Their debut cd has ben out I think like 3 or 4 months, just picked it up,

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE(WHICH IS PROBABLY MOST OF Y'ALL)

The Song "Bottom of a Bottle" thats them

"Silhouettes" and "Eraser" are the best songs on the cd, its well worth getting!

anyone else get it or heard them before?

EDIT: forgot another great song "Your Way" :D

I meant to make a post on these guys. Not because I like them, but to see if anyone else hates them as much as I do. I can't stand Bottom Of A Bottle, and the radio can't be turned on without hearing it. I hope they're quickly forgotten as one-hit-wonders, I don't think I could take another song from them.

they are a one hit wonder more or less, but I do really dig "Bottom Of A Bottle". Its got some great lyrics. Screw what Ef says about it. lol
I also like "For You" off the CD. It's got some powerful lyrics too.

they overplay "bottom of the bottle" on Radio 104 but it's still a great song and a pretty decent band. i'm really happy that they're getting recognition on radio stations and i even saw them on a rising artist list in some store!

I don't know how you guys get that they're a one hit wonder, I've only heard "Bottom of a Bottle" on All Things Rock on MTV and I've heard it a few times on the local rock/metal station, That song is not even a hit

Prehaps not in Pennsylvania, but here you hear it constantly, and apparently in other places as well. Trust me, it's big. Still stupid, but big. Good to know Ben doesn't like it. Was this in some new interview I missed?

I caught them Monday night at Juanita's in Little Rock with Modern Day John opening up the show.

I've hated "Bottom Of A Bottle" from the first moment I heard it on the radio. Their live show highlights how much SES sounds like Nirvana except, you know, without all that genius and talent baggage.

That said, I feel really bad trashing them because I got to meet them briefly and they are without a doubt three of the nicest, most down to earth, and "un-rockstar" nationally recognized touring musicians I have ever had the pleasure to get acquainted with. And their drummer is uber-hot.

I feel the same way about Cauterize, although I never met the band their sound guy is all kinds of nice, I really tried to enjoy them but I just can't.

lol, this thread actually did not come up when i searched for SES. A lot of thigns don't when I search for them anymore. Even when I search for an author..

But that's besides the point.

I'm awakening this thread.

Does anyone plan on attending this tour? They have a few shows with Trapt and that makes me ever so excited, because I really like them!

Bottom of a Bottle is in HEAVY rotation on the radio (i.e. they play it almost EVERY hour) How can you consider them indie or even "small"??

i wish that our stations would start playing them

Decent cd, but I think it would be better if they ditched the "my parents hate me" deal that is so common in music these days. "this is war" is one of the better tracks, definetly stands out as one of the best written ones.

I got the CD a couple weeks after it came out, but the place I was visiting only had a Wal*Mart. As some of you know, all of their cd's are pretty much edited and I wanted a CD so bad I didnt think of that. I couldn't stand not hearing the damn words so I just had someone downloaded it and gave the original to my brother. It's good, but I don't think I'd buy it over downloading it now. With This Knife was always my favorite song on the album and so was This Is War.

Funny how many people hate them, I think they positively rock. And the truly are some of the nicest rockstars I've ever met (pretend you didn't just hear me say the same thing about Silvertide ;) ). They still have a comment board at their site where they reply to fans, and they're awesome live. I saw them last year with Evanescence on Edgefest :p . And they can still be considered a small band because although a lot of people have heard their stuff, not a lot of people know who they are. That's my opinion, of course. My favorite songs are Silhouettes, Nowhere Kids, Eraser, and This is War. I do agree that Bottem of a Bottle was overplayed, I never had any particular affection for that song.

I think they're okay...I read the lyrics before I bought the CD and I thought some of them were beautiful. heh. heh. The music is okay. I agree that they sing to much "i hate my family", "I'm living in a dysfunctional family" junk. Although I love 'I Want My Life'. And 'The Other Side' and 'Your Way'. And 'Eraser' is a cool way to end the CD.

The only song I've heard is the one on the Punisher soundtrack, Finding Myself. I love this song its so .... I don't know, sad, regrettful. I can't think of the right word.
Has anyone seen Psycho? The song reminds me of the character called Norman. I'm thinking of making a short film for this song, so yeh, I love it.
Can you get the album in Australia?

*dances* You wanna know what Derek's (the drummer's) favorite TV shows are? Family Guy, South Park, Mr. Show, Family Matters, and Seinfield. You wanna know how I know? 'Cause Derek told me! *giggles like a small child* Oooh, I love SES, they're so awesome to their fans!!!

I sound like such an egotistical bitch, but DEAR GODS Derek knows how to brighten my day! I love shoutouts, they totally own :D :D :D :D :D :D

For anyone who doesn't keep up with the journal entries, they now have a Myspace account! They haven't accepted my friendship offer yet, I really hope they will....

I got their cd almost as soon as it came out, and I thought they had a very original sound. I love them. My favorite songs are "With this Knife" and "This is War". I can't wait for more from them. I can really relate to a lot of the lyrics, and I can't get enough!

I really like Silluette (I can't spell for shit, don't throw rocks at me). It's like Staind's It's Been A While, just bursting with emotion, you can really feel his fear and sadness. I love songs that make you feel like the band and singers are your oldest friends, you completely understand them, like they are talking directly to you. for you. that's how Smile Empty Soul makes me feel. My Mom and sis can't stand them but whatever.

Smile Empty Soul is another great band out there, though they are kinda soft. But they have good messages out there like even if your parents weren't good people that doesn't mean you won't be, which is why I think they are such a cool band. They are like a very, extremely soft version of slipknot, singing about how you should be who you are, despite your parents and church. :)

This thread got blasted by the crash.

Let's take you through a timeline of events.

*Holes scheduled to be the first single off of Anxiety which was to see release in August (I believe the same week as Chapter V (August 9))
*Don't Need You switched to first single, album pushed back to September.
*Don't Need You not getting much airplay, tour with Cold and Flyleaf announced.
*Album recently pushed back to 2006.

As a result of all of this apparently, Smile Empty Soul will be leaving Lava Records and quite frankly, I doubt Anxiety will ever see release after the lead singer Sean Danielson has apparently been asking SES fans to just download the album.
