Ok, as a solo instrument, acoustic guitars completely own distorted electrics. This is because distortion makes the sound completely one volume. It is the raising of the signal level to overdrive the amp's tubes and cause the signal to be clipped, resulting in a full and sustained, but level tone. This sound can mix well with a bass guitar and drumset, but sounds poor by itself. However, an acoustic is completely natural and dynamic. You pick softly, the sound is mellower and quieter; you bang on it, and it responds accordingly. It's a richer and more harmonically complex sound that sounds just fine without a band for it to blend with. However, nothing can compare to the adreline rush caused by taking screaming, overdriven solo with a pounding rhythm section behind you.

I prefer the rock version, but I also really like acoustic versions. It really depends on the song/band. The exception of course is Ev; they can do no wrong no matter what version they do.

Electric solos can be beautiful on their own - listen to any blues musician. Very dynamic - definitely not one volume. But yes, generally speaking, acoustics sounds more "natural" and are more dynamic.

I really love a backing acoustic track blended in with distorted guitar. Good stuff

in my personal opinion Acoustics are 98% of the time better than the original, it seems to give the song more emotion. Ive got to agree that The Reason by Hoobastank sucks acousticly.(weird cause I thought it would be a good song when sung acoustically) My current favourites (in no given order) are:
Oasis - Stand by Me
anything by Ev
Ash - Starcrossed (god I wish I could find that acoustic again. it pwned)
Cold - End of the World
Muse - Sing For Absolution
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World

i love acoustic songs, i think its a good way to see if the artist is good or not. on an electric guitar you cant really mess up a song but with an acoustic if you play wrong you hear it quite easily....
i started to be interested in acoustic songs thanks to evanescence a&nd their performance of going under on the tv show Viva, OMG this one is so beautiful.... now i have plenty of acoustic songs from different artists like : seether, hoobastank, lacuna coil, hanson, avril lavigne.... also im trying to play the guitar so it helps a lot to see videos where they are performing acousticly, so i can try to play the songs too...

I absolutely LOVE rock music. I love the heaviness about it. I love the meaningful lyrics (in most cases). I love the loud voices. I love blasting it really loud. Rock music is the one thing that I can't live without.

I love acoustics as well. It's more toned down than rock music but it still has that "umph" to it that makes you want to blast it really loud and sing a long.

My favorite acoustic song (currently) is Take Me Away by Seether.
