pic up-load problem

My pics on photobucket are JPEG files but when I put them on my pc they are now bitmap files and can't download them. Why is this? I have Windows Profesional 2000.

When you go to save your pics to your computer, did you choose to save them in JPEG format? Some browsers give you the option to choose, and sometimes the default saves in .bmp format. This very well may be the problem - try to save one again and when the "SAVE AS" box comes up, look for where it says "Save as type" (if it is there) and choose JPEG.

EDIT: Unless I got totally confused and you mean you can't upload your .bmp files FROM you computer, hehe.

I downloaded a program to change the files, now to learn how to do it. I am not good at this stuff.

I suppose it depends on the program, but I would try opening the picture in the program and then going to "File" and then "Save As..." and then underneath the box where you're supposed to type in what you want to name it, should be another box for format. Clicking on that should bring up a list of file formats to save it as, JPEG being one of them. Then hit Save.

The program I downloaded worked. I posted some pics in my album.
My main prob is Windows Pro, no bells and whistles, just the basics.
It was used and only $60. I'm a cheap ass. HA!
