Hey guys, really, they arent good, not of all.... trust me... first time when I heard them, was early 90s some stupid finnish tv show "Passi ja hammasharja" and they played Chostbusters theme song... ohh, it was terrible! And their fake-"some-kind-of-gothig-pop"-style imago... ohh it makes me laugh... No ones dont like them in Finland anymore, only some lil teen girls... hahaha... at the first them was some new... but it was at first... So wanna u be some f***** stupid teen girl? "Ohh, I love Lauri (btw, its my name too :D ) hes so... special" :DDD Listen him voice... its like woman... screaming... ohh, it makes a bad taste headache... And at the end, sorry, if u like them really... I dont... No!
Have a nice day...

t.A.T.u. fan with love... forever

Rasmus they are like a Gothc Good Charlotte a big no no. Billy Talent are way better.

His voice is too N'syncy to be in a rock band. Its too poppy.

And I don't like them at all.

But I think they're good. I like the songs, and the videos pretty much.
I'm going to buy Dead Letters... someday. And probably I'm going to their concert on 27th May. I hope so!

I'd love to screw your ass backwards on your head and make it look like you sprouted abnormal Mickey Mouse ears, but to each his own. The Rasmus are a good band. Like Evanescence, they're misconstrued as goth because Lauri wears black make-up. But their music is actually quite good and Dead Letters sounds promising. I'm going to buy it when it comes out here.

this may be a misheard lyric, but on f-f-f-falling, does he sing in the chorus "i can't get enough" or "i can't get it up"....i must say it sounds a lot like the latter, hmmmmm

I really like the one Rasmus' song. It's "Funeral song (the resurection)". This song have so beautiful melody, it's very sad (for me), and I must say i don't know very good text of this song, but the melody is adequate for me.

I really like The Rasmus, they're kinda different. In the shadows reminds me of BMTL when it was first released as in it was different from the usual UK music (if that makes any sense to anyone i'll be very impressed).

The first time I heard 'in The Shadows', I liked it. Then after hearing it a few more times, it seemed just... blah. Now it sounds like Lavigne-style pop-rock. What really annoys me is that people are calling it a 'goth track', when there's now't even remotely 'dark' about it, unless you take the title literally of course. That song just annoys me now.

Another thing that annoys me is that 'Rasmus' is also a exchange studant style program. It doesn't bode well when a band shares the same name as a studant exchange program.

Sorry to re-surface this thread but, I bought this cd today just to check them out and I fell in love with it.

In the Shadows, Still Standing, In My Life, Time to Burn, Not like the other Girls, The One I love, Funeral Song and F-F-Falling are the ones that I liked best.

For some reason, The lead singer's voice reminds me of Bryan Adams, I <3 Bryan Adams.

The only gripe about this cd (Dead Letters) that I have is that the songs are just too short!

I've noticed from researching them of that big change. It's one of the demands of music now though. Whatever works for them....

I find it very weird that not one band can be labeled 'goth' in the music industry hardly. It is very hard to be let in on such a label. The kids are too judgemental about it or something. They are some very obvious 'wannabes' today such as Good Charlotte, but atleast the Rasmus music fits their style lyrically.

I agree lauri has an interesting voice and their songs are interesting. I have only heard the songs on that CD no other songs i might find some one who has another Cd of theirs to listern to. But the Rasmas are good to listern to if you feel in the mood. I like their songs but haven't listern to the CD in a while.

But they are not that big in Australia most people are like 'the who?...' and the only song that i have heard beeing played on the radio is 'In the Shadows' which is the song that made me buy the CD. But for some reason i have gone off that song. but their still good

By now they are not really independent underground anymore, are they? I have listened to them for the first time in spring 2003 and In the Shadows got me hooked up. After a while I bought all their albums and went to see them live. I have to say that their strength definitely lies in the live gigs. They are able to deliver so much power that you return home completely bouncy (even more if they wouldn't end their shows with 'Funeral Song' *sighs*). And their lyrics are very deep and meaningful, even in the old songs when Lauri (the singer and songwriter) tries to hide that behind fun melodies.

Hey, I was listening to all what I have on my PC from The Rasmus...
There is a song... Rauk... Rask... ok, let me look for the title :p

Rakkauslaulu

This song is theirs?? It doesn't seem but... If you know it ;)

Rakkaslaulu is Finnish and means 'love song'. Their record company wanted to force them to sing in Finnish but they refused to because they thought that sucked and so they made this song as a parody... they basically sing crap like 'You never said you loved me' and 'She smiled at me and showed me THIS' and on this Lauri used to hold his hands up and gesture the 'let's fuck' thingy with his two hands. It's all pretty much senseless and written just for fun.

The Rasmus ROCK live!!
I saw them last summer on a festival that Nokia held in Thessaloniki, Greece and they were awesome!! I've never seen such a great show in my life. It was nothing fancy but the guys especially Lauri and Eero had soooo much energy! I wish I could see them again..

Btw has anyone got the DVD "Live letters" ? I can't seem to find it here in Greece.. maybe it's not imported yet.. but anyway.. if anyone has it, please let me know if it's worth buying..

Here are two of my fave photos that I took (I resized them a bit otherwize they would take quite a while to load):

I think they must be by far the best live band I've seen. I saw them in Cologne 2003 and in Liseberg (Gothenburg/Sweden), Cologne and London in 2004 and it was worth waiting and travelling. They have no big show but basically just do their thing and Lauri has an amazing live voice. I think that Pauli has developped a lot since 2003. He is so outgoing now and really funny.

I have it. The gig is okay-ish, I would have preferred one of their own ones so that we could see the atmosphere better. This was from a festival - probably so that they have more people in the audience. But they play all songs, don't worry about that one. The tour this year was much better anyway from the songs they played so I would have preferred that as DVD. The bonus features are kinda cool. There is a demo version of ITS. The first ever presentation for their record company. I can recommand that bit.

@Dani_Insane:

Thanx a lot for the info on the DVD.. I hope that they'll import it really soon here in Greece.. I'll most definately buy it since I became a bit obsessed with the band after the gig..
Also thanx for liking my photos :) The truth is that I am very interested in collecting photos from Rasmus esp. Lauri but I couldn't find anyone to trade with me since my photos are only live (I don't own any b'stage pix :( ) and are digital.. so it costs quite a bit to print them on paper :(

You can order it at www.cdon.com as far as I know. I ordered it directly from Sweden because it was released earlier than in Germany. I have tons of pics on the computer from the international forum (www.therasmusforum.com) but it's down at the moment due to server problems.

I liked them when they first came out.

but they came to Reading rock festival and got booed off stage. ;_;
I was really upset to hear that the majority of people DISPISE Them.
o_o
so much so they threw things at them while onstage! they even injured a band memeber! (it was on thier official site a while ago)

how mean is that?

People just won't give them a chance and I don't understand why!

Some people are just pathetic...
The Rasmus is quite a big name in Finland since 1996. If some people don't like their music, that's fine. I can't say I love all bands, but I wouldn't throw stuff at them. If people can't appreciate some things and respect the artist, well what can I say? I think they should.. FORK themselves :D

Lauri's voice sounds like Nick carter's voice to me...

You guys are right: they are known for changes in style, it is audible between every single album, I think. My favourite one was INTO, to me the songs in Dead Letters sounded too much alike but then again I like the songs still... My favourite on DL was also In My Life because it is so energetic. But it was not the last single in every country, you know? In Finland, in fact, it was the first. So you cannot really draw conclusions from that regarding the new album.

I'm very curious about the track with Apocalyptica!

I've always hesitated about this band. Why the fuck would they playback over and over again? They can't be that bad. They're messing with their reputation as artists. I'd have more respect for them if they played live. Even if they're not great at it.

However, I don't hate them. I just think it's a shame :)

Ok for those who don't know Sail Away is the Next Single, and is out now
There are two versions of the single one a two track single and the other a 4 track enhanced maxi..
Here's what Lauri had to say:

Lauri about the song 'Sail Away'
"'Sail Away' is a different kind of track on this album. It started off as a very simple camp-fire song. I remember playing this song to the guys in the rehearsal room, just sitting on the floor, and they were like 'what is this song, this sounds soo good?' and I said oh, it's just one of those 'pussy' songs, and they said 'oh, this is really beautiful, we must do this song, and we must keep it really simple' and that's what happened. The lyrics are about what happens in situation when love runs out."

Lauri about the video Sail Away
"The video for new single 'Sail Away' was shot in Latvia, on the 19th & 20th September. The Rasmus perform the song, and we are getting totally sanded by a sandstorm. Part of the video was shot at the vast and beautiful beaches at Mersraga Baka, 110 km North of Riga, where I am walking past some surreal scenes, singing my heart out, while a giant cloud of sand is approaching... The video was directed by the young Berlin team Mathias Vielsäcker & Christoph Mangler, www.twodirectors.com. The production had a crew of German, Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Russian and Finnish people.
We went straight from the Riga airport to the production office where we had to meet the directors and go through the whole schedule. On Day One all the scenes in the beach house were taken, and the house was actually an old barn out on the Latvian countryside. The band did endless performance takes with and without the sandstorm... Late at night, we got sand make-up for the special effects shots at the end of the video. When the daughter of the man who owned the barn tried to tell her friends at school that The Rasmus were doing a video in their barn, they did not believe her... The whole band stayed at a spa hotel in Jurmala, where we could do some serious sauna sessions, salty, steamy, hot... On Day Two, we went to Mersraga Baka, a beautiful beach with miles and miles of white sand. I did my performance shots, walking on the beach. Everything went according to plans, and the weather was perfect for the shoot, with dramatic clouds in the sky - but no rain. We also took the opportunity to do some new photos together with the talented Austrian photographer Ingo Pertramer. It was a cool experience to do the video and to get to see a bit of Latvia."

I can't really understand. I saw them 2 weeks ago and their concert seriously rocked, we even had an acoustic set with old songs.
Even my sister who doesn't like them was impressed.
Well, that's just my opinion... But I will go to their concert each time they will come back in my town.

wow, hell, they were good live... I didn't like the new album that much at first but live they showed me how much they still rock. Awesome. Tracks like Last Generation that don't really seem too 'sparkling' were the highlights of the show. I loved the guitars in that one. I can just give everybody the advice: get tickets if you can! It's definitely worth it!

This is kind of random butdoesn't it seem like most of the really good metal bands com from Finland? Examples:
1.Nightwish
2.Apocalyptica
3.The Rasmus
4.HIM

Well *coughs* they are finnish and i love them... I have been to their concerts twice and they were so good in performance... And they are especially so good in covering songs, You guys shoul hear 'play dead' by Bjork... I am crazy about Bjork and i thought noone could ever dare to cover her songs and end up with a great outcome just like TR's... The Rasmus are really good, though they are more likely to do 80's music... Which is fine with me actually... I like 80's as well... :)

I'm going to post in this thread, although I think The Rasmus sucks. A lot. What I like is their music before they added The in front of their name. The first three albums (Peep, Playboys and Hellofatester) were absolutely amazing. They had a nice funky thing going on, but then for some reason they started to do generic pop/rock songs. It's really sad :(

I'm not here to flame, but they changed their style so completely I'd almost consider them as different band.

they're not generic pop/pop rock band, but i think this changed can makes them become famous,so i think it's a good things.but i agree with u they have alot funky songs on the 3 older albums.

I really can't agree with that. I don't think that any band should change their style for fame. The music should be done for the artists themselves, not for the fans.

my opinion of this video

i think the director just combine First day of my life/Guilty/No fear/In my life & sail away, they dont have any "new"idea of this video, even i love the idea of the planet(Mars),but just too boring for me.actually they can put a lot of intersting things on the video(like the real shot scene, someone take a shot or have some bleeding scenes),but they don't.

Hi there,

Well I heard this band and saw them live for the first time last night. They are playing 3 gigs here in South Africa. I have to say that I really enjoyed their music and won one of their cd's. I have not yet listened to the album yet as I am catching up on some sleep, the concert lasted 12 hours, and then went to an afterparty and got home at 4am this morning. Amongst the Rasmus, was Seether, Collective Soul, Simple plan and Metallica, and many more.

An awesome day:D

Ive been to one concert and have all their albums accept for "Hellofatester" and "Dead Letters". They are just as great live as they are on the records. I really admire them, the lead singer, Lauri, is only 26 (Am I right) and they have already released 6 albums!! ;)

Errant Soul
04-18-2006, 10:39 AM
The Rasmus have released 5 albums

Peep
Playboys
Hellofatester
Into
Dead Letters
Hide From The Sun

I've seen them a few times in concert (I even have Lauri's towel!) I must say they put on a great show. I like the cover versions they do.

By the way whoever said that they were using the goth image to promote themselves is slightly mistaken. After Into, the band were naturally progressing towards a heavier sound (remember they were signed at 15, so they were only kids). Their 1st three albums are crap, but you can see with Into how their sound was changing...getting darker, heavier, and more mature. They had a disagreement with their record label over this and they then signed to an Indie label and released Dead Letters. If they were so commercial then why did they leave a major label, when they were asked to compromise their music for a more mainstream sound.

Yeah I agree, the new album is great..If you look at their style you can tell that they are more dark and serious than they were before. They've gone from party-rock to hardrock and almost a bit goth...both styles worked out great for them. I think that they should have a world wide "The Rasmus old-school tour" sometime, that would be awsome:D :)

I'm surprised I didn't see you, I was at both the Dublin gigs and the Belfast one. The Belfast one was amazing, only about 100-120 people at the concert at most, in a tiny venue, with the band spilling over the stage edge.:D
