If the "new" Nightwish irritates you so much because of Anette, then why bother posting in this thread? Why not go post your praises about Tarja in the thread solely about her?

In my opinion, being a true Nightwish fan means embracing both eras and being able to love and respect both vocalists. You have to keep in mind that she was hired for the position of singer for Nightwish for a reason. If the boys believe she has talent and Tuomas is happy for her to sing his songs, which includes the songs from the Old Era, then where is the problem?

Okay. So you don't like her singing the songs that Tarja once had ever right to sing. That right, that privelege, has now been passed to Anette and she's giving it her best to show the world what she's got. If you don't like how she sings the old songs, simply don't listen to them. Problem solved.

I love Tarja and I do think there are some songs that Nettie (again, fuck you ) can't replace her on, but their are others she completely brings to life. I much prefer Nettie rendition of Dark Chest of Wonders, Wishmaster and Dead to the World among others. No she doesn't have Tarja's range and immense vocal talent and never will but her voice has other qualities which gives different character to the music. No it's not the same, but just because it's not the same doesn't mean it's bad.

And have you been to a NW concert this tour, have you seen Anette Ozlon on stage? She is un-freaking-believable. I have never seen a singer bring so much energy and spirit and joy to their performance. It was just a pleasure and a privilege to watch and I cannot wait to get another opportunity to experience that again.

You can think what you want about Anette, I understand how she can seem like a disappointment next to Tarja I really do. But don't act like she's committing some kind of crime for doing what she was hired to do; sing Nightwish songs and don't you dare try and abuse us for liking it.

First of all, if you're going to correct people, at least do so properly. It's Anette, not Annette.

Second, although I realize that this point has already been made, the songs are Tuomas', no one else's. Yes, Marco and Emppu have helped to write some of the music, but at the core, they belong to Tuomas, as they are his words, his emotions, his thoughts-an extension of his heart and soul that he has chosen to share with the world. It's up to him who he wants to sing them; in the past, it was Tarja, and now it's Anette. But at the root of it all, it's still Nightwish, because Nightwish is Tuomas. Without his lyrics, you would have nothing.

Third, Tarja and Anette are so completely different that it's senseless to keep trying to compare them. Tarja has a voice that no one can ever match, she's technically perfect in every way, and manages to send chills down my spine even when she sings the heavier songs like "Feel For You" or "Bare Grace Misery" because there's just something...haunting...about her vocals. Anette has a passion in her voice that is undeniable, and in my opinion, unequalled by anyone I have ever heard before, especially Tarja. She has a very soulful quality in her voice, and her interpretations of the "old Era" songs are done in such a way that they truly do become completely different songs with a whole new range of emotions. I love them both equally, but I do realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As far as writing the songs "for Tarja" or "for Anette" (and this is where I wish I could find where I read this again) Tuomas himself has said that he never wrote any of the songs specifically for Tarja's voice, but for a "ghost voice", because he couldn't always hear Tarja singing them as they were written. That would be why songs like "Stargazers" were rarely performed live, because some of the notes were just too high for Tarja to sing comfortably. Do you really think he would have done that if he had written them FOR her and her alone? I would imagine it will be the same way with Anette. Yes, he will be able to keep in mind what she is capable of, but she will also have to adapt her voice to what he has written, at least to some extent.

Basically what it comes down to, for me at least, is that I've been a Nightwish fan from the beginning, and I'm simply thankful for the fact that once Tarja was gone they managed to find a singer who is talented, passionate, and fits in with the rest of the band so that we, as fans, still have the magic of the music we've come to love. Nightwish is Nightwish, and that spirit is still there and always will be as long as Mr. Holopainen is writing the songs, the band is there to play them, and there's an amazing vocal talent to breathe life into the words.

OMG what is with all the Tarja vs Anette crap again. I remember when I started this thing not too long ago, but then I actually listened to DPP and for me yes it was a huge disappointment, but there are some good songs in there. I dont think new Nightwish is as good because Kristen is right when she said the band isn't always going to be the same with a new lead singer. It's hard to get used to especially when people are used to Tarja.
I will always prefer Tarja over Anette, but Anette isnt that bad I will admit. She seems to bring fun and energy into the new songs and in the video clips she looks like she is having the time of her life. Tarja never smiled, never did the hip wiggle like Anette does. Tarja was always very serious when she sang -in all the video clips with her in them have you ever seen her smile? How many clips have you seen Anette looking like she's on a high? That girl is so full of energy it's not funny. She's bright and fun loving and Tarja wasn't any of that because she was always so serious. Tarja has said that she never smiled in promo photos of the band because she was told not to. The 'serious' look was her image and the way they marketed her, I guess. With Anette its different. New singer, new attiude. The music isnt as good I would prefer, but new Nightwish is still listenable, it just takes patience to get into.

I said million times already, to million people... I do prefer Tarja's voice over Anette's... But I also prefer Anette's attitude over Tarja's. Maybe Tarja was told not to smile, but it doesn't matter in the end. I still prefer Anette's energy... She just brought something new to Nightwish... not only with her voice, but with HER.
And that new is something I really like. Maybe I don't like DPP like I LOVED the old Nightwish stuff, but I accept it as it is.
There is no more Tarja in new Nightwish, and I don't see the point of all Tarja vs. Anette stuff.
You just CAN'T compare them. They're too different, in million ways. The only thing that's the same is that they both are/were Nightwish singers.

Wait, did someone say that they heard DPP and it just "wasn't Nightwish?" Lolz that's funny. Nightwish isn't Tarja. If anything, Nightwish is Tuomas, lol. He wrote DPP, so it's still Nightwish music... You can't expect every album to be exactly the same, especially after the time they went through. There were GOING to be changes in the album, aside from the changing of vocalists. They've changed, so get the fuck over it. And learn to spell "Anette."

Nightwish may not actually BE Tarja, but she was the lead singer for so long, and they picked a singer with such a different style, that die-hard fans can't help but be a bit disappointed (LIKE ME.)

Never mind about Ev, it's not the band that sucks, it's Amy herself!!!

As for new Nightwish I do agree because I myself prefer Tarja way more than Anette but I don't think Anette is all that bad. I just refuse to listen to any of the songs she is singing that Tarja once sang because I prefer to remember them as Tarja sung them. New Nightwish songs I will be happy to listen to. DPP is not that good an album IMO but there are some catchy songs in there - especially BBB and Amaranth and Meadows of Heaven is really nice too.
Give Anette a chance to find her feet. Tarja has her solo career now and IMO she is able to spread her wings and is so much better than she was when she was actually in Nightwish, she has the freedom to do whatever she wants now.


Now back on topic...did anyone think the video to BBB was a littlw weird at the start? Like when I first saw it I saw these hot chicks with long hair playing drums and guitars and I wondered whether it was actually the right video even though it said it was, then the chicks turned into guys and back to chicks again!!!
