I'm a complete and utter freak over the games, i've been playing them since i was 8 years old (About 8 years now then) so i had really high expectations of the film...i wasn't too impressed by it to be honest, i was expecting it to be scarier than it actually was, and certainly more jumpy like the games, but it's all good http://www.tag-board.com/smilies/smile.gif

I never played the game, but the first time I saw the first one I loved it. It is one of the best movies in my opinion. Only cause it had damn good acting, good effects and it was made to be believable and wasn't all cheasy with always being able to expect everything. It wasn't like the typical horror movies type thing, although I think that is cause it was more of a sci-fi video game movie then a horror movie. For whatever reason, it is among one of the best I have seen.

So when I first heard the words "umbrella corporation" in the trailer I was like "wait..why do I know that name." When I realized what it was I was extremely happy. I can't wait to see the movie too. I thought that the first Resident Evil movie wasn't the best but I still liked it. There are plenty of other dumb movies and Resident Evil isn't one of them.

I know what the trailer was suppose to be like when I went to the movie but it completly caught me off guard while watching it. I'm just going to go through everything I know so far so I'm certain not to miss anything, but sorry if I repeat anything, just want to make sure I don't skip over anything. Warning, some of this might 'spoil' certain parts of the film for you, so read on at your own risk:

- Character-wise, Milla Jovoich will once again be the ever kick-arse-sexy-tough-bitch Alice/Janus Prospero (yes, Janus Prospero is her real name it turns out, not 'Alice', but who cares, Alice is a better name anyway) and Matt Addison will make a return from the first film too (though Matt is... heh, 'different' ;) ). The characters from the game (RE3:N) that will be in the film are Jill Valentine (played by Seinna Guillory), Nicholai (Zack Ward) and Carlos Oliviera (Oded Fehr). I know some other characters from the game(s) will vaguely appear but that's the main ones. If I remember correctly, Major Cain and Dr.Ashford will be too of the other characters appearing in the film.

- As far as the plot and set-scenes go, all we know so far is this; Alice/Janus Prospero (Milla Jovovich) has now been experimented on by Umbrella Inc, and as a result become a stronger fighter. We'll get to see her jumping through a church window on a motorbike and wasting away zombies with twin MP5-K sub-machine guns, a Benelli M3 Super Eagle shotgun and twin Colt 1911 .45 handguns (she looks damn scary with all that strapped to her - I'll upload a picture of it all ASAP. You seriously wouldn't want to mess with her...). She'll also gain control/befriend the Nemesis eventually (remember, in the game they said it was possible to 'program' it?). She's also picked up an orange tank-top and net-top from somewhere - it's seems to be surprising what you can find in a ruined city overrun with zombies - combat gear that just happens to fit you perfectly. Hmm. Alice will also once again be seen getting her kit off, standing in the rain with nothing but a semi-transparent sheet 'covering' her. Hardly surprising. It's Milla Jovovich after all, it wouldn't be a Milla film unless she got her kit off for no legitimate reason. Meanwhile, Jill is off in her trademark short skirt, grey jumper and blue get-up (all the 13 year old boys out there will be happy to know that her stupidly large boobs and shockingly thin waist are included - a real-life Jill Valentine, I think the Hentai industry just went bust :D ), Beretta in hand, wasting zombies in the sewers for most of the film it seems. We assume Carlos and Co. are going to be with Jill, though in screenshots released so far only Alice and Jill have been pictured together. Aside from those changes, the storyline will basically be the same as that of RE3:N; i.e. get the hell out of Racoon city ASAP while avoiding the Nemesis. Oh, and the dogs will return, this time in a school, overrun with zombie-kids. And like the dogs, Milla's famous flying kick will make a welcome return too ;)

- As we all know, Ben Moody worked/is working somewhat on the soundtrack, and he's also got a cameo role in the film (probably as a random zombie). Marilyn Manson won't be back working on the soundtrack, unsurprisingly. Nothing else of the soundtrack has been mentioned, no further details released. So you can dispel those rumours about Dido and Ev being on the soundtrack, at least for now.

- The so-far release date is September 10th, however rumour has it that the post-production crew are pricking about and actually it'll be a tiny bit later then that. So look out for a mid-September to early-October release.

Actually I was thinking about her hair colour being wrong (far too dark as you can see), and her boots being quite different. And her gun is different, but I guess most people wouldn't notice that anyway.

Actualy I though they did an okay job with the TR movies, in terms of Lara. Jolie and Croft look very similar tbh, if you look at say, TR1 vs Jolie, in TR1 Lara was so 'simple' that it's easily believable to me that she looks like Jolie, and hell, they've both got the same curvy figure, big lips and general facial features that made Lara famous in the first place, so I reckon they didn't do that badly with the casting of the TR movies.

I prefered the movie outfit to the 'normal' TR one. It was just more... pratical? Realistic? I dunno, something like that. It just looked more like something she'd actually wear. If you're going to be jumping around old temples and stuff with a gun in each hand doding bullet fire, wearing a light blue tank-top that totally contrasts your surroundings probably isn't the best idea ;)

I'd think that's probably US, and then the UK will get it a short while after. Or maybe at the same time. I'm not 100% sure, but I'd be surprised if there is a big gap in between them. Anyway yeah, I'm not 100% sure on the release date (and like I said, it's rumoured that they're arsing about anyway and won't make the September 10th date regardless), but I'd be surprised if there was a big gap between the US and UK, probably be the same, or at least within the same two weeks.

I'll take a guess and say the release date is international- or at least, for UK and USA. Cuz I remember RE 1 was a European production, mostly. I dunno about this one. So I dont see any reason to different release dates.

And personally- if they keep Jill with blue top, black shorts- she's Jill to me. I'm not picky about that. I'm not really a whiner to these stupid details. She could be blonde. But thats not gonna ruin the movie for me. And i think Guillory is a good actress for Jill's part. I still wish Michelle hadn't died in RE1...=\ So she could come back.

Oh, and I saw movie clips of Nemesis cutting some paratroopers in half with his arm-gatling, and saw Alice and Nemesis fighting on a helipad. Nemesis TOWERS over Alice, and for a gun-wielding 8 foot brute, he is really mobile and can fight like hell. But Alice puts up a good fight, as well.

I wonder what role Ben has? He's in the credits, but...why? What is his role? Frankly, I'm tired of seeing stuff about Ben in the movie, and it ends up being about the soundtrack. I really wonder what his role will be in the movie... =\

But 99% of me reckons it's Sherry, that makes the most sense, and she's dressed right.

The first pic I posted looks like a school, so could be where they found her. And the fact that she's the only child to survive means she must be important. And why the hell would they have any other little girl in Resident Evil?

Nay lad, the original RE game was the best, though they spooned it up with the remake. The first was just so damn cool, it was kinda simple which made it more atmospheric, it's like with horror films, usually the more basic they are the scarier they are. That's interesting. See, to me it was always Jill's 'story'. She had more 'to do' in RE1, and for me her in RE3 was more important then Claire in RE2, because Claire only took up half the game overall, but with Jill she took up all of it. Plus she, you know, had much better weapons in RE3 then Claire or Chris ever got in any of the games.

Humans can't survive being shot in the head (certainly not by a .45ACP, those things are the third most powerful handgun shell in the world). Zombies can't survive being shot in the head either (unless you're in Day Of The Dead that is ;) ). And when she was shot, she was a zombie. You know, hence why she was trying to eat Matt. Actually, that made me think of something (well, this and the commentary on the RE DVD did). Kaplan. We never see him actually die. He's just driving the train along, the Licker opens the door, grabs him, and drags him onto the roof.. but we never see any blood spatter, we never see a body, and the Licker returns almost straight away, can't have had enough time to kill him properly... maybe Kaplan survived...

From what I know, they'll be showing the virus coming out from the Hive and starting to effect Racoon City itself. So I presume we'll get to see the Hive once more, even if it's just for five minutes, just to show the virus getting out.

Well, just to add on why I think it is the Redfield's story. Simply, more happens with the Redfields.

Chris has ties with Wesker- Chris is a major major threat to Wesker. And going to the Antarctica base and finding Wesker alive didn't help. And Claire's relationship with STARS and Chris, and her being taken prisoner to the Antarctica base- finding out about the T Veronica virus, the newest virus. Jill's only major thing really was just RE1- where she found out about the virus and Wesker's betrayal. But Claire fights thru the G Virus and T Veronica Virus, and Chris finds out the T Virus and T Veronica virus. Personally, Claire and Chris are the bigger threats to Umbrella- so that's why I figured the story is about them.

And also Wesker seems to hold more of a grudge against the Redfields. Like how he captured Claire at the very end of Code Veronica and made Chris chase him, then they had the big fight.

Yeah, and I'd love to see a little cameo of Kaplan mauling a scientist, or Spence laying dead with a fire axe in him. ;_; Or maybe Michelle's dead body, propped against the inside of the train. I just wanna somehow see Michelle in this movie, or even a reference to her, like have Alice say "They took me, and only me, Rain (Rodriguez), Kaplan, and Matt made it...then they all died."

Thing is though.... let's say Kaplan did survive. Let's say the Licker did no more then bite him (all that we see it do to him), and he managed to... hang onto the side of the train or something. So let's assume for a moment that Kaplan didn't die when we thought he did. By this time he's not only been attacked by the Licker, but he was already infected by the zombies too, and although he took the antidote, that didn't save Rain so why would it save him?

His options are either:

Held onto the train or something; antidote worked; survived.

Held onto the train; antidote didn't work; became zombie

Outright died (eaten/throwen off speeding train)

Held onto train; antidote did work; Hive investigation team find him, inject T-virus directly into his still vaguely-living flesh; becomes new Licker (as seen in the church)

Meh, I'm just clutching at straws really, I just want to see 'em all again. Be cool if they found out where One's chopped-up body went too...

I think that's why Milla's cool tbh. She does *everything*. And she actually does everything fairly well. Sure, she's not the most amazing actress, nor the most amazing singer, or whatever you want to list, but she's always at least above-average at 'em all, it's not like she does everything AND sucks at it all, she does a good job. I'm so excited to see this movie! :) I never saw the first one (though I thought it looked pretty good), but I saw the trailer for this before Collateral and was really impressed! So I looked it up online and the story line is pretty darn decent considering so many people I know think it's stupid :rolleyes: Anywho, I literally can't wait! :) I adored the theatrical trailer -- the way it was edited was really nice (especially the "My name is Alice..." opener and the end where Papa Roach kicks in and they lace together the action sequences. :) I don't usually get quite this excited for films, but I think this is going to be awesome. Plus, one of my favorite British actors has a small part! Ok. Here's my little squirrel banter... I don't really like how this movie is portrayed..It looks a little more ACTION then it does HORROR..isn't that basically what the game is? Horror. I mean, I liked the first movie for its 'eeriness' especially the trailer (that was awesome.. I loved the lady in the Trailer how she said 'no one is immune...resident evil' I love how she said it...anyway..) Yeah, this looks more actiony...than horrory (:p) I also think it's KIND OF corny how they changed Alice/Milla into this...fighting machine..it's like an excuse to go over the top...... Anyway...I still think this will rock and I'm still excited to see it this Friday w00t! :p

Kennchii -- I remember reading that a lot of fans of the game actually were upset that the first one didn't have as much action as they had hoped, so the directors were definately moving away from the eerier aspects of the first film and more towards a high octane continuation of the story. In terms of Milla, her character was a fighting machine in RE 1 as well -- only she'd forgotten most of what she knew...presumably it all has come back to her in this one...plus, one of the trailers indicates Umbrella's been expirimenting on her...trying to make an ultimate warrior type of thing...should be really interesting! I'm excited to see it! :D

I don't think that this movie can be big on the horror, as the story would have to lean towards more action (ie. lots of fighting and killing).
The first movie should have had far more horror. It was all isolated and creepy, etc. But they didn't even use the mansion!! :mad: I think they leaned too much towards action on that.

I think they should have focused a lot more on horror for the original, and saved the action theme for the sequel.

Only 2 days for me...and looks like im gonna see it alone, but yay. I'll see it again on Sunday with friends- thats the day they can go... Cant wait. Its like the Nightwish concert all over again- Im numbering the days and hours, and moments. Im only happy during school if I know i have something to look forward to that day or week... I am ecstatic.

Kennchii -- I remember reading that a lot of fans of the game actually were upset that the first one didn't have as much action as they had hoped, so the directors were definately moving away from the eerier aspects of the first film and more towards a high octane continuation of the story. In terms of Milla, her character was a fighting machine in RE 1 as well -- only she'd forgotten most of what she knew...presumably it all has come back to her in this one...plus, one of the trailers indicates Umbrella's been expirimenting on her...trying to make an ultimate warrior type of thing...should be really interesting! I'm excited to see it!

yea chris was turned into nemisis from 1st one and she was experimented on also, apparently she has the t virus in her too and she mutates in the film (not sure if that means tyrant like mutate or just gets even harder than in trailers or....)

I actually didn't see the very end of the first one -- can anyone tell me what happened? Oh, awesome -- thanks! :) I remember seeing the clip of her in the trashed city and with the tubes, but I didn't know if they were from the upcoming movie or not! I am sooooo excited to see it! Incidentally, the guy who plays Dr. Isaacs (the guy supervising the Alice project) is Iain Glen, one of my favorite British actors! He's a splendid villain -- everything he says is just laced with menace! Soooo excited! :D

I just got the RE Deluxe Edition on DVD and it rocks. It also came with a ticket to see RE2. I cannot wait to go see the second movie.

I JUST SAW IT! it was so KICK ASS! so much better than I thought. there are moments (IMO) that are like the game. especially with Jill walking around in dark places... no herbs tho u_u... the ending was actually surprising for me..i never thought that would happen...heh. but, yes, i DO recommend it. Also, forget what i said about the action. The action was very very awesome. This is better than the first..IMO.. AND YES. for all those Milla fans..there is a treat right near the ending hehe ;) a great treat.

It does have a treat. If you have to deluxe edition it shows some of that. I cannot wait to go. BTW The Deluxe Edition is at walmart for 12.99 and it comes with the free ticket inside.

WOHOO! i watched RE2 today, and it was awsome. much better than the first one, since this one was more like the game. i thought the actress playin Jill did a pretty good job. and best of all, it was all filmed in TORONTO!! (i live 10mins away from T.O.) so everything was sooo familiar. so the whole movie reaked of Canada! haha i loved it. *can't wait to buy the dvd* :D

I watched a few short clips from the movie, and it's making me crazy wanting to see it so badly :p

If anyone has seen the movie and noticed yet:

Remember the weather channel girl who is video taping the whole thing? Well, most of the movie, she's unarmed, and then zombies dive for her while shes on the ground (backing and kicking away), and she AIMS the video camera at the zombies. I thought that was funny.

Anyway, what I really liked about it was that it was so much like RE1, and had a LOT more stuff from the games. Not total rip offs- but the helicopter crash, the entire police scene (that ends zooming in on the helmet), the bomb, and lots of other stuff. Really neat.

Hey, for those of you who have seen it, how does it compare in terms of violence and gore to the first one? I'm actually pretty sensitive to that kind of stuff, but I didn't think RE1 had too much bad stuff in it (though reviewers seem to have thought so) -- is it pretty graphic, or are there just a few scenes that are squirmworthy?

I want popcorn and I want it now. With butter and M&M's. Oh and large coke too. The one that is refillable with the huge straw. And I want silence. Espically from the twits in the second row. And if I see another damn commerical trying to sell me a pair of jeans with a dirty car and a bull chasing some idiot who has nothing better to do that that, I'm outta here.

Other than that, enjoy the show.

What gore? I mean, well, RE2 is a bit lighter on the gore. Have you seen 28 Days Later (ultra bloody, so maybe you havent)? Well, if you have, the movie is...sort of a zombie movie, but it is more about People vs. People, not Zombies vs. People.

So like in RE1, it was 100% straight-forward guns vs. zombies. In this, I saw this movie as more people vs. people. The goriest part might be when the dogs (who look a bit bloodier and decayed compared to the first RE1) maul a guy. But thats it. Theres violence, but not that much blood spraying, guts flying, etc. Its mostly fighting violence. No head explosions, no legs being torn off, etc. This movie is a bit 'smarter' than the first- since it has multiple conflicts and storylines in one. The first RE was basically straight-forward and survive. This is more than that- so what it lacks in its gorey violence, it makes up for in the acting and drama and plot.

The most graphic the movie might get... in the church, Jill hears a guy or something. She goes to check it out, and sure enough, theres a zombie chained down in a chair. The priest/clergy/whatever comes out, claims it is his sister, and that 'she is just ill, and sick' and tells Jill to leave them alone. On furthur inspection, Jill finds arms, legs, blood, and then its obvious that the sick clergyman has been FEEDING his sister. Thats probably the most graphic- because you literally see the severed arms and stuff. Its a short scene, though. But thats really how graphic and disturbing it gets.

I just say it last night.. it was very cool and i liked the the way they put different characters and actions in from the games.. thats what i missed in the first movie for sure.. but its ending good so we can expect a third movie!!!

I thought RE was... 'okay' I think what hurt the most is the ... Nemesis... How in the hell can he turn good?!?!?! I am sorry... all the bullshit in the game with having to run like hell from him it just made it hurt in the heart a little :P

I saw it last night. I thought it was fawkin aweshome! It was worth my $8.50. I waited forever for the 2nd and now my life is complete. :D

Yep, Sienna Guillory was great. I also loved the girl, Angie- she was cool. I mean, for a little girl, but a great performance from her, I thought...

Anyway, everyone knows Matt = Nemesis as soon as Milla sees him. Its sorta a sad scene- but I'll let ya think of this: Imagine having your co-survivor being captured and changed into a biological terminator controlled by sinister people at computers with almost no mind of its own- and it is meant to track you, ex-military, and STARS down to finish you all off.

Anyway, Nemesis looked almost very identical to Resident Evil 3 (The game) Nemesis. THe stapled face, no lips, heavy heavy armor, huge boots, that big tentacle thingy- it was great, and you always felt/heard an earthquake when he was coming, cuz his boots are the size of your torso and it goes "Boom....Boom....Boom..." and then he pops into view with either his minigun, or rocket launcher.

I am glad that the makers of the film could re-create Nemesis to what he is in the game. I suppose it is o.k for him to turn good kinda... because in the game he is different.. he is not related to any of the characters, unlike the film.

Hes not related to anyone in the film, except his sister Lisa who died in RE1, if ya meant her.

And for those who have seen it, and seen the ending... I just wanna punch umbrella. A lot. In the face. Repeatedly. If you've seen the ending, you know what I mean.

And i just came back from seeing it a 2nd time- I caught something i missed. The little girl says "But th eumbrella people stole it from him" and explained it all for me. Er, you gotta see the movie.

They had LOTS of things from Resident Evil 2. That helicopter shooting Milla down reminded me of RE:CVX, and the entire police scene in the street like RE2...that was great.

Man- those other movies are seriously just treading water, compared to RE: Apocalypse. Yay, now im happy, Resident Evil is 1 at the box office. Even though its a slow start for ALL movies this weekend...RE is gaining money at a geometric rate compared to the others.
Many have said this is the worst box office weekend in a long time- but RE:A seems to be livening things up.

yeah this movie reminded me of RE3...even though i never played that game [not yet anyway] but how it mostly took place in the streets, and the uniform Jill had on. plus the fact that Nemesis was in it. and i too agree, that the ending kinda sucked....with nemesis turning good and all....but still a good movie nonetheless! :D

Yes, ignore Ebert and Roeper on this movie. =\ I have friends that say "Ebert didnt rate it good, so I wont see it". They disgust me.

i tend to always ignore ebert & roeper on all reviews, actually i never care what critics have to say about a movie. i've noticed that i ususally like all the movies that get bad reviews. Maybe the critics just don't know what they're talking about! :eek:

For reals. LOTR Peter Jackson and his reviews are sorta irking me. He said Cabin Fever was good. And the trailer/preview for the movie quoted him. Yay, the Holy LOTR Director said it was good, must see it.....
