Pacers/Pistons: The Brawl
Has nobody seen this yet?!?!?! I was listening to Howard Stern this morning on KROCK and he was talking about the fight between the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers this past weekend. I was very interested because they seemed to put a lot of "feelings" in their words...like it was a big deal. So I come home, download the video, and I couldn't believe what I saw. MAYHEM!!
Has anybody see this? What's your take on: the fans, the Pistons, the Pacers. I'm interested in seeing what the Michigan and Indiana people have to say .Last edited by Ceez : 11-22-2004 at 05:53 PM. |

Then a fan from the stand throws a cup of beer/water(?) and that enfuriates Artest. Artest goes into the stands and all hell breaks loose. Some fans came on the court, fought with the players. Liquor being thrown everywhere. IT WAS NUTS!!!! |

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/column...arc&id=1928761 Ron Artest is a fucking jackass. Even though the fans are at fault for fueling the fire, Ron Artest could have defused the situation by either pointing the fan out in the stands or running back into the locker room area. I'm sure Rick Carlisle would have understood because the Pacers were going to win anyway. He is my least favorite athlete in not just basketball today, but in the history of sports. He's so cocky and yet it's not like he ever led his team to a World Championship. He's not a team player. He only cares about his fucking rap album (which comes out tomorrow by the way )and he's overrated anyway. If I was ever his coach, his ass would have been traded or cut.

Seems like more and more NBA players have attitudes. A line has to be drawn somewhere. Artest and the others went way over it, and I'd like to see criminal charges on Artest. That would set an example. Also, I would also think if the NBA ran itself as a business, they would "fire" Artest because he assaulted a customer... a paying customer. (regardless if he's unruly, the customer is "always right").
Security also has responsiblilty to escort and arrest blatently obnoxious / dangerous fans immediately.

I think the fight was pretty bad, but I think people are making too big a deal about it. Fans and teams have brawls like this all the time. But there were many at fault. The fans should not have been throwing things at the players, and the players should have been adult enough to leave and not let it escalate into what it did.

The bad thing is that it's spreading. The next day the South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Clemson Tigers football game broke out into a brawl late in the fourth quarter. What an end to the Lou Holtz legacy. I'm glad we've got Spurrier coming in because I hate Holtz, but I feel bad it had to end that way. Also, the punishments were just handed out and neither team can play in a bowl game this year...which ENDS Holtz's career...and our one objective this year was to get to a bowl game. I give athletes TWO THUMBS DOWN for being idiots in not being able to control themselves playing sports which they love and are fun...ruining the game for the rest of us. I just hope this stuff doesn't continue on much longer.
