what she meant was that the mods screen the people trying to register(i think) and she was allowed to make a thread because the mod who screened it deemed it worthy of the board(at least thats what i think..im not sure because im not a mod, but ive always been told that the mods screen everything and read all the n00b posts before they're allowed to go through..)

I suggest that we all throw in money to buy the mods INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH keyboards and mouses. They're gonna need them, normal mice are gonna die, and the keyboards are gonna get tired of being poked. Oh, and dont forget the RedBull, or is it Red Dog? I think its Red Bull. It will give them energy and wings from the Screen-Eye fatigue.

They might even recruit some more mods to help out.

You know what's funny? We're on one of the fastest connections available right now. I THINK we are on a 100MB/s connection right to the backbone.

It's the server that's limited; and this server is dedicated almost solely to our uses.

If we didn't have a mod queue, we'd all be fucked.

This is exactly why that system was put into place.

Granted, some dumb threads/posts may be let through, but we will make sure that people get banned should they get out of line.

If threads/posts don't get through, they happen for a reason (read: either they've been gone over already 1 billion times or the content of the post itself is stupid or simply not worth letting through).

I wasn't complaining. This thread implies that newbies are the problem. That last statement by diamon is the type of comment that starts a flame war. He could have easily said to use the PM function without the sarcasm. If you don't want any of the regular users to give attitude, maybe the mods themselves shouldn't give attitude. All the other boards I post at aren't so anal about these little things (such as PMing people and the "post whoring" you refer to), so forgive me if I'm not used to the customs around here.

Well, normally I wouldn't respond to a comment from a peon seeing as how this conversation didn't have you in it, but mods should set examples for the users. If the mods get special privaleges, and boss others around, that's not a good example. This whole thing could have easily been avoided if Diamon was nicer in explaining to me that I should have PMed the person to compliment the avatar. That simple.

I've been stupid, sometimes, yes. I've gotten pwn3d by mods a couple of times. But really, my entire experience here has been amazing. I've made awesome friends who I've hung out with at concerts.

If you're respectful and intelligent, you should do just fine :) It's not the new people IN GENERAL who people don't like. It's the new people who don't try to search, who don't read the rules, who try arguing with the mods when they're wrong and everyone knows it, and who start fights. And some of the older members have done this in the past and landed themselves a lovely Ban.

On that note, if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask me. Just PM me anytime :)

Probably the number one reason why people get banned is because they're disrespectful. Most of the time they're disrespectful because one of the threads that they started got locked. If people would search once in a while, there wouldn't be as many locked threads as there were when I joined the board (things haven't gotten better now thanks to the moderation system so there are hardly any locked threads). Seriously, if you've searched and you haven't found anything, try PMing someone who has been on the board for a while and ask them if there has been a thread on the topic you wanted to start a new thread on. After a while, you'll get the hang of searching and maybe your threads won't be locked anymore. Here's a tip: If you want to see if there has been a thread on Britney Spear's new CD and you've only found a thread about her new perfume, don't start a new thread. Post it in the same thread as the perfume thread. We don't want there to be 20,000 different threads on Britney Spears when everything can be in one thread.

Not always true. I'm still Noobish myself and I haven't had a hard time fitting in. You just have to respect the board and the Mods. It's that simple. Everyone is going to post something stupid every once in a while. Don't take it personal when a Mod corrects you. It is after all their job. It's not hopeless it just takes patience and an open mind.

When I first started here, it took time for me to understand how things worked... Head is an asshole but he is a nice asshole, Gill, is abraisve but I live him, ToB is a jerk but he is a nice Jerk. I am stupid but at least I can admit it. This board works on the love hate relationship. Why because that is how the world works..

Seniors-Dev, Syd, Headmod(or is it DeepFriedDragon now?),Sas, Jasmine, Gilwellian, pretty much anyone with a red name.-they whip the underclassmen, ie, n00bs, and sometimes the rest of us into shape, shows us the ropes, sometimes take a stern hand, but after a while, you realize that they are people too.
Juniors-people like Katya, MetalRepublican,Cfw828,Cyra, Marika, with lots of green squares under their names, also, people with blue names, the aforementioned have a tendency to know what they're talking about.-almost Seniors, but not quite, still get whipped into shape occasionally, and don't show true wrath, as Seniors can.(usually)
Sophomores-people like, I don't know,oops, mind blank, ah well, people who get whipped into shape more than Juniors, as they are still learning the ropes, but they still have a good number of little green squares, and post credible things a lot of the time..they don't make stupid threads like "Oh my fawkin gawd, I cant believe my thread got locked!!111" hinthint
Freshman-the new ones to the school, still new to the customs, sayings, and most importantly, RULES of the EvBoard, get whipped into shape a lot, and pwned by mods a lot. then they have to learn what pwned means. :) they're new and shiny-faced, but they have time to learn and get with the program(the test's tomorrow)

The band has been invisible since August, and will remain that way indefinitely. It stops all the stalkers from following them around in a herd on the board and refreshing the page 10 times a second to see what they're doing realtime, hence the board crashing.

yeah, way back when I first found the board (when it was a part of [e]) it was VERY different. I searched for hours when I found out the band posts here. And upon those hours ending, I figured it out with my head, not the search button.

I am a Republican and during the election, I had people PM me reply to posts and talk shit all day. What they were doing is expressing their opinion and if I were to get mad, then it is my fault. One has to look beyond what is in front of them and see what is ahead of that.

This board is very fair and open. If Head and I can be friends and PM eachother, then there is hope.

Much of evboard runs itself via the rep system and reporting bad posts. What's left is just trying to be preemptive against some of the worst offenders.

Yeah I think that the number of mods is good :) There's rarely a time when I don't see at least one mod on now. As the number of new members rises, we may see a rise in mods too, but that's up to ToB.

Hey Diamon, I think you guys have been doing a good job. Is it stressful for you? I know that there's probably a ton of messages in the mod queue with the upswing of sign-ups, no?

I really like to think that we are welcoming to n00bs, like tMR said. Hell, if we weren't, I wouldn't be here. I definitely joined after the whole "OMG that all of me song is so pretty and that Evanescence chick is hot!" So yeah. I'm still kind of a noob.

Torey made some good suggestions for mods, though, but I've noticed our recent increases, so I think you guys are doing a great job right now. :)

its kind of both. its good because there will most likely be a few really cool people among the people who recently joined. its bad because in that group of n00bs theres probably at least 50 annoying ones who will get through. but, you have to take the bad with the good, right? :)

It is a good thing. Anytime you have more people involved in something, things seem to be for the better. As long as you have good leadership, as we do.

Some people may view this as "a best kept secret" but the goal of this site is to have a place that is respected by the band and members so we can all share common interests. Which can range from Ev to building shit castles. Well, I have not seem that thread yet but you get my drift.

You never know who you are talking to or what they may become.

Most Inns don't take children. At my Inn, I have a philosophy that children grow up to be somebody and the was proved when Amy and her family stayed at the Inn back in 2000 and 2001. I will never forget that and the same holds true with this site. You never know what a member will become and the larger the membership the greater the chance.

Nope, to my knowledge no one has ever been purdged due to inactivity. There's simply no performance benefit to doing it.

I totally agree with you that text speak is annoying as hell. Half the time when people do it, I don't understand what the f*** they are trying to say. Luckily, I never do that, cause I know how to speak ENGLSIH.

I am Dutch and English is a language I can handle pretty well and I love it, so why ruin it? I've always learned to capitalize the I's and not type them like this... *i luv u*. Frankly I hate it when people write like that, it annoys me and it also makes me not finish what they wrote.
Since English is not my first language, I'm bound to make mistakes every once and a while, but at least I will write as clear as I can.

It's carrying over from how people are getting used to typing for SMS (texlephone text emssages) where you only have 160 characters to use to communicate. It's still annoying as fuck though.

We are currently sitting on 16,500 or so members of evboard. This mention on ABH will create a mass influx of newbies who speak in the language that we all hate, "lIkE rIGhT?"

ToB, prepare for the assault of people who get this DVD over the holidays. Hell, just the ones who buy it on their own will create havoc soon enough.

We as members need to be passive in our replys and let the mods do their job.

Yes it is a good thing to gain new people. This thread was a tounge and cheek comment about what the new mods were going to be facing. Not a bash on new members. Not at all. I am all for more members. This board has so much to offer and it will only increase in it's "greatness" with new members.

A small number of people now but before the current system, there was tons of it.

The mods here do an awesome job and I, for one, salute them.

Filtering the posts from the new members must be a demanding job. Until we are in thier shoes, we can only give them support and say, "JOB WELL DONE."
