I can't believe he's gone...

I may be sad to be 18 and love Countdown, but I freely admit it and don't give a damn what anyone says. It is a great show with the best presenter duo of all time, and now that Richard's dead, it feels like there's a hole in my life...

my parents watch it as well. it was a shock for me that he died and so suddenly as well. its sucks alot.

This news saddened me he had become a face you expected to see on channel 4 and just by looking at him i think most people knew who he was. Its sad news and will be strange not having him on our screens.

It's such a shame that he died so young. Only 61. As far back as I can remember my grandad used to put on coutdown everyday and we'd sit there and try and participate...mostly with me shouting out completely unimportant words.

i heard about this last night, i never knew anything about his situation so it was a complete shock.

apparently ester ranson was lined up to do the shows when he was in hospital, so i'd expect her to present countdown should it continue, although there's still about five shows with richard yet to be aired.

he presented it for 23 years since he was 38 by my math, as he was 61 when he died. not too old then really compared to some people.

i hope his friends and family are coping well, r.i.p. man.

ps: isn't the news thread still around? maybe this could've gone in there.

I saw Carol all teary eyed and she was talking about Richard in a past ense and thought "WTF??? He died?!?!".

It's weird.

I heard about what happened this morning. It's so awful, especially as I saw his wife on tv just the other day, talking about him. I think she mentioned how happy they were together too. It's such a shame, these sort of things seem to happen a lot these days.

awwww I saw this on the news this morning and I nearly cried, just for the simple reason he was a very liked person and it was always nice to turn on Countdown and see his groovy ties.

Didn't he have heart surgery on Saturday and then everyone thought he was going to be okay, and then he had a relapse last night or something?

awww may he RIP.
