Defiant
With your head held high
Your over-the-top pride
A book of words
You swear you live by
Knower of truth
Wrapped up in a lie
Fertilize hatred
And hide behind shame
Condemn without reason
Change the rules of the game
Oh your shroud is paper thin
Yet tough as steel
The tears of the innocnet
Leaving no damage
Someday I know
Someday I hope
That as the firey inferno takes you away
You still stand tall
You still stay proud
You still hate
You still criticize
You still live by a law
You still live in the dark
And you burn in the showdown you live for

This is my uberliberal anti-Bush poem that I'm considering using for my college essay. Please tell me what you think and if I should use it!

*A note: 2,652 refers to the number of US troops death in Iraq since the war began. "Over 50,000" referes to how many Iraqi civilians have been killed.

Two Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty-Two
2,652
That’s 2,651 more than you
The souls that you send for your dirty work
Who give their lives while you pray at church
Each day, a suicide bomber
A crying mother
A civilian who had no where to run
A father mourning the loss of his son
Each number, obsolete
Giving in would mean defeat
I’d love to share a word or two
To let you know my point of view
To unmask lies you know aren’t true

Let me start this off by saying
You’re not the only one who’s praying
You stand proud and dignified
While those you send pray for their lives
Safe inside your big white house
Cold and all alone
I’ll put you in a small glass house
And let you throw a stone

Try to fathom, for a while
A stranger sending off your child
A bomb destroying all your land
No running water to wash your hands
I bet you’re always washing your hands

Have you ever thought, for a minute
About the situation you’re controlling
Even though you are not in it?
Try sitting down and counting
To over fifty thousand
And when you’re finally done
You might as well start back at one

Oh, and marriage, how ’bout that?
Why can’t Harry marry Matt?
And yes, the planet’s started heating
But who are you to take the beating?
Of course, you won’t touch a stem cell
Don’t want to be damned to Hell
Suppose disease is just as well

Jack and Jill went up a hill
Jack got lost along the way
Jill was scared to go alone
So she turned around and walked away
Now she doesn’t leave her home
She watches TV and talks on the phone
She knows what the news will say tonight-
“Another shooting ended a fight”
“Another disaster destroyed a city”
What a pity.
“Tom and Katie are to wed”
“Britney finally dumped K-Fed
And dropped her baby on his head”
“Gas prices reached a record high”
“Another plane fell from the sky”

I find it hard to believe
That someday soon we shall find peace
Could you put my mind at ease?
Could you?
