Strange thought, here.
Evanescence say they're not a Goth band, yet a large majority of their fanbase seem to be that way inclined.
What's your experience in this?

Meh. I have no leaning toward any specific "social group," and I believe anyone who lumps themselves into one is looking for a reason to be different.
So I just bother either way.
Besides, Goths are Germanic warriors. The people I see waving their goth name tags around don't look like Germanic warriors.

Yes, yes, I know.
But I was referring to to modern cliche.
For example, I do not consider myself a goth, nor any other commonly encountered sub-culture...but there are plenty of people who wouldn't hesitate to label me as such.
Hence the "do people consider you" title.
I was mainly wondering if anybody else has encountered this.

I hang out with people that are all sooo different. We have some goths, punks, nerds, brains, jocks, preppies. I have a good diversity :D So.... I'm not considered a goth. I don't do the all black thing. I do love the color, but I'm not into all that stuff at which they are normally sterotyped for wearing.

i honestly don't think ev is goth. they have goth influences.. but IN MY OPINION, they aren't. you asked why they seem to have so many goth followers? music is what you want it to be. you see what you want to see.. feel what you want to feel.

Well physically speaking my german heritage is prolly the most pre-dominant in my appearance....... and you haven't seen the way i do my eyeliner (usually in some kind of tribal style pattern on my face similar to that of any ancient culture and how they painted their faces before battle)... add in the leather and spikes and well then i think i'd fall into that one  ........
Seriously though I consider myself just me, but if wanted to try to label me well you'd have to apply more than one..... Goth, Metal-head, Graver (Gothic Raver for those that don't know), Biker (was raised "It's not a REAL bike unless it says Harley Davidson on the side of it), Vamp, Rivethead, throw all that into a blender turned on "Puree" and you'll prolly be close to what kind of label ya can slap on me............... one really wierd freak.

I have some INCREDIBLY goth-type clothes. My favorite clothing store in the world is Gargoyles in New Orleans.
Glancing up at my memory board, I see stickers that say "Goth Park" and "I leave bite marks!"
For Halloween, I usually go as a vampire, complete with custom made fangs. And I've often worn my cool velvet and spiderweb dress.
I usually wear black clothes.
I have a miniature Living Dead Doll hanging from a noose on the cord of one of my miniblinds. Her bigger, scarier sister stands on my bookcase (and occasionally onstage).
I'm in a band that's sort of considered goth.
I rock the funky hair color and tattooed and pierced look.
I don't really consider myself goth, though. I'm just me. :vamp:

I'm not really "goth" in appearance or attitude. My wardrobe is either average, goofy or a shirt with a band logo. I have a shirt that says CEREAL KILLER with a spoon design running down the front *my goofy side*. I like metal, alternative and hard rock mostly along with techno/electronica and my sense of humor is "unique" to say the least (you have no idea how much I hold back on some of the things I post) . Other than that, I'm a pretty nice guy who enjoys a good time and I'm more xenophobic than antisocial really. I'm a little wary of strangers and new people but I'm a good judge of character irl and I eventually warm up to those who would be my friends. I have had friends from every social clique in jh and hs, "goths" included. People have tried to place me in a clique or group because they had no idea what the hell I was. Skater/Punk, Goth, Stoner. My friends have teased me with "Closet Case Goth" or like Michelle, "someone with Goth tendencies". I don't wear makeup. I don't have any tattoos or piercings; not even an ear piercing. My hair hasn't even been dyed in a bright, unnatural color though I have considered it from time to time. I don't even wear jewlery but I do on certain occasions. I honestly believe I'm too dorky to be considered gothic so I'd have to say I fall into a league of my own.
Nelson...

My friends (some) say I'm goth....*sigh*, I'm not exactly sure WHY, but they say I am. I'm not even sure what being Goth really is. I don't like being labeled.
EDIT: Well, yeah, I DO wear a lot of black about 90% of the time and I have emotional problems (depressed and moody), but that doesn't mean that I'm part of a seemingly complex subculture, am I right? There's a lot more to Goth than that, I'm sure....

Not to mention it makes morning dressing easy - grab a shirt, grab pants, grab socks...all black, no mismatching worries. :D I do have alot of earth tones in my wardrobe too. A few bits of red, a few whites or creams.....but NEVER anything pink!

Although all I ever wear is black, I don't consider myself a goth. In my neck of the woods, goths are pissy little teens who want to fit in by painting their face and dying their hair to look cool. It's kind of ironic, too. I am a night person, I wear all black, I'm intrigued by the supernatural, I have cauldrons in my room and am surrounded by skulls and yet I don't consider myself a goth. I guess it's because of my attitude. I have a sense of humor and like to have fun. I don't really conform to the notion of gothic people being perpetually sad or defensive. I don't know if you could classify me as anything. I prefer to be a nonconformist and really feel strongly about being my own individual.

I like to wear black clothes, fingernail polish, and eyeshadow. I just like black. I think it's sexy...esp. the eyeshadow. I don't think I'm "goth" because I don't dress like that all the time, but what can I do? LOL

Neither do most goths.
In fact, get a bunch of them together, and you're bound to have at least one conversation on what a "real" goth is.
It gets very boring.
Basically, I've decided to categorise them as "anyone who sits around wearing all black, surrounded by a lot of other people wearing all black, swapping stories about how incredibly goth they were even in childhood, and arguing about what a "real" goth is."

I thought I was the only one. I've been mistaken for a lot of things, including raver and/or stoner. The last one has some history considering I have a somewhat "high" glint in my eye on some days and I don't even have to be tired. I just look stoned on some days w/o the help of drugs. Kinda like Jim Breur. I can't remember if he actually does drugs, just looks and sounds stoned, or is just plain retarded. In either case I wouldn't be surprised.
I've been accused of devil worship because I listen to Marylin Manson every now and then. Oh and I too have some black clothes and my hair is a really dark brown but it can pass for black. ;)

Although I may have converted a few of them to become Ev fans.. But the word goth actually makes me think of girls wearing dark lipstick. I've seen one chick wear it before, pretty freaky. As for deep? More like depressed, sometimes, by what some say because of the way 'clothes express yourself.' Dark is portrayed as a 'suicidal' color..

Nah, I, much Like teh Jasmang, refer to myself as "a Katie" because i really can't be lumped into any stereotypical "genre" of personality.
My mom calls me "Black Rose" because I wear black all the time... but i do that more or less because Black is a very slimming color, and i am a moo-cow.
my friend James told me I'm punk before, and i responded "but dude, I listen to Savage Garden..."
don't try to lump me into any label... it's futile.

No you are not fucked up for feeling this way. I find that this is my reaction to having to work with the public 8-12 hours a day 6 days a week. To be honest i don't know what I am. I've never fitted into a category. I love goth inspired music like Ev and Lacuna Coil, and I love the goth look to a point before they go over the top with major eyeshadow and 12 inch spikes and stuff, but i guess I couldn't afford to get clothes like that even if they were available in West Aus.. I've never seen any goth shops here anyhow. As for myself dressing like that I don't know.. I think i'm too slack to bother, I like tshirts that are'nt always black, etc :P
In short i'm not goth, though others have said they see some goth in me.

Well to me the whole reason people even call you a certain type of person is based on horseshit anyways. I mean its just clothes ya know. Like there is nothing I hate more than ppl who go and buy nothing but black shirts, smear some eyeliner on and say they are goth..Goth, punk , all that is a way of life, not how many safety pins you can put in your clothes. Im just me, im not trying to be anything, nor do i claim to be a certain way. People just assume everything and that is ridiculous. Really the whole concept is stupid.

Most people consider me "goth", but I usually try to ignore it. When people ask me "Are you gothic?" I say "I don't know, am I?" It confuses them. I really can't stand people who go around calling themselves "goth". People should just be themselves and quit worrying about labeling. The word "goth" seems so High School to me (even though there weren't any goths when I was actually in High School). Most people don't even know what being "gothic" even is. Most "goths" grow out of the goth title by the time they're 18 to 20 anyway. I think this is a very stupid thread.

The only person who's ever called me a goth is my preppy neighbor because i wear a lot of black and listen to "scary music". Yes, i do have a major preference towards the color black, but i'm not at all a goth. I do the black bracelet thing (the ones that supposedly mean something in some schools but not in mine), but i'm fairly sure no one considers me a goth. I definitely don't. I do'nt really have a style. I like a lot of different stores and every day i'm different.

I don't understand this whole gothic genre. Most of the people who claim to be are saying it's "to be different" or "no more criticism" or even, "no labeling". Yet, That's all I see in that crowd, a bunch of followers. There are trends in that style also, even the language and likes of music. I hate the way most of the goth claimers love to label everyone else just as they hate when people to do them. The whole, "If you listen to this, this or this, You are soo totally NOT goth. You poser!" is just dumb. I hope people listen to whatever the fuck they want to listen to not just cause some goth said if you do your a poser. I could care less. I mean if you don't agree with someone else's music style, or clothing style then keep your mouth shut. If it's not YOUR clothing or music they are picking, then you shouldn't have any say about it and let them do what they want and what makes them happy. People need to deal with it or grow up.
**This isn't intended for anyone on the board, just most in the whole "goth" genre.

I get asked "are you a goth" almost every day. Just yesterday, I went with 2 of my friends to the Expo, and as we were walking around a woman passed by me and said "Gothic!" Right in my ear, and I knew she was directing it to me because she wasn't with anyone and as I was walking towards her, she was looking straight at me like she wanted to punch me or something.Anyways, whenever I'm asked that question, I just say "I don't like to label myself"or "You really have no idea what a gothic person is so shut the fuck up"- that one usually works more often. It makes me so mad that peole are so quick to stereotype others. Just because I wear quite a bit of black a lot and listen to dark music doesn't mean I'm any more different than anyone else in the world. I work in a day care, I'm not gonna wear black makeup and spike collars to work everyday, I dress just like everyone else there. Some people see others for what they wear, what they listen to, or who they are friends with, other than who they really are. I try to be friends with everyone I meet, reguardless of anything about them I don't like.

Too many people call me goth. I don't believe in labels though. I'm more of an artist if anything. I like dark art, I dress however I want, I listen to "dark" music, and I yell at people when they're being dumb and shallow. People take that as goth. Why?..I have no fucking clue.
In my mind labels don't exist until I know someone well. I only use labels (at times) for these reasons 1. because I'm making fun of them. 2. because I'm giving a person that does not know them at all, or hasn't even seen them somewhat of an idea of what they are like or how they act. I don't usually do that last reason though, I try and avoid it.
The only label that IS GOOD in my mind is poser. (I'm not one of those people that sit around and call anyone that doesn't listen to a type of rock music and dresses in black a poser though..no, not like that.) I define poser as someone who TRYS TO LIVE UP TO A LABEL, AND IS NOT THEMSELVES AT ALL. If you do everything just to be a "prep" or "goth" or "punk"..then you are a poser to me. NEVER try and be something that you aren't.
Anything that is different and somewhat dark is taken as goth to idiotic, shallow outsiders who know nothing but what the media feeds them.

Well I'm not into the whole group thing-I think it's very stupid. If you feel the need to be like everyone else, have it. I dyed my hair black, because it looked a hell of a lot better than my natural color. I don't get a lot of sunlight now because I'm real afraid of having skin cancer, cuz I ran around like a wild indian when I was a child and was sunburned a whole lot. I do have a lot of behavior that would be considered "dark" or "morbid".
Goth? I'm not sure, I don't live to put myself in a box.

Everybody and their mother's mother considers me to be goth, so why not the hell say yes?
I find the gothic look to be extremely sexy, so I personally take it as a compliment.
It's funny that everybody who wants to be goth dresses that way, but once somebody calls them "goth" they deny it right off the bat. Honestly, goth isn't really a lifestyle or state of mind, it only really applies to things like clothes, literature, architecture, music, stuff like that, not how a person thinks or acts. That's all up to the person, and is impossible to be confined and labeled. So I don't understand why people take such offense to being called goth.

lmfao I love how basically everyone is quick to shy away from 'putting themselves in a box' or using 'labels' to describe themselves. Yes it once was cool to run around and say 'WOW OMG IM PUNK R0X0RS'. I guess it's cool now to say 'WOW OMG IM SO MYSELF AND NOBODY ELSE'.
C'mon now. We know there's not two of you, so no shit you're yourself.
I find really no qualms with saying 'Yeah, I dress in all black, do my makeup a certain way, my hair is black and I'm damn pale. Call me goth if that floats your boat.' If a 'label' helps describe you to someone that hasn't ever seen you before, why the hell not? People are so anti-labels, and I don't fucking know why. If you skate, you're a skater. If you have radical political beliefs, shave your god damn head, and wear denim vests with studs and shit, you're a punk. Get over it, and stop pretending to be some hugely individual person. If you fit into a category comfortably, why deny it? Seriously. It's just stupid.

I'm not considered a goth. I don't wear any black- don't get me wrong, I like the color, but it's just too hot for that out here where I live... plus, I buy all my shirts on clearance and there's never anything black on there that doesn't have a gigantic v-neck. I'm sort of pale for the area, but I do have a tan which I don't bother trying to hide or anything. I like a lot of different artists and some of them are pop. I don't really have any makeup, so that's out the window, and my hair is dark brown rather than black (THANK YOU SO MUCH, SOUTHWESTERN SUN. I TOTALLY APPRECIATE BEING BLEACHED.). If I'm labeled anything, it's probably something like 'wierd', xD. I don't really care, IMO if you have to SAY you're an individual, you probably aren't.

I hate stereotypes. I don't consider myself goth, but some people who see me do. Just because I wear a lot of black and listen to rock music doesn't make me goth. It just happens to be my favourite colour (or shade I guess, because black isn't really a colour.) To be perfectly honest, most people don't know what to make of me. So they just call me "goth" for lack of a better word.

People look at me and label me and, ofcourse, they call me "goth," "psychotic," and "a satan worshipper" when I am none of those. I don't feel as though I fit into any social group. Infact, I believe that everyone's individual. Besides, a goth is, as the second poster said, a Germanic warrior.
Ok, so I do wear mostly black, and I do listen to Gothic Metal and everything that's heavy and hardcore, but whatever. People can go ahead and consider me a goth. We should get used to being labelled, because whatever we do to not get labelled, someone out there will put you into a social group. Besides, it's not the end of the world to be labelled.

I agree with Brittany. I'm so sick of seeing people running around "lyke d0nt lab31 m33333!!!!". I like Abercrombie, Rue 21, and American Eagle and I listen to alot of pop and hip hop. If that makes me a prep, fine. I'm not going to deny that. Though I am also a fan of Evanescence, I'm not going to craft myself into looking just like Amy. I'm here to talk about the music, not 101 ways to be a gawth because I like a band thats not pop or hip hop.

I always noticed that the irony is that the mass of kids who like to say it as their life mantra are by far the most cliche, stereotypical and self-labeling people ever. Go figure. :p I mean, if you wear spikes, black, chains, fishnet, dye your hair to colors not found in nature (including blue black), black make-up, face it- you're goth, move on with your life instead of hissing when you must face that you are not original or unique in your style.
"Hey, I just came up with a new dance move. Its called the... 'move on with your life.'"
Id probably be preppy if I were richer, actually. I cant afford the $45 abercrombie shirts or $90 pants, but I love them all the same. And I dont think im good looking enough to get hired by them and get like a 98% employee discount, so poop.
I guess as far as clothes and style goes- you could say my enthusiasm outweighs my means of obtaining that style, haha.

I like goth stuff, but I like other stuff too. I think everyone is a mix of every label, and some identify more with one label than another. People just feel insecure if they don't have a firm grasp on who they are, so labels are like a quick, easy way to find your identity. Except that they don't really describe your full identity.

I don't know. You really gotta work to earn a label in my opinion. I mean...what ever happened to the times when you'd just put on clothes that fit and listened to what you liked? Now it's like, "omgz0rs you listen to metal AND showtunes? What's wrong with you?"

I think, at this point, "myself" is a new stereotypical label. It really is. If you look at people who just say "I am myself", many of them are really the same. o_o Ironically.
sadly anything has a stereotypical label to it no matter what, but i guess it's how people view it. but in the long run in life, it's better to not look at those things

why do you have movies as the choices?
Hey, hey, hey ,hey
Ohhh...
Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me
Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down
Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Ohhhh.....
Don't you try to pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security
Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby
Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you all my name?
I'm not a goth. But if you want to call me one I really really don't care. At all.

I don't consider myself anything except a little insane.
However I always get called a gothic hippie cause I admit I do wear black and stuff and I'm always the one protesting for recycling at my school:cool: . I don't think wearing dark colors makes me goth, I just happen to like dark colors and look like a zombie in light ones.
I've also been called the biggest poser in the school because I don't perfectly fit the description of goth. Whatever. Who even said I wanted to in the first place?

No one has ever really labeled me...well except for my ex-boyfriend. He once told me that I was a sadistic-gothic-emo-chic, then again he's the one that's bi-polar(that relationship was messed up). Yea, the label thing really annoys me. They really are stupid. And I hate the people who go around telling people that they are "goth", "emo"...whatever. Does it really matter? I think not. Any time anyone tries to label me I just kind of shrug it off, if they want to waste their time trying to figure me out, fine. But I change everyday, I am not just one thing.

Yup, people consider me gothic. I wear a lot of the stuff and dress in the gothic style. Stripes, fishnet, black, eyeliner, corsets, a chain (until it broke) and I always had a cross with my outfits. I consider myself to have my own style that refers to the gothic/victorian age. I don't believe in the whole "all goths worship the devil" thing either. That's just taking it to an extreme. Besides, the fashion for the gothic sytle, is just a fasion based on those eras, nothing more, nothing less. That's my opinion anyway....

I used to consider myself a goth, but now I'm the complete opposite- a total prep. I used to wear spikes and all black and listened to scary music. Now I only listen to the scary music, but I wear A&E polos, lol. Yeah I'm weird.
And to those who are all talking about how 'Goth' is either a religion, a medieval Germanic group, or a style of architecture- you're right. But a word's meaning changes over time. So it's okay to call yourself a goth now and not have it apply to those meanings I just mentioned above.

I recently cut my hair after having it stereotypically 'emo' for about the last two years. I would never get called a goth by anyone around my age, it tends to be adults really.
I can think of a couple actually, one was a gas man checking our heating who came out suddenly with, "excuse me but would you say you're a goth?" Leaving me laughing.
And pretty recently I was working in an off liscence, we had some footage of a guy who had robbed some stores on our CCTV, as some police came to pick the tape up, they had to fill a description of me in so they just go: "you a goth?" I'm quite proud that I said, "No, I don't consider myself a stereotype, and it's offensive to just say that."
Bwuahaha, it's only because I wear mostly black and have black hair. It's enough to deem 'goth' these days.
I have spikey Mark Hoppusy hair now though so it should be interesting to see if I'm still deemed goth by the adult public of the UK in the upcomming months. =P

It always seems like that to me too with the adults. None of my friends(peers) refer to me as a goth. Just because I may dress a certain way and my hair is dark...makes people jump to conclusions.

You'll have to excuse adults- some are a bit too mature to be concerned with the subtle little nuances of image, cliche, stereotype, and cliques. :P
You know, its not bad to own up to being goth. Closets are for brooms. Just sayin. If you're gonna dress as a stereotype, at least be proud of it, and own up to it, you're happier if you accept yourself. [/Oprah] Life goes on~

I honestly cannot say what people think of me, but I know I'm definitely not considered as "goth". When thinking about this, I kind of feel like indulging in a guilty pleasure. I mean, what exactly is "goth"? It just makes me think of stereotypes and societal status, and for some reason, I now feel queasy. You can say that my taste in music leans toward "emo", but I certainly don't appear that way. Maybe "Girl Next Door" would do it?

No one considers me as a Goth. I'm no where near 'goth'. I just like to listen to what people like to call goth music.
The only person I know that thinks that I'm into the goth look is my dad. I'll be over at his house wearing my favourite T-shirt-shirt, a black one with coloured skulls all over it, and he'll ask 'are you into the goth look?' I'll be like no. I think goth is just a type of label that other people call people who like to wear all black.
My cousins think they are goth. I don't think they are though. But they think goth is just an attitude... I don't know.
I don't know what I would consider myself as. I don't think I fit under anything. I like to wear darker coloured cloths and I love to listen to heavy rock and stuff people call 'emo' and goth. I think I would call myself an individual. But then again I don't think I am... I don't copy other people and try to be other people though.. I like being myself.. No one has labeled me.. as far as I know.

But yeah, some people joke about me being slightly goth, though i'd never be allowed to walk out of the house in the look... i get in trouble if i'm wearing too much mascara.... Anyway, i'm explaining this so horribly aren't i?

People don't consider me as a "goth", more like a moron. I mean, people never said that I was gothic. I hang out with friends of mine in school, and we just mess around a lot. We are always sitting on the opposite side of the "goths", litterally and figurally. The "goths" in my school, if you want to hang out with them as a friend, you have to do pot and have to like Children of Bodom and lots of other metal bands. And of course you have to be a complete rebel, and Evanescence or any other "fake bands" ( ) shouldn't be liked. Well, me and my friends are nothing like that, we're all not considered "goth". And I don't care :p

A lot of people consider me goth because I'm dress all the time in black.
My economy teacher told me at the end of the next year : "when I saw you, I first thougth "she is a goth, sad all the time and without interests" but quickely I saw you joke with your friends and laugh a lot and I learned thanks to you that never remain about the aparences "
OK I do special things sometimes but I'm not a monster. Only a little girl who love dressing black.

You know, I never got this goth thing. I don't know what makes someone goth. I don't look like the stereotypical goth... I dress professionally and look put-together and just plain normal. There is no single color or vibe that makes up my wardrobe... and I don't even know how to wear makeup (I am so lame like that) so that bit is completely out.
But I've heard over the past four+ years from people I've met that I'm one of the most gothic people they've ever known. Which always confuses me to no end because I've never considered myself gothic in the smallest sense. Most people have said I just don't dress the part, but I don't think I'm inherently gothic either... that's just a weird group of people, in my opinion.
(I always thought the goth kids were the ones that wore the black and chains and stuff and were all anarchists/rebellious types that thought they were badass and unconformists and were too plain cool for authority. And most of them just had various problems - in my experience. But I just don't get it anymore. )

Today a dude was yelling like: "You're so goth and everything, you and your rock music, your black shirts, and your tribal shirt and everything, you're all goth!!", then he asked some people from my class who I hardly know if I was goth, and they all went: "...no...", so no, people don't consider me goth, except for that dude (who also was talking -almost shouting- about how I was fat  I'm not fat!).

I was over at my friends house yesterday and was telling him about my family. I have a real sister and a step sister who is what you would call a "goth." He then looked at me and said "I thought you were the goth." I paused for a moment and thought back to my times in school and what not.
Kids that are younger then me are scared of me and think that I'm a goth, or a monster from hell. But I'm not that. I'm just a different person that doesn't like to fall in the lines of "clicks." My friends say that I'm a funny person that just dresses different from that of the normal person.
And last year I guess I can add to my "I must be a goth in my school" list since I had friends that as people would say were goth.

I dress differently from the other people, but I don't consider myself "goth". I listen mostly to rock music and yeah, what people call "goth", but, for example, I dress in black, but with a touch of color, and I can dance reggaeton in a party...
All the other people consider me goth, or just plain weird. But in my case is something good, it adds the "cool" or "interesting" factor for the other people (specially because I'm a total nerd even if i don't look like one)...
I don't think a person can be entirely goth, or punk, or whatever.

Heh, exactly. I don't really look the part, since my wardrobe isn't all black and chains and stuff... I may be a bit more reserved, listen to only rock/metal and be a total nerd at times, but that doesn't mean I can't shake it pretty well at a party. ;)
Sooo, I've never claimed to be, nor has anyone said that I'm goth. Or a rocker, since that's what we call "goths" around these parts. When asked, I prefer to say that I'm a rock music listener. Which sums it all up pretty well.

Only when I'm in my stage outfit. However when I'm not performing you wouldn't even know I love to dress up in black. If you saw me walking down the street you'd probably think I was a prep, but if you saw me on stage there would be no doubt in your mind I was goth. While I love dressing very dark and gothic, I can't do it all the time. It doesn't fit my goofy personality and didn't work out.

Actually, many of my friends call me Anti-Goth. I almost always wear all black, but none of the chains/zippers laden clothes popular among goths at my school. So I guess they call me that because although I have a lot in common with goths, I express a lot of distaste for the ones I know (they are really immature and annoying.) But I've met a lot of cool goths at concerts so I don't have anything against goths in general.
Oh ya...I'm also not pale and I wouldn't wear makeup to save my life...

Yeah...but I don't even dress like it, though I do like the more elegant style. I'm not really into the gore...that's what my friends think of "goth" as, the gore. My "friends" are extremely stereotypical. Gar. Ever since I said I loved Ev they've been calling me "gothspel"...like "gospel", since I go to Catholic school. *sigh* At least there is more of a variety of girls at my high school now. Personally, I think I'm too "different" so be in any sort of "social group". I don't really want to put myself into that situation of only dressing a certain way, only doing certain things, only listening to certain music...I mean, I like My Chemical Romance and Michelle Branch...way different musical genres. To close this all up, I am not a goth, but people say I am. Yay.

Not really...at least I don't think so  A couple of my "friends" (don't know whether to call them my friends or not anymore) call/called me gothic because I listen to Ev and because I'm not always happy like they are, but really that's it. I don't dress like it at all! I dress fairly normal, basically a tee shirt and jeans usually. I mean I prefer to wear darker colors because they look more flattering but I don't wear the typically goth parachute pants or anything like that. Although I would probably buy some more 'elegant' clothing as Ellen put it if I wasn't so fat and if my mom wasn't so "why da fuck do you like that?!?1" :p But I definitely wouldn't 'goth out'...

I get that "goth" thing too, I do wear a long black skirt and generally a black T-Shirt with some sort of logo, I make my own clothes and I LOVE doing things that are out of the ordinary, I have long'ish (I cut 18 inches off for Locks of Love) naturally almost black hair that people think is black and dyed that way, nopers. I do fun things with my make up and have occasionally gone overboard on the eyeliner but hey who hasn't? Well, anyway, I mention liking Evanescence and the common response I get is "well with dyed black hair and all black clothes DUH, of course you wouldl being all goth." It's really annoying I wear black, make my own clothes and wear fishnet occasionally and I am "soooo goth" according to this town. I also tan and wear the occasional white article of clothing yet no one sees that. I also get "skater punk" yeah cuz I can really skate in a skirt that hits the ground.

Sorry, but how the fuck is wearing a wallet and chain original? About 85% of the male 'goth' population I see walking around have that, and sorry, but Evanescence is a fairly popular band, and their shirts are not all that uncommon, lol.
