I am dragging this thread back out because I am curious of the answer. If you are relatively new to the boards, just a lurker, or an old-timer that remembers their n00bish ways, I would love to know your thoughts. The more insight we have the more improvements we can make. So please, share your story and your experience. We are happy to have you here.

To be honest, I never actually felt like a n00b. I joined EvThreads in January this year, and before that, I seriously had absolutely no idea what the heck was a forum or message board. It was the first board that I actually joined (I believe I was redirected to it while looking through the Evanescence Reference), but I kinda ignored it for a few days. Then, the next time I logged in, I started posting right away, and right away I got the hang of it. The only real n00bish thing I did was that I started a thread that I guess was inappropriate, and it got deleted, so I seriously started a new thread asking why that thread had been deleted and demanding an explanation. Not only was there already a thread called "what happened to my thread" where I could've asked, but I started this "I want an explanation!" thread on the Evanescence Exchange forum, rather than the Help forum. I almost got in trouble, and LuckyStar (mod on EvThreads) got mad at me, but right away I apologized and everything was okay. I learned from this that it's easier to just PM a mod if I ever have questions. But besides that, I never actually felt like a n00b where I really had no idea what to do and felt alone. People are usually really nice, and as long as you're nice, too, you'll probably be liked right away and make friends. And I've never actually started a repeated thread. I don't start threads very often, but I know that I'm supposed to use the search button.
Here on EvBoard, I pretty much already knew how things worked when I joined (a few weeks ago). The only thing I'm still not too sure of is the plaza, but that's because I haven't actually tried to buy anything. I'm sure it'll be clear and simple once I actually try to use it, though. There's a lot more forums and subforums than on EvThreads, but I haven't seen anything confusing about it. It's still just threads where you go and post. So that's my n00b speech, I'm done now. Bye. ![]() By the way, that post that's a few posts away from this one, which has Noob Saibot in it is AWESOME!!!! A little something about Noob Saibot: Noob spells Boon when reversed, and Saibot spells Tobias. Both are last names of two different people that worked on creating the Mortal Kombat games (Noob Saibot is a Mortal Kombat character).

I still feel like a n00b here, because I am.
I never really felt like one on Evthreads, though, because I lurked there long enough before I joined so I knew what most of the members were like, and I saw enough noobies getting attacked for making mistakes that I knew what not to do. I was a smart n00b, too, and PMed Tracie [y'all know who that is] a couple days after I joined about whether or not I should post something that I thought might cause unnecessary drama instead of just posting it and letting them clean up the mess later. ![]() But on EvBoard, it's a lot different because there's not a lot of activity here, which lessens my chance of being a postwhore and/or saying something stupid.

Hi!
I'm Sara. I just recently joined, so my newbie experience is still VERY fresh in my mind. I still feel like a newbie in the way that I haven't even been here a month, but I feel at home here now. ![]() When I first joined, I was a little intimidated by the mods. They seemed pretty tough, but now I know they're actually really laid back and only get tough when they have to. Also, seeing threads closed left and right was part of that intimidation, but now I see that their bark is worse than their bite. :-p After I registered and all, I spent a little while just looking around the boards, trying to get a feel for it, before I started posting on a regular basis. I felt like an outsider at first, but now I've come to feel pretty accepted. Everyone's done a good job at making me feel all loved here. *Gets all warm and fuzzy inside*Here are a few things that I made sure I did when I was extremely new here, say, the first few days (and I still follow): 1) Type correctly. I've always done this, though, no matter where I'm at. No one's saying you've gotta be perfect, but it's nice to be able to read a post without having to decipher "text speak" or "net speak" every other word. 2) Don't be mean. Just because someone may disagree with you doesn't mean you have to jump down their throat. 3) Make yourself seem presentable and approachable. I always try to sound upbeat in my posts so everyone knows that I'm friendly and generally easy to get along with. ![]() 4) Also, in keeping with being friendly, when you see a post you like or agree with, give them reputation for it. Now I'm not saying you should go around brown-nosing people, but give credit where credit is due. ![]()
