No, mate,,, any confusion, you are absolutely right. Origin was like our first Love, tracks are virtually sharping, bursting into new feelings,,, but Fallen,,, is,,, so heavy,,, temperamental, the experience,,,

If you guys have brothers and/or sisters, ask to your mum to whom she loves more,,, the shy younger one, the pretty blonde girl, the tender boy, or the naughty Dennis,,, no answer,,, ew,,, sorry,,,

yes, there is a single answer,,, she loved the older one longer, because was born first, nothing else!

Man, it's nice to see a thread which actually discusses the music for a change. This is one of the better threads in a while. Props to the mods for not locking it since, of course, this has been discussed a million times before. Indeed, being able to thoughtfully answer, "Which do you prefer, Origin or Fallen?" is the litmus test for a true Ev fan.

My 2 cents:

If I could choose only one of the two Evanescence albums, I would pick Origin. As has been said, the variety of styles showcased by the album are second to none. It goes all over the techno-metal landscape. On Origin you get a contrast between, say, the hardest Ev song ('Lies') and the softest ('Anywhere' -- the sort of song you will never hear again on an Ev record.) And you get everything in between, in varying layers of electronica, straight metal, and (best of all, from a eclectic standpoint) worship music. How wild is that? And you get the highest reaches of art metal (I contend that 'Even in Death' is Evanescence's masterpeice).

It's all wrapped up in the freshest-sounding, brilliantly produced authentic package. At every second of Origin's playtime, you can't escape how real this feels, no matter how unfathomable the genius of the work is. It's that excitement that made me an Evanescence fan, listening to Origin as I write this gives me goosebumps from just the energy of the record.

Fallen is another story. I certainly like Fallen, but the production is too slick to be my favorite. But I'm glad it has a distinctive sound. I hope all of Ev's records sound radically different (Alas, I don't think Amy is up to that task in the same way that Ben and Amy would have been. ) Fallen is almost a concept album, the score to some great, unmade film. It certainly succedes in setting a consistent tone and color for the album as a whole, what with the glossy feeling the whole thing has. But while it sounds like Fallen is a consistent piece, the songs are too disconected -- there's no overall narrative, there's very little thought to the pacing of storytelling. So there's a constant tension with Fallen, a battle between the Unifying Concept and the Directionless Same-ness if you will. It's not as knock-out brilliant as Origin, but it's at least trying something.

Although I must admit that I haven't heard every song on Origin, I still believe that Fallen is better. Origin (based on what I've heard so far) has really great songs but I think Amy's vocals are better on Fallen. On Origin she sounds like she's 15. So my pick is Fallen.

I like Both, For different Reasons. I also Like the Whisper/Sound asleep Ep!!! They sound different with each song. Most artist can't make music that dosn't sound the same. With Evanescence they are always able to find a new sound. Each album is very Divers, so really why not say that both albums are good?

I like the fact that Origin isn't perfect. That it sounds edgey. That's what makes it so great.
I like Fallen cus it sound more like Amy came back Pissed off, the Guitar is alot better and the fact that Evanescence has changed to an even darker style.
