I never used PSP, but i have a program called photoshop elements 2.0
I love it to bits, and the best thing about it is its only £70, and it has ALOT of what the £600 version has (well the stuff you need which is quite alot). I love modding cars on ps. I have had some of my ps efforts in performanceBMW magazine.
I recomend PS elements 2.0! but i haven't tried PSP

From what I hear PS Elements is almost like photoshop, but costs much much less.
Photoshop is probably the better program, but I think most people would tell you to get PSP because it's easier to use.

I've used Paint Shop Pro, PhotoShop, and PhotoShot Elements.
If I never used Photoshop 7 before I used Elements, then maybe I would like it better....but I'm spoiled by regular PS...so I can't stand Elements. Personally, I like PaintShop Pro 7/8 more that Photoshop Elements, but if you've never used Photoshop 6/7 then Elements might be the thing for you ;) Naturally, Photoshop 7 is the best of the 3, but yeah, its like 600 bucks. And there are certain effects that you can do better in PaintShop Pro over both Photoshop applications. As far as PSP being easier to use...they're both about the same. They have different features so the experience is different (if that makes any sense). I would say go for the PaintShop program and if you haven't tried it out, you can download the trial version from Jasc.com (I think it has almost everything except one or two filters).
And yeah, you can use regular paint brushes like in paint and SO MUCH MORE!!! :)

I have PSP7 I think that it's a very good program (I'v found alot of different uses for it) Bear in mind that quality-wise it might be a little lower quality than Photoshop (but not much) and I find it to be much more user-friendly than Photoshop.

Photoshop is way better than Paint Shop. Especially the latest version, which i use.

I definitely swear by Photoshop, but then again I've been using it for 10 years, so I'm a little biased. I've used PSP briefly though and it certainly has come a long way. It's a good program to begin with, rather than jumping into something with a tougher learning curve like Photoshop.

I've tried both Paintshop Pro, whatever version it was, and Photoshop 7, which I use all the time. I actually like Photoshop over Paintshop Pro.

I use PSP7, I love how it blends vector/raster without all the bullshit GUI and gimmicks. Give me pixels or give me death.

i have an idea for you, if you want, you can download a trial version of psp8 here (http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp?) and try it out first. This is what i did to decide if it was worth buying or not.
Myself, I prefer adobe photoshop over psp because I got used to using photoshop in my digital art vlass last year, but it is insanely expensive. Dont get me wrong, psp is still a good program..its just a matter of preference.

If u want a really cheap alterative there is GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). Its a free download, and can run photoshop plug-ins. Its comfusing to get into as it started as a Linux App, but it can most of what photoshop can.
Though it would take a lot to drag me away from photoshop. PSP has the edge over Elements. But that might just be because Elements drives me mad when I want to find things that are in the full version.

Well, the start with I was using Ulead Photo Express 3.0, it came with our computer. Switched to PSP7, loved it. Now I have PSP8.
I used PS a lot at school in my web design class, and if I had the money I would buy it.
If you can't afford PS, go for PSP8.
Another reason why I love PSP, Animation Shop 3. It comes with PSP8.

I have PSP 8, its great it took me like five months to work out how to do most stuff though but then I had never used a graphics program before and I never read the really fat manual that came with it! Don't read manuals, never will!
Anyways its great I got animation shop with it also, thats fun to mess around on...not good at animations yet though! I looked at PSP 7 at school the other and couldn't understand how to use it at all I thought they would be almost the same, but they didn't appear to be everything seems to be in different places, couldn't work out how to use it :?

hate to revive SUCH an old thread but anyway..
ive grown an unnatural urge to make my own images and stuff, so i downloaded PSP 8 (trial version) but i have absolutely no idea how to use it. so i was just wondering if anyone knew of a simple tutorial (i mean REALLY simple. i dont even know how to put two separate images together yet  ) so i could learn how to do things step by step?
and if anyone was wondering, ive gone with PSP because a lot of people have said that its easier than Photoshop..

I have psp 8.. the full version. I got it as a grad present. heh.
It's a very good program.. It just has so many components you haveto know what you're doing. It is really good for photo editing and other graphic stuff. But yeah, I would totally suggest getting it.

I use PSP5. Nice and simple :D (Also, I got it free with a magazine)
I have 7 too, but it seems a little complicated in comparison.
I find any kind of photo editing tutorials hard to follow.
What I did was messed around until I found my own way of doing things.
