This is just a little thing for you n00bs...

Cfw made an EXCELLENT thread in the Ev Chat forum. It is your very own Evanescence Encyclopedia. In it is everything you need to know to get you started

I won't link...let this be you n00bs' first search

Believe me, I wish I'd had this thread when I started out.

And yes, it kinda sucks being a n00b and feeling lost...but it's like being a freshman in high school/college. You adjust and make friends and come out of your shell a bit, and soon all is good lol usually. Good luck!

A... to be a nOOb again. You know, sometimes I still feel like a nOOb. I got a pretty high rep, but my posts are still under a 1000 and i dont know how to do everything on the board.

Like, only recently did i figure out how to rep people and only recently did i figure out how to make hyperlinks! ...i know, tis sad

But i think a general tip for nOObs would be not to assume, cause that makes an ass out of you... and like, i cant remember, but you and somebody else probably.

So before asking questions or opening up a thread to ask a question, pm a member or mod to ask them or just do a search. Also, don't try anything racy or try to get in on inside jokes for a little while cause that can take some time. Frankly, im still not sure completely sure why they spell it nOOB the way they do, or why they call her teh ames

So don't assume stuff, dont question the mods, dont bother trying to understand inside jokes, and dont make new threads over some trivial thingy. It took me quite sometime to get at all used to the board, but ultimately, it is a really well designed board and all the little buttons all over the place are there for a reason. *sigh* well, most of them i think, im still workin on that

Well, I can tell you from experience.... being a n00b sucks. When I first came here I was nervous, b/c everytime I posted something people would be like wtf? are you an idiot? and I was liek umm , no? But yeah being a n00b sucks... but after awhile you begin to loosen up and make friends, and start to enjoy this place more and more, and then it becomes addictive, and then you spend every waking moment you have to spare on this board, then you start getting your family members to resent you for not being there for them and spending all your time on this board, just waiting for a band member to log on and .... oh yeah well you get the idea.

I first start lurking around EvBoard in May of last year. My roommate was a member, so I used her name just to look around and check things out. At first, I was overwhelmed by all the rules and by how the mods seemed "so mean" since they were closing peoples threads left and right. The message board that I had posted on before seemed so much more laid back then EvBoard, so I wasn't use to it at all but everyone seemed so close and the people that weren't having their threads locked seemed to really enjoy being here, so I had to figure out a way to slowly ease myself in. I felt that EvBoard was more like a family. I knew that being the "n00b" I wouldn't be accepted right away, but that I would have to work into being "trusted"

In July 2003, I finally got the courage to join under my own name. For about a month, I continued to lurk and tried to figure out what made mods close people's threads and what didn't. I started to use the search function and read up on older threads. After a while, and a better understanding of how things worked around here, I started replying to other people's threads and within a few months, I had even started a thread or two of my own.

Things aren't really as evil here as they may seem sometimes. The mods have a tough jobs. There are only about 10 of them and 12,000 of us. That's almost 1200 people per mod (that is if all of those 12,000 actually posted). I would have to say that leadership-wise, this is one of the best board I have seen. Yeah, the mods may get snarky at times, but it's all in good fun. As you'll soon learn, we're a sarcastic bunch, but we really do love each other.

Just take your time, and get your feet wet a bit before you jump in to pool head first.

If you have any questions, about how the way things work around here, or if anything else pops up in your mind, feel free to PM one of the members of the Welcoming Committee and we'll try our best to help you out! Just click on the names below to PM

~Tracie

LittleFairydotORG also put together an excellent tutorial that will tell you everything you need to know about where to look, who to contact and lots of other EvBoard info. Check it out below

Well it kinda sucks being a newbie right now 'cause i'm not used to this method of moderating and b/c the mods seem kinda... 'ahem'...crazy, but i guess it'll pass

Being a noob sucks, because the only thing you'll ever concern about is fitting into the society. And everyones afraid of being rejected.

Except those bitter cynical and sarcastic people who have already been rejected and now laugh at others for trying of course.
