don't know...It usually takes a long time for people's checks to clear regardless. This is why it's better to use a credit/debit card.

That's true. I'll just sit tight and wait, I appreciate the info :)

The reason for having this paid subscription is obviously because it's ...kinda for my favourite band and not only that.... I need to change my childish screen name :p !

Hence why I'm being impatient lol. But like I say, I shall shutup and be patient :)

Being a PS doesn't allow you to change your screenname anymore. The only way to do that is to get a moderator (or ToB) to do it for you. If you want your SN changed PM me with that you want it changed to.

You may find better results asking me or Diamon (or really anyone other than ToB) to assist you with a name change. http://dhammaseeker.com/smileys/wink.gif

To be honest I'm not sure if the activation is an automatic or manual process. But seeing as ToB is the only one who can see his paypal account, he is the only one that can verify that the transaction has cleared. If the transaction has supposedly cleared and the subscription hasn't shown up yet the best than can be done is PM'ing ToB and putting soemthing like "Paid Subscription problem" in the subject. Just keep in mind though that just because paypal has mad the withdrawal from one account doesn't mean they've deposited it into ToB's account yet. Especially if it is a transfer from a bank account instead of a credit card.

Thinking of it like that is scary. If it's out of my bank but not in tob's account then that's a big oh ...sh*t. I woould be pretty upset if that was the case. Though I'm gona wait it out till Monday and see what happens.
I didn't know that moderators could change screen names, I thought it was only admins. To save hassling tob, I will pm one of you guys when I fancy the change when I'm a paid subscriber ;)

yes you will get an email when the echeck has cleared, and the money has transfered to ben's account

I know when I got my subscription, it was automatic after I paid. But I paid with automatic transfer.
You can also check your paypal status and see what it says there. It should say if the check has cleared or something to that effect. In your account info.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A PAID SUBSCRIPTION, YOU NEED TO PM ToB. Posting in this thread will do you no good, and it will only serve to annoy me.

Just thought I'd drop by and show you that the cheque has cleared now, I remember Ben saying it should make me a paid member when I've paid succesfully, though I may be wrong. If someone has to activate me as a paid member that makes more sense. To show that I have paid, I screencapped my paypal page saying it's cleared. I'm not trying to go on, I don't intend to pi*s people off over this it's just the fact that my own hard earned money is flying here to there and I just like to have the reassurence that I'll be getting what I paid for soon :)

Notwithstanding the fact that ToB has been off the grid since 1/4/06, please send him a private message with this information so he will be sure to see it when he returns. Thanks! http://dhammaseeker.com/smileys/smile2.gif

We (the moderators) would help you if we could, but ToB is the only one responsible for the paid subscriber accounts.

Oh right. I thought mods may be able to make me a paid subscriber but then again how would they know I've paid. silly me. Thanks for all the help. I'll just message ben and hope I don't have to come to this thread ...ever again! :p

Looks like there was a problem with PayPal notifying the board software of a check clearing. Just another example of why you should use a debit/credit card. ;)

Am I supposed to lose my rep points when I become a paid subscriber? I know people say rep point mean nothing etc but with the amount of posts I have and how much I come on this board I don't want people to get the wrong impression of me. I had 3 green squares...which was something like 280...something points. Will I get them back at all?

Thanks for all your help Tob. I just thought I'd ask about rep points in this thread rather than flooding tob with a pointless pm :)

The option to "display reputation" was turned off in your profile. Perhaps a glitch in the process of activating your paid subscription. I've turned it back on for you.

And with that, I believe the raison d'etre for this thread has left the building. http://dhammaseeker.com/smileys/smile2.gif
