Scott Speed, The Next American f1 driver
Hi I thought I would make a thread about Scott Speed, because there hasn’t been a American in F1 since Michael Andretti little over 10 years ago, and hasn’t been a American champion in over 20 years Mario Andretti being the last American Champion. Another fact is most people don’t know who he is and since they are covering the races I thought I would update and let everybody know when he’s on TV and how he did.
BIO: Scott Speed was discovered by Red Bull, in the “Red Bull Driver Search” which is a program to help young American Road Racers be successful and move up the ladder system. Scott Speed has a colorful racing career Racing History 1993 – First karting race 1995 – First karting national title 1996 - 2001 – Multiple karting national titles and championships 2001 – Russell Racing Champion, Sonoma Ca. (first car racing championship) 2002 – Barber Dodge National Championship 2002 – Formula Mazda Championship 2002 – Selected, and won, Red Bull American Driver Search 2003 – British F3 (partial season due to illness) 2004 – Formula Renault German and Eurocup Champion 2004 – Testing with Red Bull Cheever Racing IRL team 2005 – GP2 He is currently in a comfortable spot of 3rd in the championship and has battled some big names like Piquet, Lauda and Rosberg, whose fathers are former F1 champs and legends. 7/24/05 Germany Grand Prix GP2 has two races one on Saturday and on Sunday. The Saturday race is of composed of a mandatory pit stop that includes fresh tires and fuel. Sunday race is a pure sprint race with no pit stops, just racing. In Gp2 racing there is a standing start meaning that everybody lines up on the grid and when the lights go out they drop the clutch and accelerate. It makes it very exciting because of the tire smoke and all the evasive moves that take place. The Gp2 Kaas are very powerful have 600 BHP, Carbon fiber body and braking system, with paddle shift gear selection like F1. These Kaas are extremely fast, reaching 320 kp in 6.7 seconds. This weekend’s race was full of action. In practice Speed was looking very promising, posting the fastest time of the day in practice. In qualifying he posts the second fastest, giving him a spot on row 1. The Race on Saturday was a hard fought battle, the mandatory pit stop hurt speed’s chances with a screw up by one of the pit crew pumping him down to 3rd place. Later on the race he put a wheel off the road, nearly lost control but saved the car but unfortunately lost a position. He came back in the final laps but was unable to pass Piquet. Sunday race he started 4th the position he finished on Saturday. He had a great start, and moved into the 3rd position. He caught up to the second place car but was blocked by Pantano, not to mention pressure from the 4th place car Nico Rosberg. He finished a strong 3rd and gained some ground finishing better then the point’s leaders in the championship run. Championship looks like this as of today Kovlainian 69 Rosberg 63 Speed 50 The next race is in Hungry July 29-31 Coverage beings at 6:30 AM Eastern on Speed TV I will update this thread with what happened |

I haven't seen too much of the lower formula one series. i saw a very small highlight the other night. it will be very interesting to see how he does. even if he doesn't do that great, it will be big.
his name is a little ironic. when i first heard about him, i thought he was related to Lake Speed (any Nascar fans remember?)Last edited by technologysux : 07-25-2005 at 12:47 PM. |

Hungarain Grand Prix 7/29-7/31
Scott Speeds, weekend started really slow at Hungry. He was struggling with the setup on his car and at the same time was coming to a track that is unfamiliar to him. In the free practice he placed 11th overall, but found some great speed in the first sector. His Qualifying improved his position into the 4th spot which is a strong start for the young American. Could this be the weekend for the big first win and too hear the American anthem? Tune in tomorrow morning 6:30 AM Eastern Standard on SpeedTV for the conclusion. Following the end of the GP2 race is the F1 race at 7:30am E. |

Hi according to his sight and many interviews its his real name
Hungary race Race 1: Had a great start moved to 3rd place. During his mandatory pit stop he rolled into the wrong pits, and fell back to 8th. He contiunied to struggle with gear box problems through out the race and had a DNF Race 2:Sundays race did not turn out any better for the American. He struggled with gearbox problems the entire race, he couldn't even start the race he had to be push started. The entire race he was struggling with the gearboxes and used this race as a test session studying the data and going in out of the pits to try different setupd. He end up finishing 19th. Still retains his 3rd position the championship. Next race is August 19-21 in Turkey Last edited by trigun7469 : 07-31-2005 at 09:22 PM. |
