You're going to think I'm strange for this. As an album, I think that Origin is better than Fallen. As Bokuho said, it is basically Ev showing off what they could do without a major label holding them. Even if the songs weren't necessarily what they wanted, it seems as if the result as a whole album is. It's practically perfect.

As singular tracks though, I prefer Fallen's tracks over Origin's. Fallen has amazing songs and most of them are single-worthy songs (GU, BMTL, Everybody's Fool, MI, Haunted, Tourniquet (people that I've seen on another board really like this song and would like it as the 4th single), Imaginary (Amy's choice for 4th single), Taking Over Me, and Whisper). Damn, that's like the entire album, but all of those songs are worthy of being singles of which 3 have already been named.

Imaginary is my absolute favorite track. I love Origin's, but I prefer Fallen's. I like the changes in dynamics in that version. It goes from heavy to light, then heavy to light again, before finishing up at heavy and fading out. Favorite. Song. Ever.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone in making my point.

I have an appreciation though for pretty much all of their songs.

Because I am indecisive I can't decide which one I like more. Both are great IMO. Origin has a bit more variety, but I would imagine thats cos it was a demo and they wanted to showcase a lot of what they can do...I could be way off, but eh. Fallen does sound more cohesive though. But yeah I like both equally.

I agree. To me Origin and the 2002 Demo CD are their best works (so far). Sure, they could have been played and recorded with better, expensive equipment, but they have so much more experimentation and uniqueness compositionally than Fallen. Fallen sounds "safe", each track done so it doesn't contrast too much with the tracks before and after it. Origin has that contrast, but at the same time is tied together in such a way that it has even better "flow" than Fallen.

Look at the artwork for Fallen and its singles. Pictures of Amy or the whole band, not much else. It puzzles me that their Wind-up releases have so much less detailed artwork than their small-label release Origin.

I don't care what SHE says. It's real enough for me and it's quality music. So?

I'd say it's quite natural when you move from a small label to a major label that you see it as the 'real' starting point. Perhaps when they've made some more albums she'll be able to see it from a different perspective. I don't recall who said it, but I read an interview and this artist said that you ALWAYS feel that the new album is the best album you've ever come up with. But when some time has passed you see things from a different perspective and it's not unusual that you might realize that your very first album was your very best (because there wasn't such a lot of pressure involved, mostly).

exactly.. its definately a real album. sure they werent signed to anyone during it, but its an album none the less.. its the mfkr of evanescence (for those who dont know, mfkr was a slipknot album before their "debut"which had original tracks and ones that were redone on their debut album.. fuck they even had funk in their songs :|)

btw this is gonna sound stupid but does anyone have any good mp3 of father away or missing without that crappy noise or a fade out every 30 seconds?! id go buy the bring me to life single but they dont sell it anymore at ANY of the record places i go (stupid australia..)

love em both, but probably lean more towards Origin. As others have said Fallen seems more produced and edited. Origin is just more Ev to me.

Have a good one

I know. They had offers from major labels before they released Origin, but they wanted to show off more of their talent before they chose one, right?

I guess you could consider it a compilation instead of an "album", but I don't see anything wrong with comparing the two. I'll admit that in some ways Fallen is better. I'm glad they're different. If their demos were merely low-budget versions of Fallen songs and identical in every other aspect, it wouldn't be as interesting.

I love Fallen but I like Origin alot more. To me Origin has this "mystic" feel and I totally love that feeling, and the emotions described in the songs on Origin are so real. Origin also gives off sort of a victorian feel, I don't know maybe it's just me getting those vibes but I love it.
Fallen is harder music, more perfected, and it doesn't give off the same feel I feel in love with in Origin BUT it's still one of the greatest albums ever, one of my favorites.
