Silent Hill

Has anyone played this game? It was released on Playstation quite a few years ago. I played it when I was about 14 and it scared me senseless! Games like Resident Evil rely on cheap shocks to scare you, but Silent Hill is more sophisticated. It uses graphics and, more importantly, sound to gradually increase the suspense and the end result is you being terrified.

I've never been so terrified while playing a game, ever. Even during the daytime it's damn scary, but play it during the night and you'll be scarred for life lol

PS I did a search for this topic but I couldn't find a dedicated Silent Hill topic, so meh...

I totally agree with you. That game really scares the hell outta me! I really can't play it by myself, when I first bought Silent Hill 1 I thought it looked like Resident Evil and the other stuff..but I was TOTALLY wrong. T_T

Yeah, I bet a lot of people thought it was a Resident Evil clone.

Some people need to realise that Resident Evil is not scary. Silent Hill is.

I find that Silent Hill has this far more disturbing fear rather than the 'things-jumping-out-and-scaring-the-crap-out-of-you' fear

The Silent Hill series is amazing...

I love mystery games that make ya think.

Yes, the first one is scary...but I thought that Silent Hill 2 and 3 are even scarier. I really hate when the world turns dark and you can only see a few feet in front of you with a flashlight...very nerve-racking.

Yeah, those bits are truly terrifying. The parts where it goes dark in the hospital and the school gave me nightmares.

I have all Silent Hills, and 4 comes out soon. It is so disturbing- its not a shock scare, either. Its your mind. Hardly anything just jumps out to shock you- its always suspense- like you are WAITING for that shock scare... but it never comes. Thats what keeps me in suspense and stuff. I watched gameplay and trailers of Silent Hill 4 last NIGHT, and it was scary.

Yeah, Im a big fan of Silent Hill. I have the SH1 soundtrack, all the games, a big SH3 poster of Heather.

Lately, there's been a disturbing reoccurance of a pink bunny doll with blood around its mouth.

Like uh, in SH4, you can peer in your neighbor's bedroom (girl's name is Cynthia) and you see a bunny doll on her bed. You check again later, and the bunny has a bloody mouth and is looking at you, thru the hole, smiling.

SO scary.

The stories are good, too. Like SH1 and 3, really in depth and sorta odd stories.

Silent Hill 4: The Room

Scariest moment in silent hill for me:
In SH3, you are in a storeroom full of store mannequins, you collect a key on the other side, hear a woman scream, go back, and see that a mannequin's head has fallen off, with blood on the ground.

Most disturbing monster:
A monster that walks on its hands, 2 baby heads fused on an adult body, no legs. It screams and screeches at you while dashing at you with its deformed, long arms and slender fingers....GAH!

Silent Hill is AWESOME.

The best way to play it, though...

Radio off (so there'll be no stupid static when monsters show up), the sound way up, Bass and Treble at full.

And play at MIDNIGHT with no lights on.

Oh yessssss.

I really wanna play Silent Hill! A couple other great survival horrors are Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame 2.

I am completely obsessed with Silent Hill. The first game freaked me out enough that now my skin is so thick that pretty much nothing freaks me out any more. Unless it, coincidentally, has to do with radio static, extreme dark, fog, or hospitals.

I just love that they have such deep, intricate plots - but unlike most stories you run across, the game leaves it completely up to you to figure out what happened. <3 I can't wait for the fourth.
