Animal

I tempt the animal asleep and wake her
At my peril.
Desire at will I, not to weep
I swathe the beast to me.
I hold,
But not to cool my quivering skin,
Nor merely to my breast enfold,
Or sleep.
My visceral needs arouse to take her
Will she relent.
Embrace this lustful, dizzying scent?
Tearfully she turns,
I tense!
But not to fear do I arouse
I yield to carnal prurience,
To pine,
To enter in,a gentle bond.
Revel in the solace of the flesh
To another world beyond
To rise!
Rapturous tempest take us!
Hold on,hold on!
Ride the undulating sea
Cleave to me!
Cleave to me!
Want a smoke?

What Night?

What night?
Velvet black and jewels of white!
Softening our Mother for the morning light.
Rest you now, shadowed orb
And dwell, lovingly, in this nocturnal rite.

Come and play, dark demons
Who crawl and fly and take what's yours.
To you there are no closed doors.
Seek you the nourishment of the dark.
Until dawn, again, will steal your sight.

Sentients, in the forests dwell
And prey upon the innocent souls
That cast shadows in the lunar light
And scatter death upon the shoals
To seal, with blood, a silent spell.

I sit and watch by fire's glow
The dancing rhythms on the trees
Lamenting strains that I should know
Failing in the boreal breeze
Halcyon tidings begin to flow
To entertain the shrouded sylph
Retreats and utters soft refrain...What night?

Usually I write when a particular image gets stuck in my head that I have experienced: First Love, Flight of an Eagle, Being Afraid at night in the woods...things that have left their psychological mark on me and I try to put them into a "mythological" or "romantic" context using offbeat vocabulary to create an image and poetic flow to my poems.
