This band is beyond awesome you guys!!

These guys just got signed to Wind-Up! Check them out and please listen to the music on their site www.stratadirect.com. They have their own little player but on www.strataonline.com there are a few tracks that are all acoustic (they rock too) on there. They have alot of MP3s on mp3.com too! (http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/5/downside.html)

When Sheep and I went to the show last week at the Voodoo Lounge, after their set I asked Eric, the vocalist, how it felt to be Label mates with Evanescence. He paused slightly and said, "Uh, It feels great!" He was sweet. I can't wait to see them again at a show. Their stage presence was very strong.

Before they played, the band before them was having some technical diffculties and their bassist ended up walking off stage, throwing his bass down on the stage. When Eric got the mic he said something along the extent of your band being a marriage and with it getting tough sometimes you gotta work through it and that he hoped they worked out their differences. I wish more bands could have that outlook.

They will be around along time. I can feel it.

One of my friends did that once. He played a few notes, got frustrated, threw his guitar down, and stormed offstage.
After a very uncomfortable pause, the drummer kicked into a badass solo.

It was sweet.

Yeah they all had the Strokes haircut. All five of them. At one point during the only song they got through, I saw ALL FIVE OF THEM brush their hair out of their eyes in less than a minute.

<------

They have been around a long time but known as Downside. I still don't understand why they had to change their name when they got signed. But anyhow, the new album is awesome. I wonder how it's doing on the charts.

I heard they had to cancel their tour they were on with Nonpoint cause Eric got a pollyp on his vocal chords? No good.

In the news....
California rockers Strata don't exactly have Evanescence envy, but the group wouldn't mind if "Never There (She Stabs)," which is the first single from the soundtrack for "Elektra" (Wind-Up), blows up like Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" did two years ago on the "Daredevil" companion album. "We try not to think about stuff like that," says Strata frontman Eric Victorino. "I think Evanescence has some sort of appeal that we just don't have. But it'll be cool if the soundtrack does help to launch us a little more."

"Never There" appears on Strata's self-titled debut and also was included on last year's soundtrack for "The Punisher." Victorino notes that "it's obviously a breakup song" and feels that it works well with "Elektra" even though it wasn't written specifically for the film. "It looks like this movie can actually stand on its own," he says. source: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/1105612483208372.xml

We only have 1 station :(.

Same format as WHFS. It's WXRK.

But on the brightside Xtina, you still have 2 stations on which Strata can possibly get major play.

There's WIYY in Baltimore and there's WWDC in Washington DC.

I think they'd be more likely to get played on WIYY based on the playlist of their station. Strata is definitely Active Rock/Mainstream Rock. So try there first. Although since it is a big market, I have a feeling that they'll hold Strata off until it gets big in smaller markets first.

and wiyy can suck my metaphorical penis. they're being really jerky about the whole whfs thing, and they almost never play good music :/

I can't believe I only just found this thread. haha b00bs said that before. I found out about these guys a while back and joined one of their message boards but I forgot about them. I love the songs off Falling Asleep (Downside) and their self titled album but seeing as I'm in Aussie land I knew there wasn't much of a chance of finding their albums over here. I hope they get to tour here and I'm glad they made the first single off Elektra.

How A Breakup, Existential Angst And Acid Reflux Inspired Strata's New Single
01.13.2005 8:31 PM EST

'Never There' is featured on just-released 'Elektra' soundtrack.

Strata's Eric Victorino channeled three kinds of pain into the band's single "Never There," which is featured on the just-released soundtrack to "Elektra."

The first is your garden-variety bad breakup, which soon expanded into the second kind: an existential angst that imbues the song's darkly dramatic lyrics.

"I think the reason why musicians write breakup songs is that breakups force you to examine your life," Victorino said. " 'Never There' started as a breakup song and turned into the idea of being in a certain place in your life and realizing you're not even in it. You're just kind of going through the motions."

However, until recently, the singer was suffering from a third and arguably more palpable kind of pain: He spent several months battling a series of ENT ailments that forced the band to cancel a tour last summer (see "Strata Invite Fans To Go Bowling With Them").

Assuming that his sore throats came from constant singing, Victorino ignored the pain for years. "Then I found out I had Ashlee Simpson disease — it was acid reflux," he said. "When they stuck the camera in my throat, it looked like pulverized meat."

On top of that, Victorino had "a whole train wreck of problems" with his sinuses, due to a broken septum, the result of a scuffle in his teenage years. "I was putting extra pressure on my vocal cords to hit notes because I couldn't use my head voice," he explained. "After a year of touring, it really wore on my throat."

After surgery to correct his septum, medication for acid reflux and several weeks off the road, Victorino's head voice is opening up, his throat is mending and his vocal cords are springing back to life.

Still, the singer was glad to give his pipes a break to film an appropriately dark and dreamy video for the song in San Francisco last weekend. Aligned with Victorino's vision of a disaffected soul, director Sean Turrell helped create a video that carries the concept of mental detachment to a visual medium.

"It's like 'Fight Club' without the fighting, just the general feel and social commentary of it," Victorino said. Shot in an office tower, the video combines performance footage with cutaways to a white-collar worker struggling to make sense of his stark, corporate environment, and ultimately questioning his own existence.

For Victorino, it was a vision realized and an inspiring experience. "It was amazing," he said, "like filming a mini-movie, which is the way I think a video should be."

For more on the "Elektra" soundtrack, see " 'Elektra' LP Serves Up Rare Cuts From Evanescence, Jet, Taking Back Sunday," and check out everything else we've got on "Elektra."

I heard these guys on the Elektra soundtrack and they're great. They've just got something... I dunno. The vocals and drums really stood out to me. Poor Eric tho, must have been painful. So he didn't have a polyp then? I hope not, 'cause that's even worse.

i love these guys. i first got into when my buddy Miles was playing them during a roadtrip. then i heard Piece by Piece on the Punisher soundtrack, and that was even better.
