I agree, there needs to be a distinction made between an 18 year old who has sex with his/her almost legal boyfriend/girlfriend and the pigs who prey on little kids...at that age, while you're not completely grown and mature yet, you are able to make your own decisions. If the 18 year old were 17, then it wouldn't be illegal...who got to decide that one year makes all the difference and makes you a criminal?

As for pedophiles finding little kids attractive...I don't know if it's so much that, or, as is the case with most rapists, the fact that it makes them feel powerful to be able to control someone.

Basically, it's just a sick, sick world we live in.

Not to mention the fact that it's not exactly uncommon for an 18-21ish year old kid to be prosecuted for rape/sexual assualt just because their girlfriends wanted to spite them. I can't even say how many stories I've heard where a young girl is dating a guy that's 18 or older, and consents to sexual acts, and then when they break up a few months later... all of the sudden he raped her and did all these vile things to her. Guys really get the short end of the stick when it comes to these laws, and it's not right.

I think it is the most disgusting thing, to take the innocents away from

Who in the fucking right mind, would ever want to hurt a child in that
way, and the ost of the time, these kids are emotionally scared for like,
just as anyone else would be as well.

make damn sure they would never find the other half.
And with the justice system the way it is, these people are serving less
time behind bars then it definitely should be.
I mean they can be senteced to 10 years, and be out in maybe 4-5 the most.

Okay, wow. Unlike a lot of people here I actually have a lot of experience dealing with incarcerated pedophiles. They are creepy and fucking disgusting. I can honestly say that there is no such thing as a reformed pedophile. The programs simply do not work. There is something seriously off in these people and impulse control is almost nonexsistent. In my honest opinion I do not believe they should be afforded the option of secrecy as far as their crimes. I think it should be public knowledge. I really wish there was a way to keep track of them better once they are released. Every single sex offender that was ever released from the facility I spent 3 and a half years in. Returned within months. Think about that. Some poor child was victimized even though we already knew what kind of person this was. Personally I am with metalman. Take them out and shoot em. It's the only way to correct their behavior.

In my opinion they lost their rights when they decided to violate a child.

but yeah alot of people said about things like, an 18 year old gets arrested for rape on a technicality because his girlfriend was 16, there are exceptions, but i think this is covered in my case about wrongly convicted pedophiles, it should be at least

You all make some excellent points. I would like to add there is also a problem with sex offenders that most people don't think about. Those that are past their statute of limitation on the crime do not have to be registered sex offenders because they were never charged with anything.

This really leaves a gap in the system, imho. One such situation I can think of is that of the Catholic Church. The majority of those offenders will never see any type of criminal punishment. Some of these crimes are 30+ years old. Does this mean the actions have stopped? I highly doubt it. In the case of a pedophile especially.

Many of the lawsuits that have been filed in these instances have included clauses that ensure these priests are removed from the their parish, that they not be allowed near schools or children. It remains to be seen if these clauses are actually followed because nothing punishment related is present to make sure they do.

I HATE the statute of limitations on these cases. A crime is a crime. I do not care when it happened. It did. It is a complete slap in the face to find out the person that violated you in everyway possible will never see the inside of a prison because some law says time has run out for him or her to be in trouble for it.

Bottom line, they should still be registered even if they never technically served time for what they've done. A civil judgement, or settling out of court with sufficient evidence should be enough to put them on the list.

Pedophiles are not able to be rehabiliated, nor are rapists. They are a threat and should be treated as such.
