View Full Version : The Birthday Massacre

My other absolute favorite band is The Birthday Massacre. They're a power-pop/synth-rock kinda band. You know, that Orgy-esqu L.A type, only more 80s influenced and from Canada. Think the Missing Persons with heavy Metal guitars and beautiful keyboards.

They also have an award winning flash site, that I personally believe is nothing short of inspiring.

I still say Imagica is a far better name. If I am not mistaken. The Birthday massacre was a name of one of their songs I think entitled Birthday now.

They arent very popular in U.S.

Yeah, but, damnit, they should be. I want to see them live!! >:O!

Yeah, it's called Happy Birthday. It was always my least favorite song, though >: (

I don't know. Imagica was cool, but The Birthday Massacre grows on you after a while. When I first heard it, I just stoped talking about the band because it was so unconfortable to keep saying The Birthday Massacre. Now it just rolls off my tongue.

I have a hard time saying the birthday massacre...like it's wrong. :?

I first heard about Imagica like..uh...a while ago (well hence why I still call them imgaica) I first heard "over" or something like that. I dunno it was a good song. I dont know if their album has been released or anything. I keep forgetting about there site cause it doesnt seem to work in Netscape....

Murd3rTramp
08-21-2003, 12:28 PM
It does. I use Mozilla, which is almost like Netscape [only better], and it works. You just need the Flash plug-in and a good internet connection.

The album should come out this year. They're still in the recording studio. Everyone on the board's hasseling them about getting the CD out! >_<

I'm going to get it the second I hear it's out. The SECOND. Money is no object when it comes to The Birthday Massacre.

Ang3lz

Mozilla sucks :P I keep downloading the stupid plugi-in netscape but it never works...

I'd say their websites is prolly my favourite website. The layout and the noises it's very cool.

Mozilla sucks :P

Bite yo tounge! I used to use Phoenix, but I switched for some reason...heh.

They've come a LONG ways since those days . . . that's when I heard of them, too. Their SECOND CD is due out soon. You should really check out some of their stuff. They rock . . .

Ang3lz
09-09-2003, 07:32 PM
ugh second cd?!?!?!?!?! so then where can I buy the first one?

Guitar Synth kid

It's really hard to get ahold of their old CD. It sold out very quickly. If you join their street team, they offer a full download of the CD.

It's weird I just came across this..

Today my Intro to Music teacher went around the room asking everyone what their favorite band was and the very first girl he called on started talking about how she absolutely loved The Birthday Massacre and everyone kinda looked at her weird cause no one had ever heard of them...I wrote the name down in my notebook so I could check them out, because the way she talked it sounded like something I would like...and now even more reason for me to listen to their stuff ;)

only if you like Deadsy with Orgy with a cute female singer.

Guitar Synth kid
09-19-2003, 05:04 PM
ugh... please don't compare them to deadsy.

tBM has synthrock roots, but their music is so much more, uh, "magical" than those guys. There's just so much more there for you to swim in. It's really dreamy stuff.

Show me your secret ancient sign....

*looks around* - Oh, sorry, did I say that out loud? Woops, my bad...

I LOVE THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE!!!! My good buddy, Aaron (aka "Spron") got me hooked on them about three months ago! You DO know why they had to change their name to “The Birthday Massacre”, don't you? They liked their old name too kids, but unfortunately, some very rude people thought it was too similar to THEIR name. Blah, whatever. So yeah, long story made short. I do enjoy them very much. You can tell they’ve put a lot of time and hard-work into the makings of their songs, which I just love.

i've hearda this band.
i also heard they were planning to go to europe (after all the american fans begging them to go to the US)

one of the band said they might do better over there..
i think they might be bigger in europe to be honest.
when i was in the UK i heard in the shops people playing there music (camden)
goth places.. rarely do i hear them anywhere else.
+ they want to manage themselves. it might be easier

Good band, however all i've heard is clips. But I've heard all of the song "Blue", which I have to say, kicks ass! I love how the music is childish and sweet and then it goes into this rock music with the girl's raspy voice- o i love it! :D

heh. i was going to 'up' this thread when my violet cd arrived, but amazon haven't even dispatched it yet :( no stores seem to sell it here in the uk, so i'll have to wait until next week at this rate.

http://www.nothingandnowhere.com
http://www.myspace.com/thebirthdaymassacre

two links, the first is an AMAZING flash site with some song samples etc. the myspace link has three full songs (blue, happy birthday and violet - they rule :p ), which is where i heard them and then saw the video on the link in the previous post.

*waits impatiently for the cd*

I bought Violet when they priginally released it. Guess I'm gonna have to buy it again. *sigh* To many CDs out or coming out and not the money to spend.

Glad to see they finally got signed over here as well.

That site is amazing, so original.

Susurrus introduced me to TBM a while ago and last week I bought the re-release of Violet, it's definately become one of my favourite albums even though I only received it in the post this morning.

My favourite songs from the album so far are Happy Birthday and Holiday, but seeing as I've only heard it twice, I'm sure I'll have others soon enough.

The thing I like about TBM is their originality, I've never heard anything quite like them. You could say they're an aquired taste, but if you like sounds from the 80's then give them a try.

Btw, I've found 2 other "The Birthday Massacre" threads here (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=15611&highlight=birthday+massacre) and here (http://www.evboard.com/showthread.php?t=19814&highlight=birthday+massacre).

i got my cd about a week after the re-release date, i.e. metropolis's release. the first songs i heard were on that myspace link, but i also love lovers end, horror show, play dead, video kid, nevermind, etc. well the other two non-instrumental songs are the dream and holiday, that's all of them, haha. great stuff. i also like the old music too, all those demos, even the never ending story cover!

i think their original name "imagica" sums them up best, shame they couldn't keep it, but hey, their name now is cool too.

Just wondering if anybody listens to them. I think they're an exceptional band, and was hoping to find some other TBM fans here. They also have some pretty cool artwork, too.

Anybody heard of 'em?

I heard of this band in a magazine.. after finding out that they were Canadian... from the same city as me (I think..) and that they dressed really awesomely.... AND that their music was supposed to be really great, I decided that I should listen to them.

Problem is, I have no where to listen to them!!!!!!! And, those links you so sweetly put up won't work! Not on my dumb meaniehead computer, though. Any ideas??

Thanks, Knish:)

Wahoo! Yep, it's Chibi and I!

I first heard of TBM when they opened up for Mindless Self Indulgence last year... I forget what day it was. I was working at the Mixer and liked them so I checked out their stuff, pretty damn cool!

This was taken at their show in Toronto this past April 13th at the Funhaus (My favourite club, yay!). The show was awesome... my friend and I had front row positions at the stage and it was great.

Ending of 'Broken' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWrc5Y-qeRE)
Part of 'Happy Birthday' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJ1qq20cOLM)

Jeez, it seems like I've got YouTube videos for almost everything nowadays, lol...

I like TBM very much, but I never saw them live. But my brother was at the M'era Luna Festival in Hildesheim. They should have made a very great performance.

Good songs by TBM are easy to find, they're an exceptional band. I recommend Happy Birthday, Horror Show, Blue, Black, Holiday, Kill the Lights, Goodnight, Falling Down, Red Stars, Under the Stairs, Night time, To Die For, and go to www.nothingandnowhere.com and just listen to the ambiance theme that comes up, it's awesome.

I've seen them twice in concert now, one in April of 06' while they were promoting their Violet album, and one in October of 07' while they were promoting their Walking With Strangers album. They kick ass in concert. The way they perform their songs...it's so unique, it just makes you want to jump as high as you can to the beat (which that's what the fans do, anyway.) Chibi's vocals are as good live as they are on their albums, as well, and they're really involved with the fans.

I'll never miss TBM when they tour, EVER!
