Ok well, I'll never be buying that many cds at once as I would never have enough money.
However this month I have bought - The Distillers - Coral Fang

Haha, thanks :D

Yeah, I listen to rap, R&B, soul, funk, jazz, reggae, dance hall, rock, alternative, some pop, some classical, techno...mostly those genres. I used to have a vast knowledge in the country genre as well, but that was around '96. Good times :D Own an album of every genre but funk, pop, and country I think, haha...got country tapes tho.

Bob Marley - Legend is a good album. It usually goes for about $10 now. I've yet to find the album with Smoke Two Joints tho...

And the string quartet tribute wasn't worth the $16, in my opinion. Too expensive and it got old in a day or two. Granted that it was good but it just made me want to listen to Fallen again.

I finally caught up with CDs I've been planning to buy all along. Some of these I might have bought in Sept, but I'm pretty sure most of them I bought in November.

* denotes a cd that actually took me this long to find because the CD stores around here blow that much.

*Portishead - "Dummy"
Tori Amos - "Tales of A Librarian: A Tori Amos Collection"
*Tori Amos - "Under the Pink"
Radiohead - "Hail to the Theif"
*Radiohead - "The Bends"
MTV2 Headbangers Ball
Otep - "Jihad EP"
Live - "Throwing Copper"
Live - "Birds of Prey"
Fiona Apple - "Tidal"

(the sad thing is, I've been wanting that CD ('Tidal') since it came out, and it just took me this long to get it. 'When the Pawn...' is just as amazing. If you have & love 'Tidal' and not 'When the Pawn...", you really need to go buy it. They both are essential CDs in any CD collection)

Legend is an amazing album! I've been looking for Smoke Two Joints too, but even his official site doesn't show him singing it...Whoever sang it, I really dig Sublimes version :D

Yeah, yesterday morning, Best Buy had all its 20th Century Masters albums on sale for $4.99 (originally $9.99)...including Sublime. I got my X-Men Collection DVD, went in line...and just put it back on the shelf and fuckin left. Way too many peoples so I went to the mall. Came back later, got a phone call, had to meet someone somewhere else, put down my X-Men copy again...yeah...third time, I got it  but anyway, I saw the Smoke Two Joints one on Sublime's "album"...I've yet to hear it tho.

It is Marley, but I can't find which album the song's on. I've looked at like a dozen albums at least too :?

axeslinger0u812
11-29-2003, 04:51 PM
Sublimes version is great! I've heard a lot of Marley, living in Hawaii, and I know a friend of mine had Smoke Two Joints from Bob, now that I think of it, so I e-mailed him, and he has yet to respond, so if he does, I;ll see if he burned it, or what album its from. :D

Cyra
11-29-2003, 05:38 PM
Yeah, I like how Sublime has that reggae vibe in their songs. I've only heard a few songs tho...like two I think...I'll have to download their cover of Smoke Two Joints...see if it's good enough to buy one of their albums :) I'm sure it is, but I just haven't got around to getting an album of theirs yet...or hearing much by them.

Good luck finding which album it's on by the way

Speaking of albums purchased this month, I just got my Diverse album in the mail today from Amazon.com. I've checked a lot of local stores, and big retail ones that carry underground rap artists, and they didn't have Diverse :? the only album even close to Diverse that they got is the Wylin' Out single with Mos of course, and Diverse of course...and RJD2's remix...and several other remixed versions I think. But I got the original version on the Urban Renewel Program anyways. Prefuse-73's got some hot shit...

Diverse is pretty good. Chi-town based artist, One A.M. is his debut album...took like 3 years for his album to come out :? good stuff, but not much lasting appeal. I got tired of the album after playing it through twice, and just put G-Unit's Beg For Mercy in. I like his complex word usage tho..

The MusicWherehouse (that's how they spell it) went out of business, so yesterday and today they had a huge sale. I got a bunch of stuff for 3 bucks, and some for 5 bucks.

Otep- Sevas Tra
Finger 11
Die Trying
Memento- Beginnings
Vendetta Red
Lacuna Coil- Unleashed Memories

Total= 22 bucks plus 4% tax !!!!

It was kind of depressing though that with such great deals, they had a huge selection of metal still. Well they also had a lot of DJ music, or hip hop, I don't know what you call it. They also had a huge section of Latin music left.

Cyra
11-29-2003, 07:08 PM
 crazy deals.

I paid about 22 bucks for two albums, 7% tax.

It's called hip hop...unless it's an album done by a DJ, which in most cases will feature guests...which is still hip hop. Does that make sense?..

Or by DJ music, it could be techno, electronica stuff.

Latin music is okay. I had a Latin CD but left it behind at a movie theater by accident..got pissed about that.

Back to my underground hip hop programs  :D

Haha, Nelly sampled from Mayer or something?

Anyway, I remember reading Jay-Z listens to Mayer or something...I think...I know he listens to Coldplay tho. I was going to post this in that mainstream rap topic in the Debate board to show that hip hop ain't all bad, the artists, cause they open-minded about music...some artists...in this case, Jay-Z.

Jay-Z's sampled a lot from everyone anyways, just like...pretty much almost everyone in the music industry. I have the song he sampled, "I love Girls, Girls, Girls" (whatever the song's called, I forgot)...heard it on the radio today too.

Yeah, for "Ride With Me" he sampled the "No Such Thing" beat and City Spud and Nelly basically rap over it.

....

As for the Lil Jon merengue mix, it takes a little bit of getting used to. The song sounds horrible to it, but the point of it is to just kind of make you bounce around and feel / act silly, and it is effective in doing that.

Also, I bought Switchfoot, Aenima, umm lets see.....oh and the new Fuel cd. I'm thinking about buying the LP Live in Texas cd if its a decent price. I dont care how good the cd is, I'm not paying 20 bucks for a cd like I did Meteora without it being damn good.

ahhh to be not worried about Rent, food, childrens needs, bills, etc. etc. I have bought 3 cd's this year, and was pretty happy to have budgeted that in, :D.
They are:
Evanescence, Revis, and a karoke Ev Cd that I adore(except for the horrid back-up vocals, they should at least get a singer in the same range as the original artist when they do these things, I've heard cats fuck with more harmony :P ).

I accidently bought it the day it came out...I didn't know it was released that day, and just happened to be in a music store when I saw it. My friend borrowed it though, and he gave it back with all these scratches, so I gave it to him, and bougt another. So technically, I bought it twice, making up for one person who downloaded... ;)

Okay dude, if you want this album, get it at Wal-Mart. I got mine's for $14 there.

I've bought very very few cds this month, I'm strapped for cash like you wouldn't believe. Trying to remember-

Tool- Lateralus
Stone Temple Pilots- Thank You
Jason Mraz- Live at Java Joe's

I like them all very much, especially since the STP disc came with a DVD for a few extra dollars. And mmm. Tool.

It's usually double or triple that amount. God damn school trips and volleyball are killing me here.

November will probably be my lightest CD month in a while... I think I only bought four. Of course, when I'm supposed to be saving every penny I get, four CDs isn't exactly something to be proud of... especially considering they're from bands that I don't normally think about buying stuff from.

Dream Theater - Images and Words
Dream Theater - Train of Thought
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen
Dropkick Murphys - Blackout

No more until Christmas, damnit! Like that will work. :D

PS. mmm. Tool. *wishes he had more Tool music*

four CDs isn't exactly something to be proud of... especially considering they're from bands that I don't normally think about buying stuff from.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

That one CD is a masterpiece though, so you shouldn't regret it :)
I haven't heard their new one yet, how is it compared to that one?

You're damn right about that. It is quite the CD, and I'm growing to love it more and more every day.

I'm new to this band, so I don't know much about their stuff other than these two CDs, and haven't truly appreciated them completely yet. I would say (and from most things I've read as well), that the new one's a fair bit "heavier" than their prior stuff, and maybe a little less "prog-sounding". I don't know... all I know is that I love both CDs a lot. I think I've found a new band to completely fall in love with.

*has nothing for December yet btw*

How is this one? I just found out about it a few weeks ago. I'm thinking about ordering the UK version from amazon UK because it's a double set with more songs (as opposed to the single-disc US version; not sure why they did that).

Pretty good :D

Careful when you buy it tho. My Best Buy didn't have it on the shelves so I had to ask an employee. He gave me a CD without the bonus limited edition DVD...I just realized that...today.

Good thing was the price was $9.99...at fye, they had the bonus DVD version, for $14.99.

Still, try to get the bonus DVD, I'm sure there's no price difference. I hate how they put two different versions up for sale at the same time...oh well.

It's a 30 minute DVD with an interview and concert footage, as well as backstage footage I think.

CD's I bought in the past month...

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - The Main Ingredient

Non-Phixion - The Future Is Now (Platinum edition)

I'm going to have trouble finding these in stores this Tuesday and later this month for the second one, I know that :( might have to opt to purchasin off hiphopsite or something (which has good deals anyways, but I'm in debt to my moms right now  and it would be better off to not let her know that I'm spending a little bit of money on something besides gas)...

aaand...Planet Asia - Throwback mixtape. some of the dopest emcees in the underground scene

don't know, i was thinkin about this topic and postin in it since it's a good one but couldn't find it..took awhile blah.

Yes, I'm a big fan of The Roots..

Unfortunately, their album coming out soon, The Tipping Point, might be more commercial..since this new single is being shown on MTV and played on mainstream stations I'm sure (don't know, don't listen to the radio much if ever)..but regardless they're still real hip hop and semi-underground, due to them being a part of Okayplayer, especially ?uestlove..and cause of their music :D

I've actually never heard Things Fall Apart, the complete album T_T (yet I say I'm a big fan!) but people say that's their best album. I would recommend either that or Phrenology (forgot the meaning of the word, but it has to deal with views on life I think)..I have Phrenology and I really liked the album...if you want to hear a few tracks first off that:

The Seed 2.0 feat. Cody Chestnutt (this is a ROCK song...it's really good!)
Complexity feat. Jill Scott
Break You Off feat. Musiq (this is the one that got very little airplay on mainstream hip hop/R&B stations)

http://www.fye.com/catalog/musicProduct.jhtml?itemId=10899718

If you want to hear samples of all the songs...check out Rock You too (#2)...really good songs :) far better than mainstream rap T_T (although it's great for clubs..and just dancing to whoo)

I just heard the samples on the site and they play like the least good parts of the songs?! The hell!!! Download them first or something oO they played the END of Break You Off..so it's not the best part at all. Idiots!!

Just the last month? Okay, May purchases...

Mission of Burma -- ONoffON (back after twenty years. Heh.)
Kerosene 454 -- At Zero (LP)
Dead Boys -- All This And More (LP)
DOA -- Hardcore '81 (LP)

and

From Ashes Rise -- s/t.

That's a very short list for me, but I spent all of my music money (Yes, I do have a seperate fund for music) this month on the entire Fugazi Live Series. Twenty live recordings and 30+ CDs at one hundred and fifty bucks.

I just bought "One Day Remains" by Alter Bridge today. I was interested to see how they sound, considering they're basically Creed with a new lead singer. I enjoy the cd quite a bit. I was going to buy Saliva's new cd, "Survival Of The Sickest", but I decided to hold off until Thursday, since that's payday.

The King of Crunk & BME Recordings present Lil Scrappy/Trillville - Welcome to Trillville (wonder what BME stands for. Background Music Entertainment? )
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter
Northern State - All City (it was so embarassing buying this album with how the cover is)
Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin

All this shit cost me like $52. I'm still confused as to why. At least Avril's album was $2 cheaper on sale and Lil Wayne's $9.99. Although Lil Scrapy's was $13.99?! I should've bought the album when it used to be $8.99 for like one week only at Best Buy a few months ago.

Kittie - Until The End
Lostprophets - Start Something

I haven't taken the poster out of the book yet :p

About that $6.99 12 Stones CD. It's great when they release albums at cheap prices. I got Northern State's first EP for $7.99 and Ozomatli's new album the day it came out about 3? months ago for $6.99 I think or it may have be $7.99. Great deals :D

As for that album cover..

http://www.fye.com/catalog/images/amg/large/drg400/g437/g43703xt49y.jpg

They're actually hip hop. They're pretty cool peoples, seen them perform live befo and met up with them. Anyways, their production on the album includes - get this:

Cypress Hill's own DJ Muggs
The Root's own ?uestlove
The High and Mighty's own Mr. Eon

Uh some others but the craziest:

Pete Rock

If no one knows who he is, he's a legendary producer in hip hop. He drops a few lines in one of the songs too. He only works with respectable rappers which is mostly underground, so him working with them on this is crazy. Don't let the album cover fool you :p (although their voices get annoying after awhile rapping T_T)

Actually, considering the new Breaking Ben cd came out fairly recently, that isn't suprising at all...plus they had like zero exposure for Saturate, and that drives a CD price up quite a bit...I paid $9.99 for mine in December of 2002.

Woo hoo finally have some new Celldweller Music. thats Right my last month purches included Celldweller: Beta Cessions. And let me tell ya even though they are Demos its like having a new album just because of how much he changes songs. Some didn't change as much as others. But a few of them changed alot from their early demos to the final versions on the Celldweller Debut.

Other Purches include The Jelly Jam 2, and Jerry Geleskle Solo Album.

The Jelly Jam 2, took a while for me to like. But once I did it kicked me in the mouth with just how great it is.

Still not sure what I think about Jerry's solo album, it seems a bit unfinished and could use a bit more refiging. seems like a few of the songs were just fragments of a larger piece...

Sincerely,
The Master

I have been buying cds like crazy lately, as opposed to my not buy any cd ever and just download stuff ways that I am accustomed to.

In the past month I have bought:
Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation
Alexisonfire - Watch Out!
Shadows Fall - The Art of Balance
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Freezepop - Freezepop Forever
Freezepop - Fancy Ultra-Fresh

That is a lot of cds for me to buy seeing how before this I hadn't bought a cd in 2 to 3 months and that was Nightwish - Century Child, and before that, I hadn't bought a cd in about 6 to 10 months.

Well, gonna sound kinda weird...cuz I haven't bought a techno cd in a while...kind of depressing to me. I bought the Maroon 5 album not to far back and just this last week I bought the Sweat cd of Nelly's new "Sweat Suit" album/s. Kinda ticked off that he split it into two separate cd's to make more money, but my lil bro bought the Suit album and I just copied it onto my computer so that I now have both. That new song "Over and Over" that Nelly did with Tim McGraw (very ironic) is absolutely phenomenal. I keep catching myself listening to it.

@ Open Canvas:

If you are looking for a good technoish type group, you might want to check into some Freezepop. They call themselves SynthPop, but I think it sounds like techno with a splash of indie. I like Freezepop Forever the best out of the two albums that I got, but since they aren't a big known name group, i had to order the cds off of amazon.com

I've heard them before. Never really interested me. I've got quite a heavy tech collection from Paul Oakenfold, BT, DJ Micro and Ferry Corsten to DJ Rap, Baby Anne, Keoki and Paul Van Dyke. I used to get BPM (Beats Per Minute) magazine and kept up with the rave seen. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh the War Within is out now? I went to Hot Topic one day and got a 2 song demo and listened to that about 40 times and decided I would buy it when it came out, but didn't know when it did. OMG!!! I love BECS avatar! I am the Great Cornholio, I need TP for my bunghole! DO NOT MAKE MY BUNGHOLE ANGRY!! COME OUT WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN!! Ok i am done. my god I love Beavis and Butthead.

My god do people really get that many albums a month? I haven't bought one in like a year! Okay that's not true, I got a CD book at a garage sale for fifteen books that had like 50 CDs in it. Some of them were crap (a.k.a. rap), the Eminem Show was in there, I threw it away. But most of them were great like Janis Joplin's Cheap Tricks, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, Korn's Issues and Nirvana's Unplugged in NY.

Jean Grae - This Week
Alchemist Presents 1st Infantry

Not a lot of good albums out lately (that appeal to me anyways). The only album that I been lookin forward to was Kweli's new album and I forgot that it came out last month. I already listened to it and it was ok but just different (not in a bad way but let's just say that after hearing it I won't be picking up the album). The only album I can really say that I'm looking forward to in the next few months (in December to be exact) is Memphis Bleek's album. Kind of odd for me.

Just went out and bought three cds today.

"Bleed American" -Jimmy Eat World
"Futures" - Jimmy Eat World
"Chuck" - Sum 41

I was kinda disappointed with the new Jimmy Eat World cd, but it's alright. The Sum 41 cd I probably like the most out of all three.

The only time I buy cd's is if it's something I'm really looking forward to... which this month happened to be Leftover Crack's Fuck World Trade ($12 VERY well spent I might add). Besides that, I finally broke down and bought Ev's Origin off of Ebay (I think it was like a month and a half ago... does that still count?). Basically I couldn't fit all of their other songs onto 1 CD-R so this was my quick fix. Now instead of fumbling through 3-4 mix tapes (and by tapes I mean CD's, of course), I just got 3... which make my otherwise hellish days a lot brighter. :D
