I've never listened to them, but I'm going to start. Everyone is raving about them.

One of my friends told me about some quote from them?
Something about since there are three of them in the band, they're half gay? One of them is bi, one of them is gay? Yeah I'm lost - but I remember the actual quote is hilarious.

LOL it could be, cos I'm good at getting lyrics wrong. Anyway, that's from Pure Morning, which is on the Without You I'm Nothing album and I can definitely recommend that one :)

Hee...That's funny. When I saw them (a looooong time ago, opening for Stabbing Westward in New Orleans...AKA the show where someone almost threw me over the balcony at Howlin' Wolf ::shudder:: ), I couldn't tell if the lead singer was a guy or girl. Hee

Indeed they are, there down here in Australia as I type about to perform at one of our bigger festivals.

Without you im nothing is a fantastic album, ive liked a few of their followup albums but none of them can compare to that one. - I also quite like the alpinestars which is placebos lead singers (sorry dont know his name) side project.

Placebo are great. The latest album (Sleeping With Ghosts) is an excellent return to form after the patchy Black Market Music.

I'd recommend the albums in this order:
1. Without You I'm Nothing
2. Sleeping With Ghosts
3. Placebo
4. Black Market Music

Big Mouth Strikes Again & Daddy Cool are two of my favourite cover songs....ace B-sides they were.

I also quite like the alpinestars which is placebos lead singers (sorry dont know his name) side project.

I think Brian Molko just done guest vocals on one of their songs. It was called Carbon Kid.

Thanks for that info. I had asumed that he just jumped between bands as they are both doing the festival route down here and i immediately thought of how David Grohl did the same thing with both the foo fighters and queens of the stone age last year.

The only song I really liked from them was Pure Morning, but my musical tastes have changed since then... I might give Without You I'm Nothing another try.

The lead singer, Brian Molko, is quite a feminin man indeed LOL

But I hear they're a really boring band to see live :(

Well, I used to trade bootlegs, and Placebo was one of the generally frowned upon bands. Whenever we talked about best and worst bands to see live, Placebo always made the worst list.

the honest thief
07-13-2003, 07:33 PM
i guess any band can be boring live if you don't like them, right?
anyway
when we (EV) played at rock im park in nuremburg they headlined the entire festival over Audioslave. the crowd was totally nuts, twice as much as for audioslave. i hadn't heard them before then really and i loved what i heard.
anyway
bands can be unheard of here and be huge in other countries for sure.

i like em pretty much! the alternative style compared with that frontman is a wicked combination.

i saw them live at rock im park 2003 in nuernberg and at the FM4 Frequency Festival in salzburg. both times they kicked ass. at rip, the whole, and i mean the whole audience was freaking out with them. only apocalyptica and metallica had the same impact on the crowd on that festival.
but they were kinda unlucky at the frequency festival. they had to play before metallica, which is very hard for almost every band. all the metallica fans were standing around, waiting for placbo to end their show, so that their heros can enter the stage. but for me, seeing placebo and then metallica in a row, was just great!!

my personal favorite is black eyed.

Placebo is small in the USA, but they are huge in Europe and Australia.

They used to be my favourite band, now I'm not into them as much as I used to.

It's true that without you I'm nothing is a classic ! It's their best album.

Placebo in concert are great, but sometimes the gigs are disappointing. So don't listen to people who say that they suck live. They don't always deliver great gigs, but most of the time they realyl rock !

AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHhhhh!PLACEBO!I bloody love Placebo!!I just seen them on Firday night at the Horden Pavillion and they blew my mind away.Sad but true and I have to say this but Placebo have replaced Evanescence as the best live band I've seen.I absolutely adore Brian Molko and I wanted to jump him while he was on stage but Placebo is a band nobody can live without listening to.
Hmmm okay my brother got me into Placebo after he seen them at Big Day Out Australia. To me personally their best album is Black Market Music which I cannot live without.I know I'm going on about them but it's hard not to when they truley deserve the title as rock stars.

When we say Placebo, you mean Placebo from England don't you? They played here not long ago, I didn't go but my friends did and they got Brian's pick, so yea they were extremely happy. I'm planning to get Sleeping with Ghosts as soon as I can find some cash.Their new single here "English Summer Rain" is pretty good. so yeah. Placebo are good but The Butterfly Effect are BETTER. :p

Ok now that I am going back into my Placebo faze I have to ask,am I the only person who can say that Placebo are better than Evanescence?I mean Evanescence is my favourite band ever ever ever but Placebo will always be to me the best band in the world. After reading every post here I also have to comment on the fact that most of you like Without You I'm Nothing,Every Me Every You,Pure Morning,Black Eyed etc..But have any of you sat down and listened to every single song, just like some of us would do with Evanescence, and really listened to the lyrics and the music?Seriously they have better songs out there besides those mentioned previously.A lot of those ones are just the public releases.I personally have not heard every single Placebo song but I try my best to find them. Also if you go to a lot of fan sites and read up on Brian,Stef or Steven you can sort of find where the inspiration for their music comes from and I guess you understand the songs better (and yet again) just like some of us do with Evanescence.I'll leave my Placebo whoring there.

*raises hand* I'm a huge placebo fan. they're my fav band.

I haven't read the whole thread, but many of you seem to like "without you i'm nothing" which is definitely their best album. if you're into emotional music - and you're supposed to do so since you're evanescence fans - you'll love that album. of course, you have to like brian molko's voice to fall in love with their music.
'without you I'm nothing' is great - I can't think of another album with such an amount of vulnerability and meaningful words. you should listen to it if you haven't yet. it's my fav placebo album, along with their new one, 'sleeping with ghosts'.

also I have seen them live last year, was great (second row, yay..). they're a fantastic live band and so is their dvd (soulmates never die). I don't wanna sound like an advertising dude, but I think you should at least borrow the dvd from someone if you don't have it yourself ;) it's really good.

After reading this thread I decided to give them another try. I only had 2 songs from them(every you, every me and Pure morning), but I did heard Sleeping With Ghosts before, not just the song but the full cd. I didn't really like it at the time, but now I really like it! So I decided to get the other cds also! I'm only missing Black Market Music. :( Without you I'm nothing is the cd I love the most, but there's a few good songs on the other cds. Here's a few songs I like: Lady Of The Flower, English Summer Rain, Sleeping with Ghosts,Protect Me From What I Want, without you i'm nothing,my sweet prince and mostly Burger Queen! I like the french version also, but the lyrics are better in the english versions. Kind of hard to translate a song! I'll probably get the DVD soon, if I find it!

Well I just thought I should bring this news to the dinner table since it is very important.

Placebo are pleased to announce that on 18 October they will release a collection of their singles-to-date, entitled Once More With Feeling.

The collection will bring together all the singles the band has released over the past eight years from their four albums to date: Placebo, Without You I’m Nothing, Black Market Music and Sleeping With Ghosts. It will also feature one new track which be released as a single on 4 October (more details to follow next month).

The band are currently finishing off a hugely successful European tour which will culminate with performances at Reading and Leeds Festival, on 29th and 27th August respectively.

Look out for more updates on Once More With Feeling including the complete tracklisting and artwork.

Well twiddle and twiddle dum.How exciting.I am really pleased to hear all of this.Yes very much indeed.

Ahhh, I've loved Placebo for YEARS. dlkfdaf.

The one thing that always amuses me about the band is that Stef is gay, Brian is bi, and Steve is straight. They have one of everything. :D

[I also love how Brian and Stef are always all over each other . . . but that's a different topic. :3]

I <3 the songs Protege Moi [& the english version "Protect Me From What I Want"], Pure Morning, Taste in Men, Burger Queen [the french version too, because Brian's french PWNS.], Daddy Cool, Slackerbitch, and Every Me, Every You.

I really hope they have a North American leg on their 2006 tour and that it comes to Florida. I'd be a very happy camper. ;D

I love Placebo. Their lyrics are different from all the other bands I've heard and love. They are cryptic but still straight to the point in some ways and Brian Molko is a god ;-). I have seen them only once and that was in Wembley for their 10th anniversary with Robert Smith on stage. No gig I've been to has ever passed as fast as that one. I was so sad when they left stage already - after almost three hours.

First new album details revealed!

With the album now completed, produced by Dimitri Tikovoi and mixed by Flood, we can reveal some more details, including the much anticipated release date. The 5th, as yet untitled, studio album will be released on Virgin Records on 13th March 2006.

The album will feature a track with guest vocals from Alison ‘VV’ Mosshart from the Kills, called ‘Meds’. Other track titles that can be revealed at this early stage are, the incredible ‘Space Monkey’, another huge twist in the musical tale of Placebo, also the track ‘Because I want you’.

You can read more of the bands thoughts on the album in an interview in Kerrang! magazine, out now in the UK.

Well, if you do you'll regret it, Cos although you love the song you've heard it too much and it's annoying cause you love it so. I like to leave the album a few days then go back to it.

I listen to it on my bicycle, while I'm delivering papers, or while I'm doing stuff on the internet. One or two times...I don't think it will be that fast with getting sick of it :)

They have evoloved musicaly, but have lost nothing that made their older music good. Buy it, and you should not be dissapointed.

Im obsessed with Placebo. There live performances are absoulutely stunning and very alive!

Have to agree with you there. seen them twice already and am hoping they'll tour oz again soon.

Written late in 2004 and recorded over four months of last year, Placebo have got their fifth studio album ready for release. Meds was made with French producer Dimitri Tikovoi (Trash Palace). "Dimitri's idea for this record was to get us to make a first album again", says singer Brian Molko. "To take us out of our comfort zone. There's at least five or six singles on this album". Expect an Australian tour to be announced soon.

I wonder if anyone would mind if I put some pics on the thread soon :D

I first heard this band when i was playing a video game on PS2. I think it was SSX3 or sumthing like that. But the song was called The Bitter End, and it's a good song but it's the only song I know by them

I just bought Meds, and I already really like Drag, Infra-Red and Space Monkey :)
I sat in the car, my mother next to me...and I saw a 'Parental Advisory' lable on the box...I put my finger on that, really quickly, or my parents might want to ask questions.... :o

I've only heard a couple of songs by Placebo, and they seem pretty good. I have heard 'Every me and every you' and also 'Passive Agressive'. Can any one else recomend some of their best songs for me to cheek out or even a good album?
Would be very much appreciated :D
Yeah... Every me and Every you are the best song to me.
I meet this song in a PlayStation Game "Formula 1 2000" It's the sound track of the game.
Very cool...

Yes, I agree. Meds is a masterpiece. I loved it from the start. I think Placebo are very talented. Because their music and lyrics are great. Speaking of lyrics: does anybody know the deeper meaning of the song "Post Blue"? I thought so many times about it but I haven't come to a solution yet.
Last week they were at "Rock Am Ring" in Germany. I wasn't there but I whatched the concert "live" at TV. It was great! I knew that they were good, but I hadn't an idea of how good they were exactly.
