I was never a huge fan of hers, but I was just watching her on Launch doing "Building a Mystery", and she was playing a pretty intricate, not entirely difficult, but intricate guiatr part, while singing. Just her, and an acoustic guitar, and she REALLY impressed me. Well, everyone who plays guitar and sings is awesome...well, not EVERYONE, but it's pretty difficult. Just wondering what everyone else thought of her... :D

I've always liked her, even thought I've only just started to really get into her, but she never really took off down here in Australia so that was probably the reason for my slow take up of her music. I love her new single, its not her best, but its still her all the same. Trying to invest in her back catalogue but its expensive stuff!

I didn't say it was stupid. I said shut up because if I were listening to it in front of my friends, I'd probably get laughed at because they don't really listen to artists like her. I didn't say she was stupid either. I listen to all genres of music and I'm open to everything. As I said earlier I thought her album was excellent.
Please don't take the sarcastic comment that I had for that post seriously.
This is the same thing as the whole Atmosphere topic. I liked them too. C'mon gimme some credit.

I love Sarah McLachlan. Surfacing was my first CD ever. I like "Building a Mystery," "Adia," and pretty much every song on the CD.
As far as her new CD goes, I don't think it's as good, but it's not bad. I picked out the singles right away, and so far I've been right. I love "World on Fire." It's so cool.
I'd love to go see her in concert some day, but I think I'd love to see Ev again more. I must prioritize.

Ms M is a very competent guitarist for sure. She also plays piano pretty too. I've seen her 4 times, counting both Lilith Fairs. She writes straight from the heart and isn't afraid to bare her soul. Sorta like someone else we all know and love ;)
I don't think her career is over yet there, Kap. She is quite established now and her fans aren't exactly going away. If anything, she is getting more. (Glad ya liked the disc CFW my brother) She's not a chartbuster, but when did that mean anything anyways, eh?
Oh, and Unwanted? It's Delta that sounds like Sarah. Guess who came out first.
There are some remixes and alternative versions of her tunes available that are a little heavier (well, they're electro at least).

I loooove her. One of the greatest acts of the 90's, in my opinion. Her voice is incredible. It's weird because it's not particularly powerful and the range isn't that large, but still, it's just wonderfull. Angel is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.

I have gotten some Sarah's albums lately (Mirrorball, Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, and Afterglow).
It's amazing the quality and warmth of her voice, besides the lyrics that have just blown me away.
My fave songs should be Fallen, Elsewhere, and Possession.
It's true that the music is kind of "too soft" for me, but that doesn't make me any less willing to listen to it.
I'd recommend anybody to buy her albums, oh yes :)

Oh yeah! I know the piano version! Actually I accidently heard it before I heard the regular version. I just fell in love with that song, in the piano version, it's so pure and gets to my heart, one of the saddest song i've ever heard.
As a fan of Sarah, I have all of her Cd's (not all are original, I admit  ), I mostly love "Surfacing", "Fumbling towards ecstacy" and "Afterglow", but I love many songs from other albums. She's a great musician, her voice is one of the greatest voices i've heard.

"BEWARE OF THIS CD - Sony and BMG have seen fit to include a BS copy protection program on the CD. When you install it into your PC, it will prompt you with a tiny warning and "licence" agreement. If you're like me, you won't read it and just click "yes". Unfortunately, this will then irreversibly install some crap on your hard drive that CANNOT be removed. Its suppose to "download license keys" and "allow you to play and copy the CD". Once the installer has run, there is no way to uninstall all the crap, however. The company, www.sunncomm.com that provides the copy protection software is completely useless in email dialogs about the software. For example, when I wrote them asking how to uninstall the software from my system, their response was, not instructions on how to actually remove it, but rather "our software is a small unobtrusive utility that will not harm your computer in anyway..." Huh? That's not what I asked...
Furthermore, this "copy protection" will not allow you to Rip your own MP3 versions of the tracks - you can Rip them, but they will be corrupted and not sound correct. Using Linux and a few additional other steps, there are ways to Rip your own MP3 version, but this is beyond most typical users."
Update 1: If you beg and pled with sunncomm.com, they will eventually email you a link to an ActiveX program that will uninstall all of the software installed as a part of this CD installation.
Update 2: You can actually Rip an MP3 from this CD using Windows, but it will result only in a relatively low quality tracks. Here are the steps: 1) Use the sunncomm.com program and "rip" a copy of the cd to your HARD DRIVE (tracks will be in a low quality 128bps WMV format unfortunately). 2) Use Windows Media player to burn a "standard CD" using the tracks from Step 1. Step 3) Use your favorite MP3 Ripping tool to Rip MP3s from the CD created in Step 2. The problem with this whole process is, however, that the quality of the final MP3's is pretty poor. The version I Ripped using Linux directly from the actual CD is of much better quality. Not sure what the quality of the complete album in MP3 directly off of Sarah's web site is. Hopefully, better than what you can get using the sunncomm.com round about method...

I'm soo bad at explaining, so this is quoted from an amazon reviewer's comment :)

Blacksilverblue, there's a link somewhere to the site from Sony with the removal instructions/removal program etc. I'll go looking for it.
And Bloom is on that list of CD's. There's some info posted about it on Sarah's website I believe, and I got an email from her fanclub about it.
I'm not sure if this is the right removal tool, but it's direct from the SonyBMG site:

Just heard the live version of Possession yesterday on the radio... forgot how much I liked that song until that moment. I think it's actually better than the original. Very haunting and beautiful. :)

I actually think most of her songs are better live than the studio versions. You have to listen to the live version of Fear to get the full impact of the song, and my god, her voice. It's brilliant.

I just loaded "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" onto my iPod. Turns out my parents had it, so I stole it:D So far I really like Ice, Possession, and Fear.
I'm on a total Sarah M kick right now.

She has a beautiful voice. She's one of my dad's favorite singers, so I hear a lot of her. I love "Fallen" and "Adia"!

Really?????? I never would have guessed that in a million years. Was she writing it from the stalker's point of view? I only ask that because of the lines in the chorus "And I would be the one to hold you down/Kiss you so hard/I'll take your breath away." Those lines always just made me think it was about loving someone and not knowing what to do.
I'm really loving "Ice", it's incredibly ethereal. One of my favorites of hers, most def.

Yup... till you know the background story it's difficult to guess what the song is about. But yes, it is about this stalker she had.
Anyway, I love that song.

Sarah McLachlan lends her vocals to DMC (from the legendary old-school rap group Run-DMC) track "Just Like Me" for DMC's solo album. The track samples Harry Chapin's chorus for his classic "Cats in the Cradle" and the song and video have to do with DMC finding out after 35 years that he was adopted. Nice video.
Apparently, the version that Sarah does is a different version from the one that's on his album because Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas does vocals on the same song.

I finally got "Solace"! :D I'm excited! I didn't think I'd like it that much, but I adore this album as much as I like her others. <3

Me too! When I heard of the inspiration behind the song, my outlook totally changed.

That would sound interesting. :) I can't wait to hear the song!

I haven't posted in here before, but I should've.
I love Sarah. I've got a few of her albums and really love her music.
Right now I'm addicted to the Piano version of Posession. Does anyone know where I could find sheet music for it? I'd love to be able to play it.

"Ice" is amazing. It's one of my favourites by her. I love how on the Afterglow Live DVD Sarah said that it's probably one of her more depressing songs because it seems that it's her most depressing songs that I'm attracted to although I'm not depressed or sad.

Yeeeees. Thank you for that, Ana. Lets see, here . . . . Evanescence is coming out with a new record. Sarah McLachlan is. Seether is releasing an acoustic DVD/CD, John Mayer is releasing a new record, as well as Breaking Benjamin.
That news just put me on cloud nine. THANK-YOU AGAIN!

I really, REALLY like Sarah McLachlan--she's one of my favorite artists. She's got a gorgeous voice and looks (especially considering her age, and she has a daughter!). I love her song "Building a Mystery" and the cover she did on "Gloomy Sunday." I also love her song "Angel" too. I got into her not TOO long ago, but definitely a while back--the reason was becasue I'd never heard of her before. *hides head in shame*my best friend is absolutely OBSESSED with her, hugely, enough that I would consider her one of Sarah's biggest fans. Period. So she got me into her, and frankly I think she's awesome. I went to one of her concerts and it was magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!! :D You know what I think would be absolutely great? I think it'd be more exquisite and to-die-for than anything else--if Amy did a duet with Sarah. Seriously, I think I would fall unconsious along with my friend!!!!:p And stay like that for quite a while!!!! LOL!!!!!

LOL!:p Now, if she were like fifty, and those looks and that voice, then I'd DEFINITELY be amazed! Not that I'm not already, lol. And have you seen some of her interviews??! Oh my gosh, they are soo dirty! I find it funny!!! (Again, my best friend is obsessed with her, so even if I didn't want to know ANYTHING about her, I'd still be stuck with her. Lmao.) However that's not a bad thing, right? :p I also think it'd be pretty cool if like Amy did one of her songs, and vice versa for Sarah. Hah, my friend was like (while me excitedly telling her about the songs on The Open Door), "OH MY GOD DID AMY DO A COVER OF SARAH??!!" And me being like, ".....No." That let her down a bit, but we thought it was cool how Sarah has a song of Amy's album, and Amy has a song of Sarah's song too! :D

While you wait for "Holiday", why don't you check out her old stuff as well? "Surfacing", "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", "Solace" are awesome. Heck! All of her albums are. ;)

Heck, that woman is wonderful! If you can, try to get a hold of "Touch" her very first album. A while back I sensed they were quite scarce, but my Wal-mart has a good stack of them. She wasn't very popular back in the late eighties, but that doesn't change the fact that her music is fantastic. I'll also add that on "Touch", her voice sounds noticeably different from her latter albums. Kind of childlike. Not like the voice of the woman of wisdom we see today.
Anyway, "Surfacing" and "Afterglow" are my favorite of her albums, with "Building a Mystery" always being her best song, in my opinion.
Can't wait for "Holiday"!

I have to say, the changing of her style is so fascinating, it's so strange to listen to Fumbling Towards Ecstacy and then listen to Afterglow... both AMAZING albums, similar but so different at the same time.
Sarah is simply fantastic.

Her older albums (Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, Surfacing) have an extremely dark sound, in both lyrics and in music. At least in my opinion. I love her older stuff, but the transition to Afterglow is pretty interesting. A lot of the lyrics are still "dark", but much of the sound clashes with that, in a way. I like that, a lot. And I love artists who keep their founding qualities, but change and grow a little more with each album. That is Sarah.

Fumbling Towards Ecstacy is one of my favorite albums of all time. I can't get over how much I love it, and I hope I never do.
Surfacing is also amazing, as is Afterglow. I just wish she could release albums faster. Hee! But if it takes time to make greatness, I can accept that.

That site has some nice Sarah's quotes...
"If you love large, you’ve got to hurt large. If you’ve got a lot of light, you’ve probably got an equal amount of darkness." -
