View Full Version : Too Many Locked Threads...

Head
01-24-2004, 11:44 PM
I note that around half of the threads on this forum have been locked. This means that one of two things are true. Either,

a) Our moderators have completely lost the plot and are locking every second thread that is opened, or

b) There's been a massive influx of n00bs who have decided to completely disregard all of the FAQ they were directed to when they registered and proceeded to create threads about shit that had been DISCUSSED TO DEATH a thousand times before.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I go for option b.

Look, people, it's not hard.

* You joined this board cos you love the band, like the rest of us. So it's logical to assume that every single fucking question that you could EVER THINK TO ASK has already been asked and/or is currently being discussed. SO USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!! Instructions are given at the top of the forum. Read... Use... Be fulfilled.

* Anything you want to know about Ben? Well, he's gone. There are threads. Search. Read. Be satisfied. There is NOTHING that anyone can say about Ben's departure that hasn't already been said.

*You want to know about Origin? Or other versions of songs on Fallen? Yet again... Use the search button. If you're too stupid to make it work, you don't deserve to know.

* You think the mods have been hard on you? Did that nasty Dev lock your ickle thread?? Then FUCK OFF. The Gabe covered this. read "The way things work around here" at the top of the screen.

* You want to know about anything to do with a band members background/family/relationships/current personal life? TOUGH SHIT. as a rule, we don't do that here. We love the band, we love the music. We do NOT expect to have access to their private lives and affairs. If that's not good enough for you, then you're not the kind of fan we want. You're a fucking STALKER. There are laws about people like you.

If you manage to come up with a valid, original question/topic on any of the above that hasn't already been covered umpteen times, then I for one salute you.

If, on the other hand, your question is about ANY of the above, then it's probably best if you just DON'T FUCKING ASK.

This has been a Public Improvement Broadcast. Thank you.

I know I'm not a mod and I'm probably speaking out of turn, but the warning I'll get is worth it just to stop this inane prattle.

Thank you. I don't have the guts to go about posting a thread like this.

For future reference, because some people can't seem to find these (and I have seen people claim they didn't know about the rules/FAQs or they couldn't find them or they didn't see them)....

The FAQs:
http://www.evboard.com/faq.php

The Rules (which say "READ BEFORE POSTING!" in the subject line, so no excuse):
http://www.evboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=126

The NEW Rules:
http://www.evboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=14873

The Search:
http://www.evboard.com/search.php

The Search Tutorial (because the search is only as smart as the person using it):
http://www.evboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=13481

It will not kill anyone to read/use these. Especially the rules and the new rules, because people are going to be banned left and right if they don't follow them. They are not hard to use/follow.

Just look at how many threads were locked here today... and today I saw someone finally get banned after 12 posts and like, 5 locked threads.

Well said Head!

Pretty much you just summed up what we were all thinking. I have also noticed the high "X" increase.

It's not really all that much for everyone to read
this (http://www.evboard.com/faq.php) or this (http://www.evboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=14873) every once in a while to make sure nothings changed...

Edited: LOL! Hey krys, you beat me to it

Se now, thats how you make a thread.....! But yeah, even I´ve noticed it and I´ve only been here 3 months.... I´ve never ever had a thread locked... You know why...? Cause I´m smart and READ what to do and what NOT to do....

Good one Head...! ;)

Can anyone tell me... what is the difference between a message board and a web site? Specifically, in the area of functionality and interactivity?

It seems you all don't really like the very nature of message boards. With all due respect, could all of this knowledge of Evanescence be used to create a web page? You say all the possible questions about alternative Fallen songs, Origin, and Ben Moody's departure have been covered, so don't ask. It's a fair point, but why not get a bunch of you together, go in on a site, and just put all this information that you don't want people asking about, into a web site. Not just some craptacular site with general information, but... Encyclopedia Evanescence. How does that sound? A web page could have better searching, and you could have a moderated "Top 10 Searches."

If you got a board where people can register and post messages, you're going to get newbies who don't know what a FAQ is. *shrugs* Create a site instead, then no one can post and everyone's forced to just read what's there. Or - heh heh heh - set up a script that doesn't let you post until you've read every page on the site, so you know as much about Evanescence as Amy Lee. Well, maybe not that much... LOL.

I am still a n00b in here.

But one thing I never understood is that many newbies tend to be so quick to talk lots of crap... I mean, if you're new I think it's pretty obvious you should have a look around and checking out how things work. And I think it's rule no 1 not to open new threads until you really really REALLY have to. I still haven't started a thread, except for the introduction thread, because I feel it's more fun to check which threads are being active and then post a comment or two there.

I guess that the problem is that many n00bs don't really understand how annoying it is when a million threads, about a topic that has been discussed a million times, are started. Sometimes I get the impression that they believe mods are doing this just to be bitches - just for fun! Somehow, in that case I think they've got it wee bit wrong, aye? ;)

you know what really annoys me at this moment?
i just took a peek in the Message from the Band forum, and guess what, because of the immature behaviour, both of threads started by Amy got locked.
i do understand the reason why it got locked, and i agree with it,
the reason why this all annoys me is, i'm kinda ashamed for Amy, what will she be thinking when she comes back and read things over? i'm not saying it sohould be removed, but i would like to say to the ones who made it get locked... think before you post and think about who can read it...

Yeah, I agree. I read Amy's threads and once I got past page, like...ehh...3 or 4 or so...things got immature and nasty.

I think it's sad. Think about it this way: if Amy comes back and sees the results that her threads have been getting, she may stop posting. None of us want that. Ever.

In response to the first post...I'm a newbie. And yes, I can be pretty stupid at times...but on the other hand, 'newbie' means I'm new and still poking around. So if we newbies mess up and double post (as I've accidentally done a few times) or ask a question that's already been asked, cut us a bit of slack please?

On the other hand, the search SHOULD be used to the fullest extent. I agree there.

By the way...just a random question...why did exodus evanescence go down? Will it be back up at any time?

You fit the finger in the ass hole! However, the mods receive a training that allow them to be candidades to the Senate at least,,, heh heh heh,,,

(to say the truth, perhaps the Seminary could the right place instead of,,, sometimes I did notice sooooooo cloyness and bitter comments,,, poor guys!)

I was really very upset of this but mods were forced to do so due the continous dropping of colders posting shit and further reactions of exodites (heh heh heh,,, I love this word!)... Amy didn't deserve such lockings anyhow,,, but,,, probably things could getting worse.

Has it been thought of to when a person starts a membership w/ the evboard to automatically be routed through each of those threads? I can guarantee that about 90% of the members that are joining now don't remotely look at those, they just get post happy. Little_onw said that one time, people had a thing for posting and starting threads just to get their post count up. Notice how I don't post all that much. If I find something interesting to say, I put my 2 cents worth in, thats about it. But thank you HEAD for starting this thread. It was needed, and it should be the first thread that people are directed to before they start posting.

I don't know how to explain things any more than I already have...

They're too lazy to search so let mods to work in the way they do very well... you know what I mean... ;)

I don't know... Talking as a n00bie I think it's quite easy to move in this board. Search button is veeery effective and useful.

I can't understand... I guess it's just that: lazy bums.

I agree. I've been here for like 3 dayz and i seen the same threads like 50 million timez. shittz gotta change. I know i've probably posted something that's been said before but i've never really thought about searching for it to see if it exists already. Ahh well. Half the people here probably do the same -

Ok, I havent posted here in a WHILE.
But this board does seem uptight, oh yes for the control sake of the board.
Ok look at some other boards (not saying those boards are better than this one )they are very controlled, but doesnt seem crazy
Oh noes too many x's? well just delete the whole thread not that hard.
Also posts not showing up, dumb idea, let the post show but still moderate, this can be done if you did delete the threads.

everyone has rules. This board has rules. The mods are the police to keep us in shape. Buckle up, don't drink and drive, and you will be fine.

ps- don't compare this to other boards either. This board is UNCOMPARABLE.

Maybe if you knew what kind of shit comes through the mod queue then you'd keep your uninformed mouth shut about the rules around here. They've been modified to best suit our needs for nearly 2 years now with trial and error, and the administration has gotten pretty damn good at what they do.

This board is 'uptight' because it needs to be, as Machine Head said, alot of shit is posted on this board, the Mods, myself and most long-time members are sick of these threads. The admin system is very good, and if it was not in place then this board would either be fileld with crap, or would be dead.

I agree totally I meen ive just joined, So im likely to screw up here n there, so as Katya says cut us sum slack every1 was a newbie once, right?

Firstly, finding out what's been asked or said before is what the search button is for. Use the search button. How many times do we have to say this??

Secondly, Please don't type like that. It's a crime against the language. That thing in front of you is a keyboard, not a mobile phone. Please use something coming close to being English. What you posted was just downright lazy.

Thirdly, Welcome to the board. Go post something in the "Introduce yourself" forum. You don't want to jump into a bear-pit like THIS thread for your first posting.

EDIT - And please, don't double post... Edit stuff into your existing post. Thanks.

I think the username and the post content go well together, don't you?
