Now I'm doing ORIGIN again obsessively... Field Of Innocence was not one of my faves before..and now I'm liking it a lot..go figure. Maybe it's just the mood I'm in lately.. " I want to go back to believing in everything ..and knowing nothing.." Great line.I also still like the few cuts from the demos that didn't make it to fallen (Anything For You...Bleed...Missing) I just do.. okay! Peas Z |

I definitely prefer "Origin" out of the two albums - even if Amy Lee doesn't consider "Origin" a 'real' album, from the responses in this thread, she really should do, since so many fans have said it's their favourite.
I love the fact that "Origin" is totally raw - "Fallen," to me, always sounds so overly edited and produced, and I understand that that was their dream and how they wanted the band to sound from the start, and although I love the orchestral parts in it, I really think they could have done so much better without all of that. I know that's also the main criticisms of the band, too, and I think that's why this album received so much negative feedback - it's just too perfect and too glossy. However, as a few other people have said, I do prefer more individual tracks from "Fallen." "Origin," overall, is a much more complete and 'flowing' album than "Fallen." |

good topic, though I can't choose. I've never heard the songs from Origin on their own...I have them all mixed with the demos and never had the patience to sort out which goes where.
While I really like Fallen (it's obviously how I found out about Evanescence) I find that I can listen to the Origin and demo songs a lot more times in a row before I change Cds. I dunno, Fallen has lately been resurging for me, however. It's been my subway soundtrack on the way to school every morning. So, yeah, that was pointless. I can't choose. |

as someone who loves Origin, and heard it within weeks of watching DareDevil at the movies, I just have to say that Origin easily beats Fallen - If you want true inspiration, a variety of textured harmonies, classic Evanescence sound, and songs with a spirit that rock (plus that dose of "hardcore" and a touch of industrial that anyone can handle)... listen to Origin, ASAP!
THE list of 11 songs from their year 2000 album Origin Origin - by Evanescence, released by Big Wig Enterprises: ( Length of song ) Title of song ( 0:34 ) Origin ( 3:56 ) Whisper ( 3:31 ) Imaginary ( 4:26 ) My Immortal ( 3:47 ) Where Will You Go ( 5:13 ) Field of Innocence ( 4:09 ) Even in Death (same version on Demos 2001-2002, 4:13 length) ( 6:03 ) Anywhere (+Reprise) ( 3:49 ) Lies ( 3:30 ) Away From Me ( 7:22 ) Eternal (+Demise) length is + or - a few seconds. Also look for "Listen to the Rain" which was cut from the album Origin. You might find shorter versions of "Anywhere" and "Eternal" when you download, for example ( 5:23 ) Anywhere. Also, look for ( 3:06 ) "Lies (version 2 / Remixed / Remix)" which is a re-written second recording of the song that was never released to an album. "Lies" and the Origin version of "Imaginary" easily rival anything on Fallen, while "Field of Innocence" and "Anywhere" are simply beautiful! Want to hear some sweet guitar riffs? - Just listen to "Lies", or the last half of "Even in Death" ... "Away From Me" is also very good and "Eternal" is an inventive & masterful piano / electronica / industrial song that follows "Away From Me". Yeah, the choral arrangements on Fallen are great... but that can never dull the magic of Origin! Last edited by BlueSkai : 02-16-2004 at 02:07 AM |

ooh, thanks for the track list. now my lazy ass can arrange the tracks accordingly (for the true Origin experience), and then rightly decide my preference.
Thanks again! |

I honestly couldn't decide which album I think is better. I love them both, and although I agree with some of what is being said about Fallen, I dont see that as something to lower the value of the music. With progress and a bigger production, things are going to be more finetuned. I doubt the band would be exactly where they are if they didnt do so much work on Fallen.
Personally, I just have all my Evanescence albums/demos/compilations whatever you want to call them in my media player and on cds going in random circles so I dont feel dissatisfied with the production of an album because I feel each of them at the same time. They all rock. I dont think I made sense...but I'm sick so give me a break

then i read on the back of the cd how many people were involved and i said to myself "to get it like this you need many people". When i listen to Origin (and knowing that it was without the label) it sounds more adventurous and charming, coz it's only them, only the people we admire and know, and have pics of And I got it completely by chance, the guy who gave it to me didn't know i was into them ![]() Both albums in my opinion have the ...essence of Evanescence.. (I'm sure someone else said that before me , I can't say one is more Ev than the other. The flow of Origin is more complete, it's structure is better with an instrumental, an intro and overlaps between songs. But Fallen has a stronger and more refined (to the dislike of some probably) sound. Overall... I'm happy to have them both, more songs for me

*laughs* Haunted One, "edited" maybe is a term that should only be obvious in music when you're listening to Techno or Rap... otherwise, if you're NOT immediately thinking "this sounds over-produced and edited" maybe that means that you could imagine the musicians playing the music untouched by a studio, never considering that anything more than fingers, hands, voices and a few amps for the intruments went into producing the beautiful sound.
When it's actually noticeable that the music sounds formulaic, and as if it's being spit out by a programmed computer or synthesizer, it doesn't sound, well, "natural". Compare listening to Fallen to listening to Evanescence perform at a concert LIVE - you can sense a difference between multiple layers of guitar tracks that sound too similar to really stand apart, and the live sounds of a bassist cranking out a solo as it complements the lead guitar... If music sounds "over produced" it can feel artificial, as tho it lacks true spirit or fresh improvisation. :\ does that help? In this article Fallen's producer Dave Fortman said: Quote:
They're both good, it's just that Fallen sounds too similar from track to track. Origin doesn't restrict its lyrics or musical style to one rigid set of standards. Fallen does, and it gets repetitive, FAST. I skip through the middle of Fallen seeking something that sounds different. That's why I don't like mainstream pop... any Evanescence is great for shaking up the pop radio tedium.I can listen to Origin often and still enjoy it, while Fallen leaves me yearning for something more unique, for a chorus that doesn't kill itself with redundancy. "Going Under" is always a thrill, but afterwards I'll skip between "Haunted", "Hello", "Everybody's Fool" and "Tourniquet", with the rare listen to "M.I." ...If I make it to "Whisper" at the end only to hear Amy sing "Fallen angels at my feet, whispered voices at my ear" which sounds SO MUCH BETTER with Ben singing the part, I shake my head in disappointment. How many people will get to hear "Whisper 2002" or the Origin version of "Whisper" or even the original version from the Sound Asleep EP? I could go for months without listening to Fallen. It's sad... I bought the CD in April, 2 months after I heard the majority of their earlier work, and my infatuation with the 11 songs on Fallen was over in a week. "My Last Breath" is a great song, it is, but "Breathe No More" is far richer even in its simplicity when it compares to the songs on Fallen. Why did they cut "Farther Away"? I would have loved for that song to follow "Haunted". So, Fallen stays tucked in my CD sleeve, while my every Origin mp3 plays out 2-3 times over, followed by about a dozen other great Evanescence songs that apparently have yet to see their day of glory . . . just listen to the Demos, folks (like "Exodus", "October", "Breathe No More", "Before the Dawn" etc...) If you haven't heard 'em, you haven't heard Evanescence. Fallen, sadly, just can't capture the essence of it all. It just can't capture the spirit. Listen to what you love, and enjoy it. Just don't forget that there is more than what you've already heard, out there, waiting for you... Last edited by BlueSkai : 02-16-2004 at 03:02 AM |
