Well you have to do a lot of repping before you can rep someone twice. It'd have to be a decent consensus of the board members hitting the person with negs.

ToB, is there a way to set it so that the neg point have to be from several different people? otherwise, you might get a couple of people that simply dont like each other and want to get eachother banned unjustly.
its a cool idea. would actualy add some value to rep points, and incentive to get good ones- an therefore good posts. but i think its a little too easy to abuse if its that streight foward.

Mods have control of everything and never ban without a good reason. We have access over all reps received so any attempt of play dirty would be acting like a boomerang.

if someone did 'play dirty' and the mods didn't realise, or if the person was de-repped unnecessary, would it be possible to get unbanned?
I believe I can answer this.
Those of us who have seniority and very high reputation can inflict the most damage on people we don't like. So don't fuck with the people on the top of the reputation list. :D
N00bs who've only been here for a month or two (or less) inflict far less damange with their negative reps. So even if they give out mass neg reps, they don't hurt as much as mine. (and plus the moderators can see it if need be).
So to answer the direct question, I'm sure that if there's 1 case out of a million where someone got banned unnecessarily, the mods would unban him / her. But to date, 100% of the banned people deserved it.

For Attention of all people who think that they'll be banned the second they piss off an older member of the board - I say don't worry.
ToB isn't going to tell you what the negative limit for automatic banning is, but you can bet your arse he won't have made it so low that one negrep from a paid subscriber would do it. I bet that you'd have to act like enough of a tit that a sustained negrepping by your peers would follow. It'd take the opinions of a fair number of members to oust you from the forums... and if that many of us don't like you, it's for the best that you don't come back anyway.
Don't let this stop you posting. You can say what you like - just be aware that it might now have consequences, so try to post with flair, wit and relevance.
As a happy aside - I hope that by allowing this franchise to the general board population, we've seen the last of these "I hate the mods you're so mean" threads. They made me puke in the first place... but now there's no excuse. If you don't like what someone says - even a Moderator - negrep them and tell them why you've done it. That's your recourse if you feel hard done by.
All in all, a great idea. Cheers, ToB.

Given my short time here and not really having established myself well enough on this board system I just don't feel good about judging others so to speak. I did one reputation just to learn how to do it (it was a positive reaction.) Perhaps later I will do a bit more but right now I just don't feel I've earned the right to. I know I was given positive reputation out of kindness and I thank those who did it. I apologize to anybody who may be offended or insulted by this post.

You would not get banned for one red mark, like Shapeshifter said--you were able to post that so no worries. I'm not sure but it seems that when one has one green mark under their belt and get's one neg rep it turns red automatically, but it takes up to 3 or more positive reputation points in order to gain another green mark. So, I'm guessing that you would have to get somewhere around 3 more people to neg rep you in order to get banned.

The progression of the numbers of dots is not linear, just because you easily got one red dot doesn't mean you'll get more as easily. The reason people can quickly go from 1 gree dot to 1 red dot is you start out with a rep of 10, to get a red dot you only have to get down to -1 for your rep score (which one user who's been here a while can do) to get auto-banned your rep probably needs to be more like -1000 or more (I never did know what the actualy number was). If memory serves me correctly, to be totally honest, no one has *EVER* been automatically banned because of getting negative reps a few people have been on their way before but they had some additional help because they had done thing that would have gotten them rep system was put in place.
Evboard, where you get banned the old fashioned way, you *earn* it. </Smith-Barney 80's commercial rip-off>

Autobanning only happens when your rep score becomes a very large negative number (let's just assume -1000, which it might or might not be) which no one other than you can see (other than via the mod/admin functions). The score is represented by red dots under your avatar next to all your posts, the number of red dots you would have to have there is something like 10 (again I don't remember exactly) and is very difficult to get a rep that low other than coming here specifically to cause trouble (a la the visitors we had from the Seether board). Receiving netagtive rep comments (that show up in your User CP) by themselves arenothing to worry about unless your reputation score goes very far negative (represented by a lot of red dots under your av).
I'm not sure if that straightens anything out or not, figured I'd add that just in case someone is confusing the red dots from the rep comments and their cumulative effect as reflected under the avatars.

Thank you very much. I'm clear on everything now. A user must have a LOT of neg reps to get banned. I was just nervous, because I don't post here enough to get a lot of positive reps, so I was worried under the new system I could be deleted.

Some people WILL neg rep just to be mean. Many more will pos rep if they agree with you, or like you.
I am somoene who reps ALOT, definitely more positive then negative reps. If you get a neg rep you feel is unfair, or it seems like someone or a group are ganging up on you, report it to a mod. Also, you may be upset that you got a neg rep, but look at what it says. Perhaps they are giving you advice on how to post better.

because the green dot under your name when you post has to do with your total amount of rep points, which is listed in your user cp. one positive rep does not equal one green dot. the more points you have, the more points your rep is worth to other people.
i think once you get 100 rep points you'll get your second green dot.

I want to know if someone got over 100 or 200 negative reps?
I want to find out if someone got more neg reps then me?
Thanks.
I think the border for getting banned should be around -300 or i dont know,
it depends on how many negative reps you get per negative rep. if you get like 20 then -300 should be a border. when i get a negative rep i get 20 negative reputation points.
so if you want to not get banned better not piss someone.

There's only one person (http://evboard.com/member.php?u=41999) on the members list that has a lower reputation than you. But banned people don't show up on the user list so it's possible there are people with lower reps who have been permabanned. As for the how many negative reps you get per negative rep, it depends on who neg reps you. The higher the person's rep, the more "damage" they can do to your rep, but those who have a bad or no rep will hardly make a dent.

I have gotten two neg reps, both from the same person, just because their opinion was different than mine, and they didn't agree with me. I thought that was low, especially as they are are my only neg reps.
How do we give out grey dots? As far as I can see, we can only do green or red...and how many green dots do we need to get another green dot show up in our posts? I thought it was four, I think I was like, one green away from another green dot, then I got a neg rep, and my dots stayed the same, but it took about 8 green reps for me to gain another green.
So does a red dot make it harder to get more green dots?

There is no set number (at least not that means anything that anyone can see directly. Basically whenever someone reps you the amount it changes your reputation is based on what their reputation is. So a rep from Dhamma would be worth maybe more then 10 reps all from low rep users (but high enough that they no longer give gray dots). So the amount your reputation score goes up can vary based on that. Then the number of reputation points it takes to get another green in your posts isn't a fixed number, IIRC it could be set up that you get your second dot at 100 and your third green dot at a reputation score of 500.
So does a red dot make it harder to get more green dots?
Yes, sort of. If you have a reputation of 90 and you get a neg rep that is worth -10 your score will then be 80, which means if we assume you were tring to get to 100 that you're now 20 away instead of 10.
But the important question is.... why do you care? As long as you don't have a red dot (or dots) under your avatar when you post, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. And even if you did have a negative rep the odds of it leading to you getting banned based solely on your reputation are very, very slim.
It's just a stupid message board on the internet, get over it.
Ceez
08-25-2006, 08:16 AM
The "levels" of green dots in your profile depend on the number value accumulated from all the positive reps you've gotten. The rate at which you "advance" to the next level of rep depends on the people repping you. For example, let's just say that the "distance" from one green dot to the second is 100 rep points. It would take 10 reps from 10 n00bs with a rep power of 10 points per rep to get you to that next dot. However, it would take 2 reps from 2 veterans each with a rep power of 50 points per rep to get you those 100 rep points you need for your next dot.
I'm not EXACTLY positive if that's how it works but that's just what I've observed from my time here. In any case, I hope you actually understood that! :p
EDIT: What ^^he^^ said. :D

There was an issue with this a couple of months ago. A user by the name of Gothik ruined a game and people mass ganged up on his/her reputation. Sure, s/he flipped out over that, but I saw him/her apologize for it and next thing you know he was banned.
Would that classify as mass-ganging up or was he just too late to apologize? I mean I'm not saying bring the poor bastard back, cause that game is fun to watch, but still, cruelty can only go so far. Then it's pure homocide.

Gothik didn't just mess up a game. He made a lot of rude posts and such, and that's why he was negged.

AFAIK, no one "ganged" up on Gothik. It started with one post in a game thread that he got negged for then he decided to come back in that thread and start bitching about it. Which amounted to off topic posts which got him negged again. I was one of the pople that negged him, but it was done totally as an individual and only once. If you're an idiot then lots of people will get annoyed with you, that doesn't make it "ganging up" on anyone.
Sure, s/he flipped out over that, but I saw him/her apologize for it and next thing you know he was banned.

Last I remember of Gothik's posts he was still making off topic posts bitching about getting neg repped, he also proceed go to other threads elsewhere on the board bitching about the neg reps at which point I reported one of his posts and shortly afterwards he was gone. (I woudln't be suprised if he had already attracted the attention of the mods at this point anyway). The neg reputation points didn't cause his banning, his off the handle reaction to getting negative reputation points did.
At least two of the Mods (possibly more) had come into the thread and had a look at what all he posted (Gil and Tracie both posted in the thread although Gil's posts were deleted when Tracie cleaned up the thread to get the game back on track). I wouldn't be suprised if there was even more that went on other than what was seen in the public posts.
To wrap it up with meaphors
Gothik made a mountain out of a mole hill and then proceeded to dig his own grave.
If he had simply made a post and negged for it and brought it up at the appropriate place if he had questions about it that would have been the end of it. There's been a few occurances before of people making one bad post getting negged for it and being given second chances (with their reps reset).

Considering that WASN'T Gothik himself.
First off, he logged in at school and found 7 negs from the same post, or around there, and THEN he started complaining about it because nobody would take care of it. He posted in site feedback before going to public posting. And last I checked the Whine Section is a perfectly appropriate place to post a situation like that in.
Secondly, he told a friend to mind his account and the friend messed things up for him, and he as well as a friend tried telling you that but you wouldn't listen. And his friend made the new accoutn after trying to clarify this and you banned him after two people flat-out told you the truth.
But I'm not a mod, so just ignore my rant.
EDIT: Also, I'll just shut up now. No sense arguing with a mod.
Hail the mod.
P.S. Did he get a polite private message saying where he went wrong and to stop, or was it sudden bannage?

Hi Gothik! You can cut the shit with the 'my friend' routine now. You made a couple of really stupid posts that got you negged in short order. You deleted one yourself, and I deleted another. Within hours, you go bitch and call everyone a noob who negged you, in the same thread. I find no record of a post you made in any site feedback regarding the situation. Then you go on 'noobs' bitchrant number 2. Shortly thereafter you say such classy things as this in the thread:
I hope you choke on the picture and get paper cuts in your throat hole (but not die because your over-reactions are funny)
You then proceed to bitch about it and mention it in 6 more posts in hours to come, with another such fancy quote as:
Alright I F*cking Get It Your A Bunch Of F*cking Noobs Who Cant Take A G*ddamn Joke Now Shut The F*ck Up
Also, no way in hell is it our problem if you give your account to a friend for them to tend to it. What the hell is that anyway? How about you log out and just not use the board while you're not using the board? Sounds like an all-star plan to me.
Hail the mod.
Yes. HAIL THE MOD.
Now GTFO.

The higher the person's rep, the more "damage" they can do to your rep, but those who have a bad or no rep will hardly make a dent.
haha thanks man!
I cant relate to her, checked her posts out.

So, i'm not the champion.thats great.
There was someone a while back, MoulinRougefrk, or something like that, who like, asked for negative rep. It was kind of amusing. He got banned, though.
Oh, hi Rory! Are you planning to put another bullet in me?

It's not a big funny game to see how much negative rep you can get. Being a retarded jackass is what we hope people would try to avoid on this board. I just looked over a bunch of your posts that you got negged for and they're really, really idiotic. Whatever you're trying to get started with Rory here sure isn't helping either. Either learn to use your brain before you post, or just shut up. If you don't feel like doing either of those, I really don't think anyone is going to feel a sense of loss if I ban you.

...Um, sorry to interrupt the drama here, but I was just wondering if there was a way to view reps that you got a long time ago that no longer show up on your User CP.
I got a really nice one a long way back that I liked, but I can't see it anymore. I meant to ask months ago but I forgot. No big deal if you can't; I was just wondering.

The only people that can see reputation other than the 10 currently visible to you on the User CP are moderators.
Nooo. I wish him and his e-wife (http://www.evboard.com/showpost.php?p=969469&postcount=4) all the best. Maybe if we all pitch in we can get him something besides a cracker jack box ring <3.

LMAO. NICE one Ghetto.
I have a quick question - out of curiosity. For moderators then... is it just that they're able to see a longer list of their past reps? Like an extra ten or so? And is there a reason behind that. I thought that was kind of interesting.

The moderators can go into the reputation system and look at all reputations given. By default it shows everyones, but they can search and give criteria of who gave or who received the rep. SO when someone like Gothik/SexyBeast16 complains about their neg rep they can go in and say, show me every rep that they ever received, or if they get a complaint that a particular user is just neg repping a person for the heck of it they can say show me every rep comment Diamon has ever left. Of both and show every rep that Diamon ever left for Jane. Which makes patterns of abuse very easy to pick up. But that's all over on the Moderator/Admin Control Panel side of things on the user side of things they just see the last 10 reps they received just like any other user.

All your rep can be seen or modified in any way by a mod.
Edit: Also what Diamon said.

Oh yeah and mods can delete any rep comment, change the amount it affects your rep, or just outright set the value of your rep to any given number.

Another point of note: this is only for super moderators. Aqua colored forum mods can't go poking around with people's profiles.
