Oh boy, n00bage. I hate being a n00b. But it's a fact of the forum life-cycle.

So, in other words...keep at it.
You guys are right, but u also need to give more space to n00bs to let them prove that they deserve respect, being a n00b doesn't mean that we have to be ignored or smth like that. I understand that respect comes with time but sometimes you should be more open with n00bs to let them show u if they deserve respect or not, u dont need to make it more difficult that it is. I'm not saying that u both do it, but some ppl do.

My first pointer to you:
  • Stop substituting 'you' with 'u'.
  • Stop substituting ANY word with a shorter form.

Yeah, seriously. Dhamma already gave you a link to the FAQ, where it states posting in AIM speak or anything like it isn't allowed.

Woah, calm down, her post was perfectly legible. Is the use of 'u', 'ppl', etc forbidden here?
It seems like it is just a suggestion so that posts don't become too hard to decipher. Her post was certainly fine, compared to most posts I read.
There is a difference between leet speak and shortening a few words...

Also, some people get quite offended when they are corrected on a thread, especially some dyslexic people. I would PM somebody, to tell them of the rule, and keep on topic in the thread; that's just my opinion.

Being a n00b sucks. It's like being a freshman in high school. Nobody listens to you, even if you might have something worthwhile to say. But this is the first forum I've been part of that puts so much emphasis on grammar...no l337 5p34k.

I remember my first week was a little tough, because after reading the FAQs and a few n00b-bashing posts, I wasn't sure if I was welcome. I was flustered that I got a neg rep because I said that somebody had proven themselves worth listening to, but since someone else disagreed with me, they said I didn't know what I was talking about for being a n00b. So I think stuff like that, along with that some people don't understand why we demand proper grammar, gives a bad vibe.

Other than that, though, as long as you follow the rules and try to understand the people and structure here, you're set. I was shy to begin with, but I started coming out of my shell after just a few days, mostly because the mods and older members I talked to were very friendly and understanding. I think the Introduce Yourself forum is a really good idea, because once you post there and people reply to you, you feel more comfortable and learn more about the site and people here at the same time.

I've only been around for a few months, so technically I might still be a n00b, but I feel really comfortable here. It's not always happiness and smiles, but even the bad things you run into can help. I was kind of over-sensitive and sheltered, but I wisened up quick after coming here. I still have a way to go and a lot to learn, but Evboard's not anywhere near as intimidating anymore.

So being a n00b is tough at first, but if you know how to adapt, Evboard's a great place to be. You just have to get used to it, then you're free to be yourself. In my experience, being a n00b doesn't mean much if you can get over your insecurity and make good posts. And making good posts is how you gain respect.

When you think about it, EvBoard is just a microcosm. In the real world you will not ultimately be given respect without earning it. Furthermore, people aren't always nice and not everyone will agree with you all the time. You have to put yourself out there and be somewhat vaunerable. Just because your mom thinks your the best, brightest, wittiest, and most interesting person on the planet doesn't mean that everyone else will feel that way. Stop whining in here about how being a n00b sucks and go out a write impressive posts and prove yourself. Honestly, as cliche as it sounds, you make your own destiny around here.
Take your licks at EvBoard, you have the security of the computer screen and if you don't like it you can always go somewhere else. You don't get that option in the big bad world.
So go...now... and write something inspiring.

Being a n00b is not that bad, no. Never or last you ARE an evboard member, and that's what it counts. And this stage passes really fast if you think about it. And for that, you have to earn people's trust, untill they are sure you can be someone huge (who knows?) here on the board. Everyone got their chances to prove that you can post without moderating. But if you accept this stage, the other ones will come as fast as your n00b's stage leaves. It's not hard being a n00b, it's just a recognizemental (?) time.
Good luck guys, and don't give up.
