I did a stupid thing when I first joined, clicked the wrong link and introduced myself in the wrong forum, so I never had a welcoming committee. I'm terrible with computers. It's a good idea though. I don't know if I am still a n00b or not, but I try not to make any n00bish mistakes anymore!

When i joined a few weeks ago i didnt introduce myself so i dont know who my welcoming committee member is. But i read all the FAQ threads and i read the thread about what its like to be a noob and they all really helped me. i also then PM'd jesouhaite who really helped me too with questions i had (thanks jesouhaite!)
im still kinda getting used to it here so i aplogise in advance for any noobish mistakes i may make!

I want lurkers, noobies, and everybody who's already introduced themselves over the past couple of months to give the Evboard committee your feedback as to how we're handling your concerns.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?
2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?
3. If you have, how often do you PM?
4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?
5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?
Hey!! When I introduced myself I was told that Head was my guide....he never PMed me! *glares at head* but its all good.I would have PMed him, but I didn't want him to think I was some random weirdo PMing him. I like the fact that there is a committee to help all us noobies, that way we don't make stupid threads and annoy the non-noobs of evboard. What I don't like is that I wasn't aware of the committee until I was told I had a guide, which was a while after I registered on here. More should be done in educating the new users. The noobs should get some type of automatic PM telling them about the committee and who their guide is and that they can PM that person with questions, problems, etc.

I didn't send you a PM because I noticed that you'd signed on in November 2003... I kinda figured that you were familiar enough with the place! My bad...

Feel free to PM me anytime with any quetions. I like random wierdos.

1. Has your welcoming committee member introduced you either by PM or introduce yourself post?

Nope. WhisperedVoices was assigned to me but I never heard anything.

2. Have you ever PM'd your welcoming committee member if you've had any concerns? How many times can you remember actually PMing about any questions to the committee?

No, I did my part and read over the FAQ and rules. Seemed pretty straightforward.

3. If you have, how often do you PM?

n/a

4. What do you like about the committee? What do you dislike about the committee? Do you have an opinion at all?

Haven't had much interaction with them as committee members, just as other people posting so far.

5. Do you feel that more should be done in educating the newer posters (ie, you) on the board? If so, how?

Well, being a literate adult I guess its difficult for me to grasp how some people fail to read the rules posts, especially those who claimed to have been lurkers for some time before posting. So I think that just posting your introduction in the right spot is probably a big step in the right direction already.

So far I've pretty much avoided a lot of the Ev boards. The attitude that "its all been discussed before" is pretty pervasive here, and as a new fan I know I don't have much "new" to add. I just think that some of the older members forget that its still new to some of us. So even if the search function reveals the 456 page post that was made a year ago, you're left with the choice of being a post necromancer, making a new thread and risking getting flamed/locked/banned, or opting out of the discussion entirely. The last option kinda defeats the purpose of a fan forum though, doesn't it?

I can understand wanting to limit the number of questions, and generic "Amy is hot"/"Evanescence changed my life" posts, but I've seen some topics that seemed interesting get flamed and locked because some of the older members finished talking about it a month ago or whatever. That aspect is a bit intimidating and disheartening.

I guess I figured things out well enough though. I had 3 of those little green dots and enough rep points to buy a new title by the end of 10 days on the board.

Actually...I joined yesterday. I have no idea what the Welcome Committee even exists! The only thing that I honestly am having major trouble with are the signatures. This option doesn't seem to appear on my profile edit or my User CP. If anyone can offer advice, it would be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

It doesn't appear because you don't have a high enough reputation yet. You have to get a certain amount of reputation before you get a signature. I'm sure you'll get enough in no time, but for now you'll have to wait.

When you get enough points, you can do other things like changing your custom title.

Just remember not to postwhore because the mods won't like it. Welcome to the board and don't be afraid.
