OMG....

I could never figuar that out, the amount of frustration it
would bring on, I would never get through it.
I would probably, want to destroy it by the time I'm done.

Good, I'm glad. It's nearly impossible to figure out without visuals, lol.

And to help clear it up too, this is what I meant when I said I like to scramble the cube up in ways that look kind of cool:

And the neatest thing about all of those is that they're SUPER easy to do if you have a solved Rubik's Cube. Each of them only takes a few steps. (The second one only takes three moves.)

Yeah, I noticed that they took it down. I've been trying to find another one the past few days, but all of the other online cubes I've found are insanely difficult to operate (asking you to use certain keys on the keyboard in junction with the mouse - it's a big mess). As soon as I find a new one, I'll edit the link though.

And really, once you know how to solve it, it doesn't take very long. Actually, the method I use is one of the longer methods and isn't used by speed cubers at all. However, I like it a lot better because it really teaches you how to move things around and you don't have to learn an obsessive amount of moves for all the different possibilities... it's easier to know what to do in a situation. Other methods, like the layer by layer method, I find more difficult, because in order to use it you have to memorize a ridiculous amount of moves: To get one thing accomplished you may need to learn several moves in order to compensate for all the different outcomes you're presented with.

But yeah, I'll keep working on finding a new link.

My brother recently is obsessed with them. He can solve them in like 5 minutes or something, it's driving my sister crazy because he's been solving the cube for days now.

Well, when you learn, you're going to want to solve it lots too, lol.

I would like to get a 4x4 and a 5x5 and learn to solve those.

EDIT: Hey guys... I found a new link. This cube is just as nice as the old one, and it's bigger! It's very easy to maneuver, you just need to use the mouse... it's simple. I'll edit the first post with the link too. And if you guys want me to help you learn to solve it, just ask!

EDIT2: Wow, this one is neat. It lets you change the view of the cube, it'll give you the notation to solve any mix-up of the cube (but that only helps I guess if you can read notation... and it doesn't help you LEARN to solve it)... but either way I like this one lots!!

To solve mine, I usually figured outr a way to literally take the cubes out of it, then press fit them back together in the proper sequence.

Yes, I was a VERY frustrated child... I haven't played with one in over 20 years. Might try to get the original for my daughter, just to see if I can get the same level of anxiety out of her. (Aren't I just a swell dad, eh?!)

Kudos to you Jane.

I still can't do it but that's partly because I just don't have the time. Especially not now, because I've got 2 German exams tomorrow and I have loads of stuff to learn.

If anyone is interested, that's actually a common way to "cheat" your way to the solution. All you need to do is take a Rubik's cube and rotate the top layer so that it's at a 45 degree angle in conjuction with the rest of the cube (i.e. you're doing half of one 90 degree rotation). Then you need to find a flathead screw driver or something and stick it under the middle cube of that twisted top layer. Pop off the middle cube... after you do that, you can disassemble the rest of the cube pretty simply by just pulling them out individually.

This DOES NOT break the cube! Once you have all the little cubes disassembled, go to work sticking them back into place on the frame. Once you take apart a Rubik's cube, all you're left with is a little black frame (that forms the center of the cube) with little arms that connect to all the center squares (the centers can't be disassembled). Just by looking at the cubes, you'll be able to see how they fit back into place.

However, the only downside to this is that it takes much longer than actually just learning to solve the cube, lol. Plus, it's a lot more work, and it's less impressive if you're doing it in front of a group of people. But to each his own.

Well Jane...I never was one for figuring the easiest way to cheat at something...just anything different from the rules, as in my feeble little mind, I felt like I was accomplishing something that NO ONE ELSE had tried or done before.

Yeah, I know, wasted youth...
