No thread for these books?
Well, they're amazing and I <3 them. The author is Stephenie Meyer. There's 3 out right now, Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. The 4th comes out in August and Twilight is currently being filmed and the movie is to be released in December.

I have never really been a fan of all the romance shizz, but I think these books are pretty good! Out of the three that have been released so far, i think New Moon is the best. The only thing that made me a sad panda about New Moon (as well as Eclipse) was that there was way too much Jacob in it (but then again, ANY Jacob is too much). no offense to you Jacob <3rs.

I could barely stand reading New Moon! It was so depressing, and when Edward left Bella- I seriously threw the book down cause I was mad, haha. And Jacob annoyed me so bad in Eclipse! Some of his smartass comments are funny, but most of the time I wanted to smack him.

hahaha I agree completely. I did the same with New Moon . I don't really think i have the courage to read it again because it depressed me so much, but I honestly couldn't put it down until I finished it completely :p
And about Jacob... I was so happy when Bella punched him in Eclipse. Best. moment. ever.

This is absolutely, positively, hands-down, one of my favorite book series ever. Not many have come close to pwning me so well.
But I'll have to disagree about New Moon. It's probably my favorite book of them all (so far) and this is because...
There has never been any one book that has rocked my emotions harder. Of course, it was a great comfort to me, because while I was reading this I actually felt just as Bella described. In reality, I was feeling so hurt myself due to things happening in my life, and this book was like a savior to me. It made me feel less alone, even though that sounds silly considering it's a book. But it's the truth. The level of detail and depiction to describe just how Bella felt and what she was going through was amazing. The author thoroughly and completely captured these emotions.
It definitely touched me the most out of the entire series.

I definitely understand what you mean. The book really draws you in and you can imagine and really feel how Bella is feeling. That's why I tried to hurry through it the first time, when she was upset, I felt upset and I just wanted Edward to come back and for her to be happy again.

i absolutely love this series, but i have to say that my favorite has to be eclipse. i love the suspense, and the part where bella attempts to seduce edward. i found it slightly funny. however, i really did want to kick jacob's ass when he kissed bella. i absolutely loved it when bella says, "no emmett, i punched a werewolf in the face"

I've also read these books, and I was totally in love with them. I found them to be very relatable, especially New Moon, even though it was depressing, I felt the same way after I broke up with my boyfriend, because it was really the first relationship I'd been in that I actually cared about and was the longest I had been in. I thought it was really affective in New Moon when she kindof just has a few pages saying different months, which I think emphasized even better than deep description about the numbness and emptiness Bella was going through, like her life wasn't really even worth documenting. Everyone seems to hate Jacob, and ya, he was pretty annoying in some parts(well alot, depending on who you're talking to) But I really liked him in New Moon because of how he helped Bella out and I thought he was really nice and caring. He was definately one of my favourite characters. I feel a little tired of these books now, because after I had read the books, one of my other friends started reading Twilight, and I was so excited that we were talking about it all the time, and then our other friends started reading them, and now pretty much every girl in my school has read them :'( I was the first one! Now it makes the book seem alot less personal and special:(

I loooooooove me some Twilight! I remember seeing the book in Barnes and Noble alot before actually picking it up. My copy of Twilight is so loved and worn...its beaten up and covered in coffee from the memorable time my book was in my bag and my friend accidently dumped her latte all over the inside of my bag...haha.
I can't wait for this movie! Have you guys seen the trailer?
I recently read Twilight,New Moon and Eclipse, and I can't wait for Breaking Dawn...There are without a doubt, amazing books for the fans of those stories..Although to be honest,I'm not quite sure i'm ok with the Edward/Bella relationship, simply because it means death for Bella, and well..their love is more like an obsession..Maybe it's because I'd choose Jacob and life,I don't know!:D
But I can see where the books are going, obviously, and I enjoy the story,so yeah..Definitely on my favourites!:)

So. I haven't read the series but I'm definitely considering it...I think I'm going to check the library first instead of spending money on something I'm not sure whether I'll like. But I have one thing to say about this kid who's playing Edward--he is just too fucking pretty. Seriously. I thought the exact same thing when he played Cedric Diggory in the HP series. There's something about the way all his features come together that is just insanely strange-looking. Sometimes I see him and think "Wow, he's cute" and then other times I look at him and go "OMFG, what's wrong with his FACE?!"

This might cause some drama (which honestly i'm not trying to start) but as of now i can no longer stand the series. I used to like it-well, actully, love it. But after reading the second and third book, i realized how pointless and typiclly feminine the story is. Bella is an dense, insipid, annoying, self-centered coward who can't do anything without almost dying. This gets annoying after awhile when almost every chapter she ends up bleeding or getting hurt. Besides all that, Bella constantly plays the role of the damsel in distress which in it's self is annoying. Then Edward is supposed to be perfect and basically a superman with fangs. This sets up for an annoying unrelatable character, even if it is a vampire. IMO, having vampires that are perfect and super powerful that interact with humans is kinda pointless because then they aren't evenly matched. some of you may argue that "that's the point," but as a reader it just makes thing weird. You want charcters that can interact on an even scale. I'm not saying vampires shouldn't be stronger than humans, but that humans should at least have a chance. The other annoying thing is Edward is all "your blood smells delicious and i could kill you at any time, but i can't cause i love you and i don't want to turn you but wahhh...you're delicious smelling...". it's like either turn her and shut up about it or stop bitching about how breakable she is. Then don't even get me started on Jacob, who turns a slightly likeable story into a disgusting soap opera by interfering with the relationship and causing the typical love triangle drama. Her whole twist on the werewolf senario where "it only runs in a native-american family and they can't turn anyone" is kinda lame also. In general her writing is simple and rediculously drawn out (i mean why do i have to read about what bella had foir dinner and her everyday life for three chapters before something happens?!?!). On top of that, it's only likeable to the millions of typical teenage girls who lap up the idea of a perfect man falling in love with an imperfct unlikeable girl. I'm especially sickened by the series' rabid fans as well as the movie about to come out about it (I'm pretty sure it's the idea of a movie that made me start to hate the series-beside the fact that i woke up to the simplicity and stupidity of the story). *takes deep breath* okay that was my rant/my opinion of the series, sorry if i offended anyone, but i'm just stating my opinion, just as you are if you say you like the series. so don't get all pissy at me.^_^
Saphira
05-26-2008, 03:21 PM
Everyone is allowed their opinions, lol, don't worry about getting attacked. Alot of the rabid fans do remind me of Amy Lee fans--willing to defend the series to the death. (Example: Twilight Moms) Anyway, I disagree with a few of your points. I think Bella is a likeable character in Twilight, but I do tend to dislike her in Eclipse simply because she does tend to go in circles. However, I think her character needs to do this in order to develop into who she truly is...and I enjoyed Eclipse alot. I wasn't a huge fan of New Moon, and the reason for that is not because Edward is gone, but because its just rather a depressing book in general. I loved Jacob until he turned into a werewolf because he turned into Dark!Jacob, and I didn't really enjoy his character as much.
Lastly, while I feel you're right and a MAJORITY of the fans are crazy teenaged girls, not all of them are. For example, I'm almost twenty and I still love to read the books. Also, my boyfriend is in the middle of Twilight and absolutely loves it. So sometimes guys can enjoy it too. I think the romance is part of why people get into it, but if you really want a relationship that will make you pull your hair out, read Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty novels
I still maintain that Twilight is the best book out of all of them though, because its the least complicated. Haha.

Haha, but i definately suggest you guys check THESE books out, they're alot deeper and more well written and well rounded than the Twilight books... and are a tad more ORIGINAL... and yes, the romance is slightly frustrating, but Kartik is SO much hotter(and alot more believable) than Edward(IMO)

05-26-2008, 11:13 PM
Don't worry, I'm not going to attack you. I just want to make a few points as well.
I agree with you that Bella can be annoying and she is selfish. About the whole getting hurt all the time thing, I think part of that perhaps, is just her but also it's focused on to show the contrast between her fragileness as a human and Edward and the vampires seeming indestructability. I think the interaction between humans and vampires is interesting. And, Edward is not perfect. He's got a temper, he can be bossy..neither of which are traits that would be in someone who's 'perfect'. And, in most all stories with vampires, humans don't stand a chance. It's just the choice of whether the vampires take advantage of that or not.
Edward's choice to turn Bella isn't as simple as we may think it is. It's a very deep, complex thing to him, that we probably don't get the whole view of because we don't really know since the story is Bella's perspective.
I really, really don't like Jacob at all, so I'm totally with you on that one. He just annoys the hell outta me and needs to get over it and grow up.
And I know people who aren't 'teenage girls' who like it as well, and not just because of Edward.
Oh, and the 'Great and Terrible Beauty' books are awesome.

i don't know about anyone else but i can't see the turning thing as simple, i mean it annoys me in some ways as i think ahead and well the whole bella gets older and he stays as he is bugs me.

alright alot of people seem to be bringing up the point that not only teens read the book. I am quite aware of this, i've merely noticed that a large majority of the fan base is teenage rabid girls, the minority being older people of both genders. either way...i don't know, maybe it's just because i've read books with more complex characters, more action and the like-or possible because i'm writing several vampire novels myself-that these characters seem annoying, artificial and stereotypical. I find that vampire novels tend to disappoint me because they tend not to have evolved much from what i call the "old vampires" aka vamps that can't handle sunlight, crosses, UV lights, garlic etc.Even though this novel was alright in adapting the older version of what vampires were, i find it alittle "unrealistic" for vampires to be super powerful (forgive the irony/contradiction of the statement). I don't know, maybe it's because i grew up on Buffy (though i despise it now), read other books where vamps weren't super powerful (so the human had a chance albeit a slim one) and in my own story there have been/are human vampire hunters. And the fragility (sp?) of humans vs. vampires gets annoying after a while when we're constantly being reminded that Edward can turn bricks into dust if he touches it too hard-so imagine what he could do to bella by accident-. I don't know, maybe it just have a problem with the series and any argument/explanation given to me will have no affect on my opinion anyway...idk.

my will power did hold up, i used it as a reward:D- complete this section then you can read... so i finished the next morning so add in sleep deprivation and the book did not last long. but totally worth it. i only have about 200 words of eclipse left and i have to say i am totally addicted. it has been so long since i have found a book that i cannot put down and one where i just can't turn the pages fast enough.
i really enjoyed new moon, i know a number of you didnt like it as much but bella's sense of loss was written so well and it was relatable. i already find bella relatable but new moon developed that more and made her a stronger character. the wording of the first couple of chapters or so after edward left was really well done, you felt that sense of loss well i did anyway.
jake i can handle in small doses- to much and he drives me crazy but he gives the story something.
ok i should now go assignment so i can then finish eclipse

June 2008 Update: In response to the outrageous number of emails that I have received with questions concerning Midnight Sun, I talked to Stephenie this weekend and she asked me to let everyone know that Midnight Sun is her next project. She has not yet finished writing it (and there is no timeline set up, so we all need to put a lot of effort into being patient for a while longer), but she is definitely still planning on having it published. And, after Breaking Dawn comes out, Stephenie will have much more time to focus on writing Midnight Sun.

Bringing this back.
Honestly, while I find these books a great read, I can't help but have some issues with the characterization of Bella. First off, it's just so "convenient" that everybody in the WORLD is like, in love with her. Second, she's the most clingy, paranoid, clumsy idiot that has ever been written into existence. Any self-respecting girl wouldn't ever become so obsessed, so fast, with anybody.
And lastly, it's like Harry Potter. Childish, predictable, and overall mediocre.
But worst of all.
The worst casting I've seen in a movie in ages. The chick is a stupid loser (so I guess that fits with Bella, after all) and the guy is just hideous. Not cute at ALL.
I'm so disappointed.
~river~
07-24-2008, 01:50 AM
^ i really have to dissagree. the casting i like all except for rosalie's character. robert and bella really seem to have gotten the part of the characters well and i think they will do a great job. robert is simply gorgeous, thought so i harry potter and just more so now as my friends agree- him playing edward with all the charm is just super sexy.
as for falling into love so fast etc etc. i think or i hope it can happen, if the right "person" comes along that things will just work- call me hopelessly naive but i like it that way.
i said it before and i will say it again i like bella's character the whole insecure thing is me the clumsy thing while i don't break bones i can't make it through a day without tripping, bruising myself and dropping things
Saphira
07-24-2008, 07:53 AM
^^ SAME HERE.
I cannot go ONE DAY without tripping over my own two feet or dropping something. They make so much fun of me at work because I like, bumper car off of people. LOL. And as for everyone liking Bella, I think the whole point is that she doesn't realize she's as pretty as she is, and guys are going to like a pretty girl. Take my little sister, for instance...she's drop dead gorgeous and has no self-esteem whatsoever. That kind of thing can happen, unfortunately.
~river~
07-24-2008, 08:06 PM
^that is the way i see it as well and it has been stated through the book/s that see doesn't see herself properly, but i like that she isn't drop deap gorgeous, instead she is pretty and that makes it more likeable more relatable. it will be explained in midnight sun anyway- well edward's view of her anyway.
10 more days til breaking dawn- yes i am unfortunately out of the US and therefore have to wait longer

I just think that Ms. Meyer could have done a better job in making Bella a LITTLE more realistic as a person. She wasn't believable in the least. And as one of the only human characters, you'd think it would hold some weight.

there in lies the wonder that is human nature the ability to like and dislike something. it could be ejoying something so fully- eg twilight, and not finding anything to fault or complain about. or it could be disliking something and therefore finding something to complain about.

Glamorous? Kristen Stewart is not glamorous. Maybe in some photoshoots, but they make her look that way. She's rather low-key herself. I don't think Rob is ZOMG hot, but he's not completely gross either. I think they did a good job making him look better in the movie.
And I don't think it was so much everyone fell in love with her- but rather, she was new, and it's a small town- people got interested. I don't think that's so hard to believe, or that Bella as a person is unrealistic.

Zomg, I spent all night in a bookstore mostly populated with screaming teenage girls, I was going crazy! But it was fun too, especially with all the Twilight trivia games and stuff. I entered in some drawing, and then I went to buy one of their specialty drinks - Vampire Blend (which is some fruity crap I was not in the mood for) or Hair of the Dog (chocolate banana, mmm) and.. and, don't kill me Edward lovers, but I totally chose the latter! I'm sorry, I had to have a chocolate fix.
When I realized how long the line was to get the damn book I was like, "Hmm, no, I won't win that drawing anyway" and just as I was about to walk out the door my name was called. 0_o Free gift card FTW! Then I left. XDXD
Anyway, I'm soooo excited. *begins to inhale the words of Breaking Dawn*

As well as teasing her friend, because she can't buy it yet,

Let me know, how the first few pages are, and maybe I'll buy it.....
Maybe!!!

i did contemplate prolonging it but after my hour of panicing when i could not find a bookstore that still had a copy or 2 monday afternoon( it came out here monday and i was unable to escape clinical) i lost all control once i finally had it in my hands and due to the fact that i could not read it through the day i just went for it when i had the time. besides why prolong it when you own it you can read it again and again etc

Because it's just not the same as when you're reading it for the first time and don't know all that's going to happen... and besides, a prolonged, slow satisfaction is much better than an "OMG-YES-oh-it's-over" satisfaction. XD That felt so hawt to type out... *rofls*

i very much agree with you, i was very WTF over it, it seemed like she was trying to hard to bring out a perfect ending, yet it works for me. now my bit of speculation for further books being as she said she wanted to continue on- (also in black) is she will be writing from renesmee's point of view. which could work but it instead it will be to much jacob and i want much more edward.

So even though I got the book the second it came out, I just finished it yesterday. It took a major amount of self-control to prolong the inevitible ending, but it was SO worth it...
When I initially read Bella's first part, I didn't feel so attached to the story. I felt confused in many ways - even in that first part, the characters seemed...different to me. The tension/temptation factor of waiting for Bella and Edward to FINALLY do it (lol) was gone, even though I was dying for it to happen. XD And then I was completely blindsided by the whole pregnancy thing. I absolutely didn't think it had any place in this story. It was so...not right for the Twilight series, in my opinion. But that is how I felt at the end of part one.
Jacob completely won me over. I've never held any major dislike for him in the past, but more felt indifference. I've always been all for Edward. But with his part in this book...well, Jake completely stole my heart. One of the main reasons I loved New Moon was because of the way Meyer depicts emotion so well. She made me FEEL it so well, and also at that time of reading it I was going through something myself and felt in many ways like it was described on Bella's behalf. So I felt not alone, and therefore loved it even more. I felt a very similar reaction to Jacob's part in Breaking Dawn. His emotions were written very well, and his uncanny sardonic humor (from his small offhand comments to the actual chapter titles) had me cracking up even when my heart was breaking for him. And, once again...I relate to what the character is going through in the midst of a severe pain. In fact, I felt almost disappointed when Jacob imprinted on Renesme. I felt totally betrayed! In the fact that all this time I was relating to him, and then his pain would suddenly be over...what can I say, I'm a selfish bitch. XD But I was also held in awe, at the beauty of the description of being imprinted upon, to being surprised in an unforseen twist yet again. For me, Jacob's part in this was the very best of the book.
The rest of it, I loved much more than the first part. I loved the tension and suspense building up to the Volturi meeting. I loved the little twists with Alice and Jasper seeming to "abandon" them, with the way Bella's power was developing in several different ways I'd never even thought of before, and with all the little excuses and justifications that the Volturi were coming up with to condemn the Cullens with. That chilled me repeatedly to the bone.
Overall it was a very good book...not perfect by any means, but Meyer, I do believe, is a fluid genius when it comes to depicting emotion, beautiful metaphors, and writing in general. What an intelligent and imaginative mind she has, to have made even SOME of that story work so well.

I totally agree with everything you said, Shivercide. I wasn't sure how to explain it right, but you just did it there. Thanks!
~river~
08-23-2008, 06:53 PM
also in agreeance in with you steph- except for wanting Jacob's pain to continue. when i first became aware the second part was in Jacob's perspective i was a little bit worried and unhappy with that but it was hard not get sucked right into Jacob's head like you normally do with Bella. the first Bella part was just very on the surface, there was none of Meyer's characteristic emotional exploration. and i said it before and i will say it again, i was dissapointed by the lack of Edward and also that the relationship dynamic between Bella and Edward was not so central or even really focused upon. part of the attraction of the previous books was the development of the relationships and the emotional exploration. hence me also liking new moon alot there is something there so relatable, regardless of what your feeling, it takes that loneliness and brings it to the forefront of your mind (even when you try to ignore it) but instead of making you wallow it works you through it. well it did for me. but i definetly enjoyed Breaking Dawn more the second time around maybe becuase i knew what to expect i was so dissapointed with the effort to give it that fairytale sort of ending. the whole pregnancy was to fairytale ending for me just becuase it was something that was suppossed to be impossible and IMO in some ways i believe it should have stayed that way- impossible.

My reply will be marked with spoilers. Highlighting will be helpful.
I was also a bit..taken aback by that part, as well. It seemed like Bella's pregnancy came and went far too fast
Knowing the Twilight series as well as we do, unexpected developments are to be anticipated, I guess. The pregnancy is def one of them.
As for the next couple of books in Renesmee's point of view, that kinda pisses me off. While I do..feel for her, and enjoy her character, I do believe that the next few books should definitely be in Bella's perspective, or at least Edward's =/
Anyway, I LOVE Twilight. Always have, ever since it was released back in 2005. At the time, I was fifteen.
Sadly, I haven't finished reading "Breaking Dawn" because, as said xFarther_Awayx said, this is the last book written in Bella's point of view =/
EDIT: Thanks Shivercide =]
~river~
08-23-2008, 08:29 PM
^ to the pregnancy being too fast. it was kind of explained through theories relating back to Jacob.
remember Humans/Bella have 23 pairs, Werewolves/Jacob 24 and Vampires/Edward have 25. the theory was the Renesmee had 24 pairs instead of the human or vampire pairing. therefore what i got from it was she through her gene pairing had the fast growth spurt (remember Jacob's?) and the heat (also werewolfy) instead of being human temperature or growth speed she got those what we assumed were werewolf charactisterics but instead genetic characteristics related to the number of genetic pairings. hopefully that made sense
also i would edit your post so the spoilers in the quote is not blatant

Shiver edited my post ;)
But, thank you for explaining. It was explained earlier on in the book, so that is why I probably forgot. Still, the situation itself felt so out of place and non-Twilight-ish imo.
A whole chunk of the book covered Bella's pregnancy (even in Jacob's POV) and... I thought a lot of time was wasted, even if our beloved Bella was out of it most of the time.
I'm nearing the end, to the climax concerning the Volturi; and wow. This is what I have been waiting for during the entire book ^_^ besides, you know, Bella and Edward finally having sex :p
EDIT: I wanted to bring up a particular controversial subject among fans:
Some say that there is no character development.
I don't think that at all, myself. Edward seems to have developed the most =/
post your opinions.
~river~
08-24-2008, 02:07 AM
^i know what you mean the whole time i was craving the conflict and until i knew there was conflict coming i was a bit unhappy with the book. as for the pregancy being covered it is hardly something that could be glossed over i liked it through Jacob's P.O.V also how it did look at Edward but from someone else's perspective. she wrote Jocob really well. from being fairly indifferent to him i came to like him a hell of a lot more then i did before. that said i am still team switzerland!
i am going to disagree there was character development but mainly in the form of Bella which is really a no brainer becuase the whole series is her. she as a character has to develop for the books to keep on going. the emotional growth is obvious as the whole series is really about her becoming aware of the vamps and then the process of bringing herself to the decision to join the Cullen's. i am so glad she did become a vamp other wise it all would have seemed pointless

'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer Puts 'Midnight Sun' On Hold After Online LeakMeyer decides to post unfinished draft online, but is too upset to continue writing it.
By Sabrina Rojas Weiss
After the release of "Breaking Dawn" earlier this month, fans were left with just one more piece of Stephenie Meyer's vampire saga to look forward to: "Midnight Sun," the "Twilight" story told from the perspective of Edward. But the hope of seeing more of those iconic red-white-and-black covers in stores may have been dashed this week, due to an online leak of the unfinished novel. On StephenieMeyer.com, the author announced that the incident has been so upsetting, she is putting the book on hold indefinitely.
"I have a good idea of how the leak happened, as there were very few copies of 'Midnight Sun' that left my possession, and each was unique," Meyer says in the post, adding that she believes the individual she gave this copy to had "no malicious intent with the initial distribution."
After an explanation of how the leak violates her copyright, Meyer breaks the sad news. "My first feeling was that there was no way to continue ['Midnight Sun']," she says. "Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write 'Midnight Sun' now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on 'Midnight Sun,' and so it is on hold indefinitely."
But there is a tiny silver lining for fans. Rather than reward whoever leaked the draft, Meyer decided to post it on her own site. "This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest," she reasons. "I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the 'Twilight' story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place."
And though she says "the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes," the PDF file contains 264 pages of Forks through Edward's eyes.
The novel was originally meant to be just a writing exercise for Meyer. And the author seemed a bit fed up with some Twilighters' obsessive, critical nature after the release of "Breaking Dawn."
"For all intents and purposes, 'Breaking Dawn' is the last book," she told MTV News. "It might easily happen that I quit here. There'd be a lot of good reasons for doing that, so I don't know if we need to get into all the future possibilities and speculations, 'cause I'll just go crazy, and I'm so close already!"
Interestingly, Meyer's reaction is very similar to J.K. Rowling's testimony during her case against the creators of "The Harry Potter Lexicon" in April (sorry, we know you guys hate these comparisons). "This trial has decimated my creative work over the last month," she said. "You lose the [plot] threads and worry whether you'll be able to pick them up again. Should my fans be flooded with a surfeit of substandard books — so-called lexicons — I'm not sure I'd have the will or heart to continue."
Is there a chance that Meyer will change her mind after a break from the Cullen universe? We'll wait and see. For now, Meyer says she's going to concentrate on spending time with her family and other writing projects,
August 28, 2008
As some of you may have heard, my partial draft of Midnight Sun was illegally posted on the Internet and has since been virally distributed without my knowledge or permission or the knowledge or permission of my publisher.
I have a good idea of how the leak happened as there were very few copies of Midnight Sun that left my possession and each was unique. Due to little changes I made to the manuscript at different times, I can tell when each left my possession and to whom it was given. The manuscript that was illegally distributed on the Internet was given to trusted individuals for a good purpose. I have no comment beyond that as I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution.
I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published. I think it is important for everybody to understand that what happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a human being. As the author of the Twilight Saga, I control the copyright and it is up to the owner of the copyright to decide when the books should be made public; this is the same for musicians and filmmakers. Just because someone buys a book or movie or song, or gets a download off the Internet, doesn't mean that they own the right to reproduce and distribute it. Unfortunately, with the Internet, it is easy for people to obtain and share items that do not legally belong to them. No matter how this is done, it is still dishonest. This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control.
So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn't like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.
I'd rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun. It was only an incomplete draft; the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes. But how do I comment on this violation without driving more people to look for the illegal posting? It has taken me a while to decide how and if I could respond. But to end the confusion, I've decided to make the draft available here (at the end of this post). This way, my readers don't have to feel they have to make a sacrifice to stay honest. I hope this fragment gives you further insight into Edward's head and adds a new dimension to the Twilight story. That's what inspired me to write it in the first place.
I do want to take a moment and thank the wonderful fans who have been so supportive of me over the past three years. I cannot begin to tell you how much each of you means to me. I only hope this note will stop all the confusion and online speculation so that the Twilight universe can once again become the happy escape it used to be. After this incredibly busy year, I am now focusing on spending more time with my family and working on some other writing projects.

I really hope that S.M. will decide to continue to write "Midnight Sun," Stupid assholes. People need to keep their mouths shut and appreciate beautiful writing like Meyer's. Not to mention that they need to learn patience and refrain from downloading unfinished pieces.
I guess those who decided to download the illegal unfinished copy of midnight sun really do understand that only good things come to those who wait.
EDIT: I did mean before S.M. put up the draft of "Midnight Sun,"
As for the Twilight movie, I cannot wait for its release. With Kirsten Stewart and Nikki Reed as actresses starring, this movie will do unbelievably well.

I'm pissed at those idiots who leaked it. They've ruined it for so many people.
I'm also annoyed at the people I've seen bitching that SM put it on hold- if someone betrayed your trust and leaked it, you'd be upset too. I mean, of course I'm mad that we have to wait for an unspecified amount of time-assuming she picks it up again- but come on. I wouldn't want to write under the circumstances either. I'd feel like the rug had been pulled out from underneath me.

me either... i was finally able to download a copy yesterday evening and have been listening to it on and off along with the lullaby.
kylie twilight was the first one and believe me they are anything but boring.
i am now looking forward to the third trailer.
also last tuesday my friends and i went to the movie and while waiting for my ticket to be handed over i was looking around and low and behold there was a twilight poster on the wall. i made the mistake of mentioning it to my friends who then raced across the foyer to gush, then shamefully we took photos on our phones with us and the poster. hell it was fun and i had a big laugh at them running for the poster
