I guess you could say something about, how because Maori are now a minority group (in terms of ethnicity), a lot feel them feel they have to conform to Western society, and therefore as a side effect, lose their own culture.

But it also depends on how you define 'kiwi culture.' I think there's alot of aspects of both Western and Maori culture that have been combined to give us our special one-of-a-kind kiwi culture...but that's probably more an argument for the negative side...

Of course, I'm neither a debater or a specialist in cultures and sociology, so this could all be wrong...:p

I'm not a huge fan of netball but I watch quite a lot. I watched a little bit of the final but I had a basketball game, I knew who was going to win, but I wanted the flames to win. Hehe i had to do a speech for english last week it was meant to be 3 mins aswell so i decided to try and make it 4 mins so if I talked fast it would still be over 3 mins and i timed myself practicing and it was 4:15 mins so here i am thinkin it would only just be 3 mins on the day. but i quickly added some stuff last minute and when i finally did it i took 5:37 mins hehe :D

It went so well! My teacher loved it so much! It was funny because I had a drum when I was doing it as a prop and it was like part of my speech, and when my name got drawn out of the hat my teacher was like ok we are going to have to wait a couple of minutes because Emily has to go and get a drum from the music room and the class was like what? It was funny! but the class loved the bit where I talked about how I got my drum teacher in trouble with noise control hehe, it went pretty well. Now I have to finish writing my debate fun fun. I get half a day off tomorow because of parent teacher interviews so yay for me! Anyway how are we all today?

Well, the point of this new NZ thread is so us kiwis who are deathly afraid of the pre existing Kiwi thread can actually make posts relevant to whats going.

In the other thread, when a new Kiwi comes along, they usually end up getting scared away coz everyone is too busy postwhoring and ignores them. Or when someone wants to say something relevant to the NZ haps, it usually gets lost in the thread and after a while its like, you can't be bothered anymore.

I already know of a couple of kiwis who were here way before me who have just given up on posting there. And that sux.

Now, I don't usually bitch about this stuff, but I just feel like this thread is here for a reason and its not here to replace the existing kiwi thread. Think of them as two entirely separate topics (which they are).

Honestly, Suzie summed it up perfectly in the first post of this thread. *heart* teh suz.

Hey all, how is everyone? How are the holidays going? I'm off to my mates house to watch some scary movies! Hopefully not too scary because then I might get scared lol. I just got back from Wellington and the All Blacks game was awesome!!!!!!!!! Although very wet that my pants were absolutelt soaked and me and my sister were waddling out because our pants were so wet and heavy! It was a good game and I got to see them present the Bledislo Cup! I was sooo glad to get into dry clothes and a warm bed afterwards!!!!!! How is everyone?

Goodnight Nurse came to our school the other day and I got to hang out with them and got heaps of photos they were really cool, then I saw them again last night at the rockquest! The bands there weren't that great so it has really inspired me to try and have a go next year and get some good music on that stage!!!!!!!!!

Basically we were losing 18-21 in the last few minutes. Near the end we got an opportunity for a penalty kick which would have caused us to draw 21-21 (penalty conversion worth 3 points). However, we refused the penalty kick and chose to instead play on in the hopes of scoring a try (which would give us at least 5 points).

Anyhow, it looked like we were gonna lose, and we were all saying 'oh man, shouldve taken the penalty kick'...then in the last 20 or so seconds, LITERALLY, we managed to slip past SA defense and get a try. And WE WON!! :eek: :p It was like, one of those OMG DID THAT JUST HAPPEN? kind of things. Was soooo awesome. Had our whole house screaming! :)

Really, it was more exciting on screen than in my explanation. I promise!!

Well LOTR is filmed all around the country and I didn't go on the actual set but I've been to many of the places it was fimed in but a lot of it was also filmed on peoples farms. I've never been overseas so I can't compare our landscape but a lot of it is really pretty, but it's just everyday to me.

YAY September people rock! I went to see Akira Jimbo last night (like the best drummer in the world) and it was sooooo cool! He's from Japan and can't speak English too well but he's so cute and funny! Me and my mates were cracking up and he was amazing! I'm going to go see the movie Village People, anyone seen it?

No BEP for me, but I asked my music teacher about Alicia Keys and we are going to go! I'm so amped! (I always say that, just means I'm excited!). Anyone watch the MTV video awards on Saturday? I had to get my mum to tape them because I was out tramping for the Young New Zealanders Challenge thingy. We had to make our own shelter out of plastic and string and it rained and I was the only one who didn't get wet, because I had a very good spot surrounded by bush and at the top of a slope so the water didn't run down but the people left their rubbish outside and the possums kept me up all night! Plus all the girls screamed when they started getting wet and their shelters were coming down and some were just scared because you can see eveything around you and they were scared of the Blair Witch. We made A shelters and they don't touch the ground so you can see all around you but lucky I was near anyone so I didn't get disturbed by the other girls too much! Ahhh I love the bush life, but one night is enough for me! I'm dreading next year when we do like 3! Ok I'm going to shutup although I could say heaps more!!!!!!!!!!! What has everyone been up to? Haven't heard from you all in a while! We are doing My Immortal in our school house choir competition and I'm busy writing harmonies and I get to play it too! ok now I'm really going to shutup!!!!!!

Yep, I'm planning to go to Big Day Out with some friends. It was great this year, so will hopefully rock again this year.

So has anyone been up to anything interesting? I've just been working and hanging out with friends. Moved into a new house a month ago so have been spending a lot of time relaxing at home.

I'm planning to go to my first BDO so I'm hoping it will be good and that I can pursuade the parental unit to let me go! I had my piano exam on friday and it was sooooooo hard! argh but it went pretty good. The sight reading's time signature was 5/8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah well! Now I got to get through my school exams this week then all my time is going into my band and I'm arranging a choir song for the choir next year.

im just taking a break from study at the moment. i had an exam today for my medical paper and it was so. damn. hard. i learnt all these flow diagrams about renal and cardiovascular control and they didn't ask for ANY of them in the exam. instead they asked all this random stuff that i barely looked at...grrrr. Meh, it was alllll sucky. Anyhow on the bright side, I just got one more exam next week and im all done for the year :p

ooh and just before my friend brought over her new puppy for me to go awwww over. she's sooooo cute and so little!

i think that's all the interesting stuff that has happened today :eek: oh yeah, i got an ipod recently. its very cool :D and that's all.

I thought you had no money and you have an ipod! Lucky girl! I pre ordered the EV DVD the other day and I don't even have a DVD player lol but I know a few ppl who do so when I get I wont be spending much time at home!

For those of you who have heard me whining about finding good band mates I have finally found some! We are getting together in a couple of weeks to have a jam and I'm really excited! These guys are awesome so hopefully it goes good!

What about small parties? I don't go to many parties because I don't like drinking and pathetic people trying to act drunk and "hook up". All my mates give me shit for not going to parties but yeah I don't really like them either. It just depends.

All the parties I've been to have been like that. I had one at my house a few years ago, and most of my friends 'hooked up' with guys, and did marijuana. I came down the stairs, smelt it, and had to lie to my mum about what it was. I haven't had a party since. I've been to them though...it's basically the same. I prefer the small parties, with only a few close friends, drinking while listening to music.

I went into The Warehouse the other day to purchase Anywhere but Home and they had sold out! So I went to Soundz and it was only $24.95! I got soick of waiting for the one I pre ordered so I just brought and watched it and now I'm going to give it to my mate for Christmas because my other one will have arrived lol. YAY NO MORE SCHOOL! (Until next year)

My friend got it for $22. She was going to buy it on it's own, until she saw she could get two CDs for $44, so she bought another copy and gave it to me as a christmas present. Oh yeah :cool:

Quick update of my life..... ummmm got a few people to jam with over the holidays, whilst still writing songs. ummmmm had the biggest shock of my life when my best friend/bf told me he was moving to Auckland to train with the New Zealand yacht squadrum thingy. I've never seen him cry before like that, but it's ok now his parents decided he was too young to live in Auckland by himself so hes not going until university! Anyway not that you cared anyway I just felt the need to put a post in this dead thread.
