Well, following on from the success of the past month cd purchases thread, I thought it would be nice to have a thread for us bookworms:cool:. (I believe this hasn't been done already, sorry if it has).

Anyway, here's mine:

A Game of Thrones - Book one of a Song of Fire and Ice.
The Gunslinger - Book one of the Dark Tower.

I bought Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy last weekend. Read the first book, wasn't bad. Going to start book 2 this weekend.

I also purchased Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I've been told it's a great book. The sequel was released about a week ago.

More like two months ago...and downloaded...but yeah.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

And the book before I binged on Harry was:

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams

I bought Yes Man by Danny Wallace a while ago. Well I say bought. My brother got it and I nicked it off him. I think he's doing a TV series at the moment where he tries to makes his flat a country. It's on the same time as lost so I never see it though.

Anyhoo, I think it's a really interesting book. The basic premise of it is he realises he's been to negative so he decides to say yes to everything. So he ends up ordering stuff off the internet, taking leaflets from everyone, going to spain. If you like books by Dave Gorman you'll prbably like this too. :)

Hmm...interesting...

Thus far, including august:

The Fuck-Up by Arthur Neressian- s'pretty funny and good too!

The Horla by Guy de Maupassant- This is a series of three short stories comprising the characters descent into madness. Interesting because not long after the author himself was admitted to a mental asylum

Thats about it, am going to Barnes and Noble later...see what I can find. I need to get the new Orson Scott Card book, and I cant wait for Neil Gaimans new one.

Hm, I read an average of a book per month. I can read more if I find books that really catch my eye - I'm picky.

Last I've read or am reading are:
HP and T Half Blooded prince,
The Dark Mirror, by Julliet Marillier (a MUST read for people who like fantasy. IMHO, better than Marion ZB, though unfortunately, becoming a bit repetitive on how the story unfolds)
Hawkmistress, by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Eldest (sequel to Eragon).

Beginning.

I just bought Rebel Angels, by Libba Bray, and The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares today.

Eldest-Christopher Paolini
Falcondance-Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Inkspell-Cornelia Funke
High Rhulain-Brian Jacques
Wizards At War-Diane Duane

I'm also gonna get the Book #12 of Series of Unfortunate Events, which comes out October 18! Yay! :p

Floating Lily
10-16-2005, 04:16 PM
Dragon Rider- Cornelia Funke
Howl's Moving Castle- Diana Wynne Jones

I got Dragon Rider because Ms Funke is just a blow-you-away-with-one-puff writer, and it was translated to english wonderfully, it's amazing they didn't ruin it when translating.
And I saw an advertisement about Howl's Moving Castle as a film, and I wanted to read the book before I wanted to see the film. It was a good decision.:p

I feel so stupid, I'm having problems reading Eragon, I read in a few pages and got bored. And I don't feel like going back, it just didn't pull me in after the elves bit at the start.

The Penguin History of the USA by Hugh Brogan
The American West by Dee Brown
Nineteenth Century Britain 1815-1914 by Anthony Wood
The Persuit of History by John Tosh

Last Sunday, I bought Go Ask Alice. It's an annymous diary of a girl who gets mixed up in drugs and how her life spins out of control. It's very dark, but it's a good book.

welcome to college..it only gets worse in the spending from there

Well, I'm going to school pretty much for free, so if I'm only spending a thousand on a deposit and laptop with a couple hundred for books, I'm not complaining (13k/year scholarship and a 15k/year grant...I got lucky).
